Reflections by the Lord-Marshall
I am sure that most of you have forgotten that the Lord Marshall gets the honor of
addressing you each before the fights. But since Rillion has very publicly derided
various managers in the past for not making sure their warriors do so, I figured it
would be best if I fulfilled my duties as Lord Marshall properly. My ascent to the
Marshallship took me by surprise. I had been so preoccupied in my own training
regimen that I forgot the "split" was taking place and that there would be a turnover
in the warriors at the top of the ranks. I shall endeavor to retain this position
while I prepare myself for an eventual run in the Eligibles tournament. I am very
saddened though that Shadowgate's warriors will not be here trying to take the title
away from me. I always admired how hard he had his warriors striving to always
control the Lord Marshall title and that competition will be missed now that I have
managed to get to the top.
I won't comment in depth about the situation that led to the absence of his warriors
except to say that the whole thing is unfortunate. It is unfortunate that an
illegitimate clone helped LHI win the Freshman tournament, it is unfortunate that the
commission did not resolve it in a way that upheld the integrity of our tournaments,
and it is unfortunate that Shadowgate and others let their bitterness of this
incident overwhelm the enjoyment that our contests provide us.
So now we return to our dueling, our arena diminished somewhat but still vibrant and
competitive.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Hello, Sports Fans, this is Biff Bunkum with the NEWS!
And what's in the News today? Free Blades! Ms. Tonte has been delayed by
something or other, so I am here to give you the NEWS!
Let's look at the balance of warriors here in Free Blades today. It is NOT
balanced, Sports Fans. There are more than twice as many lungers as the next most
common style today! I thought I'd strayed into Darkholm! Twenty-three lungers went
twelve-eleven today, with a fifty-six percent wins over the past ten turns. Not bad,
but not the best showing here today. Hel of Dwes Eg is the top-ranked lunger,
managed by Yukon, I believe.
Strikers are the next most common, with a mere ten warriors active today. They
went four-six on the sands today, nothing to boast about! And their ten-turn win
percentage of forty-five is a poor thing. Moonjumper of Willaf is the top-ranked
striker, managed by Jorja.
Nine slashers fought today, their five-four showing hinting at an improvement
over the thirty-nine percent wins of the last ten turns. The Madness of Sunset is
the top-ranked slasher. Sylvester Frothingslosh is the manager of this insane
slicer.
For the real slice-and-dice, we have eight walls of steel, forty-four percent
wins over the long haul but an encouraging 5-3 today. Ali Gator of Niatoli Island,
home of the striped ice cream so loved by Ms. Tonte, is the master or mistress (as
the case may be) of slice and dice, managed by Drake.
Parry-lungers are next on the list, only four of the fellows, and not doing as
well as they should. Forty-six percent wins over ten turns, but a slight improvement
today with a two-two performance. Mimr of Dwes Eg is the high-ranked p-lunger, and
his manager is Bobby Bigfoot.
Our three aimed blows at least have managed fifty-one percent wins over ten
turns, but only went one-two today. I guess they gave it the old "one-two," eh?
Nebuchadnezzar of Solven, managed by I'm-not-sure-who, is the high-ranked aimed blow
on the sands today.
Three total parries, led by high-ranked Dr. Scum of Malcorn (Drake managing)
also went one-two today. Their fifty-six percent over ten turns is somewhat better,
so we can hope they'll pull up their socks before they trip on the filthy things and
improve their performance.
Parry-strikers, a much under-appreciated style, had only two representatives on
the sands today, and their oh-two performance will do little to improve the
reputation of their style. Of course, with fifty-seven percent wins over the last
ten turns, we could perhaps put this down to a "bad hair day." Frail Whale of
Khalani, managed by, er, Emerald Orbs? topped the ranks in this style.
A single parry-riposte has done very well here, going seven-three in the last
ten turns and winning today. This is the best record of any style today and is held
by Wyatt Earp of Riztab, whose manager's name is unfortunately unknown to me, or I
would congratulate him.
Last and least, our lone basher has the lowest ten-turn record going, twenty-
five percent wins, despite winning today's match. House Mouse, also of Khalani and a
teammate of the Whale, is the sole active representative of this style here today.
In the top eleven warriors, we have no fewer than seven lungers. Darkholm
beware! Look to your records. There are also two parry-lungers, a striker, and an
aimed blow. How long will it be till the total parries come pouring in, Sports Fans?
Forty warriors of the Free Cities fought today, going 22-18-0. Riztab and
Khalani were tied for highest number of active warriors and most wins, at 4-3-0 each.
Moonjumper of Willaf was top-ranked in this category.
Eleven warriors from the Delarquan Federation fought here today, going 4-7-0.
The most warriors, and all the wins, came from Sunset at 4-0-0. Desecration of
Sunset was the leading Delarquan.
Six Andorians went 2-4-0 today, no more impressive than the over-all Delarquan
showing. Aradi and Solven were tied in number of warriors active: two each. Tyvin
of Aradi was the high-ranked Andorian.
Five warriors from transfer arenas fought today, going 3-2-0. Hel of Dwes Eg
topped the list.
Lirith Kai sent one warrior, Krewcut Sausage of Dal Shang, and the less said
about his performance today, the better.
The Bloodgames arenas were ably represented by Small Rooms of Shadow Grove.
Blackest Pride avoided Demons of Darkness 2. One presumes they had cause.
Moonjumper got the most challenges, though I have no idea how many that is.
The overall popularity leader is GROGGY DOGGY of Khalani. The most popular
warrior this turn was LOKI of Kyr'Terr. The least popular fighter this week was DOC
HOLIDAY of Riztab.
There were thirty-two fights, sixteen of them being challenge matches. No
standbys fought, Sports Fans! Nobody died. The longest fight was seven minutes,
which isn't much, if you ask me.

TEN TURNS OF HELL:
The KLK Capture The Flag Competition
In the spirit of the ongoing effort to make arena play what it used to be (FUN!!), I
am proud to announce the KLK Capture The Flag Competition. The competition will be
held in Jhans (DM-36, which has, by the way, grown in size equal to Talcama already).
:) We are announcing this contest early to allow managers time to prep.
Rules:
-- On turn 462 (due 8/4/04) the lowest ranked warrior on your team is given your
team's 'flag' (he is your initial flag defender).
-- Starting on turn 463 (due 8/18/04) flags will be defended every turn and turn
463 is the turn scoring will begin.
-- Fights involving flags are winners-take-all and a warrior can carry as many
flags as he can win.
-- If a warrior holding a flag either A) goes inactive, B) loses to a stand-by
warrior or C) gets DA'd, he forfeits all flags he has and they are returned the their
original team's lowest ranked warrior.
-- If you hold your own flag on an inactive warrior you receive NO POINTS that
turn.
-- If a warrior graduates to AD holding flags starting on the next turn those
flags will be defended by the lowest ranked warrior on the team of the graduating
warrior.
-- Scoring as follows for each turn:
2 pts -- possession of your own team flag
1 pt -- possession any other flag
1 pt -- for each win
1 pt -- for each kill
1 pt -- for each award you receive in the newsletter
-- You may enter as many teams as you like (per RSI rules) but each team is its
own entry.
-- Tie-Breaker goes to the team that had the most points from flags.
-- If still tied the tie-breaker will be the team that had the most points from
kills. (It's the Delarq way.)
-- The contest lasts 10 turns and there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
(based on highest point totals)

1st -- 3 know favorites potions*
DA warrior named after winning manager
2nd -- 2 know favorites potions*
3rd -- 1 know favorites potion*
* These are full favorite potions (weapon, rhythms and tactics) and can only be used
on warriors with at least 4 FE.
How's that for paying out? (grin) Even if you think that it's all about the TC,
these prizes should be enough to draw you in. (You know who you are.)
I hope to see friend and foe alike come to Jhans. Legion, Froths, and all the
others...this is your personal invite. Can you win? Can you survive 10 turns of
Hell in Jhans?
