Various places in Zukal:

"There are warriors coming. Several of them from Free Blades, in fact," Kitala
the Bold, Lady Protector of Crysalis, reported. She picked with most comfortable
chair in the Blue Moon guildhouse's common room with an unerring instinct and settled
into it. "Maybe one or two from Crysalis, as well. Me, anyway. I'm getting bored
on the Isle."
"When?" Jorja asked. She didn't much like Kitala--they'd trained on the same
team in Lin Tirian years ago--but she could work with the woman. Kitala had a
deserved reputation for getting things done. Things no one else wanted to do, and by
Mantor's Shining Sword, dealing with Sekahos was not something Jorja wanted to do.
She hated politics. "The sooner we get started, the sooner we'll be done with it."
"Couple of weeks, probably," Kitala said after a moment's thought. "These
things don't happen all at once. People have to cancel their dental appointments,
sublet their apartments, find someone to walk their dogs, stuff like that. Some of
'em even consult their managers!" The Lubanese woman shook her head as at an
inexplicable marvel.

Ghenis crouched on a roof and looked down at soldiers marching through an alley.
They were some of Sekahos's men, heading for a brothel, not that it mattered. Any
soldiers would do for this test. When they were all in the alley and in his sight,
Ghenis clutched his talisman and muttered, "Stop these men, make them helpless to
prevent anything I would inflict on them in Your Name." Then he held his breath,
waiting to see if the Dark God of the cult would answer his request. If the Demongod
answered, then he would know that the cult was real, whatever fripperies Pelishtekan
dressed it in. And if there was no answer.... The gladiator bared his teeth in a
silent snarl. There was, somewhere, just such a Demongod. He knew it. And he would
find that Demongod and unleash it on the Ferencian and the others who would propose a
false cult, just for the money and power it gave them. Let all false prophets
beware!
                       *** ***** *** ***** ***
In the principal hall of Zukal's grandest palace, the man who was now calling
himself Prince Sekahos scowled at his advisors. "It's outrageous! Intolerable!
It--"
"It has happened, even so, Prince," Amar Yayoi said. He was the Prince's
battlemage and chief adviser. "Some fool among the benighted heathen of this land
has let loose a tribe of Old Ones, dregur as they are called here, against us. We
must re-bind--"
"Why can't we get them on our side?" the Prince demanded. "If these local
yokels bound them before, then the dregur must hate them even more than they hate us.
Why not form an alliance?"
"A novel idea," the mage said slowly, "but I would recommend against it. The
Old Ones are not noted for their willingness to accommodate to we who are the Younger
Peoples." He watched closely as Sekahos considered this and felt a sinking in the
pit of his stomach. His Prince was going to demand that the attempt be made. It
could lead to the deepest disaster, and even if an alliance successfully forged, it
could not be depended upon. The Old Ones were masters of that special treachery
which was produced by following agreements to the exact letter.
Whatever Sekahos might have said next was swept aside by the entry of Vilardet,
the Prince's master of spies and assassins. The dark-faced intriguer (he was half
Ferencian and half Kannar) sketched the formal sequences of bows and salutes and
plunged quickly into his report. "The assassin sent against Kinnishan of Chimlevtal
failed, Prince. Bad enough in itself, of course, but worse that it has alerted the
cursed Chimlevtans against further attempts." What Vilardet did not say, but Yayoi
knew quite well, was that the spymaster had argued against that precipitate action.
But he was wise enough not to say "I told you so," not to THIS prince.
"Kinnishan must die!" Sekahos shouted. "He's a reactionary! A cursed populist!
He is blocking my path of expansion, refusing to pay tribute, providing a base for my
enemies--"
"All this is true," Yayoi said calmly, "but there are other ways to slay a tiger
than by charging it with a spear."
"Let us set a trap for your enemy, Prince," Vilardet agreed. "Let us lead him
to destroy himself, and not only himself but those who would ally with him against
you."
"This would be a great coup," the mage urged, taking up the argument in his
turn. "Not only would your immediate enemies be removed, but their purpose in
opposing you would be so discredited that others will hesitate to rise against in the
future."
"And in the doing of it," Vilardet went on, "another danger might also be
reduced...if Kinnishan is brought to attack the Light of Barikala, for instance?"
Even Sekahos hesitated over that suggestion. Inzolas had dispatched men to take
Barikala early in the invasion. They had succeeded, but soon afterward had ceased to
communicate. Spies sent to that great island in the years since had never returned.
Ships passing too close to it had vanished without a trace. No one knew what,
precisely, was happening there. The only thing to be seen which might have a bearing
on the disappearances was a pillar of light, vast, brilliant, and unaccountable, that
rose from the center of the island. What that pillar meant, was, or did was unknown.
"Would he be such a fool?" the Prince asked finally.
The spymaster shrugged. "It doesn't matter. A situation can be contrived where
he has no CHOICE but to approach the Light. That, or lose his throne and his allies,
which would serve our purposes well enough."
There were several minutes of silence while all considered the possibilities.
"Do it," Sekahos said finally.

In and around Kurukar:

He who was now known as the Black Kaliv stood behind the altar, waiting. No
moon shone on Kurukar, nor had it since the Kaliv had come into his full power. But
there was something in the sky which gave a blood-colored light. The Kaliv said,
"Come."
A woman walked toward him through the icy night. She had been a gladiator once,
before the closing of Kurukar's arena. She was not afraid of pain and death. But
she was afraid now. Terrified, not for her life but for her soul. She would have
run screaming into the dark forest had the spell not bound her limbs to the Kaliv's
will. She would not have survived such a flight, for the men--the CREATURES--who
served the Black Kaliv were behind her. But it would have been a cleaner death.
She reached the altar and stopped, staring across it and awaiting the next
command.
     "Disrobe."
Fingers half numb with cold fumbled at the fibula holding the white cloth around
her. Like a winding sheet, it was. She willed her fingers to seize the clasp, to
drive the long fang of metal into her own flesh and end it all now. Her fingers
dropped the fibula onto the cloth at her feet.
She could sense the creatures close behind her. They were foul things, even the
one who was human. But she wished one of them--any one of them--would reach out and
take her life. Now. Before it was too late.
"Lie on the altar," the Kaliv said.
     She did so.
The four creatures came forward, and each of them seized one of her limbs,
holding her in place though she wasn't struggling. The Kaliv raised a dagger over
her; it burned red in the light of the not-moon in the sky. With a single word, he
released the spell that bound her limbs to his will.
     She screamed and fought.
     Until the dagger came down.
                       *** ***** *** ***** ***
Kholzern, Commander of the East for the Black Kaliv, stepped aboard his
flagship. He wore a form that was nearly human, but his sailors were not deceived.
They had seen Kholzern in the heat of battle, when he wasted no energy on such
disguises. But he always won those battles, so they accepted his alien origin, even
when it made their blood run cold. Not that they had a choice. Those who had
protested serving under Commander Kholzern had...vanished.
"North," Kholzern said, "then east through the canal to Aljafir Bay. Aljafir
and Stormcrowe must be subdued so that we may secure out outlet into the Storm Sea."
                       *** ***** *** ***** ***
Tashart, Commander of the West, was not at all human and made no effort to
disguise that fact. He gestured with a tentacle to the helmsman of his flagship.
"South," his piping voice ordered. "All shipping which does not bear the standard of
Jhuizkhal is to be destroyed. Three ships to blockade the mouth of North Fork's
river, the rest to invest Veastian. Not a ship shall move along this coast without
my leave."

                           Reflections by the Lord-Marshall

Hail, Free Blades!

Well, another turn down and I am still here. My challenges failed and no one
seems to have been willing to challenge me! Come on, guys, get a backbone! Okay, I
will again be challenging the top two recognition warriors in this arena and not
avoiding anyone else! Flee if you must but I would like to see someone step up and
challenge me! I will try not to kill anyone. Even if I do, it isn't forever anyway!
Sure, it will hurt...a lot! :)

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

It's cold! But there isn't any, you know, snow. So no skiing. Or ice skating.
And it's too cold to go to the beach, even with an umbrella. I don't like this and I
want it to either get nice and warm and, like, sunny, or else snow properly. Or
else! I am just totally upset about this.
Meanwhile, we had fights here. Again. Don't you do anything but fight fight
fight? I mean, how about a party instead? And I could give a report about who
danced with whom, and, you know, what everybody wore, and stuff like that. Oh, well,
SHE probably wouldn't like that. She doesn't do parties, you know.

Blackest Pride was most avoided by Darkmoon. Nobody said why.
Tempest got the most challenges and Snide thinks his ego will swell, but what
does Snide know? I mean, Tempest could always put a cold compress on it, couldn't
he?
We had forty fights, which is a very square number. Nineteen challenges, one TV
and the rest radio. I think maybe two standbys fought.
Two warriors actually DIED, which is, like, a totally cold blanket. Of course,
you wouldn't have a warm blanket right now anyway.
The longest fight was seven minutes, which isn't hardly trying.

MONTY (29-4391) (14-18-3,63) of CROC FILES fought SCHIZOPHRENIC (9-4595) (15-8-
1,55) of DSM4. MONTY slimly lost to SCHIZOPHRENIC in a 2 minute conflict. I've
heard about schizophernic types. Isn't that where two can eat as cheaply as one?
Or, you know, something like that.
RAVEN (71-3435) (21-24-0,100) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS fought BIMSKALABIM (19-1842)
(14-7-1,70) of LETS GO BOWLING. RAVEN was bested by BIMSKALABIM in a crowd pleasing
1 minute match. Bowling? Does this mean that Raven got hit by a bowling ball? Or
just a, like, bowl of chili, or, you know, a ski bowl, or I don't know what. Was
there a knockdown? That's supposed to be good, isn't it?
     BLACKMYTH (11-4018) (62-37-1,100) of SHADOWS fought CENTURION (71-3432) (20-16-
1,81) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS. BLACKMYTH was savagely defeated by CENTURION in a 2
minute gruesome duel. I couldn't watch! There were, like, HUNDREDS of them out
there! It was too much!
SUNGOD DESIGNED ME (43-4270) (21-3-0,93) of WENSINWASIN fought BEER (71-3539)
(20-27-0,62) of STUFF I BROUGHT. SUNGOD DESIGNED ME handily defeated BEER in a
popular 1 minute one-sided duel. All gladiators can defeat beer. I mean, this isn't
news. But could Sungod Design... a sunny day? I wouldn't mind. As if!
OSIRIS (19-4111) (26-17-1,95) of ANARCHY fought LOPING WOLF (56-1796) (56-98-
0,90) of REDHORSE. OSIRIS executed LOPING WOLF in a 1 minute one-sided competition.
Wow! I guess there's no Wolf at Osiris's door, is there? Except maybe a wolfskin
rug. I don't know if wolfskins make really good rugs, but why not? They have fur.
SUPERIOR FORCES (33-4543) (59-92-2,132) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY fought HELYSE
(103-36) (45-35-5,165) of Some Other People. SUPERIOR FORCES was overpowered by
HELYSE in a 1 minute uneven bout. This always makes the standbys happy when they
win. Especially Helyse, because of not getting to keep skills and wins on her
record, but at least people see her winning and she likes it. I mean, who wouldn't?
VENRIC (60-5709) (26-24-0,120) of DEMONS OF DARKNESS 2 fought JOELEAN (97-903)
(18-16-4,98) of IVER'S GIRLS. VENRIC outwaited JOELEAN in an action packed 7 minute
match. This was our longest fight. Okay, so maybe if the seven mintues were
actually ALL of them action packed, they were trying. But I don't mean, you know,
standing around telling funny stories to each other that we can't hear in the stands!
NIGHTIE KNIGHT (12-4731) (44-34-1,173) of LOBOTOMATION fought REDFOX (13-4197)
(46-64-0,144) of CARDOW HUNTERS. NIGHTIE KNIGHT defeated REDFOX in an exciting 1
minute match. I knew Redfox couldn't keep on winning. It some kind of Law of
Nachos. Like, make sure there's plenty of cheese. And, don't forget the jalapenos.
Stuff like that.
RILLION (36-5545) (33-20-1,174) of THE CHADS fought SAVAGE SAGE (17-4022) (25-
25-0,150) of IMMORTAL ASYLUM. RILLION was subdued by SAVAGE SAGE in an exciting 1
minute gruesome struggle. Is a Savage Sage like a Noble Savage? Or is it, like,
"with onions"? Is bloody confetti gruesome? Or what?
JULIUS (64-3641) (69-80-2,190) of UNDER DURESS fought KELOS (55-30) (56-84-
3,151) of ROCANIS RIDERS. JULIUS vanquished KELOS in an exciting 1 minute mismatched
fight. I SAW, because I was RIGHT THERE, Julius totally duressed Kelos. Under AND
over.
MOONJUMPER (16-3062) (61-92-1,206) of PUNNY AMINALS fought MIMR (82-3783) (51-
38-2,199) of SOL INVICTUS. MOONJUMPER was overcome by MIMR in a crowd pleasing 2
minute match. Is this something or other? I mean, they meet a lot. On the sands.
But maybe off the sands, too. Or is it just, like, cow indent sense? I never knew
cows had sense. My mother's cow doesn't have sense. As if!
XERXES (67-2429) (46-40-2,183) of MISSION IMPLAUSIBLE fought FUNNY BUNNY (55-
1862) (86-122-1,192) of RHYME TYME. XERXES savagely defeated FUNNY BUNNY in a 2
minute gory bout. Some people just can't, you know, take a joke.
ELVIS (7-612) (33-20-0,197) of THE ROCKERS fought NEBUCHADNEZZAR (22-5821) (25-
17-0,165) of BLADES OF WONDER. ELVIS was savagely defeated by NEBUCHADNEZZAR in a
popular 3 minute gory match. This is because there are, like, TWO Nebuchadnezzars,
and they confuse things and sometimes maybe both of them are out there on the sands,
or neither one, or, you know, who knows?
GREW SOME SHREW (16-4135) (47-42-2,191) of HELPLESS ANIMALS fought
NEBUCHADNEZZER (15-4097) (43-32-0,195) of GRAVEYARD GLORY. GREW SOME SHREW was
savagely defeated by NEBUCHADNEZZER in a 2 minute duel. And this is the other one.
Both of them savagely defeating. That just SHOWS.
BLADE RUNNER # (33-4544) (89-62-4,191) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY fought
CEILINGBANGER (9-2352) (22-10-1,202) of THE LIMBO MANIACS. BLADE RUNNER #
slaughtered CEILINGBANGER in a 1 minute one-sided bout. And this is the other death,
which Blade Runner is doing totally too much of this even if it is on the Isle where
you can get resurrected. I mean, who wants to die and have to be resurrected all the
time?
RAVEN EYES (12-2709) (69-84-0,201) of SWEET MAGIC fought GNU WORLD ORDER (16-
3948) (62-59-3,194) of HELPLESS ANIMALS. RAVEN EYES handily defeated GNU WORLD ORDER
in an exciting 2 minute bloody uneven bout. Does this mean we have to keep the old
order, or is it just, you know, impalas and chevys, and no gnus. They say no gnus is
good gnus, but how can you tell?
KOOSH BALL (71-3536) (40-30-0,206) of STUFF I BROUGHT fought DREHVIN (103-34)
(75-45-7,200) of Some Other People. KOOSH BALL savagely defeated DREHVIN in an
exciting 3 minute gruesome melee. Well, maybe SOME people were excited, but Drehvin
is very upset about this. Totally upset, even. He doesn't like, you know, grue.
FUT COUGH (17-4815) (35-12-0,196) of IMMORTAL ASYLUM fought MOONRACER (50-3206)
(37-37-1,173) of MISFIT TOYS. FUT COUGH won victory over MOONRACER in a 2 minute
gory fight. I don't understand about foots that cough. Could someone, like, explain
this?
HAYSEED X-IV (82-6120) (23-13-2,227) of PROJECT HAYSEED fought HEL (82-14331)
(35-31-0,194) of ARCTIC GUARDS. HAYSEED X-IV overpowered HEL in a popular 1 minute
one-sided duel. I heard about Hayseed getting all theosophical, but I didn't know it
had come to, you know, this!
CHAOS LICH (15-4132) (43-31-0,215) of GRAVEYARD GLORY fought ROYLAND (56-3380)
(62-46-0,196) of REDHORSE. CHAOS LICH was overpowered by ROYLAND in a 1 minute one-
sided match. Just plain old mean, that's Royland. I mean, here's this lich, which
he must be really old, you know? And young people are supposed to be polite to older
people. Emma said that, and I knew it anyway because people are always saying it.
But was Royland polite? As if!
     PARANOIA (9-4557) (20-5-1,222) of DSM4 fought TYVIN (60-5382) (48-40-1,218) of
DEMONS OF DARKNESS 2. PARANOIA was overpowered by TYVIN in an action packed 2 minute
bloody uneven fray. Which just PROVES that everyone is out to GET Paranoia. But we
all knew that. I mean, people have probably told him and TOLD him about it.

     And the challenge matchs:
WEDNESDAY (16-5254) (14-9-2,44) of THE DARK TIDES challenged SHADOW HAWK (71-
3038) (16-29-2,76) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS. Up 32. WEDNESDAY was devastated by SHADOW
HAWK in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge bout. Which is, like, totally expected,
right? But you have to start somewhere, and I always HEARD that you have to start at
the bottom. Which is okay, except for being so very, you know, like a foundation or
something.
TEXAS GLITTER (35-3509) (23-9-0,82) of EXACTLY! challenged AGRO (29-4314) (26-
34-1,88) of CROC FILES. Up 6. TEXAS GLITTER overcame AGRO in a 2 minute Challenge
competition. Wow! Glittery Croc-skin boots! That is, like, TOTALLY Texas.
DOC HOLIDAY (12-2956) (15-10-1,66) of THE LAWMEN challenged GOLDIE (29-4395)
(15-15-1,68) of CROC FILES. Up 2. DOC HOLIDAY was beaten by GOLDIE in a 2 minute
Challenge fight. I didn't know warriors were allowed to bite each other. In the
arena, I mean. Is that a new tactic?
AVARICIOUS AVON (63-2388) (24-22-0,148) of TOMATO ENFORCER challenged CRYPT
KEEPER (15-4146) (37-25-1,164) of GRAVEYARD GLORY. Up 16. AVARICIOUS AVON was
overpowered by CRYPT KEEPER in a 1 minute Challenge match. Because of pilfering in
the Crypt. *I* know, even if SOME people make excuses and say it was something else.
I mean, it isn't like there were any TOMATOES in the Crypt. Tomatoes aren't cryptic.
GRAHAM (29-4318) (30-27-0,102) of CROC FILES challenged TESEN (12-4211) (39-43-
1,139) of DEMONS OF DARKNESS. Up 37. GRAHAM was devastated by TESEN in a popular 1
minute mismatched Challenge brawl. This is, you know, one of those things the golems
talk about. Like, is it guts or just being dumb? You know? Maybe it's going for,
like, skills.
JUDGE DREDD (12-1930) (32-18-0,122) of THE LAWMEN challenged SANDY (1-6821) (22-
37-1,124) of HOMICIDAL MANIACS. Up 2. JUDGE DREDD vanquished SANDY in a 3 minute
one-sided Challenge fray. Because of Lawmen not liking homicides? Or just something
else that I don't know about?
SAMPSA (31-4233) (24-9-2,137) of SOL INVICTUS challenged OURS ROUGE (3-6049)
(22-25-1,151) of THE REDBAERS. Up 14. SAMPSA was overpowered by OURS ROUGE in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge duel. Bear-hugged, even. Some people sneeze. Because of
the fur and, you know, stuff. Animal hair.
WYATT EARP (12-2168) (23-9-1,164) of THE LAWMEN challenged MILA (55-29) (56-89-
0,165) of ROCANIS RIDERS. Up 1. WYATT EARP was viciously subdued by MILA in a crowd
pleasing 6 minute Challenge bout. Gosh! I mean, that just SHOWS that Mila's still a
caravan raider. Because of them not liking Lawmen, and all.
     PANIC ATTACK (9-3624) (28-19-1,176) of DSM4 challenged MADBULL (13-4198) (52-86-
1,173) of CARDOW HUNTERS. Down 3. PANIC ATTACK devastated MADBULL in an exciting 1
minute mismatched Challenge conflict. People do this a lot, and Madbull just keeps
getting madder. And, you know, crazy, too.
CALAMITY JANE (12-1867) (30-21-0,195) of THE LAWMEN challenged BANKRUPT (71-
3786) (43-25-0,196) of SHADOW GOLD. Up 1. CALAMITY JANE was savagely defeated by
BANKRUPT in a 6 minute Challenge fight. It's the gambling. You know. Losing at
cards and things. Lots of people do it, and then they're defeated by Bankrupt.
DARK OMEGA (21-4983) (44-50-0,195) of LORDS OF SHADOWS challenged HOUSE MOUSE
(55-221) (111-176-2,195) of RHYME TYME. Straight across. DARK OMEGA vanquished
HOUSE MOUSE in an exciting 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. Because of Dark Omega
being a really, really big cat.
LIMA BEAN FLAMBE (70-3118) (33-25-0,185) of HEAVE HO! challenged SMUG BUG (55-
2900) (39-64-0,193) of RHYME TYME. Up 8. LIMA BEAN FLAMBE won victory over SMUG BUG
in a 3 minute Challenge fight. This is Fried Bug now, like candles. Bugs always do
that. Fly into fires, I mean. Why be smug about that?
BLACK ANDARUS (71-3783) (23-19-1,198) of SHADOW MOD challenged TEMPEST (4-4503)
(29-19-1,201) of STORM FRONT. Up 3. BLACK ANDARUS lost to TEMPEST in a 2 minute
Challenge duel. Tempest was most challenged, remember? I don't know why. I guess
somebody had to be.
BEAG MAGDA (12-4380) (46-30-2,188) of DARKMOON challenged LUMP O'GORE (13-1212)
(91-84-5,188) of ILLFANG PACT. Straight across. BEAG MAGDA devastated LUMP O'GORE
in a 2 minute one-sided Challenge competition. I think we had something like this
before. Lots of little lumps of gore all over the arena. Very messy. Messy is,
like, totally, well, messy.
WOUNDWORT (12-4228) (49-35-0,209) of DARKMOON challenged TRYURLUCK (61-1029)
(53-47-1,209) of BLOOD KNIGHTS. Straight across. WOUNDWORT viciously subdued
TRYURLUCK in a crowd pleasing 3 minute Challenge fight. So whose luck was tried?
And, you know, just "luck" could be good OR bad. You have to be pacific about these
things.
KREWKUT SAUSAGE (65-6327) (14-22-0,235) of LINCOLNSHIRE challenged FRAIL WHALE
(55-1968) (105-156-3,230) of RHYME TYME. Down 5. KREWKUT SAUSAGE overpowered FRAIL
WHALE in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. I think a Mohawk sausage would be
more interesting, but nobody asked me.
SHEA MAGEBORN (75-2273) (35-31-1,356) of SHADOWCIRCLE challenged GROGGY DOGGY
(55-223) (118-174-0,214) of RHYME TYME. Down 142. SHEA MAGEBORN was viciously
subdued by GROGGY DOGGY in a 4 minute Challenge brawl. I think these extra-high
recognitions are because of going to the Gate and fighting monsters. I don't know if
they'll go away or not. We'll just have to see, won't we?
CREED (64-3997) (72-46-0,234) of GROOVE MERCHANTS challenged DR. SCUM (15-1968)
(56-48-2,552) of DRAKE'S BAR-B-Q. Up bunches! Um, 318? Something like that. CREED
was demolished by DR. SCUM in a popular 1 minute one-sided Challenge melee. But in
one minute, it can't be, you know, scummy. Everybody says that. Really scummy
fights last for a long, long time.

     And for Lord Marshall: E.A.POLECAT (15-2644) (56-29-4,549) of DRAKE'S BAR-B-Q
TV challenged SETHRA LAVODE (71-4060) (30-5-0,322) of CASTLE BLACK. Down 227.
E.A.POLECAT was bested by SETHRA LAVODE in a 2 minute Challenge Title fight.
Congratulations to Edgar Allen Polecat for having a TV. And to Sethra Levode for
being Lord Marshall still.

                                        Debby T.

                               PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE

Sethra -- Funny that you got a match-up. You wouldn't be ducking me would you?
After all, I believe I'm the last warrior to beat (as in smack that ass) you in the
arena, aren't I? Instead of wasting your TV challenge on a TP that doesn't want
anything to do with you, why don't you step up and show me how much better you got
over the past couple of tournaments? -- Desecration

Lima Bean Flambe -- Oh, that's just peachy. Like you really needed to noticeably
improve your fighting coordination. -- Mila

Everybody needs to! It's obligary. Because of Primus.

Blackmyth -- You were too strong already. Personally, I think you need to cut down
on the protein and take more naps. -- Loping Wolf

Sethra Lavode -- Remind your manager to change your train. And you might want to try
a different weapon, that one is too sharp. -- Royland
P.S. Whoa! That was a title fight! And you said you were going to TV challenge Dr.
Scum. What happened?

Dr. Scum -- Ye didn't live down to your name, curse ye! Had ye circled warily and
conserved energy, I'd easily have trounced ye. I recommend this training program for
the future: A nice fruit pie with whipped cream for breakfast, then a bit of a rest,
a gentle stroll around the guildhouse, then a cake for lunch washed down with some
soothing chamomile tea, then at least three hours of meditation on the subject of
stillness and conservation, then dinner, then perhaps a nice relaxing carriage ride
to a pacifist discussion group, and then a good night's sleep. Doesn't that sound
nice? Follow that lifestyle and in no time you'll be fulfilling the promise of your
name. -- Lump o' Gore

Beag Magda -- Didn't. -- Lump o' Gore

Madbull -- I don't like you. I know all about you and I do not approve of you.
We'll meet again and it won't go so well for you. -- Kelos

Goldie -- I've been trying to learn that one skill for like 10 turns now. Thanks! I
could have done without the loss though, but Quid Pro Quo I guess. -- Wednesday

All -- I know I still have a while yet but will they tell you when you max out? --
Diaretic the curious!
P.S. When should I use my favorite rhythm?

     When they're playing your song?

Diaretic -- Well met and welcome to ADM. -- Bobby Bigfoot, mgr. Darkmoon, etc.

Moonjumper -- Well, they'd best not be! -- Beag Magda

Redfox -- I appreciate the thought, but no skills were learned. I seem to have a
mental block preventing me from learning defensive routines. -- Sampsa
P.S. No skills were learned by you either, in case your results remain lost.

Moonjumper -- Most non-dwarves say that I'm too serious. I say to them that there's
time enough for having an ale and a laugh after the work's all done. After a long
day's fighting, training, or adventuring, I'm keen on sharing an ale and a tale, or,
if the company is just right, something more cozy...does that not sound fun? -- Mimr

Scribe -- I work on that descriptive info and try to diplo it next cycle. I hope
that's timely enough. -- Bobby Bigfoot

Whenever it gets here is the right time. -- the Scribe

Shea Mageborn -- You fought like one worthy of the title Lord Protector. Wondrously
well done, sir. I did have you in a spot o' trouble for a moment, so naturally, I'll
be thinking on the next time we meet. -- Mimr

Nebuchadnezzar of Blades of Wonder -- You stole that fight from me most skillfully.
Could your skills be maxed already? -- Sampsa

Nebuchadnezzar of Graveyard Glory -- Looks like we're evenly matched, no? --
Woundwort

Chaos Lich -- Blast it! Knocked down, aarggh! -- Beag Magda

Panic Attack -- Not TODAY. I have other fish to fry, and quickly, too. Sorry,
nothing personal. -- Raven Eyes

Samoo -- Watch it, boy! You don't want to get between me and the Imposter. I've got
something to GIVE to her. -- Sandy of Homicidal Maniacs

Dark Omega -- Well fought, but you were over-matched that time. -- Moonjumper

Kelos -- (snort, trample, gore, gouge, roar) -- Madbull

Kelos -- I think it's the funny hat. -- Redfox

Venric -- Thank you. That was a wonderful way to face the new year, or what's left
of it. May I win more to go with it. -- Redfox
P.S. And when you fight other people, may you win lots, too. I don't mind sharing
the wins, so long as I don't get too many losses to go with 'em.

Mimr -- I couldn't say, I'm not terribly clear on the new classifications. But if my
memory serves me (debatable today), I think I was classed eligible at the last Split.
-- Moonjumper

Sampsa -- Damn straight. But my momma raised me to be polite, so what can I do? --
Redfox

Diaretic -- Any place I don't have a team? Hmm, that's a tough question. I'm not
active in Zuwayza and Niatoli Island, but I do have teams in all the Free Blades
arenas. And, of course, in the other regions, I give way to other managers in my
over-seer's stable of managers. -- Jorja
P.S. As for "helping out," got anyone who wants to be in an adventure--just in the
story, it has no effect on the arena.

Though sometimes the arena may have an effect on the adventure.... -- Ed.

ZalCon2 Updates (1/9/04)

The contest will be starting on the turn due February 23rd, 2004 and run for 20
turns.
Only one team will be allowed for each manager in the contest, regardless of
whether additional teams are announced as contest entries. No exceptions for any
reason.
The Style Master points should read that there is +1 point for beating a member
of your own style even if the warrior is not registered for the contest.
Rolling points for consecutive turns as Style Master means that your warrior
gets the extra point every turn after the first 3 that he continues to hold the
title.
The points for Quality Wins should be clarified to read the winning warrior is
ranked below by the number of recognition points needed for each bonus point at the
start of the fight. For example, Warrior A (3-2-0, 17) beats Warrior B (4-1-0, 35)
and receives 2 bonus points under Quality Win for the 18 point difference in the
ranking.
I believe that is all the clarifications for the moment, please feel free to
email, diplo, call or write me with any other questions or concerns about the
contest.

                                    CHAOTIC WINDS
Once, long ago, the four Winds of Time descended upon Alastari like a TEMPEST of
epic proportions, they slew everything within their all-encompassing reach. They
left nothing. In their wake lay smoldering ruins.
In their haste they sped towards the center of this great land like a colossal
giant would step across an ocean. The four storms picked up momentum on their way
towards each other. A collision was eminent.
The first storm wind, the oldest and wisest of the four was named APEXALUS. The
second, FLAGGSTAFF, was the quickest and loudest entity ever created. The third Wind
of Time was MATRIATIN, neither old or young, quick or slow, but fierce and feisty all
the same. The forth wind, ASSAMITHIUS, the youngest yet most creative in its means
of destruction.
When finally they merged at the center of ALASTARI, an incredible destructive
explosion occurred. And when the smoke and debris cleared they were one. CHAOS was
born.
And Chaos spread across the diminished lands reeking havoc and doom with its
passing, and destroying allover again that which already lay in ruin.

All -- I send out this invitation to all teams and managers. A new Alliance has been
formed. The Living Essences Alliance is being formed to join forces in an effort to
eliminate common foes and to help the joined warriors grow and learn to the best of
their abilities by offering suggestions and advice. It doesn't matter what arena
you're in, or if you're in another alliance already, as of today. This Alliance is
open to one and all! If you are interested in joining, please DIPLO me, or send a
personal ad to DM 93's newsletter. If you wish to join beyond March 2004, send a PA
to DM 82. Come join the fun! -- Dagan LifeGiver, mgr. Shadow Warriors (DM 93)

28 January 2004
This notice is to formally introduce our young alliance, CHAOS INC. We consist of
APEX, FLAGG, MATRIX, ASSAMITE, and now RUDE BUDDHA. If we aren't already there, we
WILL be coming to an arena near you soon! Hope to see you all at the ZALCON II.

4 February 2004
Greeting from Jhans, DM 36 -- In 2 turns the kLk will host our first annual "St.

There will be 3 separate categories, the team with the most kills, the alliance with
the most kills, and the warrior with the most kills. For the manager of the team
with the most kills a PRIZE of 10 ROLL-UPS will be rewarded (or $50 deposited into
his account). No need to declare yourself in the personals. If you are in DM 36,
you will be part of the contest whether you like it or not. We encourage as much
trash talk as you'd like. All teams, managers, and alliances invited. Please
contact Polarius (mgr. of Blitzkrieg) in DM 36 with questions. Or you can email me
at jamieptmo@hotmail.com. Good luck and see you in the sands. -- Polarius
