REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
"We came through the gate okay, but at different locations," Shatterstar
explained, holding his audience captive with his tale. "I was the last through and
the gate closed behind me, but I was more than a little surprised to find myself
alone. A quick look around and I realized I was in an extensive cave complex. I
felt the weight of thousands of tons of rock over my head and worried for the safety
of my companions."
He walked to the window, gazing across the village of Andorak. His gaze was
inevitably drawn to the white walls of the arena, standing atop a high ridge
overlooking the beach and the Lake of Mists. His gaze turned upward to see one of
the mighty rocs that were housed in a great aerie upon those same cliffs that held
the arena.
He turned back, smiling wistfully at Princess Samarra as he continued. "I
honestly feared at that moment, with all the time I'd been away, with all the
adversity my companions and I had faced, that I would never see the white walls and
White Tower of Andorak again. I wasn't afraid of dying, never that; but I feared
never seeing my home again. Never seeing the ones I love."
Sammy blushed under his intense gaze so he turned his gaze back to the others in
the room, eyes moving from one face to another as he paced the floor, his memories as
clear as if he were still there....
Shatterstar made his way down the winding corridor, passing several side
passages but ignoring them in favor of the wider passage he had entered through the
gate. The passage walls were covered in glowing moss that allowed him to see, and
the side passages he'd seen so far were completely black. He had no desire to walk
in total blackness, so he kept to the main passage. He walked for what seemed like
hours, thousands of tons of rock weighing down on his head, his pace quickening to
the point that he was in danger of losing control and breaking into a run. He
finally realized what he was doing and stopped walking altogether, breathing deeply
and slowing his heartbeat.
He resumed his march at a measured pace, falling into himself and reaching out
with his senses to feel the air around him, hear the distant sounds echoing softly
down the corridors, smell the brine mixing with the heady musk that permeated the
air.
Brine?
Phantazia finished the last of the gargoyles in the large room and moved over to
inspect the wounds on Sayn Vann's torso. She nodded to him when she saw the cuts
were superficial, then moved to the door, motioning Camisole to take a look at Sayn
Vann's chest. The door was heavy, oak, and had iron bands across the top, middle,
and bottom of the door. There was a latch set in the door, with a skeleton key in
the lock. She'd seen one of the gargoyles at the door when she'd entered the room,
but couldn't tell if it was coming in and locking the door behind it, or fleeing and
trying to get the door open to get out.
She tried to door and found it secure, then turned the key in the lock. She
felt the tumblers turning in the heavy door and pushed it open after extracting the
key. There were a number of cells off the next corridor, a some of which had moans
coming from them.
"Cells," she said, turning back to her companions. They weren't looking at her,
though, a noise from the corridor outside the room had captured their attention.
Phantazia closed the cell block door and moved to join her two friends as the door
from the corridor opened wide.
Shatterstar found the first signs of battle several minutes after he'd heard the
first sounds. He'd crept silently along the passage for many minutes since he first
heard the shouts and inhuman screams, then moved along in the silence that followed.
He came upon the remains of many gargoyles, their wounds made by fine weapons and
skilled wielders. He knew that at least one of his friends had been here. Once
again, he quickened his pace in an effort to catch up with them. This time, he
remained aware of his surroundings and what he was doing. The sense of dread had
been suffering was lifted at the thought he might soon be reunited with one of his
companions.
Up ahead came once again the sounds of battle. He drew his sword, willing it to
the length of a greatsword, his preferred weapon, and charged ahead, determined not
to miss a chance to link up with at least one of his friends. As he rounded a bend
in the tunnel, he saw the backs of half a dozen gargoyles between him and Jhadzia.
She was hard pressed by the creatures, but had managed to down two of them already.
She was bleeding from a leg wound, and tripped just as he rounded the turn, or seemed
to. As he cried out to Errodan, stealing the attention of the six gargoyles, Jhadzia
shifted her momentum and slashed across with her sword, decapitating one creature and
slamming her blade into the side of the head of another.
Shatterstar's sword flashed to life, flames running up and down the blade, his
cries to his father answered. Dragon's Talon smashed through the feeble defenses
offered by the gargoyles, arms severed and chests cleaved as the elf saw his friend
in danger of being overwhelmed. Three opponents fell to his blade before he noticed
Jhadzia smiling at him, the other three gargoyles lying dead at her feet.
*************************************************************************************
Well, our champions' tale continues to be recounted by General Dayspring and his
friends, and another cycle of fights has occurred, so let us get on with the
results!!!
SIR RICHARD (11-4051) (42-16-0,238) of TUFT TUGGERS challenged RED CEDAR (44-
2451) (38-34-0,245) of SHERWOOD FOREST. SIR RICHARD vanquished RED CEDAR in a 3
minute uneven Challenge battle. Up 7. Sir Richard has an impressive record for a
reason. Red Cedar found that out over those three long minutes. Congrats to the
Knight from Aruak City.
MUCOUS (71-2277) (66-52-2,220) of THE CODA challenged KILIM ALTARAXE (53-6251)
(49-31-0,257) of TORSCHIAN TUFTS. MUCOUS savagely defeated KILIM ALTARAXE in a
action packed 4 minute Challenge fight. Up 37!!! Now that's a right proper Andorian
challenge! Way up there and a win, Mucous! Fantastic job! You drink for free the
week.
POSITIVE (26-3633) (105-80-0,210) of WARCKERS challenged JOE SATRIANI (11-4422)
(27-33-2,221) of THE HEADCUTTERS II. POSITIVE bested JOE SATRIANI in a popular 4
minute brutal Challenge fight. Up 11. Positive was positively brilliant in this
challenge, pulling the win despite being the big underdog.
DAIN BRAMAGE (14-3935) (30-19-2,182) of THE DEATH SQUAD challenged AMILIE
GREYSTONE (57-4002) (39-28-0,206) of MORDYKR KEEP. DAIN BRAMAGE was viciously
subdued by AMILIE GREYSTONE in a 4 minute Challenge brawl. Up 24! Another over 20
point UC. Dain Bramage made my day with this one, too, showing just how brave the
Death Squad can be. Kudos to Amilie on the win, though. Heh-heh.
MARS (52-2609) (92-67-0,203) of INCARNATIONS challenged VISION (26-1573) (57-32-
2,207) of HEADBANGERS. MARS viciously subdued VISION in a crowd pleasing 5 minute
bloody Challenge match. Up 4. Not a big UC, but I'll take all the UCs I can get.
Mars gets the win against and opponent with substantially fewer fights, but hey, it's
a UC, right?
INTENDRID O'REILLY (11-2969) (67-53-0,193) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS challenged
HEATHER (48-3062) (93-173-7,194) of STARS. INTENDRID O'REILLY savagely defeated
HEATHER in a 3 minute Challenge melee. Up 1. Poor Heather. Everyone is always
picking on her. Intendrid gets through this time, and manages to beat the old bag.
Way to go. Not.
STELLA BLUE (53-6167) (35-22-1,191) of PUERCO'S PINATA challenged GIMETHATSHIELD
(26-1306) (56-46-1,201) of HEADBANGERS. STELLA BLUE viciously subdued GIMETHATSHIELD
in a popular 4 minute Challenge duel. Up 10. Gime kept reaching for the shield that
Stella threw on the ground and never had a chance after that. She'd greased the
thing before the match and it kept slipping out of his hand. The Commission is
looking into the tactic and has banned it pending further investigation.
HOMELESS PRINCE (22-6012) (33-23-1,172) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged WARPATH
(66-2926) (60-109-4,182) of X-FORCE. HOMELESS PRINCE vanquished WARPATH in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge fight. Up 10. Homeless had promised Warpath he'd come
back and beat him one day, and one day was today! Congrats to Homeless on the big
achievement (beating his nemesis). Drinks are on Warpath...lol!
LUCIFER (52-3031) (18-17-0,158) of INCARNATIONS challenged SMITH (14-1282) (53-
103-4,159) of MIKES. LUCIFER was savagely defeated by SMITH in a popular 4 minute
gory Challenge melee. Up 1. Smith was too much for Lucifer and would not be beaten.
This was one of the bloodiest fights of the cycle and a real fan favorite.
PYROTECHNICIAN (52-2847) (24-22-1,141) of THE FURIOUS FIVE challenged ERICKA
BEARICKA (63-2461) (22-17-0,149) of MONSTER CHILD. PYROTECHNICIAN demolished ERICKA
BEARICKA in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. Up 8. All those flash bombs
going off during the introductions left too much smoke on the floor of the arena, and
this one was over before the smoke cleared. Pyro took Ericka down with little effort
to earn the win.
And for the King's Sentinel, we have the current title holder challenging his
opponent: PEPSI (68-8510) (63-30-0,262) of OVERWORLD challenged TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD
(11-4304) (53-53-0,226) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Down 36. I won't chastise the top
warrior for challenging down, since that's the only way he CAN challenge, and
everyone deserved the right to control their own destiny. PEPSI devastated TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight. And control it he did,
making short work of the lunger from Aruak City. Poor Talisman can't seem to get his
record above .500, but that's nobody's fault but his manager's. Pepsi,
congratulations on another title win! Let's not forget to do a column (like your
predecessor...).
Until next time we meet,
Khalli Dyr'eel,

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
All -- Ok, what was that? I take some time off to get some sun, and the place goes
dead? Where's the support and love for Andorak, people? A few posts would be nice.
Stir up a topic, role-play a little, or project your real life into some pseudo-role-
playing. Like, hey Managerr...what kind of manager name is Managerr anyway?! ;)
Mine is short for Adeolar, and my full name, Adeolar "Blackwood" Marianka. Half-elf,
female, fiery orange hair, like to wear white, gold, and fall colors. Skilled as a
priestess of the sun, and as a wizard. I'm a goody-to-shoes, because the real person
behind me defines me as a classic role-model with few faults, and high moral and
ethical standards. -- Adie
Adie -- Thanks for trying to stir things up. -- Khalli
Sentinel -- A Sentinel is somebody who guards something, or is protective in some
fashion? How did you get that name, and is there something specific you cherish and
protect? -- Adie
Gladiators and little pieces of paper? -- Khalli
Detective Kellumbo -- I know your name's background from Aruak, but please, fill in
the others here. -- Adie
SOV -- Sablon-o-Vlad, isn't it? Sounds like a vampire to me. What's your story? --
Adie
Generalissimo Puerco -- Literally, in spanish, General Pig? You know, I don't recall
exactly how you got that name! Did Anne help you with that one? -- Adie
JRK -- I know who you are, who the name is based off of, but what does J.R.K. stand
for? Or is it not even an acronym? -- Adie
LHI -- Ok, I should remember this one.... Got a story for us? -- Adie
Lord High Inquisitor, or some such nonsense as that. -- Khalli
Papaiz -- I'm lost for thoughts. You definitely need to help me out on your name's
meaning! -- Adie
Poison Ivy -- I think I've got a pretty good grasp of your manager name. It kind of
comes naturally, I don't know why. Must be something in the 'real world' that is
similar, like a Batman villain, whoever that is. -- Adie
P.S. I know you love everything with a poison theme, why is that?
Armalias Skyhawk -- You used to write a lot. But what's behind the real you. Who is
Armalias, where does he come from. The name has history, I can feel it. -- Adie
Street Legal -- I know you love musicians, but what about your name? Tied to music,
or is it off the top of you head? Details, details! -- Adie
And... I don't know who manages the other couple teams here. -- Adie
Oh, a nice little 4-0 and a 3-0. You see Sentinel, I know what I'm doing! :P~ --
Adie
P.S. I just jinxed myself.
Amilie Greystoke -- Life on the Isle is the pits. I meat a good-looking woman, and
she beats me up. This is not what I thought it would be like, somehow. -- Schendirk
Iriador -- I'll always take a chance to beat up a Ratani. -- Pussycat
Connor Macleod -- Don't quit your day job. -- Skelos
Microburst -- You pushy little guys give me a pain sometimes. -- Daisy January
Lukarian Lamorak -- Oh. It's you. -- Minor Miner
P.S. Thanks for the skills. You never know, I might use 'em.
Sablon-O-Vlad -- What thoughts? I had thoughts? This is news to me. -- Leeta
All -- How'd we do in the tournament? I can't believe I missed another one.... --

Is there anybody in the DM game who is incarcerated that has had to litigate in order
to continue playing? Or anyone in the free world who may be able to help me with
case law or legal advice? The Administration has already taken "D&D type games" from
us once (though I recently had that decision overturned). I believe it's only a
matter of time before they try it again and I am prepared to file a lawsuit if need
be. I enjoy DM and any help that could be offered would be greatly appreciated! I

Ladies and gents...get your teams together and join in on the hottest and fiercest
contest ever to grace the arena sands! Intrigue, personal wars, you name it...we got
it going on! What is this contest? It's the Turf War IV in DM 47, North Fork!!
This fantastic contest was begun by my alliance mate Asmo Dius, and I've picked up
some of the slack. Contest starts on Turn 225 (approx. date June 9th?). It's an
"alliance-type contest", so grab your folks and bring them in for a bang up time.
Rules will be printed in the DM 47 newsletter at least until the contest starts. --

Contest Announcement
====================
It's finally here! ScumFest 2005! The greatest scum in the land of Alastari are
formally invited to participate in ScumFest 2005, a contest involving the scummiest
scum in all of Alastari!
Who: All Scum in Alastari
What: Scum Fest 2005!
Where: Talahya
When: May 23rd, Talahya Turns 490-499
Rules
======
The object of winning ScumFest is to have the longest cumulative time (in minutes) at
the end of the 10th round.
Should there be a tie at the end of 10 rounds, tiebreakers are (in order):
- Head to Head Record
- Win/Loss Percentage
- Average Fight Length
(We'll go into overtime if they're still tied)
There are no other rules. A manager may use any means at his disposal in order to
accomplish his goal. Collusion, hiring Aimed Blows to take out the leaders, etc.
Anything goes!
To enter the scum fest, please write a personal ad in the DM 100 newsletter,
declaring your intention to join the contest, or send an email to managerr@aol.com
Please include warrior name and ID numbers of the contestants. You may enter the
competition up until Turn 494.
Prizes will be announced after the competition begins. The point of the contest is
to prove you have the scummiest scum, and necessarily for a silly prize.
Good luck and Happy Scumming!

SLAUGHTER'S CHALLENGE
I would like to make a formal announcement to all the managers of Alastari that
the inaugural/memorial challenge put forth by Abarsis, The Slaughter Priest (Richard
Hammes) has been approved by the commission. The contest will be held in TROCAR,
arena 54, beginning on the turn that starts around June 2nd. Keep in mind that this
is a slow arena. Before I go on, I would like to personally thank the commission for
procuring an outstanding top prize for this contest. This announcement follows my
last and entry into the contest will be a minimum $5 donation, which I will pool and
give to a charity in the San Diego area in Richard Hammes' name and memory. My
address is at the end. Once the donation is made, I intend to notify RSI of the
charity and amount we donated as a matter of pride for them and us in this game! I
will notify everyone in an all arena ad as well.
The contest is pretty simple. Any team may enter, there are no restrictions on
fight experience! There are no challenges, avoids, bloodfeuds, or tourneys allowed
and only one single use of the Dark Arena is allowed after the contest begins. To
help eliminate any interference, I am going to allow avoids of non-contest teams in
case they are there to manipulate and affect the winner of the contest. Scoring is
as follows:
1 point for winning
1 point for killing (giving 2 in total, 1 for the win and 1 for the kill)
1 point for at least one of your warriors writing a personal (regardless of number of
personals beyond one you still only get one point). Make sure it is written
from one of your team's warriors and not simply the manager entity or you will
not get the point.
-1 point for losing
-1 point for being killed (giving -2 in total, -1 for losing and -1 for being killed)
The contest will last for 12 turns, again beginning roughly June 2nd. May I
point out that if you use your Dark Arena fight you will get either 2 points, for
winning, or -2, for losing, and ALL fights count in the scoring. It matters not if
you fight a non-contest warrior or a stand-in; they still count as much as fighting a
contest warrior. This will be a test of basic strategy with a touch of luck added in
as well.
If anyone should break the no tourney rule they will lose 5 points for each
warrior entered and those warriors, and any subsequent warriors who replace them in
death, cannot score points! Break the no DA, challenge, or avoid rules (except
avoids of non-contest teams) and you will be DQ'd as soon as the transgression is
discovered. To keep the contest playing field as level as possible, we will have no
messing with these rules. Of course you may DA the one time, just as a
clarification, but the second time gets you DQ'd. This also counts if it is found
you bring a second team in for the purpose of making challenges. You can bring a
second team, just don't think they can challenge to give you an advantage. This
means DQ to your contest team. A second team may also enter the contest with its own
donation of $5 and adherence to the rules. Well, enough of that, I'm sure you'd like
to see the prizes so here they are:
1st place - +1 bonus to one warrior on the team, 1 resurrection potion, and 1
favorite knowledge
2nd place - +1 bonus for one warrior, 1 favorites knowledge
3rd place- +1 bonus for one warrior
Iron Manager - Run 54 of the possible 60 fights and get a +1 bonus potion
The resurrection potion may be used on any FE warrior, however the favorites and
+1 bonus potions must be used on a warrior with at least 5 FE. These prizes also
must be used within 2 turns of the ending of the contest. Even those rookie level
teams can figure out a way to use that resurrection potion if you think night fight
;), after the contest of course, so don't think this is only good for experienced
teams! Check your rosters and unused RU's and see if you can't find a reason to come
and test your mettle!
Again, entry fee is a minimum $5 donation, money order preferred method but if
that doesn't work for you we can figure alternate means. If a hopeful entrant
happens to be incarcerated and the only real means of making the donation is an
account transfer, please make sure you let me know where the transfer came from and
which team it is for. I prefer that this only be used as donation method by
incarcerated players unless otherwise discussed with me. Please drop me an email, or
diplo my team in Tobir(14), letting me know you are sending a donation for entry and
the amount so I can be on the lookout for it in the mail. Thanks to all who have
sent their sympathies regarding our game's loss of a kind and admirable soul and my
best wishes to all!
