                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

Ladies and Gents!

Well, we do have much to discuss today.
     ENDER (69-1066) (28-26-4,223) of XENOCIDE challenged COOLER (82-7277) (121-110-
2,252) of STYROFOAM. ENDER was devastated by COOLER in a 1 minute mismatched
Challenge Title fight. I say, well done indeed -- on Ender's part -- to have
challenged at all! I lift my glass in salute to the brave Xenocide warrior!
ZOLTAN (72-1483) (20-11-1,186) of LOST SWORDS challenged SMELL CAREFULLY (18-
8889) (57-100-2,188) of STREET PIZZA. ZOLTAN demolished SMELL CAREFULLY in a popular
2 minute one-sided Challenge melee. VERY well done, Zoltan! That was a brave
challenge and a noteworthy win.
     HAGAR (3-3717) (25-3-0,207) of AESIR challenged ??RADAR?? (82-20310) (71-89-
1,226) of DYSLEXICS UNTIE! II. HAGAR was unbelievably bested by ??RADAR?? in a 2
minute Challenge brawl. I heartily applaud Hagar's effort to unseat our top Wall of
Steel and popularity leader. However I'd like to point out that the seat is not
actually the best target in a serious fight.
The Middle Way... hmm... on the positive side, they didn't fight all stand-ins
today. On the negative side, it wasn't a nice turn. Not a nice turn at all. I
assume you all know that the so-called "Cocky Spectator" is someone they pick from
the stands every turn who is making himself obnoxious. Usually, it's some fellow who
has gotten a bit foxed and become rather too loud. Today, what looked like a silly
drunk turned out to be a very sober assassin with poison on his blades and blood
money in his pocket. He is being questioned by Sheila's Finest -- or more
appropriately, her Worst -- the Gray Inquisitor. But we do not yet know whether he
was specifically targeting warriors of The Middle Way, or just in general aiming to
kill gladiators... or why. If anyone has any information, I urge them to come
forward.
     * KATIRONA MURH (5-4929) (27-20-2,77) of THE MIDDLE WAY 5 fought COCKY SPECTATOR
(104-3) (0-0-0,0) of NOW IN CUSTODY STAND-INS. KATIRONA MURH was easily killed by
COCKY SPECTATOR in a 1 minute one-sided conflict.
     * HELENE JUSTE (5-4875) (16-18-0,58) of THE MIDDLE WAY 5 fought COCKY SPECTATOR
(104-3) (0-0-0,0) of NOW IN CUSTODY STAND-INS. HELENE JUSTE was put to death by
COCKY SPECTATOR in a 2 minute bloody bout.
The two brave ladies are, of course, freshly resurrected. It is commonly known
that this happens, so one wonders what the savage git was sent to accomplish, eh?

Our story thus far:

Ender and I had ventured into the abandoned hilltop casino, Eve's Palace Casino,
to investigate claims that it is haunted. We heard a giggle, which turned out to
have issued from a dead man up on the interior balcony of the front room. At that
point, I lost consciousness. I haven't the constitution for this sort of adventure,
really.

When I opened my eyes, the impressive young warrior was up there, clashing
swords with the giggler, who continued to... well... find merriment in the
experience. Ender was faster -- he's a bit of a decisiveness addict, really -- and
swiftly added seven or eight more fatal wounds to the ones the giggler had already
possessed -- but to no avail! The undead thing kept right on swinging its scimitar.
Sooner or later it would connect, and I suspected Ender was not so resitant to fatal
wounds.
Oddly, dismemberment did not seem to be working as well as you always hear in
stories like this. Ender severed both of the giggler's arms, but they hung on by a
few persistent strings and soon reattached themselves -- although with much loss of
blood, of which it seemed to possess an infinite supply.
I needed to do something to help. However, this sort of thing was not my forte.
I knew I needed to steady my nerves. As I picked myself up off the floor I glanced
around and saw.... the bar! In front of a mirror, a row of bottles gleamed faintly
through a layer of dust. A good shot of brandy, I said to myself, and I'd be ready
to come up with a brilliant solution to our giggling problem.
I staggered over to the bar, which shimmered before my eyes like an oasis in a
burning desert. There were more cobwebs -- drapes of them -- but I plunged bravely
through, intent upon my goal. The sound of clashing steel up on the balcony added
 urgency to my quest.
Once behind the bar, I had to blow the dust off of several bottles to find out
what they were -- and believe me, between that and the cobwebs, this was doing my
sweetly tailored suit very little good -- but at last I found it? Tricoran Gold
brandy, an especially potent variety -- ah, and a fine year as well!
There was no corkscrew. I heard a cry of pain from Ender, and ripple of crazed
laughter from his opponent. "Aha!" I exclaimed, remembering that I had placed a
corkscrew in my inside coat pocket in case we encountered a need for it here.
Swiftly and with strong and steady hands, I removed the cork! And raised the bottle
to my eager lips...
At that moment, something hove into view at the opposite end of the behind-bar
aisle. It was a man with a horrible gash in his head, that appeared to be leaking
blood and brains. He was armed with two daggers. His overly bright eyes turned
toward me, and he giggled!
I spewed brandy. Pity, that, since a brief taste had assured me it was a truly
excellent vintage. And I realized I was faced with a true dilemma. Here I was -- in
mortal danger, as was my friend Ender. Immediate action was needed. And yet, one
did not wish to spill the Tricoran Gold. Might as well use it as a cooking brandy,
pour it over pancakes and set the stuff on fire, yes?
Yes. Backing away, I sloshed the precious liquid on the approaching giggler.
Then I fumbled in my pants pocket for a match.

(To be continued -- naturally!)
