REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Well! This is impressive, we had TWENTY-TWO fights today! And only three of
them involved standbys. Excellent, you'd think managers were taking us seriously
again. If it's only a pre-tourney effect and attendance will fall off sharply
afterward, don't tell me now, okay? I don't want to know in advance.
Sea Dogs was Most Avoided, probably by the Canophobic League, or maybe the Anti-
Sailors Club. Well, by the Party Animals, too. Odd, that, I would have expected the
Sea Dogs to be good at parties. Or maybe the Party Animals are mostly cats and don't
want dogs around. Who knows, eh? Well, actually, if I'm going to be a thorough-
going spy, maybe I should know. That's my April Fool's resolution, do more spying.
Just in case you wondered.
Out of eight gladiators who received challenges, Karatia got the most, which I
presume means at least one challenge didn't go through. Could've been a double-
challenge on Karatia, but that counts.
The fights:
PATCH (36-7297) (23-16-0,62) of SEA DOGS fought OWAIN HARLSON (35-3130) (34-54-
1,85) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. PATCH handily defeated OWAIN HARLSON in an exciting 1
minute one-sided contest. In keeping with my resolution to do more spying, or at
least tell more of what I have spied on already, I will disclose that Owain was not
practicing this past week, he was engaging in a cattle raid down toward Khalani.
Don't ask me why, because I don't know what he'd do with the cattle when he got 'em.
Sell the beasts, I suppose. After all, who wants a bunch of smelly old cows around?
PRISONER 0327 (82-40997) (18-17-2,58) of DUNGEON CELL 66 fought HUW AP HUW (35-
3030) (25-70-0,76) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. PRISONER 0327 overpowered HUW AP HUW in a 3
minute uneven fray. An informant in the arena cafeteria tells me that Huw has been
pining over the freshman, Heart Breaker. Give it up, Huw, it's doomed from the
start. She'll go on to higher things, and you'll be stuck here in Home Guard
forever.
BARBIE BENTON (71-2571) (23-7-0,77) of GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS fought JETSAM (1-8172)
(18-19-1,40) of SEA DOGS. BARBIE BENTON was overpowered by JETSAM in a 2 minute one-
sided duel. Rumors tell me that Jetsam is trying to give the lie to his name and
prove that he is NOT something to be cast overboard.
TRACI LORDS (71-2574) (23-11-0,80) of GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS fought ABBOTT (14-4131)
(19-13-2,38) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. TRACI LORDS devastated ABBOTT in a 1 minute one-
sided contest. If there's a reverse of siroche, Abbott was suffering from it. The
low altitude and "thick, soupy air" gets to these highlanders now and then.
PRISONER 0103 (82-33733) (33-61-0,121) of DUNGEON CELL 21 fought FAST-FINGERS
FRED (101-7) (0-0-0,110) of Tough, Exciting Standbys. PRISONER 0103 beat FAST-
FINGERS FRED in a crowd pleasing 1 minute fight. Is there, or is there not, any
truth in the rumor that Fred foisted (lovely word!) his pickpocketing crimes onto
this unfortunate Prisoner, leading to false arrest, conviction, and imprisonment?
PRISONER 0118 (82-33748) (23-59-0,133) of DUNGEON CELL 24 fought LORETTA (101-8)
(0-0-0,110) of Tough, Exciting Standbys. PRISONER 0118 luckily beat LORETTA in an
exciting 5 minute brutal match. Why did Loretta fight so hard when it must have been
clear from the first minute that 0118 had the edge? Rumor hints at a love triangle
here.
SHEWISH WHALER (18-9272) (30-15-1,124) of SEA DOGS fought SANDMAN (97-2610) (24-
12-4,130) of COLLUSION. SHEWISH WHALER devastated SANDMAN in a 2 minute gory
mismatched brawl. And no wonder, anyone who can deal with a Shewish whale won't
boggle at a mere gladiator. And why, come to think of it, is this colluder not in a
dungeon cell?
TAVIS CADFALSON (35-1419) (45-103-3,175) of CHILDREN OF LLYR fought HOCKEY DUCK
(39-937) (30-20-1,108) of DUCKS UNLIMITED. TAVIS CADFALSON was overcome by HOCKEY
DUCK in a 2 minute bout. Perhaps if there was a rematch that was not staged on a
floor of ice, things might be different. Or then again, maybe not, because it looks
to me like Tavis just doesn't have his heart in this stuff. Unless that was his
heart on the sands, and he doesn't have it in anything at the moment. It's kinda
hacked up and hard to be sure.

(43-374) (24-12-0,132) of GIRLS X3. MATH OP OWAIN won victory over MISTY JENKINS in
a crowd pleasing 4 minute bout. Yes, well, what can a man do when he's trapped in an
adventure which has just stepped onto the threshold of Really Nasty?
GAR & BRILL (38-4252) (72-108-0,155) of JUST BECAUSE fought MAKESHIFT ANCHOR (1-
7724) (35-45-0,133) of SEA DOGS. GAR & BRILL was outwaited by MAKESHIFT ANCHOR in a
popular 9 minute conflict. Nine minutes, you call that anything? Bah. Actually, I
cleaned up on that, because I bet on the Anchor to hold, while the bookies, fools
that they are, went with Gar and Brill's long-standing habit of standing long. Of
course, now I'll have to watch out for angry bookies, but what the heck, it's better
than being bored with life.
U.S.S. ARIZONA (34-2643) (30-21-1,156) of D-DAY SQUAD fought BALLAST (1-7727)
(33-45-0,157) of SEA DOGS. U.S.S. ARIZONA was savagely defeated by BALLAST in a
crowd pleasing 6 minute match. There's a weird logic in this one, but I'm not going
to explore it. Just thinking about sinking ships makes me queasy.
ROT TEN EGGS (47-3099) (41-40-0,161) of ROYAL FLUSH fought MISS TEAK (1-8015)
(32-28-1,167) of SEA DOGS. ROT TEN EGGS was demolished by MISS TEAK in a 2 minute
mismatched match. Which leads me to wonder about the possible truth in the rumor
that Miss Teak has no sense of smell, perhaps due to a blow to the face at some point
in her career. Care to comment, Miss T?
HEAD CHEESE (96-1920) (49-20-3,207) of WHY SELL THIS? fought ARENAMASTER AZEEM
(101-28) (0-0-0,200) of Tough, Exciting Standbys. HEAD CHEESE was savagely defeated
by ARENAMASTER AZEEM in a popular 5 minute melee. Thereby upholding the honor and
intimdation factor of arenamasters everywhere. Do not listen to the rumors that
Azeem actually intended to or DID eat head cheese. Not so. He sliced it thin and
threw it to his dog.

what Oh Ohlish has against the Prisoner.

someone's ears tied in knots. Quite a trick. But I'd think the cheese sauce would
make them to slippery to stay knotted.

3624) (22-12-1,47) of KIWI CONNECTION. Straight across. ZEBZAMBEZI was overpowered
by KARATIA in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. I'm sure there's some good
dirt, ah, surprising information on this one, but it seems to be written in chicken
scratches, and I don't read chicken. I'll have to get this translated and tell you
about it later.
PHONELESS CORD (54-2018) (26-17-0,94) of USELESS TOOLS challenged BILGE RAT (51-
5334) (26-5-1,99) of SEA DOGS. Up 5. PHONELESS CORD devastated BILGE RAT in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge duel. I always knew the Phoneless Cord was a strangler,
and this was an amazing illustration of that very thing: no words, just a lunge for
the throat. Scary!
ROWDY YOBBO (20-3429) (25-31-1,134) of SPARF! challenged CADAL (35-1370) (53-
105-4,148) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. Up 14. ROWDY YOBBO savagely defeated CADAL in an
exciting 4 minute bloody Challenge fight. Proof, if any was needed, of the crippling
effect of early training. Oh, yes, I have uncovered Cadal's secret! He and some of
his teammates had the misfortune to be thrown into the arena totally unsupervised,
going 1-1-1, no weapons, no armor, for nearly a year before they could get their
manager's attention! They lost a lot--every fight during that period, in fact, and
it seems to have become a habit. They're masters at losing.
CATFISH HUNTER (5-3315) (21-18-1,169) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged KISSYFUR (67-
2187) (30-20-1,173) of ALL-STAR NANA'S. Up 4. CATFISH HUNTER narrowly defeated
KISSYFUR in a crowd pleasing 3 minute Challenge duel. Does this mean that Kissyfur
is a cat, fish or otherwise? Because the Commission doesn't have him listed as
Aruaki. A mystery. I will set my spies to researching it.
