REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
By what right does that Delarquan wretch, that THIEF, sign his name to MY spy
report? Know, fellow Andorians, that Ketchum did not, and indeed could not, write
that balanced, sympathetic report of your biweekly activities. The oportunistic
scoundrel simply noticed it in the spy reporters' offices and wrote his name over
mine. The very idea! You would get nothing but bias and venom from him, and don't
you forget it. Delarquans... ha! Fiends and double-dealers, every one of them....
And Snide Clemens can share that opprobium. The man has neither charity nor
grace, and he couldn't say a courteous word if you threatened his life. A lot too
fond of his mother, too, if you ask me.
But to business. Kellumbo's ill-disciplined Kids were avoided by Superior
Forces. Doubtless some secret information was at work here, perhaps involving the,
ah, Tower Guardian or whatever the title here desiring to pick his own match.
Perfectly understandbable. He is, after all, a Delarquan, and they are much more
concerned with winning any little considerations of "fairness." Ah... a note was
just passed to me by some officious busybody in the scribal pool here that the
"Duelmaster" is allowed to pick his challenges without regard for the "up, down, or
sideways" aspect. Well, so be it. Where was I? Ah, yes, one team avoiding another.
Well, they will do it. You speak to them of honor and they reply in terms of
"tactics." We warned Lady Greywand that this would happen if the Delarquans were
allowed to go their own ways. But she never listens.
Clovia Shimmermoon got the most challenges, more than the Tower Guardian or, as
I say, whatever he is called here. I did look it up, but someone seems to have set a
coffee cup down on that note, and it is now illegible. It could be ME, because I
don't drink coffee. At least, not until the first frost. There are limist to all
things.
The facts: There were twenty-eight fights, an improved total made possible by
the arrival of a hapless band of Wayfarers from Kati-Tei (they should have stayed
home, as they have little to offer here) and the participation of eight standbys.
Eight standbys is... a large number. It reflects poorly on an arena that only has
twenty-eight fights. Look to it that you do better next time. We don't want the
anarchists over in Free Blades to continue to crow. Only seven challenges, which
says to me that somebody is not making an effort. Try harder. Nobody died, and as a
good Andorian, I have to say that this is a desireable outcome. There will be death
enough at the End of Days, when Lady Greywand calls you all to defend Alastari from
the Legions of Chaos.
We begin with one of the newcomers and a standby, not an auspicious opening, but
there it is. FLUTTERLEE (41-4153) (21-12-0,75) of WANDERERS fought TARIN SHARPEYES
(105-3) (0-0-0,100) of Various People. FLUTTERLEE overpowered TARIN SHARPEYES in an
exciting 1 minute one-sided fight. At least this inexperienced Kati-Teian managed to
win. This would not be worth noticing in a more skilled gladiator, as any skilled
gladiator would EXPECT to defeat a stnadby.
PARNIAN (41-4138) (18-21-1,76) of WANDERERS fought OHRLAM (105-2) (0-0-0,60) of
Various People. PARNIAN was handily defeated by OHRLAM in an exciting 1 minute one-
sided fight. Most of the excitement came after the fight, when Ohrlam was collecting
the vegetables thrown at the hapless newcomer and making extravagant promises of
Surprise Stew. Be warned, Ohrlam's tastes are not to be trusted.
MARS (41-3989) (15-6-0,51) of WANDERERS fought OHRLAM (105-2) (0-0-0,60) of
Various People. MARS overpowered OHRLAM in a 1 minute uneven fight. Nor, for that
matter, shall we trust Ohrlam's staying power. A little thing like winning one fight
and collecting a basket of mixed (and over-ripe) vegetables should not be so
distracting as to cause this loss. It's a disgrace, and it demonstrates all too
clearly why Ohrlam is only a standby and not a true gladiator.
SATURN (41-3990) (16-50-0,98) of WANDERERS fought NYTEMAIR (8-3602) (15-11-2,58)
of CHAMPIONS OF STEEL. SATURN was handily defeated by NYTEMAIR in an action packed 1
minute mismatched bout. Why has this incredible loser, Saturn, even bothered to step
out on the sands? One look at that record will amply demonstrate the nature of his
folly.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (33-26-0,99) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought LURLINE GRACE
(41-4164) (15-9-0,54) of WANDERERS. VAN HELSING vanquished LURLINE GRACE in a 1
minute one-sided fray. A natural outcome. Unchivalrous, perhaps, but chivalry will
not, in the end, protect Alastari from the Legions of Chaos.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (24-50-0,122) of RUBY DRAGONS fought TARIN SHARPEYES (105-3)
(0-0-0,100) of Various People. SOLARIS was overpowered by TARIN SHARPEYES in an
action packed 1 minute one-sided bout. Is there some problem, perhaps, among the
standbys that causes each of them to fight twice? No, I see that it is only these
two. Probably a sign of some wager lost. It may be little known to gladiators at
large, but the professional lives of the standbys are so tedious that they are
generally inveterate and incurable gamblers. They've become a hissing and a byword
on the Isle, but there seems to be little that can be done about it.
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (39-30-1,121) of RUBY DRAGONS fought TAEL KAL (105-
7) (0-0-0,110) of Various People. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN vanquished TAEL KAL in an
action packed 1 minute one-sided match. I heard, I have my sources, that Tael Kal
spoke insulting to his opponent. It could well be so, but I doubt it. Probably some
attempt by another standby to cause trouble. Gossip is often the refuge of the
under-occupied, and it need not be true to eniliven a dull day.
LUKARIAN LAMORAK (11-4841) (50-61-1,121) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought DEATH FOG
(45-4017) (32-14-0,138) of SUPERIOR FORCES. LUKARIAN LAMORAK was overpowered by
DEATH FOG in a popular 1 minute one-sided match. And how can we be surprised, when
it says right here that Death Fog is a superior force? Of course he won.
MEMPHIS (82-29598) (21-9-0,190) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS 26 fought BLACKRAZOR (11-
4091) (57-101-1,169) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. MEMPHIS viciously subdued BLACKRAZOR in an
action packed 6 minute bloody duel. Six minutes? Ridiculous, Memphis! You could
have done it in half the time if you'd just concentrated. Blackrazor is, as his
record shows, a pushover.
CRYSTAL FIREBLADE (66-3153) (119-71-0,194) of DEFENDERS OF VIRTUE fought CADDY
JACKKNIFE (11-4288) (49-27-1,206) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. CRYSTAL FIREBLADE overpowered
CADDY JACKKNIFE in an exciting 3 minute uneven fight. This would have been more
interesting if Crystal had been allowed to actually use a blazing blade in the
battle. Or Caddy a jackknife, for that matter. But the stewards are sticklers about
weapon selection.
IRIADOR (50-2481) (53-37-2,197) of DRUID'S GROVE fought AVALYNE WHYTE (11-3270)
(31-21-1,204) of TUFT TUGGERS. IRIADOR overpowered AVALYNE WHYTE in a crowd pleasing
1 minute mismatched conflict. And then, to the embarrassment of the young lady, he
pulled her hair! Said he was just responding to the imperative of her team name. I
think there was more in it than that, but nobody's talking.
SEGALLION SUNDANCER (11-4600) (43-29-1,195) of TUFT TUGGERS fought SANDS (11-
4123) (58-98-3,183) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. SEGALLION SUNDANCER demolished SANDS in an
exciting 1 minute one-sided bout. The announcer made a "joke" out of this, with
Segallion "demolishing Sands on the sands." If this is a joke, we need to get the
announcer packed off to some beach for a vacation. No doubt Debby Tonte will know of
a good one.
MICHAEL HONORBLADE (11-3300) (138-72-0,189) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (66-78-0,200) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. MICHAEL HONORBLADE
devastated TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD in a 1 minute one-sided brawl. The fight was a bit
short to appreciate, so I will just appreciate the intense Andorianness of the
warriors' cognomens. Or should that be cognomena?
LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (30-23-0,185) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought SALINE LAMORAK
(11-4261) (62-85-0,201) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. LUCIAS CLAY was devastated by SALINE
LAMORAK in an exciting 3 minute uneven duel. A potter friend tells me that using a
saline solution on clay can be truly devastating and lead to explosions in the kiln.
Fortunately, it did not, in this case, lead to a kill in the encounter. We don't
need kills here. Let Desiree down in Darkholm gloat over the deaths.
NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-4992) (47-49-0,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought BERYL (105-26)
(0-0-0,181) of Various People. NIXIE SEASPRITE defeated BERYL in a popular 1 minute
duel. Gossip claims that this was a put-up job between Nixie and Beryl, but I don't
believe it. Who would agree to being hit THERE just to help some OTHER gladiator
approach a winning record?
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (49-47-0,202) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought MASKED
GUILDMASTER (105-6) (0-0-0,201) of Various People. CONNOR MACLEOD was overpowered by
MASKED GUILDMASTER in a 1 minute conflict. Rumor has it that the Masked Guildmaster
is in fact the Obsessed Avenger in disguise. Can anyone confirm or positively deny
this?
JHADZIA SHIMMERMOON (11-3921) (47-40-0,205) of TUFT TUGGERS fought WARPATH (66-
2926) (77-130-4,199) of X-FORCE. JHADZIA SHIMMERMOON subdued WARPATH in a 2 minute
brawl. Ah, another of the announcer's "jokes," this one about Jhadzia "going on the
warpath." A sad effort. I'm sure a vacation will help him enormously.
MAXIMUS (22-5966) (59-37-3,225) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought GOKU (46-3655) (61-57-
2,208) of DRAGONBALL Z. MAXIMUS was viciously subdued by GOKU in a crowd pleasing 4
minute brutal conflict. This is obviously some kind of in-joke, since everyone knows
that, being lizards, dragons don't have ballz. Not even game ballz, as dragons don't
play games. They just eat people, which is unpleasant for the people but proper for
the dragons. In this instance, despite the vicious brutality, Maximus was not eaten.
This is good, as recovering and repairing a gladiator eaten by a dragon can be...
difficult.
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (48-58-0,237) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought JIMI (105-27)
(0-0-0,240) of Various People. VAJRA VALMEJAR was defeated by JIMI in an exciting 1
minute match. Let this be a warning to you, Vajra, do NOT bet with the standbys.
When they win, they extract a terrible price: victory for them.
BRUENOR BATTLEHAMMER (67-917) (111-86-3,320) of FORGOTTEN REALMS fought SOLAR
SISTER (71-5609) (26-8-0,183) of THE FURIOUS FIVE. BRUENOR BATTLEHAMMER overpowered
SOLAR SISTER in a popular 1 minute uneven match. Can you say "gross mis-match"? I
believe this may be the worst today. This is what happens when you neither challenge
nor avoid, so pay attention and use the tools of management made available.
MONICA VIRTUESHIELD (11-3208) (156-61-1,360) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought VISION
(26-1573) (83-44-3,278) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. MONICA VIRTUESHIELD was savagely
defeated by VISION in an action packed 9 minute duel. Obviously, Kellumbo's Kids is
not "the team to beat," but the team to avoid. I have no doubt that after nine
minutes of savage damage, Monica wishes that SHE had avoided them.
The challenge matches: Straight across, up seven, up ten, up five, up four, up
seven, and the title challenge which I will deal with separately.
MAXIMUM EFFORT (82-11013) (15-11-0,98) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1W challenged WARDUKE
(11-5930) (34-44-3,98) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. MAXIMUM EFFORT viciously subdued
WARDUKE in an action packed 1 minute Challenge duel. Hence the recommendation to
challenge: if you pick your opponent and prepare your strategy, and even an underdog
can win.
MICHAEL COOPER (4-5943) (26-14-1,150) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC2 challenged SMITH
(14-1282) (68-126-4,157) of MIKES. MICHAEL COOPER was overpowered by SMITH in a 3
minute mismatched Challenge brawl. Ah, the effect of massive experience. Even a
mediocre gladiator will be hard to defeat when so much more experienced. It's the
"age and cunning versus youth and skill" thing.
CHI'EN HUAN LI (11-3882) (46-49-1,162) of TUFT TUGGERS challenged HUMMEL (14-
1404) (65-127-2,172) of MIKES. CHI'EN HUAN LI slimly won victory over HUMMEL in a
popular 6 minute Challenge duel. A splendid effort for the slim but victorious
Chi'en. I have known some gladiators who were incapable of slim victories and could
only produce fat ones.
VALERIAN (82-17255) (26-11-0,180) of SUPERIOR FORCES IS challenged CLOVIA
SHIMMERMOON (11-4685) (22-9-0,185) of MANIACAL TUFTS. VALERIAN was savagely defeated
by CLOVIA SHIMMERMOON in a 3 minute Challenge fight. This is Clovia the Most
Challenged, and it may be, probably is, that Valerian wishes somebody else's
challenge had gotten through. Such is the life of a gladiator. If you don't
challenge, you risk impressively bad random matches, and if you do challenge, you
risk meeting with someone who is much better than you expected. Some days, you just
can't win.
BATTLING ORCLOPS (27-814) (41-30-0,196) of MAT'S SAVAGE ORCS challenged POETIC
JUICE (66-2975) (46-33-0,200) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY. BATTLING ORCLOPS was savagely
defeated by POETIC JUICE in a 4 minute Challenge duel. Were you aware that Poetic
Juice is the inventor of a rhyming fruit-crusher? Truth, and cause to wish this
nefarious person ill fortune, but so it goes. I believe the mechanism is much
appreciated in Free Blades, and even in actual use by Debby Tonte, who has been known
to lack good taste in her amusements.
ARGUS (82-4056) (14-10-0,229) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1P challenged HOMELESS PRINCE
(22-6012) (57-37-1,236) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. ARGUS was vanquished by HOMELESS PRINCE
in a 1 minute uneven Challenge battle. Never underestimate the homeless, Argus.
They have an edge, because they have less to lose.
For the title: DALLAS (18-6860) (48-42-0,309) of SUPERIOR FORCES 6N challenged
WOLVERINE (66-3871) (50-88-4,218) of X-FORCE. Down 91. But it IS from the throne.
DALLAS devastated WOLVERINE in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight. I would
feel better about this if wolverines were not fur-bearing animals and Dallas was not
talking about "putting together a winter wardrobe."

Civil War/The Crusades
The next edition of the Civil War series is to be held in Tobir, arena 14, beginning
November 25th with a round where all participating managers must DA all 5 of their
warriors; in addition all warriors must be prefixed with an A an F or a D in the
following manner: A-Broke Stroker or (A) Broke Stroker. Names simply beginning with
the letter of your federation will NOT count as properly prefixed! Existing teams
are welcome but no warrior who survives the DA who had prior Fight Experience (arena
or tourney) will be allowed to score or challenge into the contest teams. There will
be an equal number of teams set up for each of the three factions (Andorian, Free
Blades, and Delarquan) to create sides as equal as possible. This along with the DA
round should set up pretty equal footing for all managers. After the DA there will
be another round where you can either DA again or fight your new, or surviving,
warriors so they will be set up to challenge an opponent beginning on round 1. So as
a recap DA round, turn 0, then turn 1 it begins with the following rules:
The Civil War to be held in arena 14.
- The contest runs for 10-28 turns (barring ties).
- No tourney participation allowed. Teams with warriors participating in any
tournament are disqualified.
- An even number of teams per faction worked out by the Faction Leaders. No later
substitutions are allowed.
- If a manager brings in a second team and challenges into the contest he is DQ'd and
his side will fight one team short!
- Three factions will be participating: Andorian, Delarquan, Free Blades
- Everyone prefixes their warrior with A-, F-, or D- (No prefix = disqualification of
the warrior)
- Turn DA: (The DA Round) November 25, 2006. Every warrior must DA. (Warriors not
DA'd on Turn 0 are disqualified)
- Turn 0: December 9th, 2006. There will be no scoring this turn it is meant to
allow for challenges on turn 1.
- Turn 1+: Scoring as detailed below
- Each team gets 1 point for defeating a warrior from an opposing team.
- Fights against warriors on your team do not generate points in any situation.
- The team with the most points each turn gets a Battle Point (if there is a tie for
the most points then no Battle Points are accrued)
- The first team to 10 Battle Points wins the war
- Managers of teams on the winning side each receive a +1 bonus potion to be used on
a warrior on their contest team. This must be applied within a month of the
conclusion of the contest and the team must have been active on the last turn of
the contest.
Anyone wishing to participate, and feels they can probably stick around for the
duration (don't want to handicap a side, of course unforeseeable events cannot be
planned for), should either diplo me at THE DEATH SQUAD(63) in Tobir (arena 14) or
place a personal ad in the arena. You may also contact me via the Duel2.com boards!
Let me know which faction you would like to fight for! This contest is intended to
be open to ALL managers wishing to pit themselves against each other to try and
determine which faction has the best managers! -- Street Legal

I am back in the arena and thinking back to those days in 1984 where I was a
novice and clueless manager.
Now, 22 years later it looks like I am an ancient and once again clueless
manager.
I am looking to recover some old warriors. Since none of them are Aimed Blows,
they are no threat to win anything. I just want to see how they turned out.
The Couatl 2-17
Madam Butterfly 20-701
Gypsy Moth 20-703
King Crab 21-1
Priestess Python 26-1388
Please contact me at DekeYoung@Comcast.net if you know about any of these ancient
warriors, or just want to bs about the old, old, old times.

It is obvious that the Dark Knights wish to be shown the light. Allow me to step
forward and blind them with truth. YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!! The Dark Knights are so
afraid of the light that they hide behind their black armor and empty threats. It is
too bad they are unwilling to actually FIGHT us! I guess our natural light is too
bright for you all to face! Fear us, for we are here! -- Gemini Goldphoenix,
