DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
So the most common way to advance from a regular arena to the 'Advanced' arenas is to
fulfill 4 requirements: 14 arena wins, 20 arena fights, an advanced expert rating +
an expert rating, and 17 political points.
Why would I want to go to arena 100? Well for starters, you become immortal. Death
loses its sting, since you will simply lose your opportunity to train that turn and be
able to fight again the next turn. That is a pretty big deal. But wait, that's not
all! Training becomes easier, too. Instead of your first train being easy and the
second at half chance, third at one quarter chance, etc. until it reaches a minimum,
your first three trains are easy, the fourth at half chance, etc. Skill training is
the same. Because of this, many managers only do a single train before advancing or
graduating.
I talked about ratings last time. Arena wins and fights is straight forward. That is
your record in the arena. Political points (PP's) have to do with being ranked as a
challenger champion or the duelmaster. You get 2 PP's for being in the challenger
champion class. You get 5 PP's for being the duelmaster.
Simple? Sort of. There are a host of other ways to graduate, but the 14 wins/20
fights/ratings/pp's is the most common. The other ways involve more fights with less
ratings and less wins with more ratings and FE (this involves lots of tourney fights).
All of these ways still require 17 PP's. There have been documented graduations with
less than 17 PP's, but they are rare enough that I'm not convinced it isn't a bug in
the program. Finally, 4 times a year, the gladiatorial commission evaluates warriors
that belong in Advanced Duelmasters and manually graduates them. Nobody knows exactly
what earns you a manual graduation, but the two most common things are 90-some FE or
total skills well over 150. These warriors are always tourney warriors, meaning their
focus is on fighting in tournaments, not in the arena. Managers who do this are
experts at avoiding the 'regular' criteria, allowing their warriors to fight as long
as possible in tournaments, hoping to win a tourney prize.
Seems like I should mention tourney prizes next time, assuming I am still here.

poor. So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. The BASH BROS QUARANTINE
guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know
where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, FRIENDS fought ONE EYED JACK and
gained 18 points and contributed to BASH BROS QUARANTINE's 4-1-0. ONE EYED JACK has
lost to FRIENDS, falling 14 points, while helping make 5 CARD DRAW a 3-2-0 turn. The
attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and PETS remains NOBLISH ISLAND's
top warrior for another turn. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from
unimpeachable sources that The Swinging Aardvark uses trolls in their stew. Talk
about gristle!
The crowd's roar, the smell of iron and leather, mixed with sweat, what more
could a warrior ask of life? Well, besides that. DISTINCT COLORS has cause to stand
tall, as they were NOBLISH ISLAND's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is
a team to beat. And guess who avoided DISTINCT COLORS stable the most? Believe it
or not, it was BASH BROS QUARANTINE. Anyone surprised? The most challenged warrior
this turn was 5 CARD DRAW's warrior ONE EYED JACK. More fighters challenged him than
challenged the Duelmaster!
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or
hide when the fight is over. Consider well.
