REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Yes, well, I've seen more action here at times in the past, and despite my
comments to the Children of Llyr, I was inclined not to write much for you today.
But then I bethought myself of Darkholm, with only eleven fights last time, and once
I stopped laughing, I figured you guys deserved better because you did better. What
the heck.
We had eighteen fights, but only one standby. Great! No challenges, minimal
avoids, but with the Split wandering around, I figure this makes sense. Otherwise,
knowing who'd be facing you, you would be issuing many challenges and avoids, right?
Of course you would. Random Blades, by the way, were "most avoided" by The Dark
Lords.
Salty rose farthest (compared to where he began) with 32 points for defeating
Tiffinal. Tiffinal, after losing to Salty, fell farthest by 30 points.
The fights themselves:
SHADOW BLADE (46-2972) (20-8-6,81) of SERPENT'S HOLD fought PRISONER BG23 (97-
3369) (7-10-5,32) of DUNGEON CELL W10A. SHADOW BLADE savagely defeated PRISONER BG23
in a 1 minute mismatched fight. No real surprise here, look at the difference in
experience! And a lot of regular gladiators don't much like bloodgamers, not that
Shadow Blade is any less murderous than the Prisoner, but it seems to be a question
of principle. Or something.
HALIBUTT (5-4866) (23-18-0,66) of WIZARD'S WRATH fought SURLY DECKHAND (21-6568)
(31-37-1,75) of SEA DOGS. HALIBUTT was overpowered by SURLY DECKHAND in an exciting
2 minute one-sided bout. Again, no surprise, you'd figure a Sea Dog would know what
to do with a fish.
PRISONER R02 (82-51078) (20-34-1,18) of DUNGEON CELL 4 fought HERMY (101-4) (0-
0-0,50) of Miscellaneous Bods. PRISONER R02 bested HERMY in a crowd pleasing 1
minute brawl. Hermy was, unless I missed something, our only standby on the sands
today, and not at all pleased with the outcome of this match. Tough!
LAZY LOOKOUT (42-4504) (21-14-1,49) of DUNGEON CELL fought MIRAGE (84-10230)
(13-9-1,29) of DRAGON'S GUARD V. LAZY LOOKOUT won victory over MIRAGE in an exciting
1 minute fray. The Lookout has been overheard commenting that this proves there was
nothing wrong with his lookouting before, the things he was alleged to have missed
seeing were "just more mirages." Whether this argument will carry much weight is a
question I won't touch. Let his teammates deal with it.
HEMPEN JIG (9-5388) (25-20-1,80) of SEA DOGS fought FAMINE (21-6826) (14-9-0,51)
of DARK AT HEART. HEMPEN JIG handily defeated FAMINE in a popular 2 minute bloody
uneven fight. Ah, and no wonder! Hempy came well prepared with a bacon cheeseburger
and a side order of fries. No famine for HIM.
LAHRS ENNY (39-3400) (25-21-0,61) of CRIMINAL ELEMENT fought FLY FISHER (21-
6727) (21-3-1,67) of SEA DOGS. LAHRS ENNY was savagely defeated by FLY FISHER in a
popular 3 minute bloody brawl. Some things you can steal with near impunity, others
you can't. It is clear that where fishing lures and hand-tied flies are concerned,
someone will go to the wall.
TIFFINAL (5-4865) (22-18-2,100) of WIZARD'S WRATH fought SALTY (21-6607) (27-30-
1,60) of SEA DOGS. TIFFINAL was handily defeated by SALTY in a 1 minute one-sided
contest. This is the fight that brought the most movement in the ranks, and you can
perhaps see why here. Salty didn't even sweat over it.
ALARIC (28-3787) (22-11-0,95) of THE WARLORDS II fought CHATTY CABALIST (42-
4488) (28-16-3,61) of DUNGEON CELL. ALARIC overpowered CHATTY CABALIST in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided match. The arenamaster had trouble getting Chatty to
shut up long enough for him to announce the winner.
GAR & BRILL (38-4252) (77-133-1,138) of JUST BECAUSE fought HUW AP HUW (35-3030)
(33-92-1,145) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. GAR & BRILL slimly lost to HUW AP HUW in a 2
minute bout. Huw was surprised--as well he should be, how this man every managed to
graduate is a mystery. But the fans were disgusted, having hoped that Gar would be
long gone to Talahya. Unfortunately, no. The Gar is a pud of puds. Of course, so
is Huw....
NACHTRAG (51-4310) (20-6-0,129) of RESURRECTION fought PRISONER 0484 (82-49671)
(18-36-1,91) of DUNGEON CELL 97. NACHTRAG defeated PRISONER 0484 in a 2 minute
brutal fight. And what did this Prisoner do to deserve such a brutal treatment?
Search me! Maybe someone will enlighten us. Or not, leaving us to imagine all sorts
of dark deeds.
TAVIS CADFALSON (35-1419) (53-125-3,178) of CHILDREN OF LLYR fought SMOKE (68-
5868) (21-12-0,144) of ZOMBIE SQUAD II II. TAVIS CADFALSON slimly lost to SMOKE in
an action packed 6 minute gruesome fight. That it took Smoke six minutes to win this
does not speak well for said Smoke, although it not being called "one-sided" softens
that a little.
PRIZMATYK WAHL (73-4252) (28-17-2,162) of MAGIC MAYHEM fought OWAIN HARLSON (35-
3130) (47-71-1,135) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. PRIZMATYK WAHL vanquished OWAIN HARLSON in
a 1 minute uneven duel. My own feeling is that Owain would do well to take up some
other career. Knitting, maybe? Or basket-weaving. Something quiet and relaxed.
NO CHASER (33-6490) (35-29-0,155) of JOYS OF BOOZE fought PRISONER BG11 (99-
1620) (24-27-4,172) of DUNGEON CELL 508C. NO CHASER was viciously subdued by
PRISONER BG11 in a popular 1 minute competition. Some people are determined to have
their chasers, say what you will. Don't ask me why.
SPARE ANCHOR (18-9610) (33-23-1,154) of SEA DOGS fought DOUGH BERMIN (41-1633)
(38-29-3,141) of DA DOG POWNDAZ. SPARE ANCHOR luckily beat DOUGH BERMIN in an
exciting 7 minute struggle. Okay, Spare Anchor is tough, but you can see that Dough
Bermin has got to be tough, too. The dog is someone to be watched out for just as
much as the nautical hardware.
PRISONER 0118 (82-33748) (41-70-0,205) of DUNGEON CELL 24 fought MARY ANN (47-
4378) (23-31-0,160) of SCREEN DREAMS. PRISONER 0118 demolished MARY ANN in an action
packed 1 minute mismatched competition. It would seem that Mary Ann was overmatched
both ways from breakfast. But that's life when you don't challenge.
NIGHTBLADE (6-2008) (34-47-0,201) of THE DARK LORDS fought KEEL HAULER (9-5389)
(27-5-0,163) of SEA DOGS. NIGHTBLADE was devastated by KEEL HAULER in a popular 1
minute one-sided contest. No surprise here--really! You should know that guys who
haul keels don't stop at much. Certainly not at a blade in the dark.
DIVING HAWK (3-2665) (45-63-0,193) of WE BIG WOHPUM fought MATH OP OWAIN (35-
1418) (66-112-1,180) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. DIVING HAWK was demolished by MATH OP
OWAIN in a popular 1 minute one-sided melee. The result of experience, no doubt; you
can see that Math has a lot of it.
For the title:
PRISONER 0103 (82-33733) (56-68-0,231) of DUNGEON CELL 21 fought BUDDERCUP (60-
5967) (47-48-0,188) of BUMS 'R' US. PRISONER 0103 was viciously subdued by BUDDERCUP
in a 4 minute Title fight. Hard to tell so far whether this is good or not so good,
but it is. We look for a column from Buddercup next time!

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Nightblade -- You're likely to get into trouble, running in the dark with a knife. I
wouldn't interfere, except that a young fellow like you has a lot to lose if you trip
and stab yourself. -- Math op Owain
Clever -- Well... middling, anyway. -- Tavis Cadfalson
No Chaser -- That must make somebody happy. But you can chase me, if you want. --
Owain Harlson
Keel Hauler -- I suppose the absence of your teammate, the Poop Deck Guy, means we've
had the Split, yes? Too bad, he was a good guy. Friendly. Not to say you aren't,
just, we don't know yet, do we? -- Huw ap Huw
Huh, you could've given us a little commentary with the fights, Olaf! -- Math,
speaking for the Children of Llyr
Math -- No time. I'll do better with this batch. -- Olaf
P.S. But that means you have to comment on the commentary next time!

WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!
Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 14-16, 2011. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-894-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $129.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception (yes, really!), free
airport shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 22
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and people have been
unable to book rooms because they waited too long.) Look for the tournament info
