TEAM SPOTLIGHT
In the thunderous arena of gladiatorial combat, where blood flows as freely as the
cheers of the crowd, one faction stands above the rest in both ferocity and
ruthlessness: The Imperial Cabal. Under the iron-fisted rule of Emperor Calus, this
formidable faction embodies the relentless pursuit of victory, their every move a
testament to their unyielding determination and unwavering resolve.
Emperor Calus, a figure of imposing stature and steely resolve, leads The Imperial
Cabal with a command that brooks no dissent. His presence alone is enough to strike
fear into the hearts of even the bravest adversaries, his gaze piercing through the
chaos of battle with the intensity of a thousand suns.
At the vanguard of The Imperial Cabal surge the Siege Dancers: Niruul, Ozletc, and
Tazaroc, small and quick, their movements swift and precise, their attacks relentless
and unforgiving. Like shadows given form, they weave through the melee with deadly
efficiency, leaving naught but devastation in their wake. Beside them march the
Legionary Cabal: Bracus Zahn, and the mighty Valus Thunn, towering colossi whose every
step reverberates with the promise of destruction, their armored forms impervious to
the blows of their foes. But it is not merely their martial prowess that sets The
Imperial Cabal apart: it is their sheer determination to emerge victorious at any
cost. With six words for advance and none for retreat, they press ever forward, their
resolve unshakeable, their thirst for conquest unquenchable.
As they enter the arena, bathed in the crimson light of battle, The Imperial Cabal is
a force to be reckoned with. With Emperor Calus at their helm and their legion of
warriors at their side, they stand ready to carve a path of destruction through any
who dare oppose them, leaving nothing but chaos and devastation in their wake.
-- Emperor Calus, Imperial Cabal

BB Face to Face
This spotlight is overdue, but time is something I just don't have much of at the
moment. So this spotlight will be different than most of my design spots.
First warrior: 8-12-13-12-5-10-10Low Will with average stats suggests a low endurance
burn style (those styles are AB/PS/PR/ST/TP). Too much SZ/SP total for me to make a
PR. I'm not super fond of low will TP's. Not enough deftness for an AB. And I want
better stats than this for a PS. That leaves a striker, 9-12-13-17-10-10-13 ST is how
I went. BROKE NEWSLETTERS only rolled normal damage, so it is a sad world for him.
Given that he is losing, I should try training strength to get a damage bump.
Second: 14-8-15-13-9-8-3 The 3 deftness usually says LU/SL/BA, maybe WS. I love my
bashers, so I went 14-8-15-17-15-8-7 BA. SANDY CALL OUT rolled fine, with amusing
bonuses in defense and parry. (Uh, boss, what do I do with those bonuses? Ignore them
and use your normal 10-10 strategy.)
Third: 13-16-9-9-5-10-8 It is dangerous to name warriors with prophetic names like
TOMBSTONE FEATURE. All too often, they live by their name. These are difficult
warriors to design. A striker at 14-16-9-15-9-10-11 could work, but the skills are
pretty low. I went with 17-19-9-11-7-10-11 TP. That should win fights, but it isn't
pretty or exciting. (Plus I have too many strikers and bashers on the team.)
Fourth up: 13-14-8-12-5-9-9 Another low will warrior. Going striker again with this
one. 15-14-8-17-9-10-11 makes a BAD MATCH UP. This one DID get good damage and should
be fine.
Finally: 12-3-18-9-10-8-10 When you get guys this big, you should look at ST/BA/LU
first (or the dark arena) I love my bashers, so... 12-3-18-15-15-10-11 BA it is. He
might have been HUNG OVER when they were passing out damage, though great damage is
what you should expect from this one.
This is not a great team. There are numerous players that would be happy to donate a
better team to a new player who was looking at this sheet. We want new players to
succeed and have fun and keep playing. There are better sheets...

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings from a son of the Republic. So, I lost the contest but still enjoy the
favour of the crowd. Many of these charming faces that adorn my nights must thus blend
into the crowd. To you, T.C., thank you for your kind words. I salute you back. To
you, Alcibiades, welcome. We behold the Greeks as brethren, adept in the carving of
marble, sagacious in the governance of their cities, and valorous upon the field of
battle. We shall be honoured to face you, and may death turn its gaze away from us. To
all of you, gladiators of Noblish Island, fight with honour. Only the proud are
ashamed of being defeated. The wise view it as an apprenticeship along the road to
renown.
-- Publius Scipio
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. For every winner there is a loser. Speaking of losers, lets take a
look at SLAUGHTER HOUSE V, who went down to 3rd from 8th. Life is tough. Coming up
with a solid 4-1-0 outing, WE THE PEOPLE has advanced 5 places in the rankings. Ya
know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. WOLFGANG was overcame by
BUBBA and drops 10 points. Our last turn's Duelmaster has lost, folks, lost to M.
CHARDINEE, and PUBLIUS SCIPIO has made the way for a new Duelmaster! With PUBLIUS
SCIPIO clearing the throne, DM - FOLK of DOC STEELE takes a proud seat as NOBLISH
ISLAND's new Duelmaster, by virtue of recognition points. Can you believe they are
paying me 10 gold to deliver this stuff?
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the NOBLISH ISLAND arena.
And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid ROMAN REPUBLIC, please raise you
hand. Wow. Does NOBLISH ISLAND really have that many liars? Okay, so I may not be
funny, but catch DM - FOLK's act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft
at running from ROMAN REPUBLIC. Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, BROKE
NEWSLETTERS would be president. Although it may be a contest he doesn't want to win.
VALUS THUNN of IMPERIAL CABAL had better have a good reason for challenging down 9
points in a challenge which he lost. I thought VALUS THUNN showed great skill and
promise when he lost to WEE JERRY. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Knowing when to use the right tactics at
the proper time is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster.
Well, there's the manager of the NOBLISH ISLAND giving me the 'cut' sign (or is
that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the
world's best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. See ya
next time I'm on this circuit!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Nice spot, Alcibiades! -- T.C.
And a grand salute to Duelmaster Scipio, who pens a fine DM Column. -- T.C.
And salutations to Assur, wherever you are. I guess I get to fight your godlings
style-hidden? -- T.C.
Niruul, I hope I didn't take too much blood. I want you back for another try. -- Vlad
Tobere, I keep pulling, and I keep losing. One would think I might learn? -- OAB
Hung Over, count your blessings as I left you alive. -- Mannequin
P.S. But perhaps you are no blessing to Assur?
Bonesplitter, great name! But names don't necessarily mean a win do they? -- Bubba
Bad Matchups, you should know by now I am not one to mess with! -- Doc Steele
Broke Newsletters -- I think you missed a spot on my left foot, otherwise I have
wounds from head to toe! The only consolation is that I was somehow deemed the victor.
Now, pass the bandages! -- Arachnol
Bubba -- Ah, scum. And I mean that in the best possible way! There is a certain charm
to that style and it was not lost on me, although the fight certainly was. Thanks for
at least teaching me a skill in defeat! -- Bone Splitter
Ozletc -- That first blow you landed would have felled an ox. Thank goodness I am a
Shewish Giant and not a minotaur! Glad to come out on top and even more glad to come
out with my soul and body still together!
Valus Thunn -- Ok, I thought we were going to fight when you counted to five, not
three. Also, I can't count past four, so that explains how you got the jump on me. I
was trying to do math in my head and Chonk no good at math. -- Chonk
Tazaroc -- This fight was all about the jump. And you got me! Maybe we will meet
again, or maybe I will avoid you for a time. I would say to pick on someone your own
size, but I am an inch taller! -- Wee Jerry
Red Legion -- just rec'd your diplo. (2/27) I am indeed The Consortium. Welcome back
from 2007! Glad to see you have introduced another member of the family to the game.
Looking forward to competing with the Red Legion and the Imperial Cabal. Ask away with
the questions! Both Assur and myself are here with answers. (He is going through an
intercontinental moving stage at the moment and will be fully back with us soon, I
hope.) -- The Consortium
Something has changed with the boys, perhaps since Quintus's death. By the Gods,
Scipio is a dissolute who frequents women and Bacchus with equal fervour, and who
recites some Greek poetry to the annoyance of drunkards. This is common knowledge. But
lately, he seems possessed, advancing on the arena sand like a tightrope walker over a
chasm. Cato, the stoic, only speaks about the virtues of honoring the Gods and working
the land. Gracchus is aflame with reforms on land redistribution being discussed by
the Roman senate and speaks of becoming a tribune of the people himself. Only Caudex
seems spared by this fever, but for how long? -- Valerius Flamma
Patience and a good blade take care of a steel tortoise. -- Caudex
DM Folk -- It is a bit disturbing seeing ads addressed to me signed by warriors whose
names are the same as various managers in the game... -- Assur
