Reflections by the Lord-Marshall
Hail, Free Blades!
I am excited to be on top again at this time of the year with the upcoming
tournament, and the holiday/sabbath of Halloween/Samhain. My own tournament
prospects were shot down when apparently my training regiment was over-exuberant,
which shot me past the eligibles up to the contenders, which also means that my days
here are numbered.
Because of his comment, I'll be T.V. challenging Severus Snape to see if my
training has given me an edge on him. May the best one win. After that, I'd love to
have the Marshallship over Halloween, but we'll all have to see if I can make that
happen. Whatever the case, it has been a truly rewarding experience to fight here in
Free Blades.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Gosh, it's cold! It's too cold for tanning even with the sun shinging, which is
totally unfair. If it's going to be cold, there should be snow. I know my skis are
around here somewhere....
Well, we had some more fights. I think we should all go to the beach instead of
fighting, except it's too cold now so we should do it in the summer. Or else get an
indoor beach.
Here's what the notes say:
Blackest Pride was avoided by Darkmoon. The moon is dark right now. Does that
make a difference?
Mimr got the most challenges, but nobody said how many. I guess it doesn't, you
know, matter, since he can only accept one of them.
We only had twenty-eight fights, which is not enough. I mean, I don't want you
guys fighting all the time, but still, we should have more fights than the other
regionals. It would make them mad. Only seven challenges, but four tv and only
three of them radio. Is everybody holding back because of the tourney coming up?
And out of twenty-eight fights, NOTHING was longer than three minutes. You should
take your time and do things right, you know? Because in three minutes, that's
hardly time to get started on a sandwich, or slip down to powder my, you know, nose,
or anything! And two people died, which is too bad. It always looks bad to have
people carried out dead, unless it's Darkholm, and it isn't. So listen, everybody,
try not to die next time!
U.S. STEEL (49-3369) (21-22-0,62) of THE BONDS fought T-BONE (13-3139) (19-6-
0,63) of LEGION OF DUMB. U.S. STEEL was overpowered by T-BONE in a popular 1 minute
brutal one-sided match. So who's dumb, then, if the Bond guy can't win? I mean, T-
Bone doesn't have any experience, even! But I like mine boneless anyway.
LOPING WOLF (56-1796) (64-108-0,83) of REDHORSE fought LULU (32-3523) (24-34-
1,52) of FISHERMAN'S WHARF. LOPING WOLF won victory over LULU in a popular 1 minute
fray. This is, like, totally surprising? It just goes to SHOW how mean Loping Wolf
is, the way he, like, takes advantage.
PLACES THE LOTION... (98-909) (7-7-5,34) of ARCANE BEACH DAY fought BEER (71-
3539) (28-37-0,79) of STUFF I BROUGHT. PLACES THE LOTION... was overpowered by BEER
in a 1 minute one-sided fight. Everything is overpowered by beer. I notice things
like that, you know. It happens a lot on beaches.
WHITEWING (13-4346) (23-38-0,97) of CARDOW HUNTERS fought FLESH RIPPER (74-3375)
(15-7-1,89) of LUROCIANS XI. WHITEWING was overpowered by FLESH RIPPER in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided fray. And had his wings ripped off? I mean, you'd have
to get past the wings first, wouldn't you?
ARAC IRONFIST (67-1944) (22-10-0,131) of RAZOR GRACE fought HELYSE (103-36) (45-
35-5,165) of College of Mimes. ARAC IRONFIST was viciously subdued by HELYSE in an
action packed 2 minute bout. See? Everybody says Helyse is the best mime on the
Isle. Except she isn't a REAL mime, because I heard her talk last week. She ordered
pickles.
SMUG BUG (55-2900) (42-79-0,135) of RHYME TYME fought TIGRESS (13-4471) (30-32-
0,106) of CARDOW HUNTERS. SMUG BUG vanquished TIGRESS in an exciting 1 minute one-
sided fight. I hate that Bug, you know? Because of the smugness. Nobody likes
smugness. It's as bad as, you know, smarmness. And if they're smarmy and smug,
they're smurfs, and that's worst of all.
REDFOX (13-4197) (53-75-0,131) of CARDOW HUNTERS fought THE SICKNESS (21-5327)
(22-8-1,100) of BLACKEST PRIDE. REDFOX was vanquished by THE SICKNESS in a 1 minute
one-sided match. That's what happens when you don't take your flu shots. The
Infirmary has them. One of the clerks told me.
NEBUCHADNEZZAR (22-5821) (31-26-0,177) of BLADES OF WONDER fought SUNGOD
DESIGNED ME (43-4270) (25-6-0,147) of WENSINWASIN. NEBUCHADNEZZAR subdued SUNGOD
DESIGNED ME in a popular 1 minute fight. This is Neb the Wonder, which is not the
same person as the other Neb who didn't show up today. Probably he slept late and
missed his fight, because of what he was doing last night. All night. Not that I
would know, but people tell me these things. I guess they think if I'm really a spy,
I want to know. But I'm not, I mean, I didn't study, I just wing it.
SCOURGE (74-2857) (31-24-1,196) of DARK ANGELS fought DOC HOLIDAY (12-2956) (22-
18-1,171) of THE LAWMEN. SCOURGE vanquished DOC HOLIDAY in a popular 1 minute
mismatched fray. Does this mean Scourge is breaking the law, or does he just not
want to have, you know, a root canal. Why canals, if it's teeth? I always wondered
about that.
MONOMACH (17-3648) (26-20-3,192) of RAZOR GRACE fought RED BARON (33-1092) (35-
38-3,151) of LUROCIANS II. MONOMACH vanquished RED BARON in a 1 minute gruesome one-
sided match. Where did Monomach come from? Don't tell me Aljafir, I can see that.
But when? I didn't see him before, did I? Well, Hi, Monomach. Have a pizza.
ROYLAND (56-3380) (74-52-0,197) of REDHORSE fought LORD REDMOND (12-4109) (34-
28-1,173) of LUROCIANS IV. ROYLAND handily defeated LORD REDMOND in a popular 1
minute mismatched competition. You have to hit him harder, Redmond. Because he's,
you know, dense.
HEL (82-14331) (43-41-0,202) of ARCTIC GUARDS fought WRATH OF ONE (82-11628)
(17-5-2,172) of LUROCIANS XII. HEL overpowered WRATH OF ONE in a popular 1 minute
one-sided bout. But just wait till she meets wrath of, like, two! That's different.
LUMP O'GORE (13-1212) (100-93-5,182) of ILLFANG PACT fought TRYURLUCK (61-1029)
(61-57-1,176) of BLOOD KNIGHTS. LUMP O'GORE slimly won victory over TRYURLUCK in an
exciting 2 minute brutal fight. I don't think the announcer should say that. I
mean, it isn't like Lump is slim. As if!
GROGGY DOGGY (55-223) (128-182-0,189) of RHYME TYME fought MELTDOWN (32-3836)
(25-4-0,174) of WOLF PACK II. GROGGY DOGGY beat MELTDOWN in a crowd pleasing 1
minute brawl. I saw what happened! It should be disqualified. I mean, the Doggy
just THREW himself down in front of Meltdown, and when Meltdown tripped, he BIT him.
TESEN (12-4211) (48-52-1,192) of DEMONS OF DARKNESS fought HOUSE MOUSE (55-221)
(119-186-2,162) of RHYME TYME. TESEN defeated HOUSE MOUSE in an action packed 3
minute gruesome struggle. And WHACKED him! Whack him again, Tesen! He's a mouse!
Stomp on him!
SAMOO (37-4630) (28-16-1,200) of DARKENED PRIDE fought LORD FIREFLASH (33-2966)
(33-35-0,170) of LUROCIANS II. SAMOO easily killed LORD FIREFLASH in a 1 minute
uneven fight. Ooooh, easily! That is so nasty! That's just so totally unfriendly!
LADY EMILY (33-6626) (28-19-1,190) of LUROCIANS II fought FUNNY BUNNY (55-1862)
(93-133-1,190) of RHYME TYME. LADY EMILY was bested by FUNNY BUNNY in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute bout. This is because of Funny only having really red-faced jokes,
and Lady Emily being, you know, a lady. So she just couldn't pay attention on
account of blushing. Or, you know, something like that.
ELVIS (7-612) (39-32-0,202) of THE ROCKERS fought LORD LIGHTSPEED (33-2928) (39-
33-3,189) of LUROCIANS II. ELVIS was viciously subdued by LORD LIGHTSPEED in an
exciting 3 minute brutal contest. Because his hound dog was barking all the time? I
mean, that would make ME vicious. Not with the dog, because of it being, you know, a
dog, but still.
DESECRATION (21-4392) (41-16-3,353) of BLACKEST PRIDE fought KELOS (55-30) (66-
92-3,193) of ROCANIS RIDERS. DESECRATION overpowered KELOS in a crowd pleasing 1
minute one-sided match. Good! Not that Kelos even noticed, probably. You know
where sometimes a spy reporter says about gladiators walking into trees and
challenging walls? They mean Kelos.
JULIUS (64-3641) (76-91-2,223) of UNDER DURESS fought FRAIL WHALE (55-1968)
(114-165-3,210) of RHYME TYME. JULIUS was overpowered by FRAIL WHALE in a popular 1
minute uneven match. There's a note here in the margin of the notes that says that
Julius was under-duressed for the fight and he should get better armor. There's a
man over on Crooked Street who makes good armor.
KREWKUT SAUSAGE (65-6327) (26-25-0,218) of LINCOLNSHIRE fought ROBIN OF SHEW-
WOOD (103-33) (1-0-1,220) of College of Mimes. KREWKUT SAUSAGE vanquished ROBIN OF
SHEW-WOOD in a 2 minute uneven fight. This makes all the Shews really mad, and I
hate it when they're mad. I mean, they're so handy! If I want something off a top
shelf, a Shew can get it for me easy.
Here we are at the challenge matches already. I told you we didn't have enough
fights, didn't I?
SAMPSA (31-4233) (27-24-2,150) of SOL INVICTUS challenged SUPERIOR FORCES (33-
4543) (66-103-2,153) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY. Up 3. SAMPSA viciously butchered
SUPERIOR FORCES in a 1 minute Challenge melee. It's always like that when people go
around being superior all the time. It makes other people cross. And, you know,
vicious. Not usually that vicious, but sometimes. It's bad to be vicious when you
have a sword in your hand, did you know that? I heard somebody say that.
MIMR (82-3783) (65-42-2,239) of SOL INVICTUS challenged SMALL ROOMS (97-606)
(20-9-4,228) of THE HASTINGS. Down 11. MIMR overpowered SMALL ROOMS in a popular 2
minute mismatched Challenge brawl. This is Most Challenged Mimr. Where did the
challenges go? Probably Hal ate them. Along with the personals of lots of people.
We need to put Hal on a diet.
THE MADNESS (21-5214) (35-14-1,212) of BLACKEST PRIDE challenged WYATT EARP (12-
2168) (32-15-1,182) of THE LAWMEN. Down 30. THE MADNESS slimly lost to WYATT EARP
in a 2 minute bloody Challenge fight. This is because of Wyatt having steely-eyed
glint. It says so right here on the notes. I don't know which scribe put it there,
but they're always helpful that way. After all, I can't think of everything.

1 minute mismatched Challenge match. This is what they call "caveman tactics,"
right? I always wondered about that.

0,196) of ROCANIS RIDERS. Down 1. HERMES devastated MILA in a 1 minute one-sided
Challenge contest. Good! That'll teach him to go raiding caravans! And wearing
funny hats, too.

(33-7-1,295) of DSM4. Up lots. Um, 66. That's lots. TITAN demolished PARANOIA in
a popular 2 minute gruesome one-sided Challenge melee. Wow!

Our next Winter Face-to-Face will be held on Martin Luther King weekend, Friday
through Sunday, 14-16 January 2005, at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona (4400 S
Rural Rd--this is the same hotel as last year). Room rates are $139.00 per night,
1-4 occupancy, which includes breakfast. The rooms are blocked. The reservations
number is 480-897-7444; tell them you're with the "Reality Simulations Face to Face
Convention" block. Our room block will be released in mid-December, so please make
sure you reserve your room before then!
Room rates include a full cooked-to-order breakfast and a complimentary two-hour
manager's reception. There is a free shuttle to the airport, as well as free parking.
The hotel is located down the freeway in Tempe. All rooms have high speed internet
(for an extra charge). There is a fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool, and of course a
bar and Mexican restaurant inside the hotel. And there's Denny's right across the
street. Look for transportation info in the tournament information sheet.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
November/early December.
If you haven't been to a Face-to-Face before, you're overdue. If you have,
