Reflections by the Captain of the Guard
Em, you should know the rules of Home Guard are, if you are the Captain of the
Guard, you are expected to write a column. It is stuff like that that makes this
place a heck of a lot more interesting than Tallayeehaa! or whatever that big place
on the Isle is called. Good fight, but you should know many people have lost stuff
in my hair, so I wouldn't recommend attacking there.
Our beef of the week is not Top Sirloin, Ground Chuck, or even Kobe, but rather
the commission's handling of the freshmen tourney again. Myself and a bunch of
Crip's other warriors who used to be ADM classed received mini-overviews that said we
could go into the Freshmen tourney, so Crip altered his roster to give some of us a
chance we'll probably never have again. And then, KaPOW! After we get to the
tourney, we find out we weren't in the Freshmen class afterall. The net result of
that was 11 misclassed warriors who combined to go 13-32-0-1, with the best showing
by Rubber Bullet at 3-3. Hopefully that will never happen again.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Crip, I don't know what happened in the tourney, and my advice is to grumble to
the head office.
On a more immediate, or at least accessible note: today's fights. Twenty-four
of 'em, unfortunately with nine standbys. The standbys don't need all that work.
Six challenges, and if we'd had more challenges, there might have been fewer standbys
out there. Let's work on this.
Most avoided was Lords of Darkness, with Royal Flush avoiding them the most.
BWIN EVOC (71-1965) (19-14-1,71) of WRATHMEN II fought B&G BOUNCER (101-3) (0-0-
0,30) of the Louts Local 101. BWIN EVOC was vanquished by B&G BOUNCER in a 1 minute
one-sided fray. This fight caused Bwin to drop most in the rankings, no surprise; he
lost thirty-one points. Bwin was also least popular with the fans. I put it all
down to the hangover he brought into the arena. Never bring a hangover to a fight,
it doesn't help.
DOMINIC (27-3085) (31-18-0,90) of WRATHMEN fought PASTRAMI ELEMENTAL (96-3748)
(12-5-3,48) of ARCANE GREATS FTF. DOMINIC demolished PASTRAMI ELEMENTAL in a 1
minute one-sided melee. On rye bread.
HOFFA (18-8478) (22-92-1,59) of ARROGANCE fought HAMMERHEAD (35-4129) (32-33-
2,60) of SEA DOGS. HOFFA was overpowered by HAMMERHEAD in a popular 1 minute gory
uneven fight. In a way, I'm surprised. I wouldn't have tought you could defeat a
hoffa by hammering his head.
WHAT'S A VOLKSIE? (38-4563) (16-5-0,73) of TEAM FLOYD fought BAKED CONVINCIA
(98-2341) (16-15-4,79) of SHEWISH BANQUET. WHAT'S A VOLKSIE? was overpowered by
BAKED CONVINCIA in a 1 minute uneven fight. Hmm, does this mean a Volksie is a picky
eater who can't handle Baked Convincia? They tell me it's especially good with heavy
cream. But then, most things are especially good with heavy cream.
BEAULIEU (41-3057) (23-15-0,72) of WRATHMEN fought MEAN SPIRIT (101-5) (0-0-
0,70) of the Louts Local 101. BEAULIEU was devastated by MEAN SPIRIT in a 1 minute
one-sided bout. Maybe we should throw a party to help Beaulieu recover from the
devastating meanness?
SCROD BOY (38-4675) (23-28-1,93) of INQUISITION CLONES fought ARIOCH (21-7423)
(17-8-1,60) of MINIONS OF CHAOS. SCROD BOY overpowered ARIOCH in an action packed 1
minute uneven fray. I'd call Scrod Boy a minion of Chaos all by himself.
DOMINIC (30-3545) (25-19-0,100) of WRATHMEN fought KOLACTAN KABOB (65-7072) (20-
3-3,81) of SHEWISH BUFFET. DOMINIC was savagely defeated by KOLACTAN KABOB in an
action packed 1 minute fight. You need sweet-and-sour sauce with the Kabob, Dominic.
HEARTBREAK (36-4612) (19-3-3,100) of WRATHMEN fought HOFFA (18-9369) (27-62-
0,55) of ARROGANCE. HEARTBREAK overpowered HOFFA in a crowd pleasing 1 minute bloody
mismatched fight. No surprise here, despite the fact that Hoffa is listed as our
most impervious total parry.
HYDROPONICUS (29-4605) (24-8-0,118) of BLUNT FORCE fought SHARK BAIT (33-7652)
(29-24-0,106) of SEA DOGS. HYDROPONICUS beat SHARK BAIT in an exciting 2 minute
brutal match. Rumor has it that Hydro is allied with a band of sharks. Or a school
or pod or gaggle or whatever.
LAZY LOOKOUT (42-4504) (38-32-1,152) of DUNGEON CELL fought ASSUR (18-7821) (35-
90-2,131) of ARROGANCE. LAZY LOOKOUT was devastated by ASSUR in a popular 1 minute
mismatched brawl. Despite being the top parry-lunger, Lazy dropped the ball on this
one. (And inquiring minds wonder why he had a ball out there in the arena in the
first place, but that's a different question.) Assur had the biggest rise in the
rankings because of this win: twenty-five points.
RUBBER BULLET (54-2503) (32-15-1,176) of USELESS TOOLS fought SLICK STEPHAN
(101-11) (0-0-0,150) of the Louts Local 101. RUBBER BULLET viciously subdued SLICK
STEPHAN in an action packed 3 minute brutal duel. Good. Slick needs a little
vicious subduing now and then. Rubber Bullet is our master of slice and dice, the
top wall of steel.
JACK KNIFE (47-6694) (28-13-1,173) of ROYAL FLUSH fought SLICK STEPHAN (101-11)
(0-0-0,150) of the Louts Local 101. JACK KNIFE was viciously subdued by SLICK
STEPHAN in an action packed 7 minute fight. Oops! Even though he lost, Jack is the
most popular warrior this turn.
