WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
Winning was not new to the Final 4 managers of the ADM Regional Tournament.
TUM, Manager, Detective Kellumbo and The Muffin Man were four of the game's most
decorated managers in history. But an ADM Regional Tournament Championship was the
one thing that none of the four had yet won. And with good reason, this was the
first ADM Regional Tournament that had been held in more than 17 years. Designed to
promote activity within the ADM Regionals, the results had mixed success. Around
thirty managers took part in the event. Some arenas, like Crysalis and Free Blades
found competition tough for various spots on the team. Other arenas, like the
Darkholm team, took a more laissez faire approach and let their elite warriors rise
to the top.
In the end, things went somewhat to form. The Crysalis Team, playing in their
first regional tournament ever, were a bit unlucky. A couple of their top warriors
went down early, resulting in their team sinking slowly to the bottom. Still, it
wasn't all bad news. Warriors like Bloodbath proved he was one of the best warriors
in the tourney by knocking out two contenders. Baron Stonewall defied all odds and
advanced further than Nomad could have hoped for. There was little doubt that if the
Regional Tournaments were ever brought back, Crysalis would improve on its
performance and learn from their success.
The Home Guard team did better than many people thought they would. They proved
that at the middle and bottom, they were as good as the rest of the arenas with a
.500 performance in the first round. The lack of upper level warriors was ultimately
their downfall, but Shewish Whaler and Snotman showed that they had potential. It
was definitely a possiblity that One Arm Bandit could take Whaler or Snotman to
another team and try to capture a Regional Crown with them one day.
The Free Blades team showed they had depth and a lot of young talent. After
the second round, they had taken the lead by having the most warriors left in the
competition. Their lack of anyone in the Final 4 was simply a matter of age and not
talent. There was little doubt that the likes of Defiance, Gossamer, and Natas were
capable of winning it all if only the tourney were being held in six months later.
The Andorak team showed they had young talent as well. The Andorians took an
early lead by winning the most fights in the first round, and then faltered a bit in
the middle. Still, their top two stars performed as well as they had hoped and they
found themselves with half of the Final 4 entrants.
The Darkholm team simply did what everyone thought they would do--win. Another
team with two big stars (Littlest Tyrant and Harv), the Darkholm team actually showed
that they were more than that punch as their Slasher, Cooler served as a phenomenal
wingman. In the end, Littlest Tyrant and Harv did make the Final 4, setting up a big
showdown with their long-time rival, Andorak.
The betting was fairly lopsided. Harv seemed to be the favorite to win, with
Littlest Tyrant slightly behind him. Money was shown being wagered in the following
percentages:
Finals Championship
--------- --------------
Death Fog 30% 30%
Harv 70% 50%
Littlest Tyrant 80% 20%
Vision 20% 0%
The whole arena (along with the rest of Ghea, who was watching in magical
crystals) went silent as the first warrior walked out. It was Death Fog, Manager's
Aimed Blow. Death Fog had survived two close scares from Bloodbath and Cooler and
was thought to be a bit more worn down than his opponent, Harv, who had yet to be hit
or even hurt during the competition.
Harv walked out shortly after and it was apparent that both warriors had chosen
to fight with Leather Armor with Leather Helms, the most popular choice of upper-
level defensive-based warriors. Death Fog fought with a Shortspear, Harv fought
bare-handed.
Immediately Death Fog leaped forward with his Short Spear and opened with crit,
trying to end the fight early. Harv however, easily dodged the attack and responded
with a light tap to Death Fog's left hip. The two warriors danced back and forth
until the end of the first minute where Harv struck a brutal punch to Death Fog's
chest. Harv continued to press his attack in the second minute, continuing the
barrage of punches and kicks, many of which connected to Death Fog's head. Death Fog
riposted well with each miss of Harv's, even though he could not penetrate the
defense of Harv's. As Harv moved in for the finishing blow, Death Fog stuck his
short spear out right onto Harv's fist, deflecting the parry. The small drops of
blood on Harv's hand only seemed to enrage him however, as he then threw a
devastating piston-like punch which knocked Death Fog out for good. The Darkholm
contingent cheered wildly as the Andorians looked demoralized as they were now down
to their final warrior.
After an exhausting first match, there was a lot on the line in the second
fight. The Darkholm team could lock up the championship in the finals-making it an
all-Delarquan affair. Vision walked out first, decked out in his Plate Armor and
Full Helm. Vision had survived a tough fight against Gossamer in the last round,
although fortunately for him Total Parries were used to taking a lot of punishment
and quickly recovering. Littlest Tyrant's toughest match up had come against another
Total Parry, Black Flag, in Round 2, but he was well rested, having defeated the
hapless Captured Pirate Captain in the Quarter-finals. Littlest Tyrant came out not
wearing any armor, with an open hand and a Dagger Backup--the same outfit that won
him the last Eligibles tournament.
Littlest Tyrant immediately turned into a dangerous whirlwind of fury, using both his
dagger and fist to unleash a series of well-coordinated and devastating attacks.
Vision, however was no slouch. He cleverly used his shields to parry Tyrant's fist
and his heavy armor minimized the damage done by the Tyrant's dagger. Slowly but
surely, Vision managed to wear Littlest Tyrant out, both with able parries and by
tiring Littlest Tyrant out. Littlest Tyrant's small size and lack of damage doing
turned out to be his downfall as he dropped to the sand in five minutes, allowing
Vision to finish him off and keep his team alive heading into the finals.
The air stirred with excitement at the upset of the last round. It was well-
known Detective Kellumbo was red hot, his dominating Initiates performance at the
last tournament had never been done in the history of Dueling. TUM however, was a
wily veteran who understood the intricacies of gladitorial combat and one of the few
who had won at all levels of the game. The arena crackled with excitement during
intermission, and the audience gave a standing applause to both warriors as they came
out for the final contest.
Vision once again wore his Plate Armor and Full Helm. His weapons of choice
were his Shortsword and Large Shield. Harv once again walked out in a Leather suit
and no weapons. The battle began and Vision immediately took a defensive position.
Harv began the assault, pummeling away with punches and kicks. Vision calmly parried
most of the blows, although Harv's strength would occasionally cause him to bash
through the parries. After a few minutes, Vision was clearly bleeding and Harv's
hands and reds were bruised and swollen. Still, Harv continued his crushing assault,
all the while damaging his hands and feet on Vision's Shield. For a moment it looked
like the battle could go either way, but when Harv suddenly dropped to the ground in
pain after six minutes, Vision knew that victory belonged to him.
The audience erupted as Vision scored another upset and done the unthinkable--
won the ADM Regional. Detective Kellumbo ran out and hugged his warrior. Manager,
Marma Duke, Reaper, Stormlord, and Armalias followed him out onto the sands and
celebrated their win. Also celebrating were the bookies, who had cleaned up in the
last round, as no one picked Vision to win. Fireworks were set off and a big banner
unfurled overhead, congratulating Andorak on its first ever Regional Tournament
victory. The party lasted well into the night.

and I was lucky to have won it.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Well, Anchor, luck is part of being a winning gladiator. And you seem to have
plenty of it. Count it a blessing.
On to the events of the day:
We're going to make this quick and short, so as not to crowd the final rounds of
the regional tourney, reported here.
We had eighteen fights, involving two standbys and no deaths. This is good. Or
at least not bad. Only one challenge, this is not good. Sea Dogs was most avoided
(no surprise there) by Ducks Unlimited. Huw ap How got the most (only) challenges.
Leaving the random matches to possibly undeserved oblivion:
HOCKEY DUCK (39-937) (32-23-1,127) of DUCKS UNLIMITED challenged HUW AP HUW (35-
3030) (31-81-1,131) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. Up 4. HOCKEY DUCK slimly won victory over
HUW AP HUW in a 9 minute Challenge fight. Nine minutes? That's so slim it's skinny.
For the title:
MAKESHIFT ANCHOR (1-7724) (47-50-0,256) of SEA DOGS fought MATH OP OWAIN (35-
1418) (60-105-1,186) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. MAKESHIFT ANCHOR demolished MATH OP OWAIN
in a popular 4 minute one-sided Title melee. Just as well, and don't call it luck
this time, Anchor. You earned it.
