REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Ho! Also, So! What is this, Old Home Week? I like it! Forty-two fights
today, and only one of them involved a standby. To what do we owe this unusual
turnout? The upcoming Tourney? A sudden rush of the Sporting Fever? Whatever it
is, I like it. Keep this up.
Forty-two fights, but alas, only nine challenge matches. I guess you just
didn't know who'd be here and who'd sleep in, hmm? Whatever. No deaths. Too bad.
This is the season for deaths. More the merrier.
Lethal Heritage was avoided by The Greenhouse. Oh yeah? You trying to tell me
that they aren't growing anything poisonous in that Greenhouse?
Prowess got the most challenges. No surprise there. Too many men want to
verify the reality of that prow.
Because the printers are tapping their feet and looking impatient, and because
forty-two fights are too many to mention individually, I'll just hit some high spots
here.
For instance: CROOKED HOOF (56-3493) (32-22-0,73) of REDHORSE fought MEAN
SPIRIT (101-5) (0-0-0,70) of the Local Louts 101. CROOKED HOOF was devastated by
MEAN SPIRIT in a 1 minute mismatched match. Our only fight involving a standby, and
by golly, the standby won!
KENNY (78-1940) (14-10-0,34) of LETHAL HERITAGE fought SKI MASK (58-5869) (47-
81-0,58) of CIRQUE DU MASQUES. KENNY was handily defeated by SKI MASK in a 1 minute
mismatched match. The Duck goes down again. How we love it.
ACE BAILEY (47-4948) (15-19-0,67) of ROYAL FLUSH fought WALKER (1-6127) (26-18-
1,66) of WIND STORM. ACE BAILEY was savagely defeated by WALKER in an action packed
5 minute gory bout. This may be our longest fight. I'm not sure, because I nodded
off at one point. But it's a long one, anyway.
PERFECT TEN (47-4218) (29-23-1,172) of ROYAL FLUSH fought BOB THE RUSSIAN (11-
2865) (28-29-2,124) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. PERFECT TEN beat BOB THE RUSSIAN in a 2
minute fight. Bob takes exercise. Or maybe not, as the case might be.
The challenge matches:
SWALLOWTAIL (1-7387) (23-16-2,73) of MANNEQUIN'S BEST challenged JOHN LONGSHORE
(11-4197) (26-37-0,85) of TUFT TUGGERS. Up 12. SWALLOWTAIL slimly won victory over
JOHN LONGSHORE in a 10 minute Challenge duel. Okay, this one was longer.
KASENKO (73-4445) (21-11-2,82) of PERFECTION QUEST II challenged GAR & BRILL
(38-4252) (31-58-0,84) of JUST BECAUSE. Up 2. KASENKO vanquished GAR & BRILL in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge duel. And why not? Gar & Brill is a LONG way from
perfect, after all.
SUGARBEET (7-5219) (27-27-1,67) of SUGAR AND SPICE challenged PROWESS (2-5155)
(23-29-0,61) of KNOT WHOLE. Down 6. SUGARBEET savagely defeated PROWESS in an
action packed 5 minute Challenge melee. Heck, another fairly long one. What's the
deal? It's too cold for us in the stands to sit through all these monsters.
MONKEY WRENCH (25-4442) (13-5-0,43) of PRIMATES-R-US challenged LIL E. TEE (15-
4608) (15-11-1,51) of TRIPLE CROWN. Up 8. MONKEY WRENCH was overpowered by LIL E.
TEE in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. I can't decide whether to say that
Monkey saw, Monkey did, or make some comment about how wrenching that was.
BRIARTHORN (12-5671) (20-22-1,96) of DARKMOON challenged ZLATINA ANGUELOVA (11-
4856) (29-29-1,97) of TUFT TUGGERS. Up 1. BRIARTHORN lost to ZLATINA ANGUELOVA in a
2 minute bloody Challenge fight. Tug on those tufts, girl!
EVIL ELMO (99-1222) (25-13-4,143) of TWISTED SESAME challenged BUCK (1-2291)
(44-99-0,109) of MOSSRUNNERS. Down lots. Um, 34 points. But, up 105 regular arena
fights, so it isn't as uneven as all that. EVIL ELMO overpowered BUCK in a 2 minute
bloody mismatched Challenge match.
KERMORVAN (1-3116) (23-14-0,102) of LAB EXPERIMENTS challenged KHEMRA (78-72)
(22-12-0,119) of LETHAL HERITAGE. Up 17. KERMORVAN vanquished KHEMRA in a 2 minute
gory mismatched Challenge brawl. Makes you wonder what exactly was going ON in that
lab, doesn't it?
CIARAN (1-7176) (27-19-1,172) of MANNEQUIN'S BEST challenged ZATHRUS (1-5858)
(31-32-1,178) of WIND STORM. Up 6. CIARAN vanquished ZATHRUS in an exciting 1
minute gory uneven Challenge battle. Ciaran does this kind of thing often. Winning.
FIENDISH GLEE (46-1553) (26-17-5,176) of CLEVER LINGO challenged CADDY JACKKNIFE
(11-4288) (38-18-1,203) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. Up 27. FIENDISH GLEE viciously subdued
CADDY JACKKNIFE in a 2 minute bloody Challenge fight. Cackling the whole time.
And for the title: HARV (82-20046) (23-7-1,285) of 4-LETTER NAMES fought BONGO
(25-2600) (26-18-0,200) of VORTEX. HARV overpowered BONGO in a popular 1 minute one-
sided Title melee. How about a column, Harv?

HAMMER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Be it known from the highest mountains to the darkest alleys of Alastari that
the veteran manager known far and wide as Hammer has now officially retired from
sponsoring contests as of September 15, 2005.
What a long time ago was a fun motivated activity to help promote our common
DM/D2 gaming interest in an effort to promote the growth and competitiveness of
selected arenas has become a far from fun experience.
In other words Hammer has had it!
The combination of real life situations interfering with the time needed to
effectively sponsor a contest, plus the attitudes expressed during such sponsorship
interference has led to Hammer closing his personal coin coffers and retiring from
his planned sponsorship of any future contests.
There are others in our close knit gaming community who are well able to step up
to the plate and continue sponsoring contests that make the basic game a fun
experience for all those who choose to compete and interact in such future endeavors.
Hammer thanks all managers both active and inactive who helped to make the
Hammer sponsored contests a historical and entertaining experience well worth the
time, effort and money spent over the past several years.
May the Cheers and the Jeers of future contests build upon the legacies of those
who have paved the way in years gone by to help make this game what it is today.
Hammer has no regrets for the part he has played in that history.
