DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Telorinthe!
I have graduated! Immortality!
I always believed it could happen to me, but until it does, you still doubt.
Sure Dimetreas, our resident manager, kept saying "great damage is a big advantage.
And you're a striker, you hit hard and fast. You got skills." But in only 20
fights? I guess it was a good thing that most of the vets cleared out before I got
up here. Timing is everything, I guess. (That is true about ripote skills as well,
by the way.)
I'm trying to convince the boss to let me fight in AD as well. Heck, I can't
get killed anymore, right? But it seems unlikely. Something about "anti-striker
bias" or some such crap. But what is the use of having your own personal muse if you
just lock her in a closet? (Figuratively speaking, of course.) Yah, gotta let me
out if I am going to do anything! How can I inspire if I am not allowed to do what I
do? How can I be a-musing??
But what can you do? I shall take my broadsword to the Isle of the Eye and
continue to cheer on my teammates from afar. Hopefully one of them (Cornelius? Am I
inspiring you?) will take my place on this throne and soon join me in immortality.
Steel Muse,
Lord Protector and Duelmaster of Telorinthe
SPY REPORT
Hail TELORINTHE! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for
your deeds. It seems the training can make the difference, as CHAPEL OF THE GHOULS
is pushed out of top team by OLDIES, who came from 3rd with a 2-3-0 this turn. The
MIDDLE WAY 21 guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future.
You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, OUT FOR A DUCK
fought CORNELIUS and gained 14 points and contributed to BAD SIGNS' 3-2-0.
SILVERBACK has lost to PETRO SALM, falling 14 points, while helping make NONSUCH
HOUSE a 1-4-0 turn. Defending hers title for another turn, STEEL MUSE kept OLDIES'
warrior, CUSTODIAN, from claiming the throne. By the way, was that our Duelmaster
that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Swinging Aardvark?
Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.'
Inscrutable, but true. I also notice that the NONSUCH HOUSE stable was the most
avoided team this turn. Come on TELORINTHE, what are you afraid of? And guess who
avoided NONSUCH HOUSE stable the most? Believe it or not, it was BAD SIGNS. Anyone
surprised? The most challenged warrior this turn was NONSUCH HOUSE's warrior
CORNELIUS. More fighters challenged him than challenged the Duelmaster! Building
dreams on hope, KELLUMBO'S INITS. challenged up 29 points this turn to take on
MELANIE OBERN from MIDDLE WAY 21 stable. Sad to say, KELLUMBO'S INITS. lost to
MELANIE OBERN, and the attempt ended up costing KELLUMBO'S INITS. 2 recognition
points.
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or
hide when the fight is over. Consider well.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Well, I'm burning daylight here in TELORINTHE and I've a long road
ahead of me. Happy Trails. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--

Well, Duelmaster Steel Muse, you sure showed me the difference between a steal weapon

Telorinthe -- I sought to keep my name hidden for a while. It was no great secret,
just a little mystery and a chance for one of my first graduates, Dimetreas, to hone
his managerial skills. But it seems HAL knew who I was. So anyone who reads the
regional news portion of the newsletter will know that I am the manager who has a
Steel Muse. I started the House some time ago and gave it 10 turns--it was possible
because we were the only unchartered team for most of that time and thus guaranteed
at least 2 free fights per turn. When that little gift ran out, the Nonsuch House
was put on hold. Now we are back, and will hopefully be able to be stable members of
the arena. I have always liked the no-tourney format and want to support its
continued success. I shall leave Dimetreas as my local man in charge and simply
remain the behind-the-scenes-boss. -- Nomad
P.S. And if events allow, we will hopefully become far more vocal. Failing to write
columns and ads is not my preferred method of operation.
Sorry to blow your cover. Next time you want to go "managerially incognito,"
tell Sandy, and she'll make sure I know and don't give it away. Shall we list
Dimetreas as the manager here at present?
Actually, I could forego the regional arena news altogether....
Custodian -- What a bummer. Not only do you lose the fight, but then they make you
clean up afterwards. That seems harsh. -- Steel Muse
Petro -- What can I say? You just looked beatable. Some people have that look, you
know? -- Silverback
Kellumbo's Inits -- Yep, a bad sign. Somebody told me "challenge Kellumbo's, you can
take him." Uh, yeah, thanks, Whitey. -- Rook
Lump -- Have you been told before that you have a fitting name? I am glad to leave
the speed bump behind me. -- Cornelius
Out for a Duck -- that has to be the strangest name I have seen here. Perhaps it
distracted me? I gotta stay focused. -- Whitey d'Eagle
Our suspicions about the Altar Boy have been CONFIRMED! He killed a slave. He is a
Bad Altar Boy.
Napless Toddler -- You were GIVEN a bottle. Of course, it had MILK in it, and you
seemed to be expecting vodka, so.... -- Tamarind Urlik
Our congratulations to Steel Muse. -- Jorja and those who walk the Middle Way
Construction Zone -- More like de-construction, if you ask me. And I have had enough
of it. -- Melanie Obern
Silverback -- Looked more like steel, to me. -- Petro Salm
Nocturnal Rites -- Not for me. I need my sleep. -- Tamarind Urlik
Sin Eater -- You give new meaning to the term "bad breath." It's enough to gag a
maggot. -- Olovor Paris
Cannelton -- You're too old for me. -- Terena Verek
