Somewhere in the Far West:
"She's sick!" The voice was male, unfamiliar, annoyed. The language was
unfamiliar, too, but Shania understood it. Part of her gift for knowing, she
supposed. The gift had declined of late, as a part of the decay of the Arcanum; that
it had come back in part was doubtless significant...of something. She didn't want
to think about it right now. "A sick woman is no use to us!"
Shania kept her eyes closed, stayed relaxed. The man was talking about her, but
she felt no need to discuss her health with a stranger.
"She's sick because she is closely linked with the Arcanum, and the Arcanum is
sick." A different voice, probably male, but older, tireder. "She is less useful
than she would have been a month ago, but there is no value in lamenting what has
passed. And no one else would be of any use at all."
The first voice muttered what was apparently a curse. Footsteps departed.
"I know you are awake," the tired voice said, "and that you can understand me.
You may as well admit it."
Shania opened her eyes. The man looked to be of medium height and might once
have been physically powerful, but all that was left now was broad bone structure and
withered hide. He didn't appear to be of any race known to her, being bronze-skinned
with a brutal beak of a nose, high cheekbones, narrow black eyes, and iron-gray hair.
His mouth was narrow, almost lipless. The dominant characteristics in his face were
a fierce intelligence and an implacable will. He would make a bad enemy.
"What do you want of me?" she asked idly. She thought it unlikely that she
would help this man in anything, but no harm in asking.
"Your aid in healing the Pillar of the West." A gesture indicated something
just out of her line of sight.
She shifted, noting that she was on a narrow pallet rather than a real bed, far
enough to look in that direction. A massive dark stone had been carved into the
likeness of a man squatting and holding his hands cupped against his chest. Held in
the hands was a sphere of crystal, dull gray in color except as flashes of livid
reddish light shivered across it. The Eye of the West, and barely functional.
"I have little power at present," she said. "What can I do that you cannot?"
"Your power is of no value," the man answered flatly. "The stone is dying
because the spirit that inhabits and animates it is dying. As you are the person
mostly closely attuned to it at this time, you are the obvious one to replace the
dying spirit. By the gods' favor, you may survive long enough for us to find and
attune a younger, stronger woman to assume the burden."
Shania had not expected to be so surprised, but that this old man proposed to
sacrifice her to the stone in order to preserve its function for a few days or weeks
longer came as a shock. "Does my position on this make any difference?"
"No."
"Not even if I know of other ways to stabilize the stone? Non-fatal ways?"
"There are no other ways. If you will not accept your role as the honor it is,
you will accept it anyway. The time for choice is long past."

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
"I just dropped Mrs. Jones off for resurrection," Maserati said as he joined the
others outside the gates of the wall surrounding the courtyard of the White Tower.
"At least she'll b back among the living very soon."
Monica nodded appreciatively as she stood leaning on the limestone walls, eyes
distant and thinking of other things. Maserati had volunteered to go with Deadpool
to deliver Mrs. Jones body to the arena. Deadpool had stayed behind to oversee the
resurrection and assist if need be. Being a Priest of Ahringol did have its
drawbacks, he'd told them with a smile.
"Where's Warlock?" Maserati asked, seeing that only Monica and Renshaw were
there with Prince Mickeal, who was cloaked and hooded against prying eyes.
Renshaw cleared his throat and motioned with his head toward the sky. Maserati
looked up and saw the wizard circling the area from high above, keeping vigilant
watch over them and their charge. After the loss of Prince Rylian, they'd all been
worried over what might happen if the same result came of their rescue of the Crown
Prince.
Monica stepped away from the wall, dusting her cloak and checking her weapons
and armor, making sure they were still gleaming as she moved into the bright morning
sunlight. "Let's get this over with," she said, placing a hand on Renshaw and
Maserati's shoulders. They each grabbed one of her hands and squeezed reassuringly
and made their way through the gate and into the courtyard beyond.
***************************************************************************
Warlock watched his companions until they entered the safety of the White Tower.
Once they were inside, he turned on a wing and sped off to the other end of Andorak
to Commander JRK's guild house to check on Crystal. Deadpool had managed to heal her
enough to stabilize her, but it seemed as though there was something else going on
with her injuries, perhaps something internal that the Priest had been unable to
heal. The trip back had taken better than a week, thanks to Crystal's injuries and
bad weather slowing them down. He was worried beyond the bounds of friendship, and
he wanted to be there when she woke up to tell her just that.
He landed outside the house and knocked on the door. One of the younger
warriors answered, he didn't even know the young man's name and didn't think to ask.
He was escorted to Crystal's room, where JRK himself sat watching over her. The
wizard walked to her bedside and took a seat in the same chair he'd vacated when the
others had went back to the Tower and he'd escorted them from the air.
"I'm going to go get some rest," JRK said after an hour of silence. "If there's
any change...."
"I'll let you know," Warlock replied without looking. He heard the soft click
of the door latch catching and knew that they were alone.
***************************************************************************
Samarra sat with fresh tears on her face, first of joy, then of further sorrow.
Monica had been up-front and as gentle as possible in relating the story of the chase
and recovery of Prince Mickeal; and of the loss of Prince Rylian to the vile
sorceress called Raven. She hadn't said anything about Deadpool's Folstrom comment,
because she wasn't sure she believed it just yet. When they had tried to speak to
Armalias about it at the Sightless Dragon, he had been too busy planning something in
Aruak City and had been unable to talk to them about it just yet. Until she knew
more, she wasn't saying anything to further upset the Governess of Andorak.
"I...I think I need to be alone for a while," the Princess said at last, rising
form her chair in her office. She'd already sent Mickeal off with Squidboy to see
his brother and sister. Squidboy had been given the task of explaining why Rylian
wasn't there; with a promise that she would be there soon to spend much needed time
with the triplets.
Monica, Renshaw, and Maserati all turned to go, making their way quietly to the
door. At the door, Maserati turned to say something, but the Princess had already
moved away and stood with her back to them, gazing out the window and at the Lake of
Mists beyond. Maserati pulled the door shut behind them and they exited the White
Tower to rendezvous with the others at the Monica's guild house, where Crystal lay in
bed recovering.
Sammy looked out the window, the tears gone now as she had cried all of them she
could cry. Raven. The name kept repeating itself in her mind as she stared at the
waves rolling in off the lake. Everywhere she looked, she saw the smiling face of a
woman she'd never met, and wondered if perhaps her mind was gone, or if she was being
taunted by the power of the sorceress, being manipulated through magical means. That
thought stuck with her as she saw the image out of the corner of her eye, again and
again.
"I see you, witch," she said, finally, no longer caring if she was losing her
mind or not. "And I'm coming for you."
<No need for that, pretty Princess.>
Samarra spun on her heel, falling into a defensive crouch as she did so, dagger
flying into her hand almost of its own volition. She hadn't gone anywhere unarmed
since Zarhed's death and wasn't about to let up her defenses now. Before her was an
image of the same dark-haired, dark-eyed woman she'd been sure she was imaging, but
much clearer, though obviously not a real person. "A projection," she said, speaking
to hear her own voice and keep her head straight.
<Indeed.> The response wasn't heard so much as understood...felt. Sammy
refused to let her guard down, circling away from the open window and around towards
her desk where her rapier hung on the wall.
<There is no further need for conflict between us, I assure you.> the voice
intoned in her mind. It sounded remarkably similar to her own voice. <I have
delivered that which I was originally hired to deliver, and now I am here to offer
you...information.>
"The only thing I want from you, is your life, witch," Sammy said, her voice
spitting venom. She had reached her desk and taken her rapier down, replacing one of
the daggers in its wrist sheath. She started to move forward, more than willing to
test this image and see just how invulnerable it might be.
<I know where your son is, Princess.>
Sammy stopped in her tracks at that statement, he curiosity outweighing her
anger. "What did you say?"
<Your son. Rylian, you called him; after the man who forced you to marry Zarhed
in the first place. I know where he is.>
"You killed him," Samarra spat, slashing hard at the image with her sword,
striking nothing but air.
Raven laughed, her image wavering a little as she did so. <Just stop, Princess;
you have not the power to hurt me. I didn't kill your son, or Joakim, either, for
that matter. I simply led your cronies to believe that's what happened. When I
summoned the demons, I took Joakim and Rylian within the protective fold of my robe.
They are both alive and well.>
"You lie," Sammy said, fresh tears flowing down her face despite her fury and
disbelief.
<Your husband's body arrived back in Jurine about the same time I delivered the
young Prince. The same man received them both, Princess. I offer this information
with no price, other than your leaving me be and not sending anyone after me. Do I
have your promise on this, Sammy.>
The woman's voice in her mind made Samarra's skin crawl, particularly the way
she called her 'Sammy'. She was confused and desperate for Raven's words to hold
true, but he couldn't decide how to respond. Everything within her urged her to make
no such agreement. She had the pleasure city of Jurine as a reference point if she
decided to take action at this point, and surely something could be discovered, even
from that.
Raven must have sensed her mind at work, and known where Samarra's train of
thought must have been taking her. <Fine, Samarra; I see I have tipped my hand, so I
will share this information freely and ask you consider its worth against my life.
If you want to send more of you little protectors to take me on, you'll simply get
more of them back in a box.>
She paused dramatically, using the silence to build on the moment and drive
Samarra as close to crazy as possible. <Emir Tehyrek of Jurine has both his son's
dead body, and his grandson's live one, and is on his way back to his home from
Zuwayza. If you want Joakim, I know where he is as well, but I'll save that for
another time.>
With that, the image was gone and Samarra was left alone with her thoughts.
***************************************************************************
Warlock sat with Crystal until well after dark before exhaustion finally caught
up with him. He'd tried a few simple incantations and had somehow narrowed Crystal's
condition down to poison from the blood of the giant bug. When Deadpool had arrived,
he'd been told about it and had countered it after working on a potion for about an
hour. Crystal's breathing had improved almost immediately, allowing Warlock to relax
and fall asleep.
He awoke some time after midnight, his tray of cold food gone from the table
beside Crystal's bed, someone having removed it. He'd heard something with his
sensitive ears, and it had brought him awake instantly. He listened intently for the
sound to come again, and it did...from right in front of him. Crystal moaned softly
for the third time, rolling and stretching in her bed, pushing the coverlet back
revealing her muscled, scarred body beneath the gown she'd been dressed in when
they'd laid her down. Warlock reached out and took her hand, his expression hopeful
and anxious.
Crystal's eyes snapped open and she looked at Warlock, her expression showed
just how dazed and confused she was at that moment, and even a little worried about
the way she was dressed when she quickly scanned their surroundings.
"What happened, Warlock?" she asked, looking into his eyes for a clue. She
looked down to where his hand was still holding hers and grinned a little grin.
"You were knocked out when Deadpool banished Kjarran's minion, that large demon
that you didn't get to face directly. You were poisoned when you were fighting the
giant bug, broke both your arms, and have been unconscious for over a week."
"I guess you all managed to save me, then," she stated more than asked.
Warlock nodded. "And Prince Mickeal," he said. They sat looking at each other
for a long while then, neither willing to break the silence or lose the moment.
"We need to talk...." Warlock said just as the door opened and JRK and their
friends all rushed in.
***************************************************************************
Greetings one and all from the White Tower of Andorak! Princess Samarra has
seen fit to give me a palatial office right here in the Tower, so now all my reports
will be coming directly from Khalli's Dungeon Suites. Just kidding...Sammy wouldn't
ever do that to me...at least I don't think so.
Challenges were issued, accepted, and avoided this cycle. Only 17 challenges,
though...not as many as I like to see. I'll blame the Face-to-Face for the lack of
interested managers...
MAUI WAUI (40-3518) (30-16-0,237) of TACO GODS TV challenged DEMONFANG (6-4891)
(59-49-2,250) of DARK PANTHEON. MAUI WAUI devastated DEMONFANG in a action packed 2
minute mismatched Challenge fight. Up 13. And Demonfang takes a nosedive in the
rankings as Maui Waui simply crushed him! I've been hearing rumors lately about The
Sentinel catching up to Doc Steele...if this was any indication, I'd say the rumors
might be true! Way to go Maui!!! Don't forget to watch your back, though...as I
know that Demonfang will be back, and likely with a strategy just for you....
GRAA ROCKBROW (15-3121) (39-31-0,191) of HALL OF GIANT TV challenged LITTLE BIG
BOX (60-4965) (41-49-2,188) of BOXES. GRAA ROCKBROW was overcome by LITTLE BIG BOX
in a 2 minute Challenge match. Down 3 with a TV challenge?!? Say it ain't so!
Graa, I am severely disappointed. Use your TV challenge to better yourself, not to
pick on someone...oh, wait here...HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You
LOST!!! Now THAT'S just too much fun!!! Little Big Box drinks for free for TWO
cycles for beating the Rockbrow on his TV downchallenge. Too much.... <snicker>
WISTERIA (11-3786) (14-1-0,154) of WHAT'S YOUR POISON TV challenged MANUS (63-
1783) (52-23-1,193) of BAILE BEAG. WISTERIA was overpowered by MANUS in a 1 minute
mismatched Challenge duel. Up 39! Hope you learned something for your efforts,
Wisteria. Thanks for the bold challenge!
NEBBISH (60-1172) (47-56-1,240) of SAILS OF CHARON challenged SHIVAA (26-3523)
(91-64-0,241) of WARCKERS. NEBBISH viciously subdued SHIVAA in a popular 3 minute
bloody Challenge duel. Up 1. At least it wasn't even. Nebbish would like me to
mention just how bloodthirsty he looked out there since that was the look he was
going for, but I just didn't see it. Try smearing some blood on you face and
growling like a dog, Nebbish...it might enhance the image a bit.
CARRIS FALLSTAR (11-3471) (44-36-0,216) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS challenged DIS-
EMBOWEL (63-2025) (35-33-0,247) of DIS-TEAM. CARRIS FALLSTAR was overpowered by DIS-
EMBOWEL in a 1 minute Challenge brawl. Up 31! Another good challenge, but alas, for
a loss. Stay brave, Carris!
PRONTO PONGO (26-3999) (45-34-2,193) of WARCKERS challenged JESUS (82-5459) (24-
14-2,198) of RISEN FROM THE DEAD. PRONTO PONGO was handily defeated by JESUS in a 1
minute uneven Challenge melee. Up 5. Another loss for Warckers. I wish I had more
time to see just how many losses you took this turn.... <heh-heh>
GLEEMAN (11-4009) (32-26-0,196) of CARNIVAL challenged DREAMSLAYER (57-4362)
(49-27-4,218) of IRONY UNLIMITED. GLEEMAN was vanquished by DREAMSLAYER in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge duel. Up 22. Another challenger takes a loss. I guess
you should feel lucky to be alive, Gleeman. I think Dreamslayer is about due another
kill....
CARNAGE XIX (20-3386) (39-15-1,197) of DEATH STUDS VIII challenged FACE (25-
2504) (35-27-5,202) of THE NATURALS. CARNAGE XIX vanquished FACE in a exciting 1
minute one-sided Challenge fight. Up 5. Yet another win for the mighty Sentinel.
Hmm....
JUPITER (44-2554) (43-45-0,181) of SHERWOOD FOREST challenged SIRYN (66-2357)
(54-46-0,187) of X-FORCE II. JUPITER was handily defeated by SIRYN in a exciting 2
minute one-sided Challenge bout. Up 6. I guess your experience in the woods wasn't
quite enough to help you against a creature of the sea, eh Jupiter? Well, actually,
she's an elf, not a Siryn, but it makes a better report if I play off people's names,
don't you know....
JE SUIS BIEN (26-626) (69-38-0,198) of HEADBANGERS challenged ERGOT (53-5009)
(67-93-2,217) of POISONOUS DEMISE. JE SUIS BIEN was bested by ERGOT in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute Challenge conflict. Up 19. Another challenger loss. You know,
before anyone points out that they might have done better to downchallenge, let me
disagree. They should have done better research on their chosen opponents, giving
them the advantages that they would have needed in strategy, weapon, and armor
selection. THAT'S how you win your challenges, up or down (right, Sentinel?); so do
the honorable, Andorian thing and challenge UP!!!
POSITIVE (26-3633) (77-64-0,171) of WARCKERS challenged STILTS (19-1248) (38-49-
3,180) of CARNIVAL. POSITIVE narrowly defeated STILTS in a crowd pleasing 4 minute
Challenge match. Up 9. Ah, a positive result for the challenger...finally...
<chuckle> I'm just glad that the crowd got their money's worth. Thanks, you two!
MRS LIMESCHULTZ (46-2809) (48-48-1,173) of DEATHTONGUE challenged GIMETHATSHIELD
(26-1306) (34-23-1,180) of HEADBANGERS. MRS LIMESCHULTZ savagely defeated
GIMETHATSHIELD in a 3 minute Challenge conflict. Up 7. Another challenger wins!
See, with a little planning and research, anyone can win! No offense, Mrs
Limeschultz, really. No wait, really...no...NO...NOOOOO!!!!!
VISION (26-1573) (29-15-2,163) of HEADBANGERS challenged HUMMEL (14-1404) (38-
71-2,163) of MIKES. VISION won victory over HUMMEL in a crowd pleasing 4 minute
gruesome Challenge bout. Even.
DOALTY (63-2073) (29-21-0,145) of BAILE BEAG challenged QUICHE LORRAINE (46-
3451) (24-15-0,147) of DEATHTONGUE. DOALTY handily defeated QUICHE LORRAINE in a 1
minute mismatched Challenge bout. Up 2. Thanks, Doalty, for gaining me a little
payback on those Deathtongues. Do you know, Mrs Limeschultz actually LICKED me!?!
And a deadlier tongue I've never seen...I'm going to be sick for a while....
STANKLIN P FRANKLIN (60-2934) (36-29-0,85) of NULN IS MY GOD challenged NOT LIKE
YOU'D KNOW (82-7050) (8-10-2,90) of MIKE THE HUNTER. STANKLIN P FRANKLIN was
devastated by NOT LIKE YOU'D KNOW in a 1 minute fight. Up 5. From disgusting dead
tongues to worshipers of Chaos Lords...what will we see here next? Mike the Hunter
seems more like a warrior name than Not Like You'd Know, so why don't you change it?
Or maybe explain the concept to us in a spotlight! Yeah, that's it!!!
GREAT BEAR (74-2851) (16-10-0,67) of TOTEM challenged JOYCE (25-4732) (23-16-
2,67) of WINDY CITY WOMEN. GREAT BEAR was overpowered by JOYCE in a 1 minute one-
sided Challenge bout. Even.
And last, certainly not least, but butt-ugliest:
MARS (52-2609) (81-58-0,212) of INCARNATIONS challenged PRIMUS BOUND (40-2996)
(87-34-0,339) of SUPERIOR FORCES. MARS was overpowered by PRIMUS BOUND in a 1 minute
one-sided Challenge Title fight. Up 127! To no avail, Mars makes his attempt at
glory and falls way short. How did you get beaten so quickly by a TP? Are you
really that bad? Are you feeling a little under the weather? Maybe you should take
a vacation and see the world, or something. Or, maybe, just maybe, Primus Bound IS
Primus bound and we'll be rid of him by attrition. Thanks for playing!!! Later.

STOP THINKING TOGS!!!!! It's here. Well, almost here anyway. We're looking at
a start date of the first turn in Aradi (DM 60) following the Fall Mail-In. This
should give everyone sufficient time to study the new ultra-improved T#%S IV rules
and prep accordingly. So without further ado, here is your handy-dandy guide to
winning your very own Golden Scrod (and some other very cool prizes to be announced
officially before the start of the tourney that must not be named):
1. Each T#%S team consists of two managers. After the tourney starts, there will be
no switching partners whatsoever, so choose your partners wisely. T#%S IV will
last for 13 turns, so pick a partner you can stand for 6 months or so. The only
team I know of so far is last TOGS winners: Ganolus Oakleaf/Hombre of Blood
Related/Thieves Guild. Hey, this is fun!
2. The T#%S entry fee is 2 team setups per manager. This means 4 setups per T#%S
team. This entry fee is required before the start of the tourney with no
exceptions being made. This is to ensure that nobody gets screwed if a team or
manager decides to back out early. To pay the entry fee either:
a) send $10 cash/check/money order/ or whatever to me personally at:
Andy Salveson
6812 Romanzo Way
Elk Grove, CA 95758
b) get RSI to send me 2 team setup gift certificates. Sorry, no credit cards and
no old teams you have lying around will be accepted.
3. T#%S point system:
10 points for winning on your up-challenge against another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on your even challenge of another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on another T#%S warriors challenge.
7 points for winning a random matchup against another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning on your down-challenge of another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning a random matchup against a non-T#%S warrior. Do not fight
your team mate, you will not get any points. Also, you will not get any points
if you challenge or get challenged by a non-T#%S team, so use your avoids
wisely if you think someone is out to get you.
10 points for being the Duelmaster. This is in addition to all points listed
above and will begin turn 1, so prep accordingly.
5 points for every spotlight written by any team member, 1 per manager per turn.
The minimum length of a spotlight to receive points is 1/2 column in the
newsletter (that's 31 lines-each line 85 characters across) and I will be
completely firm on this. In addition to the length criteria, spotlights will
not be given points if they are in any way plagiarized or if they are not
Duelmasters or fantasy related. I will be the sole judge of this. If you're
unsure if I will judge something to be Duelmasters or fantasy related, then
e-mail me before you write the spotlight and ask me. I reserve the right to
take points away from a spotlight after they are given if I judge at a later
time that the spotlight has been plagiarized.
-5 points per manager per turn every time a manager does not at least write one
personal ad.
-5 points for being the team that avoided the most.
If you participated in TOGS III, you'll notice some slight changes in the points
structure. The main things are points for random match ups against non T#%S
warriors, bonus points for being the Duelmaster, new spotlight criteria, and no
points given for being the most avoided team.
4. I already mentioned this, but T#%S IV will start the first turn in arena 60 after
the Fall Mail-In runs and it will last for 13 turns. There will not be a
Survivor format this time around, meaning no eliminations. I will still be doing
the multipliers at the end, however. This means that all points accumulated by a
team on turns 10 and 11 will be multiplied by 1.5 and all points accumulated by
each team on turns 12 and 13 will be multiplied by 2.
5. Prizes are yet to be determined, but I'll tell you what I know. There will be
prizes given out each turn to whichever team scores the most combined points on a
given turn. Tie breakers will go to the team with the most wins on that turn and
then to the team with most overall points. I have asked RSI for the same prizes
as last TOGS which were transferring any warrior to arena 60 and renaming Aradi
for approximately 6 months, but we'll see what they come back with. I haven't
decided how to split the prizes up, partly because I don't know how many teams
will be entering yet, but I do know the prizes will be split among the top 3
teams at the end. I will announce the exact breakdown of everything when I know
more.
6. And just like TOGS III, Death Stud and I will be the sole arbiters of any dispute
that may arise. Whine all you like, but as Nuln told you last time, that's how
it is.
7. M & RR Clause (go ahead, read between the capitals): I reserve the right to
disallow entry to this tourney if you have a previous history of being a big fat
mouth about everything.
I think that pretty much covers it. I will be accepting team entries as of now
and then posting them in the newsletters as I receive entry fees. Please feel free
to e-mail me regarding any questions or comments at Ganolus@aol.com. So everyone don
your best pair of leg warmers, hop on your favorite farm animal, and ride to Aradi
for the 4th kinda-annual Tournament that must not be named for no apparent reason
whatsoever, or T#%S IV, for short. See ya'll there!
-- Ganolus Oakleaf, T#%S IV Commish

To All Managers -- I would like to take this time to announce that my alliance, The
Association, is no more. Due to the dead weight managers of the alliance and their
lack of participation, DarkSpirit and I have formed a new alliance: The Firm. We
have taken on two members so far and are looking for a few more. If you would like
to find out more about The Firm, you can diplo Dark Spirit, Unknowns XX in arena 15
or myself, Sungod, Sadists F2FII in arena 62.
