WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
The decorations had been hung up months ago. A large banner welcoming managers
and gladiators gathered dust as it hung from the ceiling. Balloons that were once
filled with helium were now on the ground, causing an occasional pop as managers
occasionally stepped upon them. There was even a little bit of mold on a few of the
cheese squares, but most of the managers (save for a few of the megas) didn't notice
and ate them anyway. After months of delays, the ADM Regional Tourney was finally
underway and most of the field were excitedly mingling in the managers' area right
next to the warrior locker room.
Near the entrance, Crip went over proper tournament procedures to Icelord and
Ragnarok. The Crysalis team had done the most team drill priors to the competition
and were easily the most prepared. In fact, their perfectly coordinated processional
as they entered the arena combined with their matching outfits caused many to wonder
if the other teams knew what they were getting into. (The rest just chalked them up
to be crazy slow managers)
The smaller, but more tourney-experienced Delarquan team carefully examined the
weapons that were shipped in for the tourney.
"I must say, I'm impressed with these Adantri weapons," noted The Muffin Man,
"They're almost as good as the Delarquan ones."
"Yeah, not bad." agreed TUM. "I can't remember the last time we did this
thorough of a weapon inspection. I mean everyone uses fists these days."
"Hey, check this weapon out!" cried The Muffin Man, "I don't think I've seen
this one before. Is it new?"
"Hmmmm." TUM looked closely at the staff-like weapon with a spiked metal ball
attached to the end of it. "I don't think I've seen this before. I wonder if one of
these regions are trying to import an illegal weapon?"
"It looks pretty deadly." nodded the Muffin Man. "Let's try it." The Muffin
Man swung the weapon half-way and whacked TUM on the shoulder with it.
"Ow!" cried TUM instinctively, before realizing, "Wait, I didn't feel that at
all."
"I hit enough you hard enough for you to feel it," said the Muffin Man
bewildered, "Maybe, it's a magic weapon!"
"Guys, this isn't a new magic weapon." Said One Arm Bandit, who walked over
after hearing the conversation, "This is a War Flail! We use these in Home Guard!"
"Oh yeah!" TUM slapped his forehead, "Now I remember these things! I think I
tried one around twenty years ago."
TUM and the Muffin Man weren't the only ones who were used to seeing uncommon
things. The Home Guard Team found themselves a popular photo op from fans who
weren't used to seeing so many Bashers in the same place before.
Within a few minutes a loud horn sounded, which the managers took to mean that
the fights were starting soon. They quickly yelled out last minute instructions and
went to watch the games in the managers' boxes.
The first fight was about to start and it was a big one. Bloodbath, the Tower
Guardian of Crysalis was set to face a dangerous Darkholm Wildcard in Reddi Whip.
Many bookies had Reddi Whip as a sleeper to win it all and most managers felt these
were probably the two best Wall of Steels in the tournament. Mun paced nervously as
the Bloodbath took the field. TUM was his usual calm self, as a Bloodgames Survivor,
Reddi Whip was used to fighting pressure-packed duels. The battle began and after an
action packed four minutes, Bloodbath pulled off a mild-upset over the Delarquan
warrior. Crip lead the Crysalis team in a frenetic paced but well-coordinated
Crysalis cheer.
The Mun was up again, as this time his second Cryaslis entrant, the Basher, Mad
Cat had an equally tough draw against the Andorian King's Sentinel, Death Fog. A
handful of boos from the Free Blades team rang out as Death Fog walked out as Death
Fog's home was Stormcrowe. The walk out by both warriors as an unfortunately quicker
than the fight itself as Death Fog made quick work of Mad Cat. Manager gave a salute
to Princess Samarra as Death Fog walked off in victory.
The Delarquan Aimed Blow Stylemaster Littlest Tyrant was up next against The
Andorian Total Parry Stylemaster Nay Palm. Marmaduke yelled encouraging words to his
seemingly overmatched warrior as they took the sands. The Andorian team watched
nervously as many felt Littlest Tyrant was their toughest challenge in a quest to win
their first ADM Regional Title. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't to be as Little
Tyrant methodically carved up Nay Palm, who looked at least happy to last to the
second minute.
Another Delarquan Contender, Harv, was quickly ushered onto the sands. Free
Blades had their first match up of the day sending out their Slasher Stylemaster,
Claudius. Caesar didn't seem very happy that his warrior drew Harv in the first
round. TUM began to look a little nervous too, with Reddi Whip losing, TUM did not
want to be sent home in the first round of the tournament. The fight turned out to
be surprisingly one-sided as Claudius didn't have the skills to hit Harv, whose
impressive win sent many bettors scrambling to put money on him.
A burst of cheers came from the Crysalis section as one of its big hopes, Hari-
Kari, the Aimed Blow Stylemaster, walked out onto the stands. Jolly's one warrior in
the field, Cooler, who qualified by being the Slashing Stylemaster of Darkholm came
out next. In the first major upset of the tourney, Cooler beat Hari-Kari. The
Delarquan Team (and other teams who were happy to see a top contender eliminated)
whooped it up while the Crysalis team was noticeably deflated.
Manager was up again, this time bringing out the Andorian Lunger stylemaster,
Dallas. Three Fisted Rat Boy, the Striking Stylemaster from Crysalis was his
opponent. Ragnarok knew his warrior was overmatched on paper, but coached his
warrior to go for the quick strike and win. After a short fight, Dallas was just too
much for the Rat Boy to handle. "Just wait until the Cowboys win the Superbowl!"
Manager shouted as Dallas won. No one had any idea what he was talking about, of
course.
After losing its last two matchups, the Crysalis section was noticeably
despondent as Boarish Yeltsin, the Crysalis Slasher Stylemaster, who was also managed
by team captain Crip came out. Alix, Zalgor's Total Parry stylemaster from Free
Blades came out on the other side. Zalgor had high hopes for Alix to do some damage,
while Crip was determined to keep Crysalis from having a bad day. In the end,
Boarish just had too much attack as he put down Alix in a closeley contested battle.
The Crysalis team jumped up and started cheering once again.
Crysalis didn't have much time to celebrate however, because its Total Parry
Styelmaster, Ravashing Redbud was up next. The audience groaned when the former
Andorian Tower Sentinel and Total Parry Vision came out, led by up-and-coming mega-
manager Kellumbo. Upon seeing the match-ups of Total Parries, one of whom was
managed by the Consortium (Lady Fern), many in the audience immediately decided to
take bathroom breaks and/or hit the concession stands. Some others looked like they
were ready to take a nap. The handful of audience members who decided to stay for
the fight were surprised when Vision came out swinging and won in a mere four
minutes.
The Free Blades wildcard, Enlightened Being was next up. Aragorn, another up-
and-coming Free Blade manager looked on anxiously. Not looking on anxiously, was A-
Sop, who was chatting with Debby Tonte up on the arena roof as she decided to work on
her tan. Her warrior, Work in Progress, also seemed distracted. Perhaps not
surprisingly, Enlightened Being won fairly easily, giving the Delarquan team their
second loss of the day.
It was only after a fourth of the fights had already been completed that the
Home Guard team had its first fight. Its Bashing Stylemaster Hortator managed by One
Arm Bandit was up against the Crysalis Parry-Riposte Stylemaster managed by Ragnarok.
The Home Guard crowd cheered as Hortator pulled a surprisingly lopsided win.
(Security stood close by to the Home Guard team to make sure no body parts were
exposed while they cheered)
The Muffin Man was in action again, as his warrior, He Hate Me, walked out. The
Home Guard team, embolded by their Hortator victory, taunted He Hate Me as their
Parry-Strike stylemaster, Sandman stepped out onto the sands. Mannequin looked a bit
more serious however as he realized what a difficult match up it was for him. He
Hate Me showed why he was one of the favorites to win it all as he impressively beat
Sandman.
One of Free Blade's best hopes was up next. Team Captain the Dark One, proudly
watched as Defiance confidently walked out onto the sands. His opponent, Vajra
Valmejar wore the crest of Armalias Skyhawk. The Free Blades team, knowing that most
of the favorites were winning, watched anxiously. They wouldn't have to worry as
Defiance made quick work of Vajra.
Aragorn was up again, this time the Free Blade Wall of Steel stylemaster known
as Gossamer, met Crysalis Wildcard Stigma of Stupid. It was Slugbait's first fight
of the day, but Slugbait had already had a busy day with his volunteering in the
infirmary. In an action packed fight, Gossamer pulled out the win, making Aragorn
one of the few managers to go 2-0 on the day thus far.
Home Guard was up again. This time, its Striking Stylemaster Tarcil, managed by
Visionist, was up against Andorian Parry-Riposte Stylemaster, Sarina. Sarina's
manager, Jorja, didn't usually do tournament events, but looked at home here. In the
end, Sarina beat Tarcil in a favorable style match up for her.
A disembodied pair of Green Eyes suddenly appeared from the sky. It was Free
Blade manager, Emerald Orbs, and her warrior, the Bashing stylemaster Kookaburra,
walked out onto the stands. Her opponent was Blue Velvet, a Purple People
Eater/Consortium Wall of Steel. Purple People Eater was determined to not let the
specialty style of the Consortium, the Wall of Steel, fall in the first round. In a
tight battle, Blue Velvet was the winner. The Consortium filled half of the
managers' box for the Crysalis team and it looked like they would be around for the
next round. Thankfully, the creepy Green Eyes disappeared from the sky.
One of the Free Blade Wildcards, Himey the Pimp, was next. His veteran manager,
Roadkill was clearly excited to be a part of the Free Blade team. Jackson, another
Andorian Wildcard, was his opponent. Kellumbo had made no secret of Jackson's
potential to one day be one of the best warriors in the game. Jackson showed her
early promise as she beat Himey in a couple of minutes.
Another Andorian Wildard, Reaper's Shadow out of Time, was next. The Delarquan
Bashing Stylemaster, Men Working was next. A-Sop turned the page of her book as she
tanned on the arena roof. Reaper showed that he wasn't making a quick exit as Shadow
out of Time scored a relatively easy win. The Andorian Team was having a good day
thus far.
One of the top Free Blade warriors, Nightcap was up next. More than a decade
ago, She Puppy's warriors used to be some of the most feared. The managers of Free
Blades knew that under-estimating one of her warriors would usually result in an
embarrassing loss. Marmaduke cursed his match up luck as he trotted out Dough
Bermin, the Bashing Stylemaster. The bad day for Bashers continued as Nightcap
scored a relatively easy win.
Representing Home Guard was Snotman (the warrior). Many managers in the field
were glad Mannequin didn't have a Parry-Riposte bad enough to qualify for Home Guard
as he was stuck with a Parry-Strike here. His opponent was Nixie Seasprite, the
Andorian Wall of Steel Styelmaster. The warriors of Home Guard whooped it up once
again as Snotman scored a win over Nixie Seasprite.
Looking nervously excited was Wretch, as his Crysalis Wildcard Black Flag made
his tournament debut. His opponent was managed by Roadkill, who sent the Free Blade
Striking stylemaster Sissy Chrissy out after him. In an exciting bout, Black Flag
beat Sissy Chrissy, keeping Wretch's tournament hopes alive and a much needed win for
Crysalis.
Continuing to draw out from its deep pool of managers, the Crysalis's team
Parry-Strike Stylemaster, Unzoe the Shaman, came out managed by The Ice Lord. His
opponent was Home Guard's Parry-Lunger stylemaster, Tyre. Both warriors were fairly
young and just hoping to advance as far as possible. In a back and forth fight, Tyre
beat Unzoe.
Shewish Whaler, One Arm Bandit's Lunger, was one of the few warriors from Home
Guard that some thought could do well. Conversely, no one had any hopes for Jeo the
Songsmith, the Free Blade Parry-Riposte Stylemaster who was 46-95 in the arena. The
Free Blade team cringed as Shewish Whaler beat up on Jeo in one of the few fights
where a Home Guard warrior was the favorite.
Up next was the Andorian, Phlash Phludd, managed by Stormlord, who was one of
the more unknown managers in the tournament. Crysalis countered with Nomad and
Thelonius. While both of these young managers were eager to prove they belonged in
the tournament, it was Phlash Pludd who won, making him another Parry-Strike to
advance.
Golderie, the PL stylemaster, managed by Jorja was up next. Her opponent was
the a Home Guard Wildcard, Heart Breaker, managed by Deep Thought. While the
Andorian team was noticeably excited at the prospect of Jorja going 2-0, it was the
less experienced who Heart Breaker pulled off another upset for the Home Guard team.
Nomad was up again, this time bringing the Crysalis Parry-Lunge warrior, Baron
Stonewall. Another Deep Thought warrior and Home Guard Wildcard, Gut Buster, opposed
him. After an exciting four minutes, Baron Stonewall wins it, sending another
Crysalis warrior into the next round.
The last fight of the day was former Captain of the Guard, Copernicus, going up
against the Parry-Strike stylemaster Veloxi, managed by Zalgor P. Home Guard was
visiting excited at match up of one of it's best warriors going up against the
younger Veloxi, but it was Veloxi who pulled off the upset, ending what was a pretty
respectable day for the Guard.
After the First Round, The Scoreboard Read:
Andorak: 7-5 (0.583)
Darkholm: 4-3 (0.571)
Free Blades: 6-6 (0.500)
Home Guard: 5-5 (0.500)

It was still anyone's game.

THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Captain of the Guard
Well, I was hoping to go out with a great tournament victory. But instead I went 1-3
in the Freshman tourney that I had been preparing for over the past year. Still,
defending the Home Guard throne is nothing to sneeze at. For as long as I hold onto
it, I will continue to fight here, but once my term as Captain of the Guard comes to
an end, I'm off to retirement.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
There isn't a lot to say here toady, even Novgorodny Vir couldn't find much. I
guess everybody's either home recovering from the fall tourney or off taking part in
the regional tourney.
Shewish Whaler probably got the biggest point gain, 34 points. Good for him.
For the rest, we had twenty fights involving two standbys. No challenges, no avoids.
One fight worthy of note: 16) MODEL PRISONER (42-4489) (19-2-2,100) of DUNGEON CELL
fought IRON-PLATED IRV (101-10) (0-0-0,150) of Random Dudes. MODEL PRISONER was
killed by IRON-PLATED IRV in an exciting 2 minute bout. To die by the hand of a
standby is not something one boasts about, but still, it is a distinction of a sort.
And for the title: MAKESHIFT ANCHOR (1-7724) (46-50-0,244) of SEA DOGS fought
SANDMAN (97-2610) (34-17-4,181) of COLLUSION. MAKESHIFT ANCHOR slimly won victory
over SANDMAN in a 9 minute Title fight. Our congratulations to Makeshift Anchor,
long may you hold.
