Blood on a Purple Robe: A Bloodgames Primer
                                by One Armed Bandit

Twice a year, there is a great gathering. These tiny men with their stained
clothing and great intellects do not look like your traditional gladiators, but they
will meet and compete for a chance at Duel-2 immortality. No, no, I'm not talking
about the managers at the Face-to-Face. I'm talking about the murderous dwarves of
the Bloodgames.
It's probably the worst advertised event in Duel-2 history. It happens twice a
year, in January and July, and you don't have to fly across the country to
participate. For some, the Bloodgames are just a distant memory of a t-shirt that
never arrived, newer managers may have never even heard of it. For others, though,
it is a way of life. And it can be yours, too.
The cost: $10 to roll up the team, $49 to run them. At each Face-To-Face
tourney, two Bloodgames arenas are run. One of them (called the FtF Bloodgames) gets
run round-by-round for ten rounds, and warriors are allowed to change their
strategies, avoid, and make Bloodfeud challenges. For the other arena (called the
Mail-In Bloodgames), there are no bloodfeuds or avoids and each warrior must use the
same strategy and train for all ten rounds. You can participate in both even if you
don't attend the FtF, but you'll be at a slight disadvantage in the FtF Bloodgames
(the Mail-In Bloodgames is a perfectly level playing field).
The teams: Each team consists of TEN warriors, one of EACH style. You can
design each warrior however you want, as long as the stats add up to 84 points and no
stat is lower than a 3 or higher than a 21 (referred to as DYOs or design-your-own
warriors). Simply write down the following information on a piece of paper and mail
it to RSI (or email it to csr@reality.com): your name, your account number, the words
"Mail-In Bloodgames" or "FtF Bloodgames", the team name, and all ten warriors (name,
style, gender, ST-CN-SZ-WT-WL-SP-DF). If you submit them early enough you will
probably get a chance to see the overviews before sending in strategies for each of
them (using a normal strategy sheet, remember only one strategy and one train for the
entire event). If you want to play it safe, however, you can submit strategies along
with the team information, just write "NEW" in each of the Warrior ID spots and
either "MI BG" or "FTF BG" in the Game # spot. Some managers who are especially
ambitious will roll up each team more than once, and look over the overviews to
determine which team had the best luck in the roll-up process. Just remember, it
costs $10 each time you roll them up.
The rules: So what's the catch? $59 for 10 design-your-own warriors? Not so
fast, buddy. At the end of ten rounds, the top three warriors of different styles
from each arena will be granted immortality, trained up to the minimum ADM
requirements, and will graduate to ADM. Every other warrior will be gone forever.
Executed, freed, or retired to a quiet life on the farm like your childhood dog
Buster, if that helps you sleep at night. If the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ranked warriors
are a LU, a WS, and an AB, then those three will win the prizes. However, if the
1st, 2nd, and 3rd ranked warriors are a LU, a LU, and a WS, the 2nd place LU is out
of luck, his prize will drop down to the highest ranking member of a style that isn't
LU or WS. So what does it take to be one of the top ranked warriors? Warriors are
ranked based on number of kills, first and foremost, with their record and
recognition points being the tie breakers. Oh, did I mention that the chances of
dying are FIVE TIMES that of a normal arena?
What to expect: You will run into many opponents who are SZ 3, who have 21 WT
and 21 WL, who are using a 10 KD and aiming for the vitals, who are using unusual
weapons that Duel-2 folklore says have a greater chance of delivering that killing
blow, such as the Battle Axe. You may run into such classic archetypes as the 17-3-
3-21-21-8-11 ST or the 17-16-3-3-21-3-21 AB.
So why should you play? There are many reasons. You don't have to feel guilty
about killing your friend's warrior, for starters, because that's the whole
objective. Unique kill text make it all the sweeter, too. You won't see anyone get
"pierced completely through" or "skewered through their vital organs" anywhere else
(at least I hope not). Not only is it exciting to read, but my most rewarding
warrior came from the Bloodgames and yours could, too. Whether you are a tournament
player or an arena player, if your warrior is tough enough to survive the Bloodgames,
he's tough enough for whatever task you set him to. My first Bloodgames graduate was
a warrior named Sushi Slinger of Sea Dogs: 17-3-3-21-21-12-7 SL. He left Old
Valamantis with a 10-0-3 record and immortality. Since then, he has been a
Tournament Victor in the Freshman tourney, a Runner-Up in the ADM tourney, and a
three-time Tournament Victor in the Eligibles tourney. He is now fighting in Primus
against the best of the best and holding his own. Your Bloodgames graduate could
join him in Primus, too.

"Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe.
Dare to fight bravely." - Alarond the Scribe

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

It was a quite day, as these things go. Everybody wiped out by hangovers from
the tourney, I suppose. My sources hint that the Split may happen before we meet
next, though they aren't positive. Too many things could go wrong. Still, that
isn't today's concern. Today, we have fights.
Nineteen fights, five standbys, one challenge, no avoids. Like I said, really
quiet here. Heart Breaker had the biggest point gain, 32. Gar & Brill had the
biggest drop, 29. Same fight.

Quick notes on the fights:
GUT BUSTER (26-4750) (27-24-2,39) of ULTRA-VIOLENT fought FLY FISHER (21-6727)
(20-2-1,70) of SEA DOGS. GUT BUSTER was devastated by FLY FISHER in an action packed
1 minute one-sided bout. One-sided in rank, maybe, but equally one-sided, in the
other direction, in fight experience. Practice, Gut Buster! You should be able to
take this guy.
CHATTY CABALIST (42-4488) (26-16-3,30) of DUNGEON CELL fought HERMY (101-4) (0-
0-0,50) of Random Odds. CHATTY CABALIST overpowered HERMY in a 1 minute mismatched
conflict. Not one of Hermy's better days.
LAHRS ENNY (39-3400) (24-20-0,73) of CRIMINAL ELEMENT fought PRISONER BG23 (97-
3369) (7-8-5,27) of DUNGEON CELL W10A. LAHRS ENNY overpowered PRISONER BG23 in an
exciting 4 minute brutal one-sided match. If it was one-sided, and I agree that it
was, why did it take Lahrs four minutes to win?
ALARIC (28-3787) (20-11-0,69) of THE WARLORDS II fought LAZY LOOKOUT (42-4504)
(20-13-1,38) of DUNGEON CELL. ALARIC bested LAZY LOOKOUT in a popular 2 minute
brawl. You know, I think we may be specializing in one-sided and uneven matches here
today!
     MIRAGE (84-10230) (13-7-1,47) of DRAGON'S GUARD V fought SURLY DECKHAND (21-
6568) (29-37-1,30) of SEA DOGS. MIRAGE was handily defeated by SURLY DECKHAND in a 1
minute mismatched bout. And if you saw a mirage on your deck, you'd probably be
surly, too. Although it may depend on the mirage. And the deck.
     PRISONER R02 (82-51078) (20-32-1,32) of DUNGEON CELL 4 fought LAKE SAILOR (101-
2) (0-0-0,30) of Random Odds. PRISONER R02 was vanquished by LAKE SAILOR in a 1
minute mismatched bout. Bad show, Prisoner. What were you THINKING?

     PHANTASMAL (84-10204) (15-1-0,93) of SISTERHOOD fought SALTY (21-6607) (27-28-
1,57) of SEA DOGS. PHANTASMAL overcame SALTY in a popular 1 minute conflict. But
you will note the bookies didn't consider this uneven. Tells you something, doesn't
it?
WEE MAN (19-5071) (21-27-0,111) of CUNNING RUNTS fought OWAIN HARLSON (35-3130)
(46-70-1,149) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. WEE MAN was subdued by OWAIN HARLSON in a popular
4 minute brawl. Four minutes? Owain, you should have done that a lot faster.
KEEL HAULER (9-5389) (25-5-0,133) of SEA DOGS fought KNEE BREAKER (26-4770) (23-
20-0,142) of ULTRA-VIOLENT. KEEL HAULER demolished KNEE BREAKER in a 1 minute
mismatched competition. Banged him on the knees with a keel. Whammo.
PRIZMATYK WAHL (73-4252) (26-17-2,150) of MAGIC MAYHEM fought FLESH FLAYER (26-
4751) (29-20-1,109) of ULTRA-VIOLENT. PRIZMATYK WAHL handily defeated FLESH FLAYER
in a 2 minute brutal one-sided bout. Dazzled the Flayer, in fact. Rainbows R Us.
GAR & BRILL (38-4252) (77-131-1,170) of JUST BECAUSE fought HEART BREAKER (26-
4752) (29-23-1,129) of ULTRA-VIOLENT. GAR & BRILL was vanquished by HEART BREAKER in
an exciting 1 minute one-sided fight. The rank-changing fight. These two started
out far apart in the rankings, now they're closer, and reversed.
HUW AP HUW (35-3030) (33-90-1,162) of CHILDREN OF LLYR fought MARY ANN (47-4378)
(21-31-0,142) of SCREEN DREAMS. HUW AP HUW was defeated by MARY ANN in a 2 minute
duel. Always a sucker for a pretty woman, Huw.

TAVIS CADFALSON (35-1419) (52-124-3,176) of CHILDREN OF LLYR fought NO CHASER
(33-6490) (34-28-0,136) of JOYS OF BOOZE. TAVIS CADFALSON vanquished NO CHASER in a
1 minute uneven duel. Chased his opponent right out of the ring, in fact.
DIVING HAWK (3-2665) (43-63-0,167) of WE BIG WOHPUM fought SPARE ANCHOR (18-
9610) (32-22-1,120) of SEA DOGS. DIVING HAWK devastated SPARE ANCHOR in an action
packed 3 minute one-sided competition. This was amazing. I have never seen a hawk
actually dive down and carry away an anchor. They usually go for things they can
eat.
PRISONER 0118 (82-33748) (39-70-0,182) of DUNGEON CELL 24 fought ARENAMASTER
AZEEM (101-28) (0-0-0,200) of Random Odds. PRISONER 0118 devastated ARENAMASTER
AZEEM in a 1 minute one-sided duel. An amazing boost to Prisoner's morale.
PRISONER BG11 (99-1620) (23-26-4,184) of DUNGEON CELL 508C fought OSWALD ORC
(101-24) (0-0-0,181) of Random Odds. PRISONER BG11 narrowly defeated OSWALD ORC in
an exciting 5 minute bloody fight. Narrowly? How can anyone defeat Oswald
"narrowly"? It calls for broad strokes.
PRISONER 0103 (82-33733) (54-68-0,217) of DUNGEON CELL 21 fought SHARON SHEW
(101-25) (0-0-0,181) of Random Odds. PRISONER 0103 demolished SHARON SHEW in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute bloody uneven fight. Just an old soft Shew.

The challenge:
NIGHTBLADE (6-2008) (33-46-0,189) of THE DARK LORDS challenged MATH OP OWAIN
(35-1418) (65-111-1,196) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. Up 7. NIGHTBLADE was devastated by
MATH OP OWAIN in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. I know Math is way more
experienced, but I still would have thought Nightblade could take him.
Disappointing.

For the title:
POOP DECK GUY (1-8274) (34-12-2,244) of SEA DOGS fought BUDDERCUP (60-5967) (47-
46-0,191) of BUMS 'R' US. POOP DECK GUY vanquished BUDDERCUP in a 1 minute uneven
Title battle. Congratulations to Poop Deck Guy, once again. Hold on tight, eh?
