Iaye and beyond:

Goff's boat was not what they'd expected. Raoul admitted to himself that the
big manager had looked like someone who would own a rowboat for the fishing. But
this...was a worthy vessel. It had a mast and sails--probably all with technical
names, not that Raoul cared. It was a trim vessel and fit to cross the Trier, which
was what counted. It actually had a crew of two who did things to the sails, took
them up and down, changed their angle, and so on. Sailor stuff. They seemed to
enjoy what they were doing, but as far as he was concerned, a boat was
transportation, and that was all.
"How far is it to Istoreth?" Raoul asked.
     "A hundred twenty-five, maybe a hundred fifty miles, I haven't measured." Goff
shrugged. "The wind's against us, it always is this time of year, but even so, it
shouldn't take more than a few days."

Istoreth:

"But this is the goods!" Peranis protested. He knew his voice was getting
shrill, but he couldn't help it. These S'varni were maddening. They didn't CARE.
"With this book," he urged, trying to speak more calmly, even though this was the
third of the city's princes he'd made his pitch to, "you'd have the entire Andorian
intelligence network under your hand, and the power to coerce many of the Andorian
lords into obedience, as well."
Lord Haluren, a FARMER, for the gods' sake, the Sealord and the Spelllord having
already turned him down, shrugged. "Why would I want the Andorian intelligence
network? Would it bring rain in season, or prevent the malformed births of sheep and
cattle?"
"But..." Peranis swallowed, "but you could sell it to the Osksi, if nothing
else! They'd give you a good price for it, more than I'm asking."
"Sell it to the Osksi yourself, then," Haluren advised. "I understand the winds
are favorable for sailing to Osksi at this season. Have a good trip."
Peranis found himself outside the door, with no clear notion of what he was
going to do next. His dreams of wealth and power were not materializing. The Black
Book WAS valuable, but if he couldn't find a buyer...he wasn't sure that he could use
that information safely himself. Certainly not from a base in Andoria. There were
enough assassins left that his survival would be measured in days, weeks at the most,
once he made his first approach. Probably not in Osksi, either. They were the
enemies of Andoria, but they had their own code of honor and nothing but disgust for
a traitor, which is how they'd see him. He reconsidered his original plan, to take
the Book to the Karnhorns, then shook his head. Better to leave them out of it.
They had no honor at all, and if someone--Kaliv Jhuizkhal of Kurukar, for example--
decided he wanted the Black Book, he would simply order Peranis' death and take it.
Which meant staying in Skaithvarn. But not in Istoreth, apparently. Well,
there must be someone, some prince of a small kingdom who would like to increase his
power. Maybe a prince with a daughter he could marry. Yes, that had appeal.
With renewed confidence in his glorious future, the assassin set out for the
waterfront. He would find a boat to take him south along the peninsula, to one of
the other kingdoms.

Zuwayza or Somewhere Else:

     "Ah, you are awake then?"
The voice seemed unreasonably cheerful, given the way Tankesh's head was
pounding. It was speaking Akhaddic...of a sort. Understandable, since it was
speaking slowly, or maybe the odd accent was becoming more familiar. He opened his
eyes cautiously. He was in a dimly lit room, on a sort of divan or daybed such as
the Karnhorns used. The walls were pale above, and something simple and dark below,
painted plaster, maybe. Plainer than the walls in any upper class Karnhorn house
he'd seen. A two-branched candlestick of bronze provided the light. The man sitting
beside him and holding the candlestick had the expected dark, hawk-nosed face,
typical Karnhorn. But he was wearing an unfamiliar sort of headgear, a cap like an
inverted flowerpot, of black patterned with gold, and he had a swathe of green cloth
twisted around the base of it.
     "Where...?"
"In the house of Taran in'Dalbi, a merchant, and fortunate for you that you
occurred here, and not in the hands of some worshipper of bloody Jakarran. We see
few Elves here in Wazara, and most view them with deep suspicion. Taran is a more
cosmopolitan man, however, why, he has even been to Ys! He knows well that an Elf is
just a man, and not some dark spirit come to work harm." The man's mouth twitched
between mustache and pointed beard. "Very fortunate you are. For if you had been
received next door, in the house of Zaldin in'Varash, you might be stretched on an
altar by now!"
Tankesh frowned and tried to heave himself up on one elbow. The room shimmied
around him alarmingly, but he could see his sword lying on a side table, which told
him that he wasn't a prisoner here. Wherever "here" was. "Where?" he demanded
again.
"Ah, of course. I was forgetting for a moment that you are a...Visitor.
Wazara, as I said, capital of Valkoril. This is one of the most famous ports on the
Middle Sea, the last port on the Southern Shore before one comes to the Pillars of
the Sun."
     "Visitor?"
"From another time, or another world." The man waved one hand negligently. "I
am no philosopher to probe into such details, but a mere physician. But you are not
the first Visitor to come to Valkoril of late, nor even the first to visit Golden
Wazara, so once he had recovered from the shock of your arrival, Taran understood
what was happening."
     "More'n I do," Tankesh muttered.
"This is your first experience at Traveling? Then it is no wonder you are
confused, especially if you have known no other Travelers." The physician tapped his
knee thoughtfully with the fingers of one hand, then nodded. "Very well, then, let
me see if I can explain--so far as my understanding goes. The worlds that sprang
forth from the First Cause are as numerous as the grains of sand in Southern Waste,
as like and as different from each other as such grains may be. When the wind swirls
over the Waste, grains of sand may strike one another, move from one place to lie in
different company, whatever metaphor you wish." His fingers flicked in a dismissing
gesture. "At such times of contact, Travel becomes possible, by will or by chance--
in your case, I assume that it must have been chance." He raised an eyebrow
inquiringly.
Tankesh started to nod and thought better of it. "Yes. The woman with me, what
happened to her?"
The man shrugged. "When you fell, you lost your grip on her hand. At once, the
road that you had Traveled together split. I do not know whether she would return to
the world where your journey began, or go on to some other on her own."
Someone tapped on the door to the room.
The doctor rose at once and crossed to it, opening it a hands' breadth. "What
news, Taran?"
"The worst, Russem! We must get rid of the fellow at once!" The man in the
hallway had a gasping voice, or in the grip of strong emotion. "Zaldin's pet
astrologer has worked out that there was an Occurrence, and he knows I must be
harboring a Visitor!"
"Say rather, he suspects it, Taran. But you are correct, the Visitor cannot
remain here any longer, unless he wishes to decorate an altar to Jakarran." The
doctor glanced over his shoulder at Tankesh. "We have neither the knowledge nor the
power to return you to your original world, but we shall send you to one who may
help. But you must go at once, without delay--"
A deep drumming sound echoed through the house.
"That will be the Sultan's men--or the Temple Guards, even!--at the door," the
merchant muttered. "I dare not refuse them entry."

Sailing to Skaithvarn:

The wind dropped at the end of the first day and didn't pick up the next morning
as expected. The ship just sat still in the water--as far as Raoul and Jeri could
tell--with its sails flapping limply.
"In a logical world," Jeri muttered, "if the wind stopped blowing AGAINST us,
we'd be able to make progress."
Raoul grinned. "Not much logic here, doll!" He glanced toward Goff and
sobered. "I just wish he'd stop looking so worried...."
Berdan, the ex-assassin, who had vanished into his cabin as the wind dropped,
now reappeared. He had some sort of small brass box in his hand. "We're in
trouble," he announced quietly.
Before the Fratsfan could elaborate on that, Goff came toward them from the
steering area, and he looked more worried than Berdan. "We're in trouble," he said.
"We're lost--"
"How can we be lost?" Jeri demanded, her voice rising. She looked around
anxiously. The water looked much the same in every direction. The sky had the kind
of thin, milky overcast that turned it to a sheet of glaring white, with no one
direction obviously brighter than another. "The Trier's not that wide, can't we just
sail west until we come to Skaithvarn, and then figure out whether we're north or
south of Istoreth?"
"Tell me which way's west, and I'll do it--even if I have to row," Goff said.
"Ah." Berdan nodded and held out his brass box, which they could now see was a
compass. Or had been a compass. The needle under the glass dome swung lazily around
and around, though the ship was not moving. "I presume your ship's compass is now as
useless as this?"
     "Yeah," Goff admitted. "It--"
There was a sort of ripple in the air, not something to be seen, but only felt
as a shiver across their skin. The compass needle whirled and steadied, indicating
north as being to the right of the ship. A breeze from the north ruffled the surface
of the water. Goff's two crew members leaped to adjust the sails.
"Can you explain any of this?" Raoul asked.
"No, but it's happened before," Goff said grimly. "There've been reports of
this kind of thing--becalmed and the compass doesn't work, then eventually the wind
and the north come back. And some ships have been lost entirely, like maybe they
never did get their bearings back--"
"And KNOWING this, you still set out to sail to Skaithvarn? Are you CRAZY?"
Jeri demanded.
"What should we do, cower in our houses and wait for the Grey Witch to make
everything safe again?" the manager demanded. "One ship in twenty, maybe, has
reported losing the north for a while. Only one in...a hundred, or maybe more has
failed to come back. It's a gamble, but heck, LIFE is a gamble."
One of the crewmen had climbed to the very top of the mast and was examining the
horizons with a spyglass. "Land ahead!" he reported. "Looks like the Volarbyn
okay!"
At Raoul's questioning glance, Goff said, "Highlands just north of Istoreth."
"Ship coming from the north," the lookout added. "I don't recognize her
shape...." He continued to stare northward through the spyglass.
"And that's the flip side of the problem," Goff said as he headed for the
steering area. "Somebody getting lost from the Other Side, wherever that is.
Sometimes they act like pirates. We may have a fight on our hands."

The Isle of the Eye:

They didn't get to see Sheila Greywand, which was a surprise. Some sort of
secretary told them that she was "very busy." They should take their trophy, which
might or might not be the Eye of the South, to the Stronghold Academy and turn it
over to Senior Wizard Tanrith. Then he shut the door in their faces.
"You would think," Mr. Testosterone muttered angrily, "that after sending us--
personally sending us, at that--on a special mission of 'surpassing importance',
she'd want to at least hear our report in person and ask us some questions."
"One might think that," Bellerophon agreed. "I suppose she might be occupied
with more pressing matters," he went on slowly, staring at the shut door.
"We were given to understand that there WERE no more pressing matters than
finding out what happened to the Eyes," Tamea Soulkeeper growled. "But not only are
we turned away at her door, we could barely get onto the Isle at all!"
"That might be one of the more pressing matters," Skirnir suggested.
"Ha! I know when I've been insulted." Tamea glared at the door. "It would
serve her right if we didn't take the Eye to the Academy."
"No, WE should do things properly, even if SHE is too busy," E.A. Polecat cut
in. "Besides, what would we do with the thing?" He looked at the towel-wrapped
bundle uneasily.
"And even if we, you know, get away with it now," Debby Tonte predicted, "SHE
will notice later on, and then we'll be in trouble. SHE always notices sooner or
later."
"What's the point in arguing?" Onuphre asked. "We're going to take it to the
Stronghold Academy, to this Senior Wizard, so let's just do it. I want to go back to
my guildhouse, take a hot bath, get a good meal, and a night's sleep in a real bed
for a change." He glanced sideways at Debby. "Not that the Rithakar Hilton wasn't
okay, but I want my own bed."
"I agree," Natasha Knight said from the back of the group. "Let's just get rid
of the thing and be done with all this. Where is the Stronghold Academy from here?"
She moved to the outer door and peered into the fog uncertainly.
Debby tugged her beach jacket more securely around her well-tanned figure and
stepped out into the fog. "It's right down there." She gestured at nothing visible
to the others.
The gladiators glanced at each other. Bellerophon shrugged. "She always lands
on her feet," he murmured. "She probably does know where the Academy is, and we want
to get rid of this. Let's go."
     They went.
Ten minutes brisk walk brought them to a stout brick wall topped with iron
spikes. The porter at the heavy gate, a pale, weedy specimen who looked more like a
student of magic than any kind of guard, let them in without argument, and directed
them to Tanrith's workroom.
Tanrith looked old, as befitted a senior wizard. He also looked tired, but that
was not their problem. He took the towel-wrapped stone from them, set it on a bare
table, and unwrapped it. The stone was a sphere a little bigger than a man's head,
chalky white, smooth but dull of surface, and faint shadows cast by nothing visible
moved just under its skin.
The wizard sighed. "This was, indeed, one of the Eyes," he said. "It's beyond
recovery now, poor thing. Best to put it out of its misery...."
"You make it sound like something alive," E.A. Polecat muttered.
"It is. Or it was. The records state plainly that when Lady Greywand created
the Eyes, each was built around the soul, spirit, or whatever you want to call it, of
a living person. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did."
"Why?" Tamea Soulkeeper leaned forward intently. "Why should they not survive
for even longer when preserved by spells?"
"Nothing but the vast mind of a Great Dragon lasts without decay for more than a
few hundred years in nature. Spells may extend that period to as much as a thousand
years, but beyond that point...no." The old man sighed. "Oh, to be sure, you can
keep it GOING with spells, but it changes. Memory frays away, personality twists
into new channels, and the resilience of the healthy mind is lost. The mind may
retain function, indeed, it may be quite powerful, but it isn't sane by any measure."
Nobody said anything. Bellerophon didn't look at the other gladiators, but in
his mind was the awareness that Sheila Greywand was considerably more than a thousand
years old. Was this man saying SHE was insane? Impossible...or was it?
"That's two of the Eyes recovered," Tanrith went on. "The East and the South.
Good work."
"And luck," Bellerophon said. "Luck, and help when we needed it."
"If the Eyes are useless now," Tamea asked, "what happens to the Arcanum and
magic?"
"Nobody knows for sure," the old wizard said. "Disruption of normal life, at
the least. Beyond that, we must wait and see."

Talahya?

"I'm not sure that would be a good idea," Fizban said cautiously. "We don't
know where we are, but we DO know that the Gate we came through must be near here.
If we go farther away, we could lose track of our route home."
Moonjumper patted his hand. "It's okay, we're as lost as we'll ever be
already!"
"What wonderful news." The old wizard sighed.
"Besides, we're Lord Protectors," Scarlatti pointed out, straightening up from
his examination of the water. "Part of our DUTY is to explore new realms."
"And our pleasure, as well," Carris Fallstar agreed. "Let's see if there is a
boat, a ferry or some other boat. I feel like sailing!"
Fizban looked from one to another of his companions, shook his head slightly,
and sighed. Maybe it was a sign of his age, but he really didn't like the idea of
getting completely lost. At least here, there was the illusion that by retracing
their steps, they could find the Gate they'd come through and return to the Isle.
Rodan leaned closer to him. "It will be okay," the blind gladiator murmured.
"I can retrace a long route as easily as a short one. And it is better to do
something, even something wrong, than to do nothing."

Lirin Kiv?

The carriage moved through the streets slowly, as though the driver was feeling
his way in the fog. The fog wasn't heavy enough to justify that kind of groping
progress, but Shylock kept quiet. No point in berating the driver. Besides, the
Lord Protector was also making full use of the chance to stare around. So was
Clemenda, he noted, well, that was okay. He didn't normally like people around him
to be TOO alert, but in this peculiar situation, no telling what might be significant
and who might notice it first.
The temple to Somebody Who Wasn't Mantor vanished behind them. Shylock counted
turns and blocks and finally set his teeth against possible disaster and looked
toward where the arena should have been. Hmm. Not the same structure, but there
were points of similarity.
     It might be an arena.

Sorry to be so brief, but time and heat is pressing. More to come, if it rains. --

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

Greetings, one and all! Another wonderfully sunny day in Andorak! I spent the
morning washing Princess Samarra's carriage, but I did manage to catch all the
important fights for today's report. But boy-oh-boy, did I hear one helluva story at
the White Tower. I promise, I'll relay it all to you next time around. It's pretty
sad stuff, and I want to make sure I get all the details right before I go talking
about it, so forgive me if I don't "tell all" just yet.
Only one death this cycle, which will be noted below. The title may or may not
have changed hands, which will also be mentioned below. There may or may not have
been downchallenges, but you'll have to LOOK OUT BELOW!!!
NEBBISH (60-1172) (46-56-1,227) of SAILS OF CHARON TV challenged JESTER (38-830)
(48-51-0,232) of MINSTRELS. NEBBISH devastated JESTER in a action packed 3 minute
mismatched Challenge fight. Up 5. The first of many TV challenges placed this
cycle, with the challenger pulling off the hard fought victory.
MANUS (63-1783) (52-22-1,223) of BAILE BEAG TV challenged DEMONFANG (6-4891)
(58-49-2,225) of DARK PANTHEON. MANUS was handily defeated by DEMONFANG in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge match. Up 2. Demonfang continues to impress with another
victory for his Delarquan manager. Congrats to Doc Steele as his team record
continues to impress as well.
GRAA ROCKBROW (15-3121) (39-30-0,193) of HALL OF GIANT TV challenged ZEPHYR (52-
2935) (38-11-0,198) of ELEMENTAL FORCE. GRAA ROCKBROW was vanquished by ZEPHYR in a
1 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. Up 5. Zephyr held off the stalwart Graa in
this one, laying the smack down on his rock-candyass. Oops...did I just say that?
WISTERIA (11-3786) (13-1-0,110) of WHAT'S YOUR POISON TV challenged WARPATH (66-
2926) (46-73-3,178) of X-FORCE. WISTERIA overpowered WARPATH in a 1 minute one-sided
Challenge fight. Up 68! So upset about last turn's loss, Wisteria came back strong
with a huge upset victory over Warpath. I guess if you can't beat one of Armalias'
guys, there's always another one, eh Ivy? (Stirring the pot...heh-heh-heh....)
CARNAGE XIX (20-3386) (39-14-1,214) of DEATH STUDS VIII challenged SHIVAA (26-
3523) (90-64-0,217) of WARCKERS. CARNAGE XIX was devastated by SHIVAA in a popular 1
minute uneven Challenge brawl. Up 3. Shivaa is the older and the wiser of the two,
but I must admit my surprise. And I should also mention I lost a bet with some guy
in the stands on this one, too. Too bad, really...I'll miss that horse....
GLEEMAN (11-4009) (32-25-0,202) of CARNIVAL challenged DREAMSLAYER (57-4362)
(48-27-4,203) of IRONY UNLIMITED. GLEEMAN was devastated by DREAMSLAYER in a 1
minute mismatched Challenge match. Up 1. Almost as bad as even, but not quite.
Dreamslayer smacked Gleeman down for his untoward advances. Sorry, Gleeman....
JE SUIS BIEN (26-626) (68-38-0,186) of HEADBANGERS challenged HEATHER (48-3062)
(82-138-7,194) of STARS. JE SUIS BIEN savagely defeated HEATHER in a action packed 5
minute Challenge melee. Up 8. Je Suis Bien wins the fight and the award for this
cycles most annoying name. Heather is just so much simpler.
GIGGY (26-728) (49-49-1,188) of HEADBANGERS challenged BRUENOR BATTLEHAMMER (67-
917) (57-52-1,195) of FORGOTTEN REALMS. GIGGY lost to BRUENOR BATTLEHAMMER in a
popular 1 minute Challenge duel. Up 7. There's Giggy again, still making challenges
and losing. Still not giving me a real good clue as to how his name is pronounced.
Anyone out there know what hockey is?
ASMODEUS (61-2353) (20-7-2,193) of ARCHLORDS OF ASSIAH challenged TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (33-23-0,195) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. ASMODEUS vanquished TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge duel. Up 2. Asmodeus...just sounds
bad, doesn't it? Like a disease or something. Anyway, he was bad enough this time
out, as Talisman was beaten right out of the box.
MARS (52-2609) (80-58-0,197) of INCARNATIONS challenged FIRE MOUTH (25-2478)
(37-28-0,204) of THE NATURALS. MARS savagely defeated FIRE MOUTH in a popular 7
minute gory Challenge melee. Up 7. What is this, we can't see more than one double
digit recognition difference in our challenges? Mars wants me to write about his
since he won, but I won't do it. I'm too tired. I'm too offended by the lack of
courage being displayed here this cycle.
MERCURY (99-780) (43-39-5,182) of WAR SEEKERS challenged GIMETHATSHIELD (26-
1306) (34-22-1,185) of HEADBANGERS. MERCURY savagely defeated GIMETHATSHIELD in a
crowd pleasing 5 minute Challenge match. Up 3. Mercury spent five whole minutes
kicking Gimethatshield all over the white sands of our arena, handing him his <edited
for content> in the end. What, I can't say <edited for content>? Bummer.
IN THE AFTERNOON (82-10018) (14-7-0,200) of SUNNYDALE challenged B. LLUD PITT
(57-1171) (78-70-0,289) of COPYRITENFRINGMNTS. IN THE AFTERNOON was bested by B.
LLUD PITT in a exciting 1 minute Challenge battle. Up 89!!! Thank you, thank you,
thank you!!! In the Afternoon wins out over Wisteria for this turn's biggest
challenge. Thank you for your support of the Core Values in Andorak! All your
drinks are on me for the week...even though you lost to B. Llud Pitt.
MR BLACK (82-5468) (13-5-1,190) of FROM THE RESERVOIR challenged SIRYN (66-2357)
(54-45-0,190) of X-FORCE II. MR BLACK viciously subdued SIRYN in a crowd pleasing 3
minute bloody Challenge bout. Even.
JESUS (82-5459) (24-13-2,200) of RISEN FROM THE DEAD challenged CRYSTAL
FIREBLADE (66-3153) (57-49-0,219) of DEFENDERS OF VIRTUE. JESUS was defeated by
CRYSTAL FIREBLADE in a popular 3 minute bloody Challenge duel. Up 19. A third fight
with double digit rec diff. Crystal, Herald of the King, stood victorious when the
dust settled on this one. Thanks for doing such a great job, Crystal!
STILTS (19-1248) (38-48-3,178) of CARNIVAL challenged PRONTO PONGO (26-3999)
(44-34-2,190) of WARCKERS. STILTS lost to PRONTO PONGO in a 2 minute Challenge fray.
Up 12. Pronto Pongo wins out over challenger Stilts in a boring two minute sleeper.
I know it was a sleeper, because I fell asleep.
     VISION (26-1573) (28-15-2,130) of HEADBANGERS challenged MOJO (66-3401) (33-61-
5,170) of X-FORCE. VISION overpowered MOJO in a crowd pleasing 4 minute gory
mismatched Challenge brawl. Up 40! Vision kicked some big fat butt as Mojo was last
seen face first in sand with Vision's boot <edited for content>. Okay, I give up...
editors....

DOALTY (63-2073) (29-20-0,147) of BAILE BEAG challenged LITTLE BIG BOX (60-4965) (40-
49-2,180) of BOXES. DOALTY was overpowered by LITTLE BIG BOX in a 1 minute one-sided
Challenge match. Up 33! Doalty was soundly thrashed for his challenge, but at
least he a) made a challenge and b) made a brave challenge.
SWEET SWEAT (71-3477) (13-11-0,99) of SCENT OF A WOMAN challenged GOKU (46-3655)
(17-13-2,106) of DRAGONBALL Z. SWEET SWEAT executed GOKU in a 1 minute mismatched
Challenge fight. Up 7. Here is our one kill of the cycle, with Sweet Sweat dealing
the death blow upon Goku. What the Sweet one doesn't realize is that Saiyans get
stronger each time they're defeated, so he better watch out....
AZAZEL (15-2562) (8-8-0,62) of LORDS OF DARKNESS challenged GHOST HUNTER (25-
2669) (19-20-1,70) of THE NATURALS. AZAZEL devastated GHOST HUNTER in a 1 minute
one-sided Challenge contest. Up 8. Even with that little 8-8 record, Azazel put
Ghost Hunter back a pace. Well done.
     GREAT BEAR (74-2851) (15-10-0,56) of TOTEM challenged TEASE-ME (25-4718) (15-12-
1,64) of WINDY CITY WOMEN. GREAT BEAR defeated TEASE-ME in a 1 minute Challenge
duel. Up 8. The Great Bear just doesn't want to be teased, Tease-Me. Try teasing
Azazel, I hear he likes it.
And finally, the random matchup for the title:
PRIMUS BOUND (40-2996) (86-34-0,329) of SUPERIOR FORCES fought WADAS (25-2311)
(42-39-4,273) of BARONE. PRIMUS BOUND subdued WADAS in a action packed 5 minute
gruesome Title bout, continuing his run as the King's Sentinel. He's not in the area
of unprecedented yet, but if he isn't shot off to Primus soon, he will be. Congrats
on another win! WRITE A COLUMN!!!!!

                               PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE

Rillion -- Are you that stupid? You're clearly not paying attention here, otherwise
you'd be aware that people have been nagging me to write columns and personals in
this arena as well. I'll write when I have something to say and/or a quality story
to tell. Anyone who needs to see hurried stories or rambling just for the sake of
rambling can get their fix in the last half of the TOGS competition. -- Manager

Sands -- Dammit!!!! I told them I was to be training SKILLS for that fight. :P --
Wisteria

Khalli Dyr'eel -- You obviously don't know me very well. If I was concerned about
records, I wouldn't run 50% of the warriors I run. I had Wisteria make the challenge
to Sands because he was one of the highest ranked warriors that she could reach with
enough FE showing to have a reasonably good chance to teach her some skills.
Unfortunately, the commission screwed up and had her training WT (her default train).
As for Armalias, I honestly didn't even look at the team name. And I certainly don't
know anything about Sands' career. I can barely keep up with my own warriors, much
less anyone else's. -- Ivy

Geez...I guess I should cut on you manager types more often, if it gets me THAT
kind of a response!!! -- Khalli

Leprechaun -- Never make a snake desperate. -- Pigmy Rattlesnake

Jester -- You have more FE showing than I have total, yet, you could not teach me a
skill either. :P -- Zephyr

Zebrawood -- I wish I could look that good in all my fights! -- Ergot

Jupiter -- You're certainly aptly named. -- Serra Angel

Warlock -- Those aerobic classes I've been taking certainly have paid off! Perhaps
you'd like to join me? It seems you need some help in that area. -- Snowy Owl

Warpath -- Ouch. Considering our height differences, I'm surprised you could hit me
down there. -- Scryb Sprite

A standby! Not what I expected, doesn't anybody love me any more? The voice in the
stands, by the way, was correct. This Rhynian Alanda was--still is--an idiot. Well,
he's an elf, so what do you expect, eh? -- B. Llud Pitt

Positive -- Positively, I figured on winning that one. -- Schendirk

Dreamslayer -- Not MY dreams you don't! -- Leeta Stormrider

Smith -- (gentle sigh) You're rather ordinary, aren't you? -- Pussycat

Goku -- I was warned about the ill-tempered pickle. Ouch! -- Billie Lu

Stilts -- Wait till you meet my two-handed right cross. -- Schendirk

F'A-Krill -- Then you blew it, didn't you? But I'm sure if you work HARD at it, you
can get back down there. -- B. Llud Pitt

Kotton Kandy -- And with the passing of the torch, look at the increase in personal
ads. Too bad the King's Sentinel is too quiet. -- Sablon-O-Vlad

Silent Lucidity -- That was not very nice of you. Just as I was starting to get my
hopes up. -- Little Sister

Jesus -- Jesus! Good fight. Thought I had you. -- Giggy

Mojo -- Man, you are bad, aren't you? -- Gimethatshield

Little Big Box -- Glad I did not help contribute to your manager's 80% win
percentage. -- Je Suis Bien

Khalli -- Doesn't anyone in this arena ever downchallenge? What gives? -- Sablon-O-
Vlad

In answer to your question, yes...there are a select few interlopers who from
time to time vilolate our code of honor here in Andorak and issue a
downchallenge. But that doesn't mean you should follow their poor example any
more than it means I'll sit back and not say anything about it. I WILL say
something about it...DON'T DO IT!!! -- Khalli

Andorak -- I do not belong in the top 10. I should not hold the top style PL title.
Seriously, I'm too old for this. I'm here to coach and provide comic relief. --
Jester, Minstrels

Then try saying something funny...tell us a story...anything! -- Khalli

Heather -- You taught me nothing and kept swinging at me. Why? Why? -- Gleeman

Artemis Entreri -- You stopped that leaping around that you were doing when I scouted
you. -- F-A'Krill, Scout

Zepher -- Good fight. Maybe your turn soon. -- Jester, Minstrels

Pepsi -- After your parry I thought I had you. -- Stilts, Carnival

Azazel -- A tip. Too many "Z's" in your name. Have no idea why but the "Z" is a
negative factor. -- Lady Herbblood

STOP THINKING TOGS!!!!! It's here. Well, almost here anyway. We're looking at
a start date of the first turn in Aradi (DM 60) following the Fall Mail-In. This
should give everyone sufficient time to study the new ultra-improved T#%S IV rules
and prep accordingly. So without further ado, here is your handy-dandy guide to
winning your very own Golden Scrod (and some other very cool prizes to be announced
officially before the start of the tourney that must not be named):
1. Each T#%S team consists of two managers. After the tourney starts, there will be
no switching partners whatsoever, so choose your partners wisely. T#%S IV will
last for 13 turns, so pick a partner you can stand for 6 months or so. The only
team I know of so far is last TOGS winners: Ganolus Oakleaf/Hombre of Blood
Related/Thieves Guild. Hey, this is fun!
2. The T#%S entry fee is 2 team setups per manager. This means 4 setups per T#%S
team. This entry fee is required before the start of the tourney with no
exceptions being made. This is to ensure that nobody gets screwed if a team or
manager decides to back out early. To pay the entry fee either:
    a) send $10 cash/check/money order/ or whatever to me personally at:
       Andy Salveson
       6812 Romanzo Way
       Elk Grove, CA 95758
    b) get RSI to send me 2 team setup gift certificates. Sorry, no credit cards and
no old teams you have lying around will be accepted.
3. T#%S point system:
10 points for winning on your up-challenge against another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on your even challenge of another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on another T#%S warriors challenge.
7 points for winning a random matchup against another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning on your down-challenge of another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning a random matchup against a non-T#%S warrior. Do not fight
your team mate, you will not get any points. Also, you will not get any points
if you challenge or get challenged by a non-T#%S team, so use your avoids
wisely if you think someone is out to get you.
10 points for being the Duelmaster. This is in addition to all points listed
above and will begin turn 1, so prep accordingly.
5 points for every spotlight written by any team member, 1 per manager per turn.
The minimum length of a spotlight to receive points is 1/2 column in the
      newsletter (that's 31 lines-each line 85 characters across) and I will be
completely firm on this. In addition to the length criteria, spotlights will
not be given points if they are in any way plagiarized or if they are not
Duelmasters or fantasy related. I will be the sole judge of this. If you're
unsure if I will judge something to be Duelmasters or fantasy related, then
e-mail me before you write the spotlight and ask me. I reserve the right to
take points away from a spotlight after they are given if I judge at a later
time that the spotlight has been plagiarized.
-5 points per manager per turn every time a manager does not at least write one
      personal ad.
-5 points for being the team that avoided the most.
If you participated in TOGS III, you'll notice some slight changes in the points
structure. The main things are points for random match ups against non T#%S
warriors, bonus points for being the Duelmaster, new spotlight criteria, and no
points given for being the most avoided team.
4. I already mentioned this, but T#%S IV will start the first turn in arena 60 after
the Fall Mail-In runs and it will last for 13 turns. There will not be a
Survivor format this time around, meaning no eliminations. I will still be doing
the multipliers at the end, however. This means that all points accumulated by a
team on turns 10 and 11 will be multiplied by 1.5 and all points accumulated by
each team on turns 12 and 13 will be multiplied by 2.
5. Prizes are yet to be determined, but I'll tell you what I know. There will be
prizes given out each turn to whichever team scores the most combined points on a
given turn. Tie breakers will go to the team with the most wins on that turn and
then to the team with most overall points. I have asked RSI for the same prizes
as last TOGS which were transferring any warrior to arena 60 and renaming Aradi
for approximately 6 months, but we'll see what they come back with. I haven't
decided how to split the prizes up, partly because I don't know how many teams
will be entering yet, but I do know the prizes will be split among the top 3
teams at the end. I will announce the exact breakdown of everything when I know
    more.
6. And just like TOGS III, Death Stud and I will be the sole arbiters of any dispute
that may arise. Whine all you like, but as Nuln told you last time, that's how
    it is.
7. M & RR Clause (go ahead, read between the capitals): I reserve the right to
disallow entry to this tourney if you have a previous history of being a big fat
    mouth about everything.
I think that pretty much covers it. I will be accepting team entries as of now
and then posting them in the newsletters as I receive entry fees. Please feel free
to e-mail me regarding any questions or comments at Ganolus@aol.com. So everyone don
your best pair of leg warmers, hop on your favorite farm animal, and ride to Aradi
for the 4th kinda-annual Tournament that must not be named for no apparent reason
whatsoever, or T#%S IV, for short. See ya'll there!

-- Ganolus Oakleaf, T#%S IV Commish
