DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Warriors perform very differently. It is possible to get a warrior with the
exact same numbers and style and the results will vary, sometimes a lot more than
you'd expect. Why is this?
1) Favorites (especially learn) differ, and even without favorites, your learning
will be different. Take me, for example. In 8 turns, I've learned 3 initiative
skills, 1 riposte skill, 2 attack skills, and 11 defense skills. That suggests my
favorite learn is defense. Another lunger Assur has with 17 learned skills has 7
initiative skills, 2 riposte skills, 4 attack skills, 3 defense skills, and 1
decisiveness skill.
2) Warriors roll differently. With 12 str and 11 siz like me, something like 68%
will roll good damage, 23% normal damage (me), and 9% great damage. Endurance also
rolls differently. And skill bonuses vary a lot (and most warriors have at least one
bonus or curse area). I rolled +3 attack and +4 init (There are generators and charts
which help you understand and determine these things).
3) Matchups differ. I've been on the throne most of my time here, but I have
mostly faced the 'easier' champion level stand ins. I have managed to beat them and
hence I am 7-1. It is very unlikely that I'd beat Khalhums Dwarf any time early in my
career. (Lungers tend to struggle with warriors who try to take fights into later
minutes in the fight). So if I'd faced the Dwarf 3 times, I'd have 3 more losses.
4) Fights themselves are random. Fight the same person twice and the fights can
look different. Fight them ten times in a row and it is very likely both parties will
win some.

SPY REPORT
Greetings, warriors of NOBLISH ISLAND! Once again I've been called out of
retirement for my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. What's with SUNDAY
DRIVER? He actually beat C CARS' DODGE CHARGER, and walked away with 10 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at C CARS. DODGE CHARGER lost 9 points to SUNDAY
DRIVER. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe DODGE CHARGER will provide more easy
wins... Our Duelmaster has lost, folks, lost to VETERAN MERCENARY, BUT SLOW is still
the Duelmaster because he has the most recognition points! Wouldn't it be nice to
have live subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of
convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. How
well I know the feeling of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of
practive, C CARS! Management must be dealin', as the boys at BASH BROS DRIVING ain't
reelin'! C CARS' mad! What do people see in KIA SOUL? Its 3-6-0? C CARS ain't
talkin', but it's got 15 points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? Death is no stranger to a warrior. C CARS' JEEP CHEROKEE led
a good life before leaving NOBLISH ISLAND. Many would be proud to leave behind a
6-3-0. Here's some advice: study your opponent, master many skills, fight dirty.
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and
good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen
