TEAM SPOTLIGHT
"Did you order something to be delivered?"
White Lion dropped the paper low enough that I could see a pair of bright blue
eyes under his careless tangle of blonde curls. All these years, I thought with just
a tinge of jealousy, and not a hint of grey.
"I'm sorry?"
Whoever was at the door rapped again, a little louder, a little longer. I
wondered if this was how Vlad felt during the fated "Police Knock" incident. Of
course not! I thought. I wasn't under indictment for anything. Not in Alastari,
anyway. And there's no way the local Federales could know what I was doing off-world.
"All right! I'm coming!" I yelled as I hauled myself out of my comfortable
Corinthian leather recliner and walked towards the front door. The rapping came
again, and this time the door shook with each knock. Dust drifted down from the
rafters. Whoever was on the other side of that door was determined to deliver
whatever package, or message, or whatever they had brought.I opened the door, and
found myself looking at a well-muscled chest in a dark brown shirt.
It took a moment to realize the delivery driver was far too big for the doorway.
I tried to step outside to get the measure of him, but a finger in my chest nudged me
surprisingly gently back into the guildhouse.
"Mask?" The Shewish Giant inquired politely, gesturing toward the yard of sail
cloth that covered his meaty jowls.
I reflexively pulled a "Duel II" mask out of my pocket and put it uncomfortably
on. Immediately, my glasses fogged up.
"Sign here." The Shewish Giant stabbed a meaty finger at a clipboard and moments
later was careening wildly down our street while I gazed at a sealed envelope with a
dainty yet dangerous-looking wax seal I'd never seen before. It smelled softly of
charred firewood and brimstone; I hoped it wasn't another ex-girlfriend trying to
"send a message."
"What you got there?" asked White Lion as he sloppily devoured a bowl of
Cheerios, spilling milk and cereal as he tried to read the note over my shoulder.
"It's a diplo note," I answered, dodging his spattering breakfast as best I
could. "And a strongly worded one at that."
"Master Darque again?" White Lion snorted. "He threw everything he had at you
already, and he couldn't kill you." White Lion laughed. "What's he got left that might
scare you?"
"It's not Master Darque," I answered absent-mindedly, scanning the flowing
script of the handwritten note. "It's Lady Darque, and.." I stopped as I read the end
of the note, a lump developing in my throat.
"And what?" Wailin' Van Halen asked, stepping out onto the deck, drawn by
something, anything that might break his ever-present boredom.
"And Lady Floyd. And they want to know where their kids are."
I stared up at the two immortal gladiators. "They are coming here to ask me
personally."
White Lion slurped the last of the milk out of his bowl noisily. "Where are those
kids, anyway?"
Looking up and down the street distractedly, I waved the two gladiators inside.
"Start packing."
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Sorry, but my stay here is going to have to be short. The Commission is telling me
that my time in office is done and that I should quietly take my retirement. But
when have I ever done anything quietly?
For those who care, I started off as a 8-8-10-13-17-17-11 Slasher, and I leave here
with STR/WIT/WILL raises, and 47 learned skills. That gives me ratings of Advanced
Experts in Attack, Initiative and Riposte, with an Expert rating in Decisiveness. The
commission tells me my favourite weapon is the ipie (though the boss tells me I lack
both the Wit and Deftness to use it well), with a Very High offensive effort and a Low
activity level for a rhythm. I have a tendency to learn riposte skills, and I don't
have a particular favourite tactic to use while dueling.
I'm off to test the mettle of my metal in the Dark Arena. Hopefully that will let me
retire comfortably in Storm Rock.

SPY REPORT
Welcome back to Telorinthe! We are the only slow no tourney arena in the land,
and we are currently the most active no tourney arena in the land. Neither Sidara nor
Huard will like it, but we have more active teams than either Seam or Shadowspire. It
was a great day in the Telorinthe as always. We have a very active manager base here,
so it is always good to see the challenges and the avoids among the gladiator guilds.
Ah, there is nothing I love more than arena day, but you probably already know that!
Let's see what happened on the sands, shall we?
Hillary Clinton left us after today's fight. Dark Oracle sent her to the Dark
Arena. I mean, she is immortal, so what is the harm? Hillary butchered Spymaster in a
quick 1-minute fight. Hillary didn't need the service of the healers, but poor, poor
Spymaster! He really is a nice guy. I know because I have lunch with him and a few
others from the Dark Arena crew every Thursday. I wonder if he will make it this
week?
With Hillary going to the Dark Arena, the highest recognition gets the throne.
Our title fight turned out to be a fight we have seen before over the last few turns.
The previous bouts were random matchups, but this one came down to a challenge as
Choco challenged Borys. Choco might have sought closure since their series is tied at
1-1, but no longer, as Borys wins the match and takes over the throne. While Choco did
not get the throne, he did get an invitation to the Isle. If my records are correct,
this is Queen Artemis's first graduate in Telorinthe. Wait, I've just been informed
it is her first graduate ever! Congrats to Choco for the throne and invitation, and
congrats to Queen Artemis for the personal milestone.
There were only two deaths outside of the Dark Arena this turn, and Queen Artemis
has claimed both! The first was a challenge from the young warrior Simba against
Hondo Telo Hammer. The bookies said it was brutal, and I have to agree. Well, I
believe any fight that ends in a death at the very least can be called brutal. The
second death came when the winless Helhound matched up with Torn ACL. Perhaps going
onto the sands with an injury isn't the best idea, as Torn ACL found out. Helhound is
no longer winless and has a notch in the kill column too. How do you think these
disputes get settled between siblings? Regular blood feuds? Feud at home? I guess
we will wait and see!
The most avoided team was Conjure the Sun. They were mostly avoided by House of
Fur. The most challenged warrior this week comes from the Conjure the Sun stable.
Twinkle Twinkle gets that distinction, but it wasn't Twinkle Twinkle being the most
challenged that everyone noticed today. It was his 29 point down challenge against
D&D 3.5 that became the talk of the town. TT's win contributed to Conjure the Sun's
2-3 effort.
Time for me to go! I said the last turn we had the potential to see lots of
graduations. Well, we only saw one, so do you know what that means? The potential
shifts to the next turn! Come back and see if anyone else is going to get their
invite to the Isle and Immortality and I . . . can't think of anything else that
