Hail, Warriors of Free Blades! I have returned after a relatively easy bout last
turn against Darlina. I will keep this brief, as time is of the essence today...
This turn's challenges go out to Pungent Stench and Nightcap. Avoids go out to the
Aimed Blows, as usual. Hey, doesn't a pungent stench often follow a nightcap? Like
the Sake Gods settling in, a pile of sushi in your stomach and trip to porcelain
heaven???
Caesar is preparing his ladies for their Blood games melee. Hopefully, someone will
survive and join us here in Free Blades soon. Best of luck to all in both the
tourney and Bloodgames! I would also like to wecome back an old time friend and
ally, a heavy handed manager with a love of cigars and vodka, Mad Max of Arvat!
While he won't be here for a while, you can stop by and meet him for Happy Hour in
Arvat, crown jewel of the Free Blades cities. We again would like to take the time
to encourage anyone interested in a great basic arena to join us in Arvat. You won't
be disappointed. As a matter of fact, I would like to head back there... You know,
become Duelmaster, challenge down, kill, etc. All of the things that make this game
worth playing...

wish I could get my final will train. I'd be willing to give up the title for
that... And see, Ms Debby T., a column was written. Although I still feel that they
should swap you out with a bubble headed bleach blonde spy reporter... You've got

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Welcomem FREE BLADES. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Okay, maybe not
THIS place, since it's now being in held the physical arena at Lirin Kiv. Many the
fights have I fought here. I don't know why I say that, since I did all my fighting
in Talahya and Darkholm. Must be the cue cards. Whatever. Debby and I are
switching for a while, maybe only one fight day each, maybe longer, who knows? She
said she was "tired" of Free Blades, and you guys made to much work for her. That
kid doesn't know when she's got it good, but hey, I'm not going to argue about it.
Now I've got it good.
So, let's see what we've got here, besides cold, ah, fingers and noses. What's
with MUDVAYNE? That's a name? Well, I guess it takes all kinds. (This is the golem
notes, of course, you get me personally later.) He actually beat SCARLET KNIGHTS'
THE QUICKLING, and walked away with 40 more points from the fight. Major screwup at
SCARLET KNIGHTS. THE QUICKLING lost 35 points to MUDVAYNE. Some new strategies,
perhaps? Maybe THE QUICKLING will provide more easy wins... Probably a safe guess.
Apparently FREE BLADES isn't filled with as many gutless wonders as I thought.
The Dreaded Duelmaster (aka the Lord Marshal, or maybe the Lordly Marshal?) got 4
challenges this turn! Another fighter (KING LOVE 53-41-2) challenged another
Duelmaster (ROMULUS 63-46-3). Life goes on. KING LOVE was reminded on the sands why
ROMULUS is Duelmaster (or Lord Marshal). I suppose you want to hear some rumors and
dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough! That's Debby's business, and I
can't read her notes here.
No matter the time or place, men will always duel. Actually, this is not proven
for ALL times and places. There's some question as to the dueling that may or may
not go on between neighboring hermits in the deserts of Ratan. The most avoided team
was FEAR FACTORY. The bums at I, CLAUDIUS couldn't face the challenges from FEAR
FACTORY! No excuse for that! I hate going to the effort of writing about the kind
of fights that SCOOBY DOOM gets in. He fights people like COERCE, 9 points below. I
thought SCOOBY DOOM showed great skill and promise when he was defeated by COERCE.
All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! Ah, actually, I don't much care who
Scooby fights. Let him eat cake, if that's what he wants.
To descend from the golemic hyperbole to some actual details: thirty-three
fights, only two involving standbys. There are regional arenas on the Isle that
can't boast thirty-three WARRIORS, much less fights. Nine challenge matches, one of
them a TV challenge.
LU-LIGHTNING (13-4900) (21-10-1,87) of KIRKWOOD 1 fought SISTER X (12-6340) (20-
9-0,83) of CULTS-R-US. LU-LIGHTNING was devastated by SISTER X in a popular 1 minute
brutal uneven bout. And the good Sister IS indeed devastating. Seldom have I seen a
chainmail bikini so effectively combined with cultic jewelry and really good moves.
MALT-O-MEAL (60-7527) (17-4-1,56) of CHILDHOOD TRAUMA fought DRIZZT (40-4146)
(21-18-0,86) of PHILANTHROPISTS. MALT-O-MEAL was devastated by DRIZZT in a 1 minute
one-sided battle. If you ask me, these two deserve each other. In fact, Drizzt even
SOUNDS like Malt-o, and he was probably raised on the grueling stuff.
PITSPAWN FOULDOG (61-3121) (20-15-1,70) of FEAR FACTORY fought COMRADE KOOK (12-
6339) (20-10-1,79) of CULTS-R-US. PITSPAWN FOULDOG handily defeated COMRADE KOOK in
a 1 minute mismatched match. This means that Pitspawn does not have to shave his
fur, and at such a season, this can give him a big advantage when it comes to hanging
out in drafty secret temples. (All secret temples are drafty, it makes for more
dramatic torch flames.)
KJARRAN'S HAMMER (61-3372) (19-11-0,59) of FEAR FACTORY fought LUCIFREYJA (103-
40) (19-21-1,90) of the Louts Local 103. KJARRAN'S HAMMER beat LUCIFREYJA in a 2
minute gory bout. A different hammer, perhaps? Good work, KH.
MOUSE NOYLE (17-6252) (42-71-0,100) of MIDDLE WAY fought REPREHENSIBLE (82-
27850) (2-5-0,62) of THE BROTHERHOOD 91. MOUSE NOYLE demolished REPREHENSIBLE in a 1
minute one-sided fight. One-sided in favor of a mouse? That was, indeed,
reprehensible of you, Brother.
CANNIBAL CORPSE (61-2373) (30-31-4,109) of FEAR FACTORY fought HELYSE (103-36)
(45-35-5,165) of the Louts Local 103. CANNIBAL CORPSE was handily defeated by HELYSE
in a 1 minute one-sided fight. This is the sort of thing that gives the standbys a
bad name.
KNUCKLE JAW (77-2129) (45-51-2,141) of GWAR fought JAVELINO (56-3728) (35-42-
0,121) of REDHORSE. KNUCKLE JAW overpowered JAVELINO in a 1 minute uneven fight. I
would guffaw, but they tell me that's uncouth. Above all, I wish to be couth while
I'm here. But this is surely a case of pig's knuckles!
LOPING WOLF (56-1796) (88-143-0,168) of REDHORSE fought MARILYN MANSON (61-1993)
(38-27-2,148) of FEAR FACTORY. LOPING WOLF savagely defeated MARILYN MANSON in an
action packed 3 minute competition. I've heard it bandied about that when all else
fails, one should check the id numbers of the warriors and upchallenge based on that.
This was not, of course, a challenge, but it caused me to think of the point. People
will try anything.
DAMORETH STENN (65-6105) (61-79-1,153) of SAND DANCERS fought NINE INCH NAIL
(61-2273) (36-32-3,180) of FEAR FACTORY. DAMORETH STENN was viciously subdued by
NINE INCH NAIL in a popular 4 minute fray. Definitely, this is a man who needs to go
NOW to open his fishing hotel. Although the weather isn't the best for it, unless he
can get up some ice fishing.
THE QUICKLING (70-1669) (71-160-2,176) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought MUDVAYNE (61-
3039) (24-22-0,112) of FEAR FACTORY. THE QUICKLING was savagely defeated by MUDVAYNE
in an action packed 2 minute match. You've already had the "color" on this match, up
at the beginning, right? Mudvayne did good here.
RETROVIRUS (70-6086) (45-33-0,210) of FEAR FACTORY IV fought GRETH (32-4321)
(21-7-1,164) of RILL'S GCSC2. RETROVIRUS overpowered GRETH in a popular 2 minute
uneven fight. Greth is now beginning a course of treatment which should allow
several of the Infirmarians to publish landmark articles.
ALVIN (16-3927) (44-25-1,194) of AARON'S ANGELS fought SUPERIOR FORCES (33-4543)
(95-133-2,192) of DUPLICATE REDUNDANCY. ALVIN subdued SUPERIOR FORCES in a popular 1
minute gruesome fight. Proof, it was needed, that a gladiator doesn't always live up
to his name, eh?
TRYURLUCK (61-1029) (102-75-1,198) of BLOOD KNIGHTS fought FLATTUS MAXIMUS (77-
2125) (48-49-2,152) of GWAR. TRYURLUCK handily defeated FLATTUS MAXIMUS in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute uneven duel. Ah, too bad. I was looking forward to a
demonstration of FM's signature move. Perhaps next time.
RILLION (36-5545) (43-29-1,198) of THE CHADS fought BIONIC BUFFALO (11-6570)
(26-8-0,160) of DO IT AGAIN. RILLION luckily beat BIONIC BUFFALO in an exciting 1
minute gory duel. I don't see where the luck enters into this. Rillion (tW) had it
all his own way, and a very fast way it was.
VICTIM OF SOCIETY (55-3179) (49-43-2,203) of PHILANTHROPISTS fought ROYLAND (56-
3380) (113-72-0,197) of REDHORSE. VICTIM OF SOCIETY devastated ROYLAND in a 1 minute
one-sided contest. Debby left a note to say that this would be a good thing to
happen, guess she doesn't care for Royland.
FUNNY BUNNY (55-1862) (132-153-2,194) of RHYME TYME fought KAZMOGORATH (70-972)
(26-9-1,191) of ANCIENT LORDS. FUNNY BUNNY overpowered KAZMOGORATH in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided match. Do you suppose we can force the Bunny to retire
when he hits three hundred fights? Debby's got it right about the fossils.
KELOS (55-30) (88-129-4,199) of ROCANIS RIDERS fought REDFOX (13-4197) (73-114-
0,196) of CARDOW HUNTERS. KELOS was beaten by REDFOX in an exciting 2 minute match.
This must have been exciting for both of them, hmm?
TAIRIKIA (51-4247) (115-93-2,203) of SAND DANCERS fought NIGHTFALL (74-2421)
(139-110-4,185) of DARKLINGS. TAIRIKIA was devastated by NIGHTFALL in a 1 minute
one-sided brawl. I've been sorry to see the sun set myself, now and then, but I
wouldn't say I was devastated by it. Seems extreme.
CORT NIGHTJEWEL (78-196) (78-113-0,204) of THE DRAGON FIST fought CLAUDIUS (13-
2860) (42-31-2,171) of I, CLAUDIUS. CORT NIGHTJEWEL overcame CLAUDIUS in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute bout. Bummer. I can see that this Cort fellow is a fossil
himself.
PUNGENT STENCH (61-2458) (44-29-1,230) of FEAR FACTORY fought KYRLANIA (70-2327)
(102-117-1,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. PUNGENT STENCH was overpowered by KYRLANIA in a
5 minute one-sided duel. They do say that even the strongest stench fades if you
wait. I guess five minutes is enough for this one to wear out.
NIGHTCAP (74-2745) (106-106-0,243) of DARKLINGS fought GOLEM (35-1485) (72-52-
1,214) of THE PHILANTHROPISTS. NIGHTCAP viciously subdued GOLEM in a crowd pleasing
4 minute bloody bout. Ah, well, a golem, who cares? There are too many golems
around here as it is.
JAMMIES (74-2829) (96-89-1,253) of DARKLINGS fought KIMO (70-6089) (39-38-4,209)
of FEAR FACTORY IV. JAMMIES viciously subdued KIMO in an exciting 2 minute brutal
contest. Oops. Mug him in an alley, Kimo! Take his teddybear!
VINCENT CRABBE (74-3498) (56-50-2,219) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE fought GOSSAMER (35-
3656) (44-35-1,181) of PHILANTHROPISTS 2. VINCENT CRABBE subdued GOSSAMER in a 1
minute competition. Oooh-kay. If this is what it takes, go for it, Vince.
NEBUCHADNEZZAR (22-5821) (52-47-0,278) of BLADES OF WONDER fought JULIUS (64-
3641) (107-119-2,202) of UNDER DURESS. NEBUCHADNEZZAR overpowered JULIUS in a
popular 3 minute brutal one-sided melee. Oooo, brutality! Gotta love it. What, you
didn't know that gladiating is all about brutality? And savagery, and other stuff
like that. Listen up, people get dead from this. That's brutal. At least, it is at
first. After a while, if you're philosophically inclined, you begin to see "dead" as
a very positive state. I like it.

11-0,128) of PHILANTHROPISTS. Down 6. SANGUINE was vanquished by MIMOSA in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge fight. Done in by a tree with pink umbrellas on it! The
ignominy!
NOREASTER (35-3896) (23-5-1,175) of DIRT DEVILS challenged 3 FISTED RAT BOY (70-
6130) (37-52-3,176) of GWAR. Up 1. NOREASTER slimly won victory over 3 FISTED RAT
BOY in a 3 minute Challenge duel. Yep, one of these days, we're going to see him
listed as Five-Fisted Rat Boy, and watch his record soar.
SCOOBY DOOM (12-6021) (23-9-1,174) of HOUNDS OF HELL challenged COERCE (78-1577)
(30-25-1,165) of FEAR FACTORY. Down 9. SCOOBY DOOM was luckily beaten by COERCE in
an action packed 2 minute Challenge melee. It's that choke collar. Does it every
time. Well, nearly every time.
SAMARIUM (75-3071) (29-17-1,199) of I AM SAM challenged PROPANE TORCH (61-2524)
(36-33-1,207) of FEAR FACTORY. Up 8. SAMARIUM devastated PROPANE TORCH in a 1
minute mismatched Challenge match. What devastates a propane torch? Besides using
up the propane. Inquiring Minds want to know.
RIDDLER (61-1856) (71-54-1,189) of FEAR FACTORY challenged SMUG BUG (55-2900)
(61-119-0,186) of RHYME TYME. Down 3. RIDDLER devastated SMUG BUG in a 1 minute
one-sided Challenge duel. Something about the first four words of that sentence
tickles my fancy. You wouldn't think it after all these years, but my fancy IS
rather ticklish.
REQUIEM (11-4472) (27-20-0,181) of BALLAD OF THE BLADE challenged JELIAH BIGABO
(35-3676) (45-23-2,186) of PHILANTHROPISTS 3. Up 5. REQUIEM was savagely defeated
by JELIAH BIGABO in an exciting 1 minute Challenge fight. Wow, Requiem, can you say
"error in judgment"?
MORTIFICATION (61-2333) (49-40-4,221) of FEAR FACTORY challenged T-BONE (13-
3139) (39-24-0,225) of LEGION OF DUMB. Up 4. MORTIFICATION defeated T-BONE in a
crowd pleasing 3 minute bloody Challenge duel. It was probably that peppery stake,
er, steak sauce that did it.
DARTMAN (33-7161) (47-21-3,192) of COLGATE DAYS TV challenged DARLINA (74-2995)
(59-61-3,194) of SAND DANCERS. Up 2. DARTMAN vanquished DARLINA in an exciting 1
minute uneven Challenge battle. And congratulations to Dartman for having the TV
challenge to use, as well as for beating Darlina. Ah, vanquishing Darlina, sorry.
And for the title: KING LOVE (40-3748) (53-40-2,305) of GARDEN OF HORRORS TV
challenged ROMULUS (32-3047) (62-46-3,291) of ROMAN HEROES. Another TV challenge,
used appropriately, down 14 to the Lord Marshal. KING LOVE was bested by ROMULUS in
a crowd pleasing 3 minute Challenge Title fight. Way to go, Romulus!
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover
stupor. You young rapscallions, take note!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
