Fizban looked from one to another of his companions, shook his head slightly,
and sighed. Maybe it was a sign of his age, but he really didn't like the idea of
getting completely lost. At least here, there was the illusion that by retracing
their steps, they could find the Gate they'd come through and return to the Isle.
Rodan leaned closer to him. "It will be okay," the blind gladiator murmured.
"I can retrace a long route as easily as a short one. And it is better to do
something, even something wrong, than to do nothing."

The carriage moved through the streets slowly, as though the driver was feeling
his way in the fog. The fog wasn't heavy enough to justify that kind of groping
progress, but Shylock kept quiet. No point in berating the driver. Besides, the
Lord Protector was also making full use of the chance to stare around. So was
Clemenda, he noted, well, that was okay. He didn't normally like people around him
to be TOO alert, but in this peculiar situation, no telling what might be significant
and who might notice it first.
The temple to Somebody Who Wasn't Mantor vanished behind them. Shylock counted
turns and blocks and finally set his teeth against possible disaster and looked
toward where the arena should have been. Hmm. Not the same structure, but there
were points of similarity.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Zontani Sharp-Eyes has been in deep con caves, was this at Gencon? No, wait,
that hasn't happened yet. Besides, do they hold their con in caves? He was hanging
out with spies, too--nasty fellows, spies. Not like us friendly Isle spy reporters.
They'd stab you in the back as soon as look at you. I don't hold with things like
that. Better to stab somebody in the front, so he can see what you're up to. Nobody
likes to be taken by surprise.
Speaking of being taken by surprise, Royal Flush was avoiding You Feel That! so
as not to be taken by surprise. Sounds like good planning to me.
Ours Rouge got the most challenges. Are red bearskins in this summer? I'd
expect 'em to be hot.
And now, to hone a few years while simultaneously giving you the short version
of today's fights. There were forty-one of them (too many, in this heat), and
twenty-two were challenge matches, though not for the title. Nobody wants any part
of Real Beer, apparently, which is odd, considering.
GWYN AP NUDD (41-1210) (15-2-0,47) of CAER SIDHE fought LUNA TYCK (33-5761) (27-
27-1,55) of DRAKE'S PETTING ZOO. GWYN AP NUDD viciously subdued LUNA TYCK in a crowd
pleasing 7 minute brutal melee. This was our second-longest fight, and in this heat,
you'd better BELIEVE seven minutes was brutal.
LYTA ALEXANDER (65-5021) (8-4-0,28) of AND SO IT BEGINS fought ANGAR (10-4933)
(15-14-1,56) of WAR HAWKS. LYTA ALEXANDER overpowered ANGAR in a 1 minute one-sided
brawl. Eight-four? One way or another, this Lyta has had a successful tourney
career. Watch out for her.
ISAWA TADAKA (7-5093) (17-4-0,55) of CALL TO THUNDER fought SKI MASK (58-5869)
(25-45-0,56) of CIRQUE DU MASQUES. ISAWA TADAKA subdued SKI MASK in an action packed
1 minute bloody conflict. Another mammal makes his opinion known, and shortly the
Duck will speak in rebuttal. Speaking is his main talent; at least, it sure isn't
fighting.
PERFECT TEN (47-4218) (20-17-1,57) of ROYAL FLUSH fought AVARICIOUS AVON (63-
2388) (17-15-0,35) of TOMATO ENFORCER. PERFECT TEN won victory over AVARICIOUS AVON
in a 3 minute struggle. It would appear that perfection beats avarice hands down.
Of course, getting avarice to take its hands out of your pockets in order to put 'em
down can be a trick.
MEN IN BLACK (49-3157) (39-89-1,51) of RPG'S fought NO CHASER (33-6490) (25-17-
0,75) of JOYS OF BOOZE. MEN IN BLACK subdued NO CHASER in a 2 minute duel. Men
spent the first half of the fight chasing No, which was amusing. By the way, what
ARE the joys of booze? I know I drink a lot, but I'm a special case, being dead.
Why do YOU drink a lot, eh? Inquiring Minds want to know.
OSCAR (50-3153) (24-5-0,85) of OPEN SESAME fought BABOO (74-2711) (39-87-0,72)
of WILD AMINALS. OSCAR beat BABOO in a 4 minute fight. This is a fish and an ape,
right? What are we, a damned zoo?
AVALANCHE (75-2213) (12-3-1,40) of FORCE OF NATURE fought NEVERMORE (1-5260)
(16-18-2,84) of LAB EXPERIMENTS. AVALANCHE handily defeated NEVERMORE in an action
packed 1 minute mismatched match. And knocked him right off his crevase or whatever.
TSUNAMI (75-2214) (15-2-1,80) of FORCE OF NATURE fought CUBA (26-3917) (17-7-
0,68) of HERE TO PHOENIX. TSUNAMI won victory over CUBA in a 2 minute bout.
Definitely a sight to see, as the whole island was inundated quick as a whisker. A
fast whisker, not one of those lazy old whiskers that codgers have.
MOD COD (55-2638) (37-67-1,69) of RHYME TYME fought SULTAN (10-4516) (22-8-0,72)
of SIR AGLIO. MOD COD was demolished by SULTAN in a popular 1 minute one-sided duel.
With lemon sauce, and a little black pepper. Not bad.
LETHE (9-4782) (23-14-2,69) of BLUE MOON fought TUTANKHAMUN (71-3357) (13-7-
0,41) of CARTOUCHE. LETHE was demolished by TUTANKHAMUN in a 1 minute mismatched
match. So much for Lethe's winning streak.
DELICE THE RED (56-3401) (36-40-1,137) of BAD APPLES fought HOT HAZEL (98-608)
(15-20-4,149) of JUNKYARD WARS. DELICE THE RED was devastated by HOT HAZEL in a
popular 1 minute uneven bout. Not only was Hazel hot, by the time the fight was over
and the two women were done ripping each other's clothes, the whole audience was hot.
JACK SPRAT (47-2954) (43-50-4,122) of ROYAL FLUSH fought PARADISE PARROT (71-
1735) (25-25-0,126) of EDGE OF EXTINCTION. JACK SPRAT was defeated by PARADISE
PARROT in an exciting 2 minute brutal struggle. I've never cared for parrots. They
always seem to me to be mocking birds.
TALOS (31-2069) (39-16-0,140) of THE STORMGUARDS fought KHARN (51-2997) (33-33-
4,108) of COLD STEEL. TALOS subdued KHARN in an action packed 1 minute contest. No
wonder to it, in this weather, it's about impossible to keep your steel cold.
SPAZZ (33-6207) (31-23-0,141) of SNOTZI'S II fought JUGGLER (2-4965) (22-9-
0,103) of HARLEQUINS. SPAZZ overpowered JUGGLER in a popular 2 minute gruesome one-
sided bout. The really gruesome part was when Spazz, stumbling around as is his way,
crashed into the Juggler and things started dropping. It rained oranges, eggs that
should have been boiled and weren't, and bowling balls.
QRAPPY (10-4761) (28-44-1,176) of QUBIT fought HALLIE O'DENE (58-6018) (37-52-
0,134) of CIRQUE DU MASQUES. QRAPPY was overpowered by HALLIE O'DENE in a 2 minute
gory one-sided match. Do you get tired of your prophetic name, sometimes, Qrappy?
CRUSADER LORD (31-3946) (32-18-3,172) of THE STORMGUARDS fought MASHER (60-4553)
(29-31-3,136) of JOKA MASHER!. CRUSADER LORD was overpowered by MASHER in an action
packed 1 minute uneven fight. With a mash and smash and a splat, more or less.
Amazing how much action you can pack into a single minute, isn't it?
BLACK RHINO (71-1834) (34-20-1,188) of EDGE OF EXTINCTION fought SIR CUITOUS
(10-4514) (34-19-0,173) of SIR AGLIO. BLACK RHINO was overcome by SIR CUITOUS in an
exciting 2 minute duel. Should we even allow endangered species into the arena?
Isn't this some kind of ecological hazard?
ROLEX WATCH (32-3732) (36-28-0,181) of LUST MUPPETS fought STEVE MCQUEEN (47-
3908) (28-29-1,158) of ROYAL FLUSH. ROLEX WATCH viciously subdued STEVE MCQUEEN in
an action packed 2 minute brutal bout. Some people believe in keeping their lust
restrained, after all.

STOP THINKING TOGS!!!!! It's here. Well, almost here anyway. We're looking at
a start date of the first turn in Aradi (DM 60) following the Fall Mail-In. This
should give everyone sufficient time to study the new ultra-improved T#%S IV rules
and prep accordingly. So without further ado, here is your handy-dandy guide to
winning your very own Golden Scrod (and some other very cool prizes to be announced
officially before the start of the tourney that must not be named):
1. Each T#%S team consists of two managers. After the tourney starts, there will be
no switching partners whatsoever, so choose your partners wisely. T#%S IV will
last for 13 turns, so pick a partner you can stand for 6 months or so. The only
team I know of so far is last TOGS winners: Ganolus Oakleaf/Hombre of Blood
Related/Thieves Guild. Hey, this is fun!
2. The T#%S entry fee is 2 team setups per manager. This means 4 setups per T#%S
team. This entry fee is required before the start of the tourney with no
exceptions being made. This is to ensure that nobody gets screwed if a team or
manager decides to back out early. To pay the entry fee either:
a) send $10 cash/check/money order/ or whatever to me personally at:

b) get RSI to send me 2 team setup gift certificates. Sorry, no credit cards and
no old teams you have lying around will be accepted.
3. T#%S point system:
10 points for winning on your up-challenge against another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on your even challenge of another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on another T#%S warriors challenge.
7 points for winning a random matchup against another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning on your down-challenge of another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning a random matchup against a non-T#%S warrior. Do not fight
your team mate, you will not get any points. Also, you will not get any points
if you challenge or get challenged by a non-T#%S team, so use your avoids
wisely if you think someone is out to get you.
10 points for being the Duelmaster. This is in addition to all points listed
above and will begin turn 1, so prep accordingly.
5 points for every spotlight written by any team member, 1 per manager per turn.
The minimum length of a spotlight to receive points is 1/2 column in the
newsletter (that's 31 lines-each line 85 characters across) and I will be
completely firm on this. In addition to the length criteria, spotlights will
not be given points if they are in any way plagiarized or if they are not
Duelmasters or fantasy related. I will be the sole judge of this. If you're
unsure if I will judge something to be Duelmasters or fantasy related, then
e-mail me before you write the spotlight and ask me. I reserve the right to
take points away from a spotlight after they are given if I judge at a later
time that the spotlight has been plagiarized.
-5 points per manager per turn every time a manager does not at least write one
personal ad.
-5 points for being the team that avoided the most.
If you participated in TOGS III, you'll notice some slight changes in the points
structure. The main things are points for random match ups against non T#%S
warriors, bonus points for being the Duelmaster, new spotlight criteria, and no
points given for being the most avoided team.
4. I already mentioned this, but T#%S IV will start the first turn in arena 60 after
the Fall Mail-In runs and it will last for 13 turns. There will not be a
Survivor format this time around, meaning no eliminations. I will still be doing
the multipliers at the end, however. This means that all points accumulated by a
team on turns 10 and 11 will be multiplied by 1.5 and all points accumulated by
each team on turns 12 and 13 will be multiplied by 2.
5. Prizes are yet to be determined, but I'll tell you what I know. There will be
prizes given out each turn to whichever team scores the most combined points on a
given turn. Tie breakers will go to the team with the most wins on that turn and
then to the team with most overall points. I have asked RSI for the same prizes
as last TOGS which were transferring any warrior to arena 60 and renaming Aradi
for approximately 6 months, but we'll see what they come back with. I haven't
decided how to split the prizes up, partly because I don't know how many teams
will be entering yet, but I do know the prizes will be split among the top 3
teams at the end. I will announce the exact breakdown of everything when I know
more.
6. And just like TOGS III, Death Stud and I will be the sole arbiters of any dispute
that may arise. Whine all you like, but as Nuln told you last time, that's how
it is.
7. M & RR Clause (go ahead, read between the capitals): I reserve the right to
disallow entry to this tourney if you have a previous history of being a big fat
mouth about everything.

and then posting them in the newsletters as I receive entry fees. Please feel free
