TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Hi everyone. I am the Dragon Master and I wanted to tell you all about my warrior
Nightmare that just got his invite last turn. Nightmare is an ancient black dragon. He
is a Striker. I made his stats like this: 9-9-15-21-9-10-11. He has very little
endurance and does good damage. He has advanced experts in attack, initiative, and
riposte. He has a master in decisiveness. His favorite weapon was the dagger. He got a
mod offensive effort and a mod activity level. I hope my next warrior does as good.
Nightmare is my second warrior to get an invite. -- The Dragon Master

'Tales from Telo 7' by Hammer the WordSmith
"Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?"
-- Macbeth: Act Two Scene One
Hammer had been reluctant to send two of his recent four new recruits to the Dark
Arena, but the idea of having two more Bashers on his roster did not seem to justify
having previously culled two Bashers, only to add two more as replacements.
Thia Salanora was busy orienting the two new recruits to the Aaaarrgh Hammerz
facilities, before meeting Hammer and Obedience Hammer for the Turn 176 Dark Arena
fights, along with the two new recruits Hammer had decided to add to the current
roster.
They were now gathered together, all five of them, in their reserved seat section to
view the torch-light fights.
Hammer had given the replacements names worthy of fighting on his active roster, just
in case they were able to survive the Dark Arena.
Dudly Telo Hammer faced Wurm Kin (a Striker) armed with a Halbard versus the Longsword
brandished by the Dark Arena Monster, but the Halbard proved to be useless for Dudly
Telo Hammer!
Dudly was struck in the belly, then the right hand, sending the Basher into
desperation, followed by a strike to the head and two more blows to the chest, before
Dudly Telo Hammer fell lifeless to the sands!
Hammer was now guaranteed at least one new replacement, before Telo Flirt Hammer made
her way to the Dark Arena Sands, brandishing a Great Axe.
She was facing Arenamaster (a Lunger), brandishing an Epee and a Dagger, but there was
only a slim hope that she would survive the experience!
It merely took one strike to the head to send Telo Flirt Hammer desperate, then a
wound to the left thigh, head, belly and neck resulted in the female Basher falling
lifeless to the sands!
Hammer was a bit disappointed that Telo Flirt Hammer failed to survive, but the look
on his face gave way to one of anticipation, regarding the newest replacements!
As for Obedience Hammer, once again Ten Toes was a no-show for the Blood Feud
Challenge; therefore, Dad's Cooking of Bad Signs was able to issue a challenge to
Obedience Hammer, who somehow managed to defeat his foe in one minute!
You could say that Obedience Hammer 'took a licking, but kept on ticking!'
"May Your Blades Be Sharp and Your Wits Sharper!"

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Hello fellow gladiators!!! It is I, Master Roshi!! I want to thank JJ Watt for rolling
over for me and allowing me to easily capture the DM throne. I didn't expect that
outcome when I saw ol JJ standing across from me. I won't be challenging or avoiding
anyone next turn so the throne is up for grabs for anyone brave enough to try. Good
luck to all next turn.
-- Master Roshi of Kame House
SPY REPORT
It is so GREAT to be back with you in Telorinthe! You know how much I LOVE arena
days! I cannot think of a more exciting time in the city than when everyone gathers
to carouse and watch the fights. I mean, we only get to this here once a month, so
let's make the most of it, shall we? I have lots of exciting news to share with you
this cycle, so I'll jump right into it.
We had a new warrior ascend to the throne the last turn when Master Roshi beat J.J.
Watt. It was a shocker for sure, but this is what makes the arena so exciting! You
never know who is going to win on any given day. Wow, now I sound like one of those
old, grizzled spy reporters giving one of those "For the love the game" type speeches!
Well, I do love this gladiatorial game, so it might not be too far off. Floyd's
warrior held the throne going into the turn, and it looks like Master Roshi has more
than a few challengers for his title. Master Roshi was challenged by Wyan of Sorcerer
Kings. Even FE and same style, so really this match could go either way. It looks
like current arena kill-leader Wyan is our newest Duelmaster. He also gets the honor
of being Telorinthe's newest graduate! Congrats to Wyan, who is managed by Master
Darque.
The most avoided team today is tied between multiple teams. Bad Signs, The Ferocious
Five, and Shadow of Mega all received 5 avoids. It is hard to pinpoint who actually
avoided each of them the most, but . . . this looks also to be a tie between Aaaargh
Hammerz and Empire Strikes Out! There are lots of overlapping stats today! Our most
challenged warrior for turn 177 is our former Duelmaster Master Roshi. We have already
covered that match which resulted in a new Duelmaster!
Okay, let's breakdown the turn and see how it all turned out:
Fights: 39
Dark Arena Fights: 3
Bloodfeuds: 2
Challenges: 14
Down Challenges: 2
Deaths (non-DA): 0
What is it the humans say, "The numbers don't lie!" I'm not exactly sure what they
mean by that phrase, but I hear it shouted often when I'm near the gladiatorial pens
and the bookies and managers are arguing with one another. So, what do the numbers
tell us? We had a good number of fights, first of all. It is nice to have Nomad back
with us! We hope you do stick around for many turns. There were only 3 deaths this
turn and all of them happened in the Dark Arena. The other interesting bit we get
from the data is bloodfeuds were a bust this turn. There were only 2 of them, but no
one avenged their fallen comrade! There were 2 down challenges and both by Ironskull
Orcs. Maybe their boss has been spending too much time with Weirdo, who was absent
this turn. I say that because the Orcs lost both down challenges.
Time for me to go, I think my time is up! Congrats to Sorcerer Kings on their 5-0
turn. I also want to recognize the other teams that had nice 4-1 efforts this cycle.
We had more than a few of those such as Shadow of Mega, The Dragons, and Riff-Raff
Crew! Condolences to Warmage, who started off strong with a 5-0, only to have an 0-5
today. Good luck to everyone next turn! We know that we will have a new Duelmaster as
Wyan goes to Advanced. The question is, who is going to step up and take his place?
Join us next turn and find out!

WINTER BLOODGAMES 2021
Back by popular demand, we will be hosting a new round of Bloodgames beginning at the
Winter Mail-in! For those of you who always wanted the chance to manage the last
warrior standing alive upon the arena sands, your day has come. At the end of the ten
turns, even though several warriors, bruised and scarred, MAY yet live, only one will
be crowned Champion of the Bloodgames. And in this game mere survival counts for
little. A great general once said, "The object of battle is not to die for your
cause, but to make your enemy die for his." This general would have greatly enjoyed
the Duelmasters Bloodgames. We will hold three different arenas:
Mail-in-Style (DM 97): One strategy for all ten rounds, due January 16.
This arena will process along with the winter mail-in.
Regular Speed (DM 96): Strategy changes allowed; bloodfeud challenges only.
Turn 1 is due February 2 and turns process every 14 days.
Slow (DM 95): Strategy changes allowed; bloodfeud challenges only.
Turn 1 is due May 10 and turns process every 28 days.
Gameplay proceeds according to standard DM rules, except for a few notable exceptions:
BLOODGAMES ROLLUP -- Your Bloodgames team is ten warriors, one of each fighting
style, each warrior designed from scratch! (All are 84 points, 3-21, as usual.)
To submit your rollup, just write/type them up and send them in. We'll mail or email
your overviews and you can write up your strategies.
DEATH -- As the name implies, the Bloodgames will leave the arena sands somewhat
darker before they're over. It's a dangerous sport intended only for the tough and
spirited. The Arenamaster will be less likely to intercede on behalf of a dying
warrior. Even at a 1 kill desire, kill attempts will occur.
REPLACEMENTS AND ROLLUPS -- There will be no replacement characters.
CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES -- In the turn-based bloodgames (DM 96 and DM 95), there are
no regular challenges, only bloodfeuds. For the Mail-in style arena (DM 97), each
warrior will have a single strategy for all ten rounds. There will be no DA
challenges in either arena.
TURN PROCESSING AND DUE DATES -- DM 97 is due January 16, DM 96 is due February 2, and
DM 95 is due May 10. DM 97 will process along with the winter mail-in and the other
two are turn-based and will process on a 14- and 28-day schedule respectively.
MISSED TURNS -- All warriors fight each round. Only the dead may rest.
ERRORS -- If we make an input error, that warrior will be awarded a win and kill.
Errors must be reported before the next turn processes.
NEWSLETTER -- Warriors are ranked according to their number of kills. Champions of
Bloodgames may write a column for the newsletter at the end of the games.
FEES -- A Bloodgames rollup costs a $10 set-up fee. Managers may roll up more than
one team but may run only one team in each arena. The fee for all ten rounds is $49.
AWARDS -- The Bloodgames last ten rounds. Only warriors who survive to the end of
Turn 10 will be eligible for an award. However, a consolation award of a Bloodgames
T-shirt will be awarded to the dead warrior with the most kills.
The living warrior with the greatest number of kills will be the Bloodgames Champion.
Bloodgames Victor titles, 2nd and 3rd place, and Bloodgames Runner-up titles, 4th
through 6th place, will be awarded to those living warriors with the greatest number
of kills at the end of Turn 10, with one other important consideration: Each of these
six warriors must be of a different fighting style. Win/loss records and, if
necessary, recognition points will only be used to determine awards if there is a tie.
A Bloodgames T-shirts will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most kills.
The Bloodgames Champion fights for free in Advanced Duelmasters, and all Champions and
Victors earn Tournament Victor status, which allows them to challenge once per turn
with increased priority. These awards last for six months. The manager of the
Bloodgames Champion, Victors, and Runners-up will receive Bloodgames T-shirts.
AFTERMATH -- Warriors from the Bloodgames may not transfer to any other arena. Once
the games are over, the arena and teams will be disbanded. The fighters have won
their freedom and will never more be seen in the gladiatorial games. A special bonus
will, however, be awarded to the 1st through 3rd place warriors. Lady Sheila
Greywand, of the Isle of the Eye, has consented to allow the top three gladiators in
each Bloodgames admission to the Advanced Duelmasters games. Any special training
required to qualify those three warriors for Advanced Duelmasters combat will be
conducted before transfer into ADM. Astute managers will note that this means that
three warriors that are designed from scratch will survive the Bloodgames, win one of
the top three places, and go on to immortal glory! One of those warriors could be
yours!
The challenge is yours to take. The final plans are yours to make.
When the dust settles, remember: To the victor goes the spoils!
