                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

Okay, I know you guys are all on the road, headed for the tourney, so I'll keep
this short and fast.
     Here's the facts:
Biggest point gain: System of a Down up 21. Biggest drop: Manny Lehman, 24.
Most avoided: Real Beer, by Wrathmen.
Most challenged: one of the Hoffas.
Twenty-one fights, three challenges, three standbys. I think. Sometimes these
big numbers confuse me.

     WHAT'S A VOLKSIE? (38-4563) (25-13-0,76) of TEAM FLOYD fought HAMMERHEAD (35-
4129) (40-42-2,82) of SEA DOGS. WHAT'S A VOLKSIE? was overpowered by HAMMERHEAD in a
1 minute uneven fray. Yeah, well, that's sharks for you.
     JACK DANIELS (41-3947) (18-7-0,67) of I C DRUNK PEOPLE fought NERO (29-5707)
(22-25-0,59) of TREKKERS. JACK DANIELS was overpowered by NERO in a 1 minute one-
sided duel. Playing with fire, eh?
RED ALERT (50-139) (31-23-0,53) of PUBLIC ENEMY fought KID KOALA (4-5694) (14-
10-1,53) of COLLEGE RADIO #4. RED ALERT handily defeated KID KOALA in a popular 1
minute mismatched competition. This is "paying your dues" when you arrive on the
Isle, Kid. It gets better, newer guys come along and you can beat up on them.
MANNY LEHMAN (51-5074) (20-21-1,57) of COLLEGE RADIO fought B&G BOUNCER (101-3)
(0-0-0,30) of Various and Sundry Standbys. MANNY LEHMAN was overpowered by B&G
BOUNCER in a 1 minute one-sided match. No wonder Manny dropped.
KUNG PAO KOLACTAN (63-2882) (18-2-2,58) of SHEWISH BUFFET fought HOFFA (18-9369)
(32-74-0,66) of ARROGANCE. KUNG PAO KOLACTAN devastated HOFFA in an exciting 4
minute brutal one-sided fight. Not the most-challenged Hoffa, a different one.
     SPIDERPIG (74-4304) (17-4-0,55) of HOMER'S PETS fought SHELLBACK (33-7769) (14-
3-0,45) of SEA DOGS. SPIDERPIG bested SHELLBACK in a 1 minute brawl. Spiders and
pigs is a strange combination.

NAKED LUNCH (78-2917) (17-4-0,55) of SHEWISH BUFFET fought KHYLAR (36-4613) (23-
14-0,70) of WRATHMEN. NAKED LUNCH lost to KHYLAR in an exciting 1 minute fray. If I
was a lunch in this weather, I'd try to keep my buns warm. Not run around naked.
RABID TOAD (98-2767) (9-9-4,23) of BLOOD FROGS 2 fought NASTY NES (50-142) (27-
34-1,67) of PUBLIC ENEMY. RABID TOAD lost to NASTY NES in a crowd pleasing 2 minute
bout. I should hope so! Rabid toads are something I can't stand.
HORSE D'OEUVRE (61-3635) (20-1-3,93) of SHEWISH BUFFET fought LI KUI (52-851)
(17-12-1,64) of WAH CHING. HORSE D'OEUVRE overpowered LI KUI in a popular 1 minute
mismatched conflict. Not lunch and not naked, a tougher proposition.
BASS (21-5262) (15-2-3,99) of REAL BEER fought KURTAL DUCK (78-2861) (27-39-
1,30) of SAND DANCERS. BASS devastated KURTAL DUCK in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-
sided battle. Face it, the Duck can't drink. I hear he tried to fly south for the
winter and fell out of the sky.
     OHMYGOD (63-2147) (21-4-1,102) of WRATHMEN fought ASSUR (18-7821) (41-101-2,136)
of ARROGANCE. OHMYGOD was demolished by ASSUR in a 1 minute mismatched competition.
Sometimes arrogance has a foundation in fact, eh?
SHARK BAIT (33-7652) (36-34-0,155) of SEA DOGS fought BATTLING BOB (101-26) (0-
0-0,200) of Various and Sundry Standbys. SHARK BAIT was beaten by BATTLING BOB in an
exciting 2 minute fight. Well, you know, Bob likes to fish, and he said he needed
bait....

DOMINIC (30-3545) (30-25-0,158) of WRATHMEN fought INKED PIG (15-5112) (22-2-
0,132) of INK & STEEL RETRO. DOMINIC narrowly defeated INKED PIG in an exciting 3
minute gruesome fight. Not grue, red ink.
BAKED CONVINCIA (98-2341) (28-20-4,167) of SHEWISH BANQUET fought OWAIN HARLSON
(35-3130) (73-114-1,150) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. BAKED CONVINCIA slimly won victory
over OWAIN HARLSON in a 5 minute fight. So much for Owain's winning streak. If he
had one going, I forget.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN (38-4451) (36-19-1,191) of TEAM FLOYD fought LAZY LOOKOUT (42-
4504) (48-39-2,206) of DUNGEON CELL. SYSTEM OF A DOWN handily defeated LAZY LOOKOUT
in a 1 minute uneven melee. Not to be critical, but I've seldom seen such a lazy
opponent here.
BRYNMAR (20-2986) (33-36-1,192) of WRATHMEN fought HUW AP HUW (35-3030) (56-138-
2,191) of CHILDREN OF LLYR. BRYNMAR was savagely defeated by HUW AP HUW in a crowd
pleasing 4 minute gory brawl. Ah, today it's Huw who has the winning streak.
SURLY DECKHAND (21-6568) (64-73-1,196) of SEA DOGS fought ARENAMASTER AZEEM
(101-28) (0-0-0,200) of Various and Sundry Standbys. SURLY DECKHAND devastated
ARENAMASTER AZEEM in a 1 minute one-sided duel. Did you know that arenamasters fight
each other not to work here on the Isle?

The challenges:
ROTTING ROLAND (32-5437) (23-7-0,80) of THE WALKING DEAD challenged HOFFA (18-
8478) (26-105-1,78) of ARROGANCE. Down 2. ROTTING ROLAND overpowered HOFFA in a 4
minute mismatched Challenge duel. THIS Hoffa is the most challenged one.
CAPTAIN KIRK (29-5754) (20-12-1,71) of TREKKERS challenged THRESHPACK (50-138)
(29-24-0,99) of PUBLIC ENEMY. Up 28. CAPTAIN KIRK was vanquished by THRESHPACK in a
1 minute uneven Challenge battle. Things always go badly early in the episode.
     SULU (29-5705) (26-21-0,95) of TREKKERS challenged RUPTURE (99-3463) (12-6-
4,100) of BLOOD GANG. Up 5. SULU devastated RUPTURE in a 1 minute mismatched
Challenge fight. Duck tape. Yep.

For the title:
RALTUMAN OMELET (78-2857) (21-5-2,208) of SHEWISH BUFFET fought CAO ZHENG (54-
85) (33-35-6,187) of ASIAN INVASION. RALTUMAN OMELET was overpowered by CAO ZHENG in
a 1 minute mismatched Title match. That's one omelet eaten to the max. Good work,
Cao Zheng.

Ever wonder how the whole challenge/avoid thing works?
Who you fight depends on exactly how it works. We will never know exactly how it
works unless we can get a look at the coding for the program, but this is how I think
it works:

The Situation:
The system allows a warrior to make two separate challenges and two distinct
avoids.
Avoids are distinct in that they MUST indicate a specific team to be avoided, so
a "double avoid" indicates a single team twice, which by default means you are
avoiding one team. In this case, the second avoid is a duplicate and therefore a
waste of an avoid.
Challenges are to specific warriors. You have a first challenge, and then you
have a second challenge.

The Process:
First the computer removes all Dark Arena challengers from the list of available
warriors.
Second, the computer checks for WHO fights WHO by going though all TVs and
bloodfeuds, which are 100% sure to go through except in four instances:
     1. the warrior challenged does not fight,
     2. the warrior challenged is also making a bloodfeud or TV challenge and that
challenge has already been assigned,
     3. the warrior has already been assigned to a Dark Arena fight,
     4. that warrior has declared your team to be one of his warrior's avoids,
reducing your challenge to 50%.
Third, the computer assesses all the regular first-challenge warriors and assigns
fights. All other challenges are at 100% chance of success except in a few instances:
warrior challenged is going to the DA, warrior challenged is involved in a previously
assigned challenge, warrior challenged is not running this turn, or warrior challenged
has avoided your team at 50% chance to avoid.
Fourth, the computer assesses and assigns all secondary challenges of warriors
not so far assigned for bloodfeuds and TVs.
Fifth, the computer assesses and assigns all the regular second challenges.
Sixth, the computer assigns random matchups in each available class starting with
the highest class first.
Seventh, the computer finds the remaining warriors that have successfully avoided
all first and second challenges and/or who also did not get randomly assigned, AND for
whom no more available warriors remain in their class for random pairing. All of
these warriors get RSI-generated warriors to fight based on their class.
So, if I'm right and avoids reduce the chance for a challenge to 50%, then:
In the absence of an avoid
          single challenge = 100% success
double challenge = 100% success, then an additional 100% success
     Where an avoid is involved
single challenge vs avoid = 50% success
          double challenge vs avoid = 75% (chance to avoid is 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25; 1 -
0.25 = 75% chance to succeed

Bloodfeuds and TVs may increase the percentage chance of success above 100%, or
they may not. I feel that their increased ability to get through is based solely on
the way the computer assigns challenges. They are first, so they are most likely to
go through. The 100% chance for a challenge to succeed is 100% if it's a TV bloodfeud
and you are the first one to get assigned a fight that day because you are also the
Duelmaster. But after that the chances start to diminish rapidly.
The run-through for second challenges theoretically means your challenge should
be 100% but it's not the case if you are the LAST guy the computer goes to for finding
challenges.
If you don't double challenge, you significantly lower your chance to get your
challenge through. The second challenge is not equal to the first challenge.
