DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, here I am on top of the heap again. The major slam! A guy could get used
to this, I guess. I wish I thought I ought to get used to it, but I suspect that
sometime, probably soon, my luck streak will go south and I will be clubbed and my
heart broken in spades.
I went right at Melanie Obern, taking my tricks right off the top for game. I
didn't need to finess, thank the gods! She's a diamond, but when we play in no
trump, I am at my best.
Perhaps I can take this column to introduce my newest teammate? Welcome Altar
Boy. He may not have the greatest makeup, but he does seem to have some kind of
heavenly luck factor on his side. May the knack be with him.
Will it be Roid or Sam? Who will challenge? With whom will I match? Will I
challenge? Will the next Duelmaster be a diamond? To be continued... (hopefully).
Contract Bridge, DMII
SPY REPORT
Hail TELORINTHE! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for
your deeds. And let's see, WHITEY D'EAGLE fought CONVICTED ASSASSIN and gained 12
points and contributed to NONSUCH HOUSE's 2-3-0. POSTAL TURNCOAT has lost to SPORT,
falling 5 points, while helping make PUNY ORC PELOTON a 2-3-0 turn. And not without
some honor, BAD BAD BASSO now claims the title and throne of Duelmaster of
TELORINTHE. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under
the table at The Swinging Aardvark?
The crowd's roar, the smell of iron and leather, mixed with sweat, what more
could a warrior ask of life? Well, besides that. I also notice that the NONSUCH
HOUSE stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on TELORINTHE, what are you
afraid of? And guess who avoided NONSUCH HOUSE stable the most? Believe it or not,
it was OLDIES. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that WHITEY D'EAGLE
from NONSUCH HOUSE was TELORINTHE's most challenged warrior this turn. ROID FLOYD of
PUNY ORC PELOTON had better have a good reason for challenging down 9 points in a
challenge which he won. I thought ROID FLOYD showed great skill and promise when he
defeated SAM TALL. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or
hide when the fight is over. Consider well.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Always good to rest in TELORINTHE, but never good to wear out my
welcome. Look for me in future turns. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to
paper-- Alarond the Scribe

Orcs on top with 37 big points? Orcs 1 -- Oldies 0? What is this world coming to?
-- Coach (Now worried about contract renewal.)
And they're PUNY orcs, too!
9-4? Well, that SHOULD be enough for a contract extension with a little raise. --
Coach
Big Bad Basso -- You would beat up on poor overworked Custodian? Shame! And
Slugbait used to be such a nice guy. (wink) -- Coach
Khalhums Dwarf -- That's not right! I had you! I did. Then, you got me, you
meanie. -- Circle K
If you can't keep your grip, is that MY fault? -- Kaor Steelbone, Not From
Khalhums
Steel Muse -- Thanks for being my last win. I thought it was rather aMUSEing. --
Life Scout, retired
Melanie Obern -- I will take that hard fought squeaker. I'm glad I still get to
write a DM Column, but wish I didn't have to write it. You know? -- Contract Bridge
(marking down the score for a small slam)
Whitey D'Eagle -- I am impressed and hurt. Kudos, I guess. I have to get going
because I have a LOT of working out to do after that embarrassment. -- Sport
Health. Humility. Honor. -- Coach
Sam Tall -- Kind of an unfair challenge which tells you how much I don't want to face
the Coach's warriors. -- Roid
Olovor -- Really much closer then I wanted. I was hoping to nip our fight in back
with a quick dagger to the back. -- Turncoat
Sliverback -- You hit like a gorilla and you look like one too? -- Beef (with you)
Coach -- Did I just got 1-0 against you?! I'm quitting this game right how. It will
never happen again. 9-4. -- slugbait
Custodian -- Thank you for teaching me an attack skill. I aim to never use it. --
Bad Bad
Tamarind -- A true battle of the sucky. The fact that I won is not related to the
fact that I don't suck but rather to my luck. -- Sky High
Coach -- I aim to perfect the art of sandbagging by letting you win the title. --
Your pal sluggy
Congrats Life Scout. -- slugbait
Roid Floyd -- And why aren't YOU graduating? I thought that was my role here, boost
people to graduation while hanging around for years myself. -- Sam Tall
Cornelius -- Luck, nothing but luck... since I can't blame your win on hidden tourney
fights. -- Petro Salm
Postal Turncoat -- Be sure to shake the snow off before you put it back on. The way
it's coming down now... whew! Could be a serious mess. -- Olovor Paris
Contract Bridge -- Huh, just you WAIT. I'm thinking maybe I'll bring tarot cards to
our next match. Tricky things, tarot cards. I played poker with 'em last week, got
a full house, and four people at the table *died*. Powerful magic. -- Melanie Obern
Sky High Omerta -- And that totally wraps up an oh-fer turn for us. Darn. I wanted
to pull off the only win. For the distinction, you know. -- Tamarind Ulrik
