Reflections by the Captain of the Guard
Okay, so Olaf wanted a Captain of the Guard's column. So, I suppose I should go
ahead and say something.
First off, as some of you may have noticed from Drake's Semester Reports last turn,
this is neither my first time in the Guard nor as Captain. Hopefully, I'll be able
to make my reign last a little longer than last time around. I've stocked up on a
few extra cases of Mountain Dew Code Red just to be on the safe side.
Rolex, I was really expecting more of a fight out of you considering what you'd done
to my teammate the turn before. Still, I congratulate you on the skill you learned.
I have it on good authority from some of my team mates in Free Blades that it's a
skill particularly difficult for your style to pick up. You can thank me for it
later.
Looking over the ranks it looks like I can challenge one of Crip's warriors or one of
Crip's warriors or another one of Crip's warriors. It's such a difficult decision
because no matter what I choose, I risk taking a loss to one of Crip's warriors.
That's just too embarrassing to contemplate. So, I think I'll pick my challenges by
putting on a blindfold and throwing darts at the newsletter.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Oh, heck. We just started a thunderstorm here--unseasonally early, too, it
shouldn't happen for a couple of weeks yet--and the candles all blew out. I can't
write this stuff in the dark. Anybody got a match? Ah, much better. But they tell
me the candles might go again at any instant, so I gotta be quick. What if I don't
want to be quick? What if I want to chat, exchange gossip, generally natter on? Oh.
Heck. If I don't get this spy report done before the candles go again, they'll use
the golem and I won't get paid. So much for chatting.
Royal Flush was most avoided by The Stormguards. Buddercup was most challenged.
We're up to forty-four fights this time, which is good. Not as good as, say,
Free Blades with their sixty-some fights, but not bad. Twenty-three challenge
matches, which is great. There were days when we didn't have twenty-three FIGHTS.

CUBA (26-3917) (16-6-0,54) of HERE TO PHOENIX fought MIME (2-4966) (18-10-2,77)
of HARLEQUINS. CUBA was assassinated by MIME in a 1 minute one-sided duel. When you
see mimes pretending to fight, this is the one they're copying. A mean dude.
SPRING SHOE (30-4178) (17-22-2,52) of CARNIVAL fought TORATORATORRES (11-726)
(20-18-0,70) of U.B.O.S.M. SPRING SHOE was subdued by TORATORATORRES in a popular 2
minute brutal match. Bet Spring Shoe wishes he'd stayed at the county fair.
SULTAN (10-4516) (21-7-0,64) of SIR AGLIO fought RAVEN (71-3435) (14-14-0,52) of
2ND ARCTIC GUARDS. SULTAN savagely defeated RAVEN in an action packed 5 minute
bloody competition. Next time, stay out of the Arctic, Sultan tW.
OSCAR (50-3153) (22-5-0,60) of OPEN SESAME fought ANGAR (10-4933) (15-12-1,58)
of WAR HAWKS. OSCAR viciously subdued ANGAR in a popular 2 minute bloody conflict.
I like buns with sesame seeds on 'em.
LETHE (9-4782) (21-14-2,49) of BLUE MOON fought PERFECT TEN (47-4218) (20-15-
1,63) of ROYAL FLUSH. LETHE subdued PERFECT TEN in a 2 minute conflict. Is this a
two-win streak for Lethe? Has she found her "Isle Feet"? (And if not, what kind of
feet is she using? Inquiring minds want to know.)
NASTY NITTERS (63-2383) (14-19-2,59) of TOMATO ENFORCER fought SKI MASK (58-
5869) (24-44-0,50) of CIRQUE DU MASQUES. NASTY NITTERS vanquished SKI MASK in a 1
minute mismatched duel. The ignominy of it! The Big Cheese of Dueling Ducks,
vanquished with a couple of over-ripe tomatoes.
AVARICIOUS AVON (63-2388) (17-13-0,58) of TOMATO ENFORCER fought LAKE SAILOR
(101-2) (0-0-0,30) of Local Bums. AVARICIOUS AVON was overpowered by LAKE SAILOR in
a 1 minute one-sided fight. And welcome to Home Guard, Avon.
JOE KING (47-2223) (25-41-0,99) of ROYAL FLUSH fought KATANA (62-3769) (9-7-
0,73) of SAMURAI KIDS II. JOE KING overpowered KATANA in a crowd pleasing 1 minute
one-sided competition. And now Joe is, I presume, Flushed with victory. I hear he's
buying tonight at the Bash N' Glug.
NO CHASER (33-6490) (24-16-0,91) of JOYS OF BOOZE fought JUGGLER (2-4965) (20-9-
0,68) of HARLEQUINS. NO CHASER was overpowered by JUGGLER in a 1 minute uneven bout.
MIDNIGHT FAITH (75-2651) (18-11-1,99) of PARANOID ASYLUM fought BABOO (74-2711)
(38-86-0,51) of WILD AMINALS. MIDNIGHT FAITH was unbelievably bested by BABOO in an
action packed 8 minute match. The unbelievable part is that there was action for
most of the eight minutes. I thought Baboo was going to have a heat stroke, but he
didn't. Too bad.
HAPPY JACK (19-4086) (31-21-2,93) of THE MOTHERSHIP fought PREACHER (7-5083)
(16-6-2,55) of THRILLZ & KILLZ. HAPPY JACK overpowered PREACHER in a 1 minute one-
sided match. Ah... no verbal bricks here, right?
KHARN (51-2997) (31-33-4,93) of COLD STEEL fought NUTT BRITTLE (19-3983) (16-7-
0,49) of CARNIVAL. KHARN demolished NUTT BRITTLE in an action packed 1 minute one-
sided struggle. Nut brittle's okay, but what's really good--I can demolish it
myself, easy--is like those hot cinnamon almonds you see around, only with pecans.
Good stuff. Fattening, of course, but being dead, I don't gain weight. One of the
benefits.
FOREVER MAN (38-4168) (26-35-0,116) of SANDS OF TIME fought QUEEN AMAZONIA (12-
4796) (28-34-1,93) of DARKMOON. FOREVER MAN was savagely defeated by QUEEN AMAZONIA
in a 2 minute brutal struggle. The bigger they are, the faster they fall?
VAL BEMERIKI (51-5018) (32-21-3,136) of GENOCIDE fought HALLIE O'DENE (58-6018)
(35-52-0,94) of CIRQUE DU MASQUES. VAL BEMERIKI was subdued by HALLIE O'DENE in an
action packed 1 minute contest. Oops! Somebody trying out a new strategy?
HYSTERIAS (19-4047) (26-25-3,151) of ANARCHY fought HOT HAZEL (98-608) (14-19-
4,147) of JUNKYARD WARS. HYSTERIAS was overpowered by HOT HAZEL in an action packed
1 minute one-sided bout. When Hazel's hot, she's HOT. Of course, everybody's hot at
this time of year....
QRAPPY (10-4761) (26-44-1,172) of QUBIT fought X THE BOLD (10-16) (51-46-1,134)
of WAR HAWKS. QRAPPY beat X THE BOLD in a popular 3 minute gory match. Better look
lively, X, or you're going to lose that winning record.
KAIDEN (35-3108) (67-72-1,202) of VIOLENT FEMS fought CRUSADER LORD (31-3946)
(31-17-3,170) of THE STORMGUARDS. KAIDEN overpowered CRUSADER LORD in a popular 1
minute uneven duel. What can I say? Kaiden isn't on that team by accident. She's
mean.
ABOUT YOUR CAR... (78-778) (94-130-6,183) of BAD NEWS fought KAP N' BELLE (25-
4312) (24-35-1,169) of CARNIVAL. ABOUT YOUR CAR... was viciously subdued by KAP N'
BELLE in an exciting 2 minute duel. The collision with the calliope was not only
exciting, it was LOUD.
50 SUCKS (60-4129) (45-29-0,204) of JOKA MASHER! fought ROLEX WATCH (32-3732)
(36-26-0,190) of LUST MUPPETS. 50 SUCKS overcame ROLEX WATCH in an action packed 2
minute brutal bout. Maybe Rolex needs a new battery.
BEAUTY QUEEN (47-3352) (30-31-3,212) of ROYAL FLUSH fought DIRT WORM (82-2315)
(48-22-0,202) of VERMIN!! BEAUTY QUEEN was outwaited by DIRT WORM in an action
packed 7 minute bout. If the fight was an "outwaited," how come it also says here
that it was "action packed"? I think we've got a little confusion here.
And the challenge matches--

(24-16-1,85) of ANARCHY. Up 8. ROT TEN EGGS was viciously subdued by OSIRIS in a
popular 1 minute Challenge fight. I gotta tell you, when I see an egg that's gone
rotten, I get out. Osiris has my salute for having the nerve (not to mention the
stupidity, or maybe he just can't smell) to take on this difficult problem.
LUNA TYCK (33-5761) (26-26-1,56) of DRAKE'S PETTING ZOO challenged XISS (11-
1305) (22-24-4,80) of U.B.O.S.M. Up 24. LUNA TYCK overpowered XISS in a popular 1
minute one-sided Challenge duel. Why was this fight popular? Damned if I know.
SABLE (2-4950) (23-10-2,78) of HARLEQUINS challenged CARRIE NATION (64-4054)
(29-60-0,81) of REFORMERS. Up 3. SABLE unbelievably bested CARRIE NATION in an
exciting 3 minute gory Challenge bout. And what's really unbelievable is that Sable
did it while soused.
ODEN WARFIEND (11-1335) (23-16-2,78) of U.B.O.S.M. challenged GREASESPOT (60-
5964) (20-27-0,90) of BUMS 'R' US. Up 12. ODEN WARFIEND was demolished by
GREASESPOT in a 1 minute uneven Challenge bout. Damn! Why should flickering candles
make my ink vanish? There's something fiendish going on here.
APPLE JACK (47-4011) (24-15-4,77) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged MOD COD (55-2638)
(37-65-1,86) of RHYME TYME. Up 9. APPLE JACK overpowered MOD COD in a 1 minute
uneven Challenge fight. Heck, I'd take hard cider over fish any day.
ANDAR (11-1038) (17-10-1,63) of U.B.O.S.M. challenged MEN IN BLACK (49-3157)
(38-88-1,66) of RPG'S. Up 3. ANDAR was handily defeated by MEN IN BLACK in a 3
minute Challenge competition. A bold move by the youngster, but the Men are not as
easy as their record suggests.
STARBUCK (6-5387) (20-13-0,84) of SCIENCE FICTION challenged GOSSAMER (98-407)
(7-7-4,23) of PERFECTION QUEST. Down 61. Working on the record here? (Okay, I
forget off hand what the record is, but at the least, this Starbuck is in training.)
STARBUCK was overpowered by GOSSAMER in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge match. There
should be a special category for people who LOSE on whopping down-challenges.
NEVERMORE (1-5260) (16-16-2,95) of LAB EXPERIMENTS challenged BURGER KING (47-
4152) (26-19-2,98) of ROYAL FLUSH. Up 3. NEVERMORE was beaten by BURGER KING in an
exciting 1 minute Challenge match. I had a Burger King once. Once was enough.
LOOMING BIRD (82-424) (39-53-3,127) of YOU FEEL THAT! challenged MASHER (60-
4553) (28-30-3,117) of JOKA MASHER!. Down 10. LOOMING BIRD bested MASHER in a
popular 1 minute Challenge brawl. Definition of "looming."
OBSESSED AVENGER (15-2162) (36-37-1,136) of DRAKE'S BAR-B-Q challenged POPE PAUL
II (79-1317) (22-10-0,147) of CHAPEL ROCK. Up 11. OBSESSED AVENGER viciously
subdued POPE PAUL II in an exciting 9 minute Challenge fray. I'd really like to hear
the inside story behind the Avenger's actions on this one.
STEVE MCQUEEN (47-3908) (26-29-1,140) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged BUDDERCUP (60-
5967) (27-20-0,102) of BUMS 'R' US. Down 38. This is ol' Most Challenged Buddercup
here. STEVE MCQUEEN outlasted BUDDERCUP in a popular 10 minute bloody Challenge
duel. And probably the longest fight, but I'm not going to hunt through all the
notes to make sure. It was long enough, anyway.
SPAZZ (33-6207) (30-22-0,134) of SNOTZI'S II challenged EMERALD DRAGONFLY (60-
2586) (53-58-1,133) of MAGICK. Down 1. SPAZZ was demolished by EMERALD DRAGONFLY in
a 1 minute one-sided Challenge brawl. I didn't know dragonflies could breath fire.
Amazing.
JACK SPRAT (47-2954) (43-48-4,148) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged DELICE THE RED (56-
3401) (35-39-1,134) of BAD APPLES. Down 14. JACK SPRAT slimly lost to DELICE THE
RED in an exciting 1 minute Challenge contest. If Delice continues to fight in those
skimpy outfits, some of the fans are going to have heart attacks.
TALOS (31-2069) (38-15-0,123) of THE STORMGUARDS challenged COM DOT (65-6217)
(31-19-0,126) of TOO GOOD FOR ME. Up 3. TALOS was subdued by COM DOT in a crowd
pleasing 3 minute Challenge match. The crowd would've been MORE pleased if Com Dot
had gone down.
SORROW (1-2863) (24-21-2,165) of SWEORDMASTERS challenged TANNIN (65-4409) (36-
23-2,165) of CRIMSON PEGASI. Straight across. SORROW overpowered TANNIN in a
popular 2 minute gory uneven Challenge match. And he wasn't even sorry.
W.T. POOH (33-4430) (51-37-0,171) of SNOTZI'S II challenged TICKLES (9-3486)
(32-49-1,127) of MY PETS. Down, uh... 44. W.T. POOH defeated TICKLES in an action
packed 5 minute gory Challenge duel. What a surprise.
SIR CUITOUS (10-4514) (32-19-0,169) of SIR AGLIO challenged BUBBLES (12-4981)
(21-35-1,107) of POWERPUFF GIRLS. Down 62. This stuff must be contagious. SIR
CUITOUS handily defeated BUBBLES in a 1 minute uneven Challenge melee. They went
around on it a couple of times.
SPAZ GHOST (47-4161) (36-15-1,176) of DRAKE'S COMICS challenged WURP (10-18)
(43-47-1,187) of WAR HAWKS. Up 11. SPAZ GHOST was narrowly defeated by WURP in a
crowd pleasing 2 minute Challenge brawl. Amazing, I can't think of a thing to say
about this.
WAHOO (26-3916) (22-13-1,152) of HERE TO PHOENIX challenged STRONGEST #3 (40-
173) (42-82-1,147) of SOLARAN BERSERK. Down 5. WAHOO vanquished STRONGEST #3 in a 1
minute mismatched Challenge fight. Wahoo gets the badge that says "#2: We try
harder."

2,193) of THUNDR + LITENING. Up 5. R'SHANN savagely defeated LUDO in a crowd
pleasing 9 minute bloody Challenge match. Something about summer, the crowd really
loves savagery and blood.

(71-1834) (34-18-1,195) of EDGE OF EXTINCTION. Down 29. FANNY BELT unbelievably
bested BLACK RHINO in a 2 minute Challenge brawl. Bringing the Rhino that much
closer to extinction.

Drake -- Nice report there. Be prepared to add Forever Man to your list of worst
warriors. He is, by my count, the worst warrior in an advanced arena...EVER. He has
around a negative 28 base and stands 8 feet tall. I don't think he'll be winning a
fight anytime soon, so that 0-14 record will fall. Pretty easily too, I'd wager. --

Drake -- Also, if you're looking for long fights, I'm about to graduate a decent
scum. I can just move him here if you like and start getting some standing around
contests going. I was able to get about a 2000 minute fight in Darkholm several
turns ago and had a couple others in the several hundred minutes too. I just need
another pudly scum to fight with here. That shouldn't be too hard to find, right? --

This sort of thing plays hell with the arena schedule, not to mention nobody
wants to sit out in the sun that long and watch nothing happening.
Sultan -- Just my way of saying hello to you in proper Doc Steele style. I mean if
you take anything seriously in Home Guard, you really should consider a new hobby.
By definition each warrior in this arena is under developed, untrained, under
skilled, or just plain bad. I would think that since you worry so little about
winning in other AD arenas, that particularly in Home Guard you would take your
medicine like a man. Does it really matter who is the big frog on a little lily pad?
Well, I guess it matters to me, but I'm an ultra competitive freak after all. Enjoy.

appreciate a manager who does something to make an arena I play in a better place,

A note to everyone regarding manager names and manager lists -- If you're running a
team incognito, all you have to do is let me know and I won't put your name on any
manager lists. It has seemed though, that more people want their names listed, even
if they do not announce themselves, than the other way around. Also, I do maintain

ANNOUNCING THE RETURN OF STORMCROWE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The last Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse was one of the closest and most exciting
contests ever held in Alastari. Such an epic demands a sequel. Therefore, Master
Darque and Jack Wolfspider are pleased to announce the return of the Stormcrowe
Slaughterhouse.
Where? Stormcrowe DM 45 (slow). When? The Slaughterhouse returns on Turn 207,
due August 19. How can you get into the action? Bring a team (one per entrant
please) to arena 45 and announce your intention to join the contest in the Personals.
Rules: This time around the rules are very simple. Each warrior win against a
higher rated opponent (one or more points higher in the ratings) brings you 10
points, against even rated opponent 7 points, lower rated 5 points. Wins against
NPCs or by a warrior who downchallenges are worth 0 points. Points are doubled for
kills. All warriors in the arena whether participating in the Slaughterhouse or not
are fair game. Points are totaled weekly, and the contestant whose team has racked
up the most points at the end of 10 turns is declared Slaughterhouse Champion.
Prizes: To be announced; we're still talking with RSI about it. Figure it will
be something pretty good. But hey, who needs prizes when the honor of being
Slaughterhouse Champion awaits!
