REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Yes, well, here we are again, and doing rather better than we have for some
time. There were twenty-four fights! True, five of them involved standbys, but I
won't tell if you don't. At least the standbys were THERE, even if they don't write
columns. So, let's see what we have besides that.
Hmm. Twenty-four fights with five standbys. Five challenge matches, one of
them an actual TV challenge. One warrior DIED, you'd think this was Darkholm!
The greatest point gain, not something that the scribes always dig out for me,
was made by Sonic Taco.
Wanderers were avoided by Kellumbo's Kids.
Crystal Fireblade got the most challenges.
Our top warrior last time, euphemistically called the King's Sentinel (whose
first allegiance is, of course, to Lady Sheila of the Grey Wand, and make no mistake
about that), where was I? Ah, right, Dallas lost the title by default and not
fighting. Or, just possibly, being booted to Primus, I don't know yet.
Yes, you heard that correctly. The Split has moved among us, picking out
certain of our more proficient gladiators and taking them away to the bourne whence
no gladiator returneth. Sad, of course, the old familiar faces gone. Not that
they're actually GONE, since Primus is fought in this very arena a mere three days
after Andorak.
What, you thought there were SEPARATE STRUCTURES for every Advanced arena? Not
a chance. Do you know how much it costs to build and maintain an arena? Talahya,
Home Guard, Primus, Andorak, and Crysalis all use the same structure. Except, of
course, when some fight runs WAY too long and messes up the schedule. Darkholm is
down in Willow Beach in an incredibly baroque wreck, and Free Blades has moved down
to use Lirin Kiv's rather newer structure. But other than that, this arena, here in
Talahya, does for us all. So, remember, if you find something damaged or missing in
the physical plant here, it was probably those bums in Home Guard who did it!
But enough of that, to the fights.
MARS (41-3989) (17-8-0,88) of WANDERERS fought TARIN SHARPEYES (105-3) (0-0-
0,100) of Assorted Louts. MARS was demolished by TARIN SHARPEYES in a 1 minute one-
sided melee. What a wimp. You'd think with a, pun intended, martial name like Mars,
this gladiator could give us a better showing. Ha!
SATURN (41-3990) (16-54-0,48) of WANDERERS fought YOGONITH (105-5) (0-0-0,90) of
Assorted Louts. SATURN was savagely defeated by YOGONITH in a popular 2 minute gory
duel. Ah, yes, but we EXPECT Saturn to lose. Look at that record! And everyone
knows that Saturn is by nature leaden, and everyone runs rings around him.
NIPPLES RUSSELL (53-5681) (32-27-1,89) of ON THE PILL fought PARNIAN (41-4138)
(19-24-1,79) of WANDERERS. NIPPLES RUSSELL demolished PARNIAN in an action packed 1
minute brutal one-sided fight. I wonder if the record could have squeezed another
adjective into that description? Only four... piffling. Not really trying.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (24-54-0,59) of RUBY DRAGONS fought SHADOW OUT OF TIME (41-
1622) (20-16-1,77) of THE PLAGUE. SOLARIS was handily defeated by SHADOW OUT OF TIME
in a 1 minute one-sided contest. Does this make the Shadow a sort of eclipse? It
was only partial, but intriguing none the less for that. All the people's heads were
throwing crescent-shaped shadows, which just proved what I already knew, which was
that their heads were empty and void.
WARDUKE (11-5930) (37-45-3,132) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought THE COMMUNITY GUY
(53-2043) (29-35-3,145) of ON THE PILL. WARDUKE was narrowly defeated by THE
COMMUNITY GUY in an action packed 1 minute fray. This looks like it could be, or
could be made to be, some kind of social comment. Listen, this is a gladiatorial
arena, where people chop each other up for pay while other people pay to watch. We
don't do social comment here. It is not, as they say, our bag.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (36-27-0,122) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought TYLARRA (105-
23) (0-0-0,150) of Assorted Louts. VAN HELSING defeated TYLARRA in an exciting 1
minute duel. "Exciting"? Who was excited? I wasn't excited. I was bored. The
fight was so short, actually, that there was barely time to frame the CONCEPT of
"bored" before it was over. Oh, well. The fight reporters are given to hyperbole,
which is understandable, I suppose (though not excusable), since they have to keep on
saying things about fights dozens of times a day, and oftener when Talahya or Primus
runs.
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (41-32-1,149) of RUBY DRAGONS fought AYLIA (105-4)
(0-0-0,130) of Assorted Louts. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN bested AYLIA in a popular 1 minute
contest. At least we're seeing a few fresh faces among the standbys. That is
entertaining for us; the old ones were looking more than a little shopworn.
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (49-61-0,176) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought SQUEEZE A
WALNUT (53-5164) (33-49-1,149) of ON THE PILL. VAJRA VALMEJAR savagely defeated
SQUEEZE A WALNUT in a popular 2 minute bloody match. This one has a puzzle. Setting
aside, for now, that I have never met this "Pill," and I am not at all sure I want
to, why would anyone squeeze a walnut? It sounds like a singularly unrewarding
process.
WARPATH (66-2926) (78-133-4,209) of X-FORCE fought MASKED GUILDMASTER (105-6)
(0-0-0,201) of Assorted Louts. WARPATH was overpowered by MASKED GUILDMASTER in an
exciting 1 minute one-sided bout. Rather an amusing outcome!
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (49-51-0,187) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought MR.
PALLYBUDDY (53-5163) (40-41-1,169) of ON THE PILL. CONNOR MACLEOD handily defeated
MR. PALLYBUDDY in a 1 minute mismatched bout. Yes, well, anyone who's been around
here for long knows that "good buddies" and Connor MacLeod do not go together.
TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (66-82-0,198) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought POETIC
JUICE (66-2975) (47-36-0,205) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY. TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD was
vanquished by POETIC JUICE in a 1 minute mismatched bout. And I salute the event.
There is, indeed, something poetic, not to mention juicy, about this encounter.
MICHAEL HONORBLADE (11-3300) (141-73-0,192) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought
WOLVERINE (66-3871) (50-92-4,194) of X-FORCE. MICHAEL HONORBLADE overpowered
WOLVERINE in a popular 1 minute mismatched conflict. And well done, too. It is
widely known that wolverines, as a species, are not closely acquainted with honor.
DEAD OF WINTER (41-970) (30-25-2,181) of THE PLAGUE fought SANDS (11-4123) (58-
102-3,157) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. DEAD OF WINTER was devastated by SANDS in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided battle. Presumably Winter, I find myself unwilling to
call this warrior "Dead," bad omen and all that, will gain skills or other abilities
and turn this matter around. And I feel sure Sands will be accomodating, since he is
experienced at losing.
VISION (26-1573) (86-45-3,207) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-
4992) (49-51-0,198) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. VISION was savagely defeated by NIXIE
SEASPRITE in a crowd pleasing 2 minute match. Ah, the old "throw salt water in their
eyes, and they won't be able to see visions" trick.
HOMELESS PRINCE (22-6012) (60-38-1,209) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought BLACKRAZOR
(11-4091) (59-103-1,206) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. HOMELESS PRINCE was overcome by
BLACKRAZOR in a popular 2 minute bout. Does this mean, can it possibly be, that the
Prince is now clean shaven? No beard, no mustache, no eyebrows or eyelashes, not
even any hair on top of his head? Blackrazor has that kind of reputation.
SMITH (14-1282) (70-128-4,181) of MIKES fought GOKU (46-3655) (64-58-2,205) of
DRAGONBALL Z. SMITH was vanquished by GOKU in an exciting 1 minute one-sided fight.
Define "exciting," and you will NOT find this fight meeting the qualifications.
Sorry, but there it is.
HUMMEL (14-1404) (68-128-2,187) of MIKES fought DEATH FOG (45-4017) (34-16-
0,173) of SUPERIOR FORCES. HUMMEL lost to DEATH FOG in an action packed 1 minute
fight. I rather liked the part where Hummel lay on the sands chocking and twitching
under the effect of that strangling fog. But then, I don't particularly like Hummel,
so I may be just a tad biased here.
LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (33-24-0,231) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought SOLAR SISTER (71-
5609) (28-10-0,199) of THE FURIOUS FIVE. LUCIAS CLAY viciously subdued SOLAR SISTER
in an action packed 1 minute gruesome melee. Seriously, Lucias, do you really want
us to think of you as someone who would beat up a sister? Your own or any other.
That seems so... Delarquan. Even when they're extremely annoying, a private reproof,
perhaps locking them in the cellar or a handy storeroom, would be more appropriate or
at least less public.
MONICA VIRTUESHIELD (11-3208) (159-62-1,229) of KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE fought CADDY
JACKKNIFE (11-4288) (51-29-1,202) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. MONICA VIRTUESHIELD
devastated CADDY JACKKNIFE in a 3 minute mismatched match. A devastating woman,
Monica, as some of her more pressing dates have found.

GRANDPA RAT (22-6549) (22-9-1,63) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged LURLINE GRACE
(41-4164) (15-13-0,68) of WANDERERS. Up 5. GRANDPA RAT bested LURLINE GRACE in a
popular 6 minute Challenge duel. SIX minutes? What have you been doing, Grandpa?
You should have taken that young Grace down much faster! I fear you have been
slacking off in the training.
BLIND GIRL (22-6041) (25-7-0,92) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged LUKARIAN LAMORAK
(11-4841) (52-63-1,134) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 42. A bold challenge by someone who,
perhaps, could not see what she was getting into. BLIND GIRL luckily beat LUKARIAN
LAMORAK in an exciting 2 minute Challenge fight. Or then again, perhaps she could
see very well.
SONIC TACO (30-4337) (29-25-1,109) of TRIP OUT challenged FLUTTERLEE (41-4153)
(23-14-0,112) of WANDERERS. Up 3. SONIC TACO savagely slew FLUTTERLEE in a crowd
pleasing 6 minute Challenge duel. Again six minutes, this time to the death! I knew
there was something WRONG with those tacos, but I never expected it to be fatal.
Stick to hamburgers after resurrection, Flutterlee.
CRISSY (11-4993) (38-23-4,193) of VIEW ASKEW challenged IRIADOR (50-2481) (57-
37-2,258) of DRUID'S GROVE. Up lots, where is my calculator? Why didn't the scribes
figure this one out for me? Up 65. CRISSY was demolished by IRIADOR in a 1 minute
one-sided Challenge melee. Not remarkable, but very daring. I salute Crissy for
courage and determination if not for good sense.
And for the title, in the absence of former Sentinel Dallas, MEMPHIS (82-29598)
(23-11-0,205) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS 26 TV challenged CRYSTAL FIREBLADE (66-3153) (123-
71-0,269) of DEFENDERS OF VIRTUE. Up 64, and a TV challenge at that. Our
congratulations to Memphis for having the said TV challenge and using it. MEMPHIS
was bested by CRYSTAL FIREBLADE in a 2 minute Challenge Title fight. And our
congratulations to Crystal Fireblade for winning and achieving the pinnacle of
Andorak.
