It wasn't something he'd expected, which made it even better. Cadal explained to the people-- several times--that the hunter had not been destroyed, only driven off, and that the road was still dangerous after dark, but the Korgans didn't seem to care. They fussed over Fist, cheered when he assured them that Aghtamar, herself a Korgan, had been invaluable in the effort, and generally made a party out of the whole situation. Later that evening, when all the gladiators were so full of food they could barely move (or didn't want to, at least), Fist drew Cadal aside. "These people act like all their troubles are over!" he worried. "The hunter will still be out there, maybe not right away, but he'll be back." "I know that," Cadal said, "and you know that, and more of the Korgans realize it than you might think. But there isn't anything else we can do about it without help." He smiled faintly. "Even the kind of help you had is not exactly what we need here. It was enough for that night, but it was...." He frowned, groping for the right words, then shrugged. "There was power enough, you understand, and the will to help, but it wasn't really the best tool for the job." "What is the best tool, then? If there is one at all." "I think there is a tool," Cadal said, "and I think the man who knows about it is Lord Malcorn. So in the morning we head for Malcorn, and we ask." Zukal: Ghenis watched the ship _Relentless_ ease out into the channel and brushed his hands together. It was bound for Niatoli to further certain interests of the dark cult. On it was Veleks, and Cousin Og, who would look after the small thief...one way or another. Which freed him to attend to other matters. First of those other matters was a meeting with Pelishtekan, the Ferencian who was currently the 'chief priest' of the cult. Ghenis scowled to hide his grimace of disgust. He didn't like the Ferencian. In fact, he loathed the man. But it wasn't necessary to like him, not really. As long as Pelishtekan did his job, nothing else counted. And right now, the man's job was to explain what manner of creature, monster, or whatever was hunting over the lands just north of Zukal. And how the damned thing could be fought and destroyed. It was in the way of certain plans that he had made for the benefit of the dark cult...and of himself, of course. The dark power did not expect his minions to work for nothing but the joy of it. Ghenis left the waterfront behind and wove his way through the twisted and noisome alleys of one of Zukal's poorest districts. The cult always had its centers among the homes of the poor. They were the ones who had something to gain from it, and nothing to lose, from shaking up the old order, after all. Ghenis smiled just a little. He liked shaking things up. The cult was headquartered in a tall narrow building squeezed between other tall narrow buildings. The cellar, which was dark and always damp and divided into tiny rooms no more than six feet square, was used for...storage. More or less. The ground floor, reached by going down half a dozen steps from street level, was the shrine itself. The level above that was where the main work of the cult was done, the plotting and planning, the gathering of information, the good stuff. Above that, two floors of small rooms where members of the cult lived if they couldn't do better for themselves. And on the top floor, the pigeons that carried messages from points as distant as Zuwayza and Murska in the north, Rocanis, Xochithlan, and even Tricorus in the south. Most people had no idea how far the cult reached. Which was another source of amusement to Ghenis. The authorities here in Zukal, the very heart of the cult, had no idea that it was anything more than a handful of dissatisfied commoners meeting to worship some petty godling. Ha! If Bey Sekahos knew how near he stood to the rim of disaster, how fast he was sliding down the slope into hell--! Even the Bandit Princes, who had a clearer understanding of their city, didn't know that the cult was gaining power daily and would soon be ready to make its move. IF the monster north of the city could be dealt with. Ghenis pushed open the door of the old house and stepped toward Pelishtekan's office, batting away the coil of incense that came up from the shrine below. The incense wasn't necessary, just window-dressing added to the cult worship by Pelishtekan. Ghenis didn't care for it. Damned frills! But it did seem to please the lesser members, and of course it added to their "harmless crackpot" image. The Ferencian was waiting for him in the cult's office, simmering with indignation. As soon as the door was shut, he demanded, "What do you think you're doing?" Ghenis raised an eyebrow and smiled faintly, clearing off the other chair and sitting down. "Doing? The cult's work, of course. What did you think I was doing, Pelish?" "In sending Og and Veleks to Niatoli without consulting me, you were--" "--Doing as we agreed was necessary. Niatoli can't be left out of our plans, and we HAD agreed that we should send someone to lay the ground there." "But--" "And it was necessary to get Veleks out of the city before his fear broke the nerve of other people. Cousin Og will keep an eye on him." "If the thief's nerve is broken--" "He'll be fine on Niatoli. The thing he fears doesn't seem to cross water readily." Ghenis leaned forward. "Put aside your annoyance and listen to me, Pelish. The thing Veleks fears--let me tell you about it." He launched into a description of what he had seen north of Zukal, and of what Veleks had been able to tell him. When Ghenis was through, the other man sat in silence for a long moment. Then he shook his head, seeming almost dazed. "I had believed Alastari free of such beings, unaccountable as that freedom had appeared. I supposed it was the Grey Witch's doing, that she had bound them long ago to keep them from interfering in her plans. Why would she loose them now?" "Who knows what the Witch would do? But you do know what this monster--these monsters--are?" "More or less," the Ferencian said, shrugging. "They're remnants of the races that inhabited Ghea before...whatever, the Old Gods or who knows what, started meddling. The ancient scrolls which I have seen in Ferencia speak of them as being the rulers of the world when humans were still little more than beasts living in caves and there were no elves or dwarves here at all." He shrugged again. "Unsupported myth, of course, but it does suggest that they are a very old race. Frankly, if I'd thought of them at all, I would have supposed them destroyed here in Alastari." "Destroyed in Alastari," Ghenis repeated. "That implies that in other places-- such as Ferencia--they are not destroyed, and perhaps not even bound?" "They're BOUND, of course!" Pelishtekan snapped, scandalized. "Er...more or less. Differently in different places, of course. But we couldn't leave them LOOSE." "I can see that," the gladiator agreed. "So, we have these things loose here, but they CAN be bound. Okay, fine. How do we do it?" The Ferencian blanched. "WE don't do it, that is work for great wizards, high priests, men of power--" "And no one in the cult has that amount of power?" Scowling, Ghenis came to his feet and leaned closer to the Ferencian, his hands braced on the desk between them. He gathered up a fist-full of Pelishtekan's tunic. "Are you telling me that the cult doesn't have that kind of power? That it's just a piddling little two-bit cult?" Pelishtekan paled further. "No! No, the cult has that power, but nobody HERE can wield it! And with the Arcanum so weak--" "The state of the Arcanum doesn't seem to be affecting the monsters," Ghenis interrupted in a hard voice. "Any dark god worth his worship should be able to take care of a few monsters, Ferencian. If I find that this is just a small time operation for a small time demon after all, there will be HELL to pay, man, and I will PERSONALLY see that you pay the first installment." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Eye of the Storm #69 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + In the Far West: Shania Silverstar stared at the man, eyes narrowed in calculation. She sorted data quickly. A man of the local race, one she'd never seen before, not that she'd seen all the races of Ghea. An advanced gladiator. The nearest of Lady Greywand's arenas lay to the east of here, in Lirith Kai. And the westernmost of those arenas.... "You're from Simtakka?" "Smart as well as beautiful, I see." Faintly sneering. Not mocking her--she thought that he probably faced all life with a sneer. "I earned my immortality in Simtakka," he admitted after a moment. His scarred hands flexed. "I did it the hard way, too. The Adantri aren't all pushovers." "The ones I've met aren't," Shania agreed. "And their sense of honor is strong. Very strong." He bristled immediately. "If you're expecting that kind of soft-in-the-head honor from ME--" Shania smiled faintly. Some things a woman didn't need magic to understand. "You could have attacked me while I slept," she said. "But you didn't. Yes, I am expecting that honor from you. My name is Shania Silverstar, I graduated from an Andorian arena." She held out her hand. "Andorian. Gods, I should have known...a lot more softheaded than the Adantri. Gods curse the luck." When her extended hand didn't waver, he finally grasped it and shook it once, then turned away. Over his shoulder, he growled, "I'm called Zakar." "Zakar. Good. If you have food out there, I would be glad to share it with you." *** ***** *** ***** *** "There shouldn't BE a reef here!" Werre said again, scowling at his chart. "But we're stuck on one just the same," Jammies said with cheerful tactlessness. "Where do you suppose it came from?" "Doesn't matter where it came from," Ashon Chang growled. "The important thing is getting off it before the waves pound us into pieces." "Which they will do," Rughal added, studying the clouds that were being driven up from the south by a strong wind, and the increasingly rough sea below them. "This is some kind of magical effect," Herlas muttered. He had been tentatively readmitted to comrade-ship and allowed to move about the ship freely...although Rughal was usually not far away. "The reef, at least. The coming storm," he turned to stare southward, "I don't know. Even that MIGHT be magical. There's a mishmash of forces at work here...." "Can magic get us off this reef then?" Werre asked suddenly. "Can you do something?" Herlas shrugged. "I don't think so. This is not my area of expertise--weather, ships, and the moving of large objects." His eyes, unusually dark for a Fratsfan, narrowed as he stared into the water. "This is what comes of not stabilizing the Eye quickly enough," he muttered. "It could have been prevented--" He twitched when Rughal, standing behind him, growled. More briskly, he went on, "I don't think there's a lot I can do here, very powerful forces are at work--more powerful than those any one, or any two men, for that matter, can muster. And if our hull has been damaged, we might not WANT to get the ship off this reef, you know! Better to be stranded than to sink." "We won't sink if we get moving quickly enough," Werre countered. "If we get off right away. But if we stay here and let the wind and the waves pound us and drag us back and forth across whatever it is we hit--" "Looks like the top of a belfry," Jammies said, hanging over the side. Werre looked at Ashon Chang, who stared back at him. Then both of them glanced around. They were in the middle of a plain of water, with not even a rocky islet to be seen. "I don't suppose it matters what we hit," Ashon Chang said after a moment. The important thing is to get off it without having the bottom torn out of our ship." "Well, at least this explains why there aren't a lot of other ships following this good current," Vurand said. "What do we do?" "Two men over the side," Werre decided. "With ropes to keep them from being swept away, of course. To find out exactly how we're hung up." He glanced around the little group. "I presume all of you can swim?" *** ***** *** ***** *** Shania washed her hands in the little stream that flowed through the shrine, then sat back against the wall and sighed. "I needed that, thank you. Delicious." Zakar, squatting on the other side of the stream licked his own fingers and snorted. "Delicious," he repeated mockingly. "I bet you never ate korry in your life." "That the food was unfamiliar doesn't make it necessarily inedible," she retorted. She glanced out the doorway of the shrine. Twilight had fallen, but the sounds of a large population were still audible, and the light breeze carried the scent of thousands of cooking fires as well as the smell of a seacoast. "How long can we stay here?" Zakar shrugged. "I don't suppose Hodan cares, even if he really is a god and not just a myth. But we're both going to have people looking for us, and sooner or later, they'll look here." Shania blinked. "They'd violate a religious sanctuary? And what 'they', come to think of it? I know I am likely to be pursued by priests, but what about you?" "Everybody'd like to catch me." He seemed to take satisfaction in that. "I'm a flaming revolutionary. And a heretic, too. 'Course, those're the same thing, here in Zinaco." At her surprised look, he added, "They're a theocracy." "What did you do to--? No, that's none of my business, I suppose. How do we get out of here before we're found? Do we work together," she wasn't sure she wanted to work with Zakar, there was something about him...but he was the only potential ally she had here, "or each manage our escape separately?" Zakar was silent for a long time, studying her with a critical gaze, the way he might look at a horse he was thinking of buying. From someone he didn't trust. Finally he said, "We work together." His hard mouth curled into a smile of sorts. "I've got half an idea, but it would mean playing roles--you much good as an actress?" Shania's eyes narrowed. He seemed too pleased with his idea for it to be something she was going to like. "Depends on the role." She considered mentioning her magical skills and immediately decided against it. Better to keep that knowledge in reserve until she knew Zakar better. And maybe not then. *** ***** *** ***** *** In the end, it was Ashon Chang and Rughal who went over the side. "Because," the samurai explained to Rughal as he slid down a rope and into the water, "we are victims of our own honor. Werre must remain with the ship, as our most skilled sailor, neither Jammies nor Vurand swims well, and Herlas claims that he cannot swim at all. Less honorable men than we are might point out--" He gasped. "The water is colder than I expected! Might point out," he continued, moving out of the path of Rughal's descent, "that no great degree of swimming is required, and there ARE the safety ropes...." Rughal laughed, which Ashon Chang considered a small victory; the ranger hadn't so much as smiled since Shania had been taken from them. "I'd go back up and do just that," he said, "but we're already down here and wet, so we might as well take a look at things." The two men made their way along the small ship's waterline, probing with light poles for depth. Rughal, who was in the lead, made the first find. "Something here," he said, handing Ashon his pole. "I'll take a look." Before the samurai could reply, he doubled and thrust downward vanishing beneath the surface. The next minute seemed a very long one, and Ashon Chang began to hyperventilate in preparation for diving himself. Rughal resurfaced, gasped in breath, and said, "It IS a belfry! Or at least the roof of some kind of tower. Hard to tell what, and who cares? I think we can get off when the wind changes, IF it changes, as it usually does at sunset." "Is the hull damaged?" "Not that I can see. It's a roof with two ridge poles, and the front of our ship is sitting between them like they were the jaws of a vice. We can't go forward, but we should be able to go back, if the wind will cooperate." Rughal grabbed his rope and began to pull himself up hand over hand. "Excellent!" Ashon Chang began to pull himself up as well. "If the wind doesn't cooperate, we will get Herlas to do it." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Tides of Magic #17 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Not Lirin Kiv: Shylock, who had been lurking behind a hedge of rosebushes as Master Dan Shao explained the war with the Grey Witch to Clemenda, frowned and sank down onto a handy bench. This would require thought. This "Grey Witch of the East" sounded nearly as powerful as Sheila Greywand, and if that was the case, she was a threat to his plans. She would have to be removed--which had the added advantage that it would apparently make him a hero to these people. Or else he would have to write off this world as a place to establish himself and find some other. Because he had no intention of sharing power.... The thing to do, he decided, was to visit the home city of this Witch. He didn't have to actually meet her to discover just how much of a danger she might be. But he had to be closer. And fortunately, there was an obvious reason for the journey: He, and also Clemenda, which would get her out of the hands of that cursed Master Dan Shao, would be seeking aid in finding and closing the Gate that had brought them here. An obvious reason, and one that no one could fault. He would propose the plan to Dan Shao immediately. No point in wasting time. *** ***** *** ***** *** "I don't see why we had to rush off like this," Clemenda muttered. "Another day or two wouldn't have mattered." "It might matter," Shylock assured her. "With magic, you can never tell about things like that. It MIGHT matter." He drew her down onto the bench beside him, smiling at the water that separated them from Master Dan Shao. More water every minute. "Besides," he said, "I promised you dinner in Talahya, and I can fulfill that promise till we get home." "But the Gate we came through must have been back there on that island!" "Gates are magic and don't always follow linear logic, my dear." "But--" "And besides, Dan Shao sent men out to search the island, and they reported that the Gate is gone. Or at least closed." He shrugged. "So we need to consult someone who understands the magic of this world. Dan Shao said the greatest magician or wizard or whatever you want to call her, the Grey Witch, lives on an island--Thallia, it's called--to the east." Clemenda sighed. "Okay, I don't argue with your logic, I guess. But I hope it's not FAR to the east, because I don't like sailing." She swallowed twice and moved back toward the rail, leaning over it. "I really don't...." *** ***** *** ***** *** "I don't know how far it is to Thallia," the ship's captain said. "I don't sail there. Just the Irindan Sea, and to the Pillars of Gold, the gates of the Middle Sea, you know, no farther." He gestured toward the east. "It's dangerous out there! Our Sea Patrols keep order in the Irindan, but the Middle Sea is full of pirates. Dangerous place, and you'd do better not to go. Stay in Lirith Kai. No place else is as good anyway." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 479): E. Polecat, nice try but even coming off an Eligibles TV, I have a lot more experience. Good luck fighting over the throne with Sethra Lavode and Blackmyth. You will need it! So, I end my career here tying Manic's record of 10 straight turns on the throne. Now will Blackmyth or Sethra Lavode be able to break this? Well, I still think I have one record in that between Home Guard and Free Blades I have held an ADM throne for a total of 21 turns! -- Nemesis REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER I was going away, down south to a sunny beach, you know? I mean, I was HERE yesterday, when the fights should've been, but they weren't! So why do I have to stay another day? Why shouldn't we ALL go down to a sunny beach? If it's a big beach, of course. I mean, we couldn't all go to the one I'm thinking about, because it's a LITTLE beach, you know, kind of imminent. And there's this little cafe nearby that has tables outside with big umbrellas, and they make drinks with lots of fruit in them, and umbrellas, of course, and they have these cute waiters in so-longs. And at night there's a guitar and, you know, drums. And palm trees--all day palm trees, not just at night. But SHE said I had to wait, so I did, and I hope you appreciate it, because SHE doesn't. As if! SHE never says thanks! That's, like, totally rude! And it's COLD here. Below freezing, which means no going out in the sun and working on my tan even if there WAS any sun, which there wasn't much. Well, that's all the, you know, complaining. I think maybe I ate too much and it made me grumpy. Sorry. So here's some fight news: We have been Split. This was last week, and now we're growing together crooked, but I guess we're all used to that, right? Drake's Bar-B-Q was most avoided, which is silly. Besides having really good ribs (I love it when he takes his shirt off), it's WARM there next to the fire, you know? Groove Merchants avoided him. Them. But what do THEY know, right? I mean, why? Or, you know, something like that. Ali Gator was most challenged, which is also one of Drake's warriors so the avoiding is something or other I forget. Something about straight tees, but seriously, who would iron a tee-shirt, which is the only way to get them straight because otherwise they twist? I mean, you know, always. Always. And they stretch, too, but that's different. We had forty-three fights, which I think is more than last time, but I'm not going to go find the notes to see because my fingers are cold, okay? And seventeen challenges, but only three were TV challenges, which is too bad. I guess somebody in Darkholm got all the tvs this time. Oh, well, we've still got radio. Or should that be tee-vees? I can never remember. One standby fought, one person died, and the longest fight was six minutes because it's too cold to stand around doing nothing for longer than that. So there you are. AND, I'm not going to turn the fights upside down today and put the, like, random matches first and the Lord Marshall last because I just don't feel like it. Not even with an umbrella, but they don't put umbrellas in ginger ale. I don't see why not, but they just don't. SETHRA LAVODE (71-4060) (25-5-0,224) of CASTLE BLACK TV challenged BLADE RUNNER # (33-4544) (86-60-4,244) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY. Up 20. SETHRA LAVODE devastated BLADE RUNNER # in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Good! I don't like Blade Runner # because he runs around killing people and doesn't write personals. One of the scribes in the office says that means I'm bussed, but I don't care. Besides, busses are fine. They go to beaches and you don't have to park them. I could never park a bus, you know. I couldn't make it fit in the lines, no matter how hard I tried. BLACKMYTH (11-4018) (56-32-0,228) of SHADOWS TV challenged LUMP O'GORE (13-1212) (90-80-5,236) of ILLFANG PACT. Up 8. BLACKMYTH demolished LUMP O'GORE in a popular 1 minute one-sided Challenge melee. Now there are lots of little lumps of gore, which is easier than having babies. Because, you know, I can't imagine anyone wanting to be Mrs. Lump O'Gore and have babies, so this is the only way, right? It's colognes. SCOURGE (74-2857) (27-20-1,197) of DARK ANGELS TV challenged HEL (82-14331) (32- 29-0,211) of ARCTIC GUARDS. Up 14. SCOURGE vanquished HEL in a popular 1 minute gory mismatched Challenge brawl. I don't know what's going on here, I mean, nobody TELLS me things, you know? But this sounds, like, totally nasty and COLD. CREED (64-3997) (69-45-0,226) of GROOVE MERCHANTS challenged TEMPEST (4-4503) (26-17-1,201) of STORM FRONT. Down 25. CREED was subdued by TEMPEST in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge competition. Well, what did he, meaning, you know, Creed, expect, after all? I mean, you just totally can't fight the weather. Especially storms. Better just to take your umbrella and go in. PANIC ATTACK (9-3624) (27-15-1,193) of DSM4 challenged MOONJUMPER (16-3062) (57- 91-1,198) of PUNNY AMINALS. Up 5. PANIC ATTACK was vanquished by MOONJUMPER in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. You know, if I sit at this table very long, which doing a spy report for you takes very long, my back hurts. But I think it's mostly from being, you know, tense with cold. Not that I'm VERY cold, or I would simply, like, walk away, but just enough to be tense. But at least it doesn't make me frown, which would make wrinkles. ALI GATOR (33-5584) (28-36-1,197) of DRAKE'S PETTING ZOO challenged BANKRUPT (71-3786) (43-16-0,220) of SHADOW GOLD. Up 23. ALI GATOR devastated BANKRUPT in a 2 minute one-sided Challenge competition. This is most challenged Ali, but I guess none of the mosts got through, right? Because of Ali being a, um, I can't read this note. Just a minute, I'll ask. Oh. Really? Well, okay. "Ali is a prudent investor." I thought it said Ali was a prude in a vest, which was, you know, a little strange, but I guess not. LORD LIGHTSPEED (33-2928) (35-26-3,182) of LUROCIANS II challenged ROYLAND (56- 3380) (58-45-0,207) of REDHORSE. Up 25. LORD LIGHTSPEED was vanquished by ROYLAND in a popular 1 minute uneven Challenge duel. You have to watch OUT for Royland. I mean, he's pretty, you know? But vicious. It's like a secret vice or something. Because of his father being a caravan raider, but he grew up in Monuntial or somewhere and had to hide it. I heard all about this from a friend who had a friend who knew all about it. BLACK ANDARUS (71-3783) (21-12-0,190) of SHADOW MOD challenged SMUG BUG (55- 2900) (38-60-0,190) of RHYME TYME. Straight across. BLACK ANDARUS vanquished SMUG BUG in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge duel. It isn't any good bugs being smug. Because people can always tell, and people totally don't like it when anyone is smug, but especially a bug. I know. I mean, I'm a people, and I don't like it, so that just SHOWS, doesn't it? RED BARON (33-1092) (32-30-3,163) of LUROCIANS II challenged KELOS (55-30) (54- 81-3,159) of ROCANIS RIDERS. Down 4. RED BARON was overpowered by KELOS in a popular 1 minute uneven Challenge match. Gosh, I thought Red Baron had a pizza! And with a pizza, how could you lose? Pizzas have totally everything, so they're, you know, balanced and not tippy. Scaley, you know? Like that. LORD REDMOND (12-4109) (32-19-1,166) of LUROCIANS IV challenged HOUSE MOUSE (55- 221) (108-174-2,133) of RHYME TYME. Down 33. LORD REDMOND savagely defeated HOUSE MOUSE in an exciting 2 minute Challenge match. Is House really a mouse? Or just wearing a hat with big ears? I want to know! Because of not being able to tell from the stands, you know. LIMA BEAN FLAMBE (70-3118) (30-23-0,167) of HEAVE HO! challenged SUPERIOR FORCES (33-4543) (58-88-2,119) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY. Down 48. LIMA BEAN FLAMBE handily defeated SUPERIOR FORCES in a 1 minute Challenge contest. And scorch marks on his armor, too. He'll have to send it out to be cleaned. TESSERACK (33-6641) (29-13-0,137) of SHADOW X challenged REDFOX (13-4197) (43- 62-0,145) of CARDOW HUNTERS. Up 8. TESSERACK was devastated by REDFOX in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge bout. I guess it was true about Redfox getting better after all. This is going to totally upset the bookies. I mean, if warriors get better, how will they know the odds? Or the evens, either? JUDITH (22-5832) (22-17-0,83) of WOMEN OF REALITY challenged JOELEAN (97-903) (15-14-4,95) of IVER'S GIRLS. Up 12. JUDITH was narrowly defeated by JOELEAN in a popular 4 minute bloody Challenge duel. THawk, I have a note here from the Scribe for you, and it says, "Alligator boots, just wait!" It was written right next to this fight, so I guess it's supposed to go here, but I don't know what it means. DIRT KNAP (15-4418) (22-5-2,55) of UNKNOWNS XX challenged BRANGUS (16-4162) (25- 37-1,50) of PUNNY AMINALS. Down 5. DIRT KNAP vanquished BRANGUS in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided Challenge fray. I guess Brangus should have really retired when he thought he might, if these new people can just beat him up all the time. I mean, why fight if you lose all the time, right? AGRO (29-4314) (23-32-1,61) of CROC FILES challenged SUNGOD DESIGNED ME (43- 4270) (18-3-0,67) of WENSINWASIN. Up 6. AGRO was devastated by SUNGOD DESIGNED ME in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge brawl. This is the alligator boots thing, isn't it? With monograms. SHEYN (64-4157) (20-0-1,75) of HEART OF DARKNESS challenged BEER (71-3539) (19- 23-0,75) of STUFF I BROUGHT. Straight across. SHEYN demolished BEER in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge bout. This isn't surprising. ALL gladiators AND their managers demolish beer. It's like, you know, some kind of rite. LORD FIREFLASH (33-2966) (27-30-0,83) of LUROCIANS II challenged SHADOW HAWK (71-3038) (15-25-2,56) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS. Down 27. LORD FIREFLASH beat SHADOW HAWK in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge fight. Of course. Because of fire driving off shadows and stuff. And that's the last challenge match, and now we have random matches. Even more of them. DR. SCUM (15-1968) (52-47-2,211) of DRAKE'S BAR-B-Q fought XERXES (67-2429) (46- 35-2,231) of MISSION IMPLAUSIBLE. DR. SCUM bested XERXES in a popular 1 minute contest. Is Xerxes a foaming cleanser? Or, you know, a water softener? I guess not. GROGGY DOGGY (55-223) (114-173-0,223) of RHYME TYME fought KOOSH BALL (71-3536) (37-28-0,181) of STUFF I BROUGHT. GROGGY DOGGY savagely defeated KOOSH BALL in an exciting 4 minute gory duel. Well, anybody would have expected that. I mean, dogs and balls, right? It's one of those dog things. I had a dog once that scalped tennis balls. Or peeled them. SNAP CRACKLE PUP (49-738) (40-35-1,215) of PETS ON FIRE fought NEBUCHADNEZZER (15-4097) (39-31-0,183) of GRAVEYARD GLORY. SNAP CRACKLE PUP was viciously subdued by NEBUCHADNEZZER in a 2 minute duel. I don't remember which was Neb and which was Chad or maybe it was Nezzer, so this is just one or the other of them. It's too confusing. Oh, here's the Lord Marshall fight. SPAZ GHOST (47-4161) (42-20-1,256) of DRAKE'S COMICS fought HINDENBIRD (49-1277) (38-22-0,192) of PETS ON FIRE. SPAZ GHOST overpowered HINDENBIRD in a popular 3 minute one-sided Title match. I guess what makes it for being Lord Marshall is that AFTER the fight, so they had no warning that it really, really mattered, which is stinky but what can you do, after the fight, Spaz Ghost had more recognition than anybody, which I guess means everybody recognized him so no good being in a cog-neato. So they made him Lord Marshall. Well, why not? JOPPA CLUBFIST (12-3748) (23-19-0,224) of HALL OF GIANT fought MIMR (82-3783) (47-37-2,212) of SOL INVICTUS. JOPPA CLUBFIST was vanquished by MIMR in a 1 minute one-sided match. That's a something or other. Because of not really having any clubs for weapons, except maces and war hammers and stuff, and they don't count. RAVEN EYES (12-2709) (66-82-0,222) of SWEET MAGIC fought MOONRACER (50-3206) (36-33-1,190) of MISFIT TOYS. RAVEN EYES vanquished MOONRACER in an exciting 1 minute one-sided fight. Were you excited? I wasn't excited. I mean, I blinked and missed it. UU DOEWANAKNO (73-1414) (24-7-1,231) of DRAKE'S LODGE fought MYMID EL NAIMIS (7- 4420) (58-24-1,198) of THE DANGER DOGS. UU DOEWANAKNO was slaughtered by MYMID EL NAIMIS in a 1 minute uneven bout. Ooooo! Dead! We have to have a funeral party. With barbeque. DARK OMEGA (21-4983) (42-43-0,190) of LORDS OF SHADOWS fought SACRELICIOUS (16- 4428) (24-13-0,175) of HOMERIC MMMMMMS.... DARK OMEGA was handily defeated by SACRELICIOUS in an exciting 1 minute uneven bout. BLUE ones. And, you know, MAUVE. I don't think they should MAKE MMMMs in those colors. It's, you know, sackerage. LADY EMILY (33-6626) (23-13-1,185) of LUROCIANS II fought FRAIL WHALE (55-1968) (101-155-3,169) of RHYME TYME. LADY EMILY slimly lost to FRAIL WHALE in an exciting 3 minute gory duel. It's one of those lady things, where you see something frail and say "there there" and pet it on the head, and it turns around and BITES you. Never be a lady, except sometimes, because of things that bite. HAYSEED X-IV (82-6120) (20-11-2,185) of PROJECT HAYSEED fought WOUNDWORT (12- 4228) (45-34-0,197) of DARKMOON. HAYSEED X-IV was defeated by WOUNDWORT in a 2 minute duel. You see what happens if you don't weed your garden? It just goes all totally hay. FERRET INFERNO (49-361) (40-32-2,191) of PETS ON FIRE fought DUBIJN (64-4092) (37-10-0,207) of HEART OF DARKNESS. FERRET INFERNO was overcome by DUBIJN in a 2 minute fight. I think it was the cold water, myself. Not with ice, just, you know, really cold. MORROLAN (7-4400) (38-43-2,198) of DEATHSGATE fought JULIUS (64-3641) (67-77- 2,183) of UNDER DURESS. MORROLAN was beaten by JULIUS in a popular 2 minute match. Julius duressed Morrolan. It says so right here: duress is to beat people up, and that's what Julius did. BEAG MAGDA (12-4380) (43-28-2,191) of DARKMOON fought CHAOS LICH (15-4132) (41- 28-0,205) of GRAVEYARD GLORY. BEAG MAGDA defeated CHAOS LICH in an exciting 1 minute bout. What I want to know is, what is the difference between a chaos lich and a law and order lich? SHEA MAGEBORN (75-2273) (31-26-0,188) of SHADOWCIRCLE fought NIGHTIE KNIGHT (12- 4731) (43-30-1,168) of LOBOTOMATION. SHEA MAGEBORN savagely defeated NIGHTIE KNIGHT in an exciting 6 minute bloody fray. This is supposed to be our longest fight, but what took longest was the style show in the middle. And where Nightie turned blue because of that REALLY not being warm, and the arenamaster rushed out with a bucket of hot tea to pour over his head and melt him again. FUNNY BUNNY (55-1862) (83-120-1,195) of RHYME TYME fought MADBULL (13-4198) (50- 83-1,163) of CARDOW HUNTERS. FUNNY BUNNY vanquished MADBULL in an exciting 1 minute mismatched fight. Everybody does it. This is not, you know, news. As if! E.A.POLECAT (15-2644) (51-29-3,210) of DRAKE'S BAR-B-Q fought TRYURLUCK (61- 1029) (52-39-1,207) of BLOOD KNIGHTS. E.A.POLECAT demolished TRYURLUCK in an action packed 1 minute gory one-sided struggle. Did you know E.A. has a raven on his helmet? I thought it was, like, stuffed or something, but it said "Nevermore." CRYPT KEEPER (15-4146) (34-23-1,179) of GRAVEYARD GLORY fought SWEET CHASTITY (35-504) (35-27-1,102) of 22 ACACIA AVENUE. CRYPT KEEPER was subdued by SWEET CHASTITY in a crowd pleasing 3 minute brutal match. Which means that now there is a Flower Shoppe, but not like the one in Fratsfa, in the crypt. (There is no chastity at the Flower Shoppe in Fratsfa.) MILA (55-29) (53-87-0,152) of ROCANIS RIDERS fought BLUE (33-5776) (22-14-1,120) of BLADES OF GRASS. MILA won victory over BLUE in a popular 1 minute bout. You SEE? Mila's just as vicious as Royland. Because of being Royland's father. And no hoes, up OR down. CRACK (15-832) (20-10-1,118) of PAIN KILLERS fought NEBUCHADNEZZAR (22-5821) (21-16-0,128) of BLADES OF WONDER. CRACK was vanquished by NEBUCHADNEZZAR in a 1 minute mismatched bout. This is the other one, and I guess they both won so it doesn't matter which is which. But I'm still confused. AVARICIOUS AVON (63-2388) (22-19-0,115) of TOMATO ENFORCER fought POINTY (16- 4427) (35-23-0,142) of HOMERIC MMMMMMS.... AVARICIOUS AVON subdued POINTY in a 2 minute competition. With sandpaper, so there were no points! You see how it is: if you have to enforce tomatoes, you get, you know, cunning. And sneaky. Because tomatoes are really hard to enforce, and they fight back. Catsup stains! SAMPSA (31-4233) (23-7-2,134) of SOL INVICTUS fought OURS ROUGE (3-6049) (18-24- 1,95) of THE REDBAERS. SAMPSA was vanquished by OURS ROUGE in a 2 minute one-sided match. This is "no bearskin rug day," right? But do we really want to defeat the sun? I mean, what about tanning? GRAHAM (29-4318) (29-23-0,94) of CROC FILES fought LOPING WOLF (56-1796) (54-95- 0,88) of REDHORSE. GRAHAM demolished LOPING WOLF in a crowd pleasing 1 minute uneven duel. Which means never swim with crocs even if you're a wolf, because you should KNOW what will happen. WRATH OF ONE (82-11628) (10-2-0,79) of LUROCIANS XII fought RAVEN (71-3435) (17- 23-0,74) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS. WRATH OF ONE demolished RAVEN in a crowd pleasing 1 minute uneven conflict. I guess one must be enough. Imagine if there were TWO! CENTURION (71-3432) (18-13-1,70) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS fought TEXAS GLITTER (35- 3509) (20-7-0,64) of EXACTLY! CENTURION was overpowered by TEXAS GLITTER in a 1 minute one-sided brawl. I have a jar of glitter snow, and it defeats everything. It keeps oozing out of the jar, you see, and it gets everywhere and won't melt off. And Texas glitter would be even bigger and more of a mess, right? BRENDA (35-713) (13-11-1,44) of 22 ACACIA AVENUE fought ROSELLA (103-39) (26-25- 0,100) of Real Fun People. BRENDA handily defeated ROSELLA in a 1 minute mismatched melee. Which made Rosella not feel so much like having fun, but that's what happens in the arena. It's a hard life. This is the last fight, except that it was really the first, but it came last on the notes. I guess they do the notes backward or something, but that seems totally, you know, strange, but there it is. INNERVISION (15-4431) (20-4-0,83) of UNKNOWNS XX fought PSYCHOSIS (9-4650) (12-2-1,70) of DSM4. INNERVISION was demolished by PSYCHOSIS in an exciting 1 minute one-sided match. I guess there's something or other summitical about this, but I'm too tired to think of it. So I'll just say, you know, good night, and go away. Good night. Debby T. Ye looked verra good in the first minute, but your defense fell apart in the second. Ye might want to give that second minute strategy a bit of a reconsider. -- Lump o' Gore Moonracer -- Well, you were the only one who won against my team last turn, so that's a distinction. I don't think it's fair though, what you did, knocking my steel cap off and then hitting me on the head. I might do something like that, but a dwarf should have more honor. -- Kelos Why? Superior Forces -- Who had the style advantage there? I don't know which of our styles is supposed to beat the other. Anyway you're a really good avoider. You probably would've won if your blade hadn't broken. -- Mila Agro -- Ya got to learn to take a hit. I'm not a very sophisticated fighter and I'm not hard to beat, but you can't do it if you can't take some damage. Better work on that. -- Loping Wolf Debby Tonte -- Okey dokey.
