THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Lord-Marshall
Well, that serves me right for not challenging, doesn't it? Although everything
would be a down-challenge, which I don't like to do. Who I hope I'll fight today is
Superior Forces. He's our top Wall of Steel, and I don't know that my Parry-Lunge
style is good against that. Then HE would have to write the columns.
Are some of you sorry you didn't get rid of me at the split? *makes face* I
COULD have gone to Primus. But I really don't want to. There are some warriors who
look forward to it. Let them go, I say.
I need to help one of my teammates spackle and prime a wall in the guildhouse,
so I'd best not let this run too long. (That's another way of saying: I have
nothing more to say.)
Advice. Hmm. Black goes with everything. Does this mean you should wear an
unadorned black robe with a deep cowl to shade your skeletal features and glowing red
eyes (after a night on the town)? No. Unless it's a very cold morning, and it's a
nice wool robe with a border of woven peacock feathers, and beautiful blue-jade
buttons. That's what I wear, but only while my bath water is being heated.
I shall see you all again soon, hopefully not from the Lord Marshall's chair.
Till then -- have a nice autumn.
Nightcap
REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Busy, busy, busy, lots of things happening in FREE BLADES this turn, and let's
start with a look at some of the teams. And let's see, JEO THE SONGSMITH fought
TREEFROG and gained 16 points and contributed to BLUE EYRIE's 1-0-0. TREEFROG has
lost to JEO THE SONGSMITH, falling 13 points, while helping make GREENWARDENS a 4-2-0
turn. DREAD challenged for the Duelmastership this turn, attempting to dethrone
DARKLINGS' warrior. We should ask DREAD about the thrill of victory, and what being
the new Duelmaster does for a warrior, it's now the one to ask. By the way, was that
our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Cooler?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. STREET WALKERS has cause to stand tall, as
they were FREE BLADES' most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And guess who avoided STREET WALKERS stable the most? Believe it or not, it
was DO IT AGAIN. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that SEKHAT from
CASTAWAYS was FREE BLADES' most challenged warrior this turn. Tsk, tsk, tsk. BILBO
BAGGINNI, does your manager know you're challenging down 18 points to fight SEKHAT
from CASTAWAYS? I thought challenges were for warriors, not cowards looking for easy
wins. BILBO BAGGINNI subdued SEKHAT, is nothing sacred?
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. Is it really true that FREE BLADES has more dishwashers per capita that
fighters? Just thought I'd ask...
I like this place, FREE BLADES, the taverns have old wine, and young serving
girls. Who could ask for more? It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet
again, keep your swords sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in FREE
BLADES again, farewell-- Alarond the Scribe

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Um, listen, I was really busy, okay? I was carrying coffee to Olaf Modeen while
he did the tourney spy report. You wouldn't BELIEVE how much coffee that man
drinks! It can't be good for him, and besides, he doesn't even like the stuff.
I tried putting umbrellas in the cups, but he just ate them. -- Debby T.
These are old, but they're what we've got, so why not, huh?
Jeo the Songsmith -- You're probably one of those frog-eating birds, at least, if
you're a bird. With six limbs, you might be a yucky bug. -- Treefrog
Ah, well, a win from a standby is still a win, and I'm not going to complain. --
Wooden Arrow
Sekhat -- Damned Fratsfans, always wandering around LOOMING over people and attacking
them. Too bad the Shews didn't take you guys all the way down. -- Whitebraid
Savory -- Uh... does that mean you want me to help you make Stone Soup? -- Mossrock
the uneasy
What is it with Rosella lately? She's been so mean! -- Redthorn
For three skills and two ratings, I'll take "mean." -- Stump
Defiance -- That was a very good fight, wasn't it? I think a... But, oh no, I took
the title again! Darn you. -- Nightcap
Goldie -- We both profited from that one. I like when that happens. So, um... a
Street Walker named Goldie.... you're in the heavenly paving business? Actually
streets paved with gold would be rather impractical, wouldn't they? But I could
imagine grooved paving stones with gold inlaid in the grooves. That would be rather
stunning, wouldn't it? -- Gazelle
P.S. I know what "street walker" actually means. And I'm glad you're out of that
business now.
Treefrog -- That was pretty quick. I think you need to work on your defenses, my
friend. -- Sekhat
Bilbo Bagginni -- I do not like your style. I have never liked it and will never
like it. Try not to get matched with me again. -- Jeo the Songsmith
Whitebraid -- I am NOT a Fratsfan. Look! Fur! I'm a Pridefolk. Prideperson...
what's the singular? -- Sekhat

WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!
Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 14-16, 2011. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-894-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $129.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception (yes, really!), free
airport shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 22
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and people have been
unable to book rooms because they waited too long.) Look for the tournament info
sheet and minioverviews some time in December. We hope you're all looking forward to
it and that we will see you there!
