A SYNOPSIS OF THREE SUCCESSFUL CURRENT ACTIVELY RUNNING D2 TEAMS

The Consortium runs many full arena teams. Perhaps the discussion of these three
random long-running teams will provide knowledge or clues for the New D2 manager. The
fifteen warriors have been intermingled so that the three arena teams remain unknown.
The warriors are divided by style.

Note for below: Q = Question, A = Answer, C = Comment

The fifteen warriors are: 158-69-7, .696. Let's look at this scenario a little
closer to comment and question.

Q1- Are these such great roll ups/warriors? No. They are pretty typical and average,
with it looking like the more ugly roll ups were made into TPs. In long-standing
arenas, The Consortium seldom DAs in search of "better" roll ups.

A1- It looks like it does not, at all, take wonderfully quality designed warriors to
win well. (Well = 60%+ in Consortium terms.) Indeed, mediocre warriors often do better
than godlings in arenas -- especially early on.

Q2- Why only six styles? Where are the AB, PL, PR, PS?

A2- Remember from Newby 101 that The Consortium recommends running the easier designs,
such as offensives and total parries? The above summary points out that such advice
might even be good for running normal arenas. There are some AB, PL, PR, PS in other
Consortium arenas, and all ten designs are definitely on Consortium tournament teams.
However, to make those four missing designs run well and win often, it often takes
godling or near-godling designs. Godling roll ups can be very, very hard to find.

C1- TP's, if scums (as all five of these are) can take a long time to graduate to ADM.
(See TPs #1 and #5.) Why? They are typically "stupidish" and have a very low skill
learn rate. Also, time/fights are also used to train stats rather than skills. The
physicals are far more important than the skills for a scum. Typical graduation
qualifications require 14 wins and 20 fights, which is often very easy for scum, but
skill ratings are also required, and they are hard to achieve if one is learning few
skills.

C2- Taking off on C2 above, some warriors are designed to burn. (Train stats and
acquire skills through some of the stat trains.) All the TPs above were as such. And,
take a look at slasher #1, bashers #1 and 3, and striker #1 above. They, too were
designed to burn. In non-scum, how does one determine a warrior is designed to burn?
The Consortium definition -- many stats are set just below prime skill-learning stats
(like 10 DF to 11, and 14 WT to 15, and 16 WL to 17, or 14ST to 15) AND the warrior
has sufficient WL to allow probable stat raises. (E.g. 14+WL; 14 WL = 70% chance to
earn the 1st stat of a type.)

C3- While only six styles were used on these three teams, the mix of offensives and
defensives is solid, allowing for better optimization of challenges and avoids. This
probably adds to the nice overall w/l record.

Hopefully this team synopsis has helped your understanding of many concepts of the
game. You can find more detail on the concepts inferred in this article by reading the
spotlights in the Noblish Island (DM93). Feel free to ask me questions about this
spotlight or the Consortium concepts. You will be answered.

BASH BROS TBALL (designing a team by Assur)

Tee Ball season is upon us. In spite of the names of the warriors below, I would
gladly have all this back to enjoy another season. Perhaps with one of my
grandchildren.
First up, we've all been out in the wind. Strong enough and it can blow away
anything and everything. Even the normal evening win can cause problems while trying
to enjoy dinner. This warrior came to me as 12-9-8-14-5-8-14. I almost went 15-10-8-
15-7-8-19 AB. Then a friend suggested this design... I don't usually look to add 6 to
con, so I hadn't seen it... 15-15-8-15-8-8-15 PR. What a cool set of numbers. And a
set of numbers that works as a PR. The skills are a bit lower than I'd like and it
might come back with normal damage, but it is workable. Welcome a fun warrior named
WINDY.
Next we all know that if you go to a Tee Ball game, you'd better be prepared for
cold; TOO COLD. I remember wearing winter jackets in May before. This warrior came
to me as 7-13-12-7-10-10-11. This would make a decent lower strength scum. Something
like 9-19-12-7-16-10-11 (several variations available). Scum TP's win alot, but their
fights are boring. I definitely recommend one of the better styles if you are going
to run average stuff like this. I choose a lunger and optimize the numbers to get as
close to LO suitability as I can and 15 will. The final design: 10-13-12-13-15-10-11
LU
Next up? SNACK DUTY. This can be last minute scrambling to bring the team snack
OR the dreaded snack shack duty. 4-9-14-13-9-9-12. I went 9-9-14-17-10-10-15 ST.
Hard to beat that. You could try a 17 deftness AB, but Consortium loves to beat my
AB's here, so I'll stick with the better style.
13-8-6-8-12-13-10. This setup is my favorite on the team. So I'll give him the
worst potential part of tee ball for his name. If you get unlucky, your child will
have a BAD COACH!!! I'm going to try this as a WS (TP or LU might be better). I add
points to hit a lot of break points. 17-9-6-11-17-13-11 WS.
Finally, the guy you're sitting next to forgets that these are 5 year olds and his
own self worth hinges on whether the team wins or loses this game! COMPETITIVE DAD!
4-10-16-12-5-13-10. Another low strength warrior, this one without the high deftness.
But add high size and low will to the mix. This is not the 'best' setup in the world.
I highly recommend either DAing these or making them strikers. 8-10-16-17-9-13-11 ST
looks ok.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Yeah, it's true. I am your three-time Duelmaster. And, yes, it is true that I did TV
in the recent Tempe Face-To-Face. But as my record shows, I AM beatable. (I went 8-3
in that tournament.) Five different folk have defeated me. One particular style stands
out in doing so, but I am not going to talk about that.

I look forward to arena fights against all the new competition here on Noblish. But we
have to hurry as I can only have two more fights here. So help me out, ok?

                                      SPY REPORT

Good day, in NOBLISH ISLAND a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets
poor. So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. On their very first turn,
SIMPLY DESSERTS had a 4-1-1, and with this kind of luck or skill, should do well.
Welcome to NOBLISH ISLAND. And let's see, PLAYER fought SPAM and gained 19 points
and contributed to BB BACHELOR's 3-2-0. SILENT MAJORITY has lost to UNCLEAN, falling
16 points, while helping make SILENT GENERATION a 3-2-0 turn. The attempts to
dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and WW II remains NOBLISH ISLAND's top warrior
for another turn. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped
under the table at The Swinging Aardvark?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. I also notice that the SAY WHAT stable was
the most avoided team this turn. Come on NOBLISH ISLAND, what are you afraid of?
And guess who avoided SAY WHAT stable the most? Believe it or not, it was LUCKY
RABBITS. Anyone surprised?
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. Is it really true that NOBLISH ISLAND has more dishwashers per capita that
fighters? Just thought I'd ask...
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Well, I'm burning daylight here in NOBLISH ISLAND and I've a long
road ahead of me. Happy Trails. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--

My response before and now remains:
Bashers can and should be bashed.
     Can they win?!? Yes.
     Can they TC?!? Yes.
Are they the 9th worst style overall?!? Yes.
Are they below average at all levels of the game?!? Yes. -- Assur
P.S. Are they my favorite style in spite of this?!? Yes.

Welcome all the new teams. We (FDR and I) are here to help you in your entry or
