REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Twenty-three fights on a gray day at the bottom of the year. Well, it could be
worse, I suppose. Give me a couple of hours and I'll figure out how. Oh, no, wait,
I can do it faster, it could be SNOWING. Brrr!
But it isn't, so let's take a look at what we've got here. We've got Kellumbo's
Kids exercising their Commission-given rights to pick their fights, avoiding the
Maniacal Tufts and challenging people. What will they think of next? Nobody else
avoided, nobody else challenged. Well, if that's the way you all want to be about
it, there it is.
Wait, I mis-spoke. The manager of The Plague, sorry I don't have your name at
my fingertips, was also using his management tools. Congratulations, sir or madam.
Warpath got the most challenges. It must be that target painted on his armor.
Twenty-three fights, five of them involving standbys, which means forty-one
active warriors. This is UP! Great, really great, keep on doing this, whoever is
out there.
Nobody died.
There were six challenges issued.
Without further ado (I'm saving the ado for a bigger audience), the fights:
PARNIAN (41-4138) (18-24-1,55) of WANDERERS fought SOLARIS (46-3759) (24-53-
0,83) of RUBY DRAGONS. PARNIAN demolished SOLARIS in a 1 minute gruesome one-sided
fight. Okay, Parnian has earned a non-slighting comment here. Ah, let me think.
How about, "Good work, Parnian, and keep practicing, because this guy was a
pushover"?
SATURN (41-3990) (16-53-0,57) of WANDERERS fought SHINORR (105-1) (0-0-0,60) of
Miscellaneous Staff. SATURN was handily defeated by SHINORR in a crowd pleasing 2
minute gory uneven duel. Saturn should come from a team named Losses R Us. Can
nothing be done for this warrior? For instance, retirement?
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (35-27-0,116) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought TARIN SHARPEYES
(105-3) (0-0-0,100) of Miscellaneous Staff. VAN HELSING vanquished TARIN SHARPEYES
in a 1 minute one-sided match. That always tweaks Tarin's temper, and he becomes
Tarin Sharptongue. Good thing I don't have to hang out with him between fight days.
LUKARIAN LAMORAK (11-4841) (51-63-1,127) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought FLUTTERLEE
(41-4153) (23-13-0,113) of WANDERERS. LUKARIAN LAMORAK viciously subdued FLUTTERLEE
in a popular 1 minute gory contest. This is what happens when young warriors climb
the ranks too fast. It's called "dues." Or by some people, "mis-match." Although I
note that the clerks didn't call it a mis-match. Odd. Maybe there's something TO
this Flutterlee person.
WARDUKE (11-5930) (36-45-3,103) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought SONIC TACO (30-
4337) (29-24-1,135) of TRIP OUT. WARDUKE overpowered SONIC TACO in a 1 minute
mismatched fight. This is, obviously, not the Most-Challenged Warduke, that's a
different one. A tad confusing to have two warriors with the same name here, but
that does happen.
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (41-31-1,152) of RUBY DRAGONS fought BERYL (105-26)
(0-0-0,181) of Miscellaneous Staff. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN was overpowered by BERYL in
an exciting 1 minute one-sided match. And no doubt this comes under the heading of
"Was my face red!" for Khorne. And, yep, as I look more closely (opera glasses), it
IS red.
SANDS (11-4123) (58-101-3,177) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought DEATH FOG (45-4017)
(33-16-0,147) of SUPERIOR FORCES. SANDS was devastated by DEATH FOG in a 1 minute
one-sided brawl. Interesting, I thought death fogs were outlawed as "proscribed
weapons of war," not that anyone listens when they REALLY want to make war. But the
key question here, to my mind, is, Did Sands get buriend in the sands? And if so,
how do you separate him out again? Or should we even try?
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (49-60-0,192) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought HUMMEL (14-
1404) (67-128-2,169) of MIKES. VAJRA VALMEJAR was overcome by HUMMEL in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute bout. This is the life of storage arena: Fights between fossils
and graybeards, and nobody paying attention except me, and me only to sneer. Okay,
sneering is, perhaps, a little unkind, a dirty job, one might even say, but
somebody's got to do it. So why not me? It can be fun. Trust me on this.
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (49-50-0,184) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought SOLAR SISTER
(71-5609) (27-10-0,193) of THE FURIOUS FIVE. CONNOR MACLEOD lost to SOLAR SISTER in
a crowd pleasing 2 minute gruesome bout. Never fight with a sister, Connor, they
don't fight fair. I've been told it's a "sister thing," and I believe it. You
should see MY sister.
GOKU (46-3655) (63-58-2,194) of DRAGONBALL Z fought MEYK (105-24) (0-0-0,250) of
Miscellaneous Staff. GOKU savagely defeated MEYK in a crowd pleasing 2 minute gory
conflict. Easy for the crowd to be pleased, they don't have to put up with Meyk
stomping around the office making unsupportable statements about the conduct of the
match.
CADDY JACKKNIFE (11-4288) (50-29-1,190) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS fought TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (66-81-0,198) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. CADDY JACKKNIFE bested
TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD in an exciting 3 minute bloody battle. So, the jackknife is
more powerful than the talisman? This is good to know: adventurers take note.
Compact and easily carried, too, although not on airplanes. Ah, but you don't know
what airplanes are, do you? Cherish your good fortune in that!
SMITH (14-1282) (70-127-4,186) of MIKES fought SALINE LAMORAK (11-4261) (63-87-
0,203) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. SMITH was demolished by SALINE LAMORAK in a crowd
pleasing 3 minute mismatched match. Not to be wondered at. We all know how
corrosive saltwater can be.
MICHAEL HONORBLADE (11-3300) (141-72-0,226) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought BRUENOR
BATTLEHAMMER (67-917) (113-87-3,190) of FORGOTTEN REALMS. MICHAEL HONORBLADE was
handily defeated by BRUENOR BATTLEHAMMER in a 1 minute bout. I suspect there may be
some dark comment on the times concealed in this, but this is not the evening for me
to delve after dark comments. You'll have to imagine your own.
MONICA VIRTUESHIELD (11-3208) (158-62-1,215) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought POETIC
JUICE (66-2975) (47-35-0,188) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY. MONICA VIRTUESHIELD vanquished
POETIC JUICE in an exciting 1 minute one-sided fight. And without even resorting to
limericks! This is indeed remarkable. For other reasons, too, since I'm being PAID
to remark, but... ah, well. I won't call Monica a graybeard, since it is clearly of
the finest golden hue, but isn't it time she moved on? Don't ask me where, I'm not a
travel agent. But we really need something to challenge these, ah, very experienced
warriors.
LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (32-24-0,223) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought NIXIE SEASPRITE
(11-4992) (49-50-0,208) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. LUCIAS CLAY slimly won victory over
NIXIE SEASPRITE in an action packed 2 minute fight. Was Lucius slim? Was Nixie? I
hear that water-dwellers put on fat in the autumn, in order to provide insulation
against the icy waters of winter. Not an enticing image, but one must be practical,
I suppose, since neither is it enticing to think of a seasprite blue and shivering
with cold. Are they subject to hypothermia, I wonder?
IRIADOR (50-2481) (56-37-2,250) of DRUID'S GROVE fought MEYK (105-24) (0-0-
0,250) of Miscellaneous Staff. IRIADOR won victory over MEYK in an action packed 2
minute duel. And here is Meyk losing again. He's a loser. We all know that.
Except him.

(16-8-0,63) of WANDERERS. Down 16. GRANDPA RAT was devastated by MARS in a 1 minute
mismatched Challenge match. A mis-judgment, Grandpa? It happens. You find a
warrior who looks easy, and... he isn't. Such is life in the arena.
BLIND GIRL (22-6041) (24-7-0,90) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged LURLINE GRACE
(41-4164) (15-12-0,56) of WANDERERS. Down 34. Is this an effort to generate
personals? If so, it's appreciated, but probably futile. BLIND GIRL outwaited
LURLINE GRACE in a popular 12 minute Challenge duel. How can a match that lasts
twelve minutes be popular, you ask? Well, when you involve two women, wearing little
enough that you have to wonder about the risk of frostbite, and the vendors come
around with warm wine, well... that'll do it.
VISION (26-1573) (85-45-3,197) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged BLACKRAZOR (11-
4091) (59-102-1,204) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 7. VISION savagely defeated BLACKRAZOR
in an exciting 4 minute bloody Challenge fight. Shave him close, Vision! Slice and
dice him! Ahem, ah... well, I just have this thing about cutthroat razors. And you
know that's the kind we're looking at, with all that scarlet blood around.
DEAD OF WINTER (41-970) (30-24-2,189) of THE PLAGUE challenged WARPATH (66-2926)
(77-133-4,198) of X-FORCE. Up 9. DEAD OF WINTER was vanquished by WARPATH in a 1
minute mismatched Challenge brawl. This is most-challenged Warpath, and I wish we
could take his victory here as an omen for the season to come, ie, winter vanquished.
But... I think not.
HOMELESS PRINCE (22-6012) (59-38-1,196) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged WOLVERINE
(66-3871) (50-91-4,210) of X-FORCE. Up 14. HOMELESS PRINCE demolished WOLVERINE in
a popular 1 minute one-sided Challenge melee. So, does this mean that Wolverine is
out in the cold, and the Prince is moving into his quarters? Lair or den or whatever
they use.
MEMPHIS (82-29598) (23-10-0,195) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS 26 challenged CRYSTAL
FIREBLADE (66-3153) (122-71-0,257) of DEFENDERS OF VIRTUE. Up 62. MEMPHIS was
viciously subdued by CRYSTAL FIREBLADE in a 1 minute Challenge fight. Looking at the
difference in visible experience and ranking here, I can't say that I'm surprised at
the outcome. But I salute Memphis's guts. Which were all over the arena.
And for the title: DALLAS (18-6860) (51-42-0,346) of SUPERIOR FORCES 6N fought
CRISSY (11-4993) (38-22-4,297) of VIEW ASKEW. DALLAS handily defeated CRISSY in a 1
minute uneven Title fight. Rather a ho-hum encounter, but we take the encounters we
get.

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Flutterlee, Ardane, anyone -- Flutterlee made a reasonable request for more
inexperienced warriors in Andorak, and I think such an infusion would make things
more interesting. Looking at the rankings, it's clear that far too many warriors are
pooling in one particular category. Why? Of the three warriors I currently have
active here, one is far less experienced than the other two. That inexperienced
warrior is still eligible for Home Guard, yet she is stuck in the same category as
the other two. I didn't go out of my way to have her challenge competitively, in a
way that would make her fly up the rankings, either. I can only think that this has
something to do with the "legacy" warriors that camp at the top of the rankings
forever. I'm not sure what makes me say that, call it intuition perhaps. And now
the eligibles bar has been raised significantly... Perhaps it was moved in the wrong

There are times, lots of them, when I think there are simply too many warriors
here on the Isle. But without mandatory retirement and/or the creation of new
Advanced arenas, this accumulation is going to continue. And I can't blame the
managers who have labored to get a warrior to the Isle and then want to run him.
That's what it's all about. Just... there are so many after twenty years.

means nothing to the other managers' decisions whether to contribute to the personal
