REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
This is totally unacceptable. Only one fight today was action packed, and only
two were exciting! How can we draw the fans without more "thrills and chills," more
blood and gore (crowds are notorious for their bloody tastes)? I looked for an
explanation of this lack of action and excitement and found that NINE standbys fought
today. Yes, fine, it's quite true that the standbys also need practice and a chance
to "do it for real." But not all at once!
We had twenty-three fights today, which, with nine standbys, means only thirty-
seven active warriors. Sad, but not unexpected. Nobody died. Five challenges.
Superior Forces was or were avoided by Kellumbo's Kids. Caddy Jackknife got the most
challenges... from, you guessed it, Kellumbo's Kids.
So much for the introductory materials, on to the fights.
SATURN (41-3990) (16-56-0,54) of WANDERERS fought SHADOW OUT OF TIME (41-1622)
(22-16-1,86) of THE PLAGUE. SATURN was overpowered by SHADOW OUT OF TIME in a 1
minute one-sided match. Haven't we just HAD this fight? Yes, okay, random match,
maybe it amuses the handicapper, Harlogen Dri'ith. The gods know his tastes are
strange.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (24-56-0,54) of RUBY DRAGONS fought MARS (41-3989) (18-9-0,85)
of WANDERERS. SOLARIS was vanquished by MARS in a 1 minute mismatched fray. This
will have Mars boasting of his dragon-subduing prowess, but we can live with that, I
think. Surely better than with his sulking.
LURLINE GRACE (41-4164) (15-15-0,63) of WANDERERS fought TARIN SHARPEYES (105-3)
(0-0-0,100) of Gentlemen from the Stands. LURLINE GRACE was demolished by TARIN
SHARPEYES in a 1 minute uneven bout. And the Grace-ful one slides into the shadowy
realm of uncontestably losing records. Hmm. I don't usually go all poetic like
that, do you suppose it's something in the air? A lack of oxygen, perhaps.
WARDUKE (11-5930) (38-46-3,132) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought LAWRENCE THE SOT
(105-10) (0-0-0,150) of Gentlemen from the Stands. WARDUKE overpowered LAWRENCE THE
SOT in a 1 minute uneven fight. And so we urge you all, find out what Lawrence was
drinking and avoid the horrid stuff. It is obviously unsuitable for gladiators. I'm
not even sure where he gets it, you know. Lawrence disappears for days on end.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (38-27-1,166) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought TYLARRA (105-
23) (0-0-0,150) of Gentlemen from the Stands. VAN HELSING handily defeated TYLARRA
in a 1 minute mismatched competition. The notes, however, don't say whether he did
it right-handedly or left-handedly, and from my position in the Spy Reporter's Box, I
was unable to see for myself.
DEAD OF WINTER (41-970) (30-27-2,166) of THE PLAGUE fought FLUTTERLEE (41-4153)
(23-16-0,101) of WANDERERS. DEAD OF WINTER overpowered FLUTTERLEE in a 1 minute one-
sided match. And, frankly, I would expect the dead of winter to overpower just about
anybody. I certainly wouldn't care to take it on myself! Not a DEAD winter.
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (43-32-1,160) of RUBY DRAGONS fought TESSHIAN (105-
22) (0-0-0,181) of Gentlemen from the Stands. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN subdued TESSHIAN in
a 1 minute bout. You'll notice we're seeing standbys out here that haven't fought in
months. It's because this is the last occasion before the solstice when they COULD
fight, and there is a stipulation in their contracts requiring "attendance on the
sands in each half of the year" if they want their contracts renewed.
SOLAR SISTER (71-5609) (29-11-0,199) of THE FURIOUS FIVE fought CRISSY (11-4993)
(39-24-4,202) of VIEW ASKEW. SOLAR SISTER was devastated by CRISSY in a 1 minute
one-sided fight. If, just to ask a hypothetical question, a Solar Sister is
devastated, does that explain the Death of Winter? Not enough sunlight?
WOLVERINE (66-3871) (50-94-4,200) of X-FORCE fought BERYL (105-26) (0-0-0,181)
of Gentlemen from the Stands. WOLVERINE was handily defeated by BERYL in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute mismatched bout. Definitely an ungentlemanly effort on Wolverine's
part, but then again, winning fights IS his job. And he may have his own contract to
worry about.
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (50-52-0,193) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought JIMI (105-
27) (0-0-0,240) of Gentlemen from the Stands. CONNOR MACLEOD was overpowered by JIMI
in a 1 minute uneven struggle. What can Dri'ith have been thinking to allow such a
mis-match? Between properly enrolled gladiators, yes, but with a standby? There are
standbys of more suitable rank.
WARPATH (66-2926) (78-135-4,183) of X-FORCE fought GHRYSHAN (105-25) (0-0-0,181)
of Gentlemen from the Stands. WARPATH overpowered GHRYSHAN in a popular 2 minute
gruesome mismatched conflict. Nothing like grue to make the fans go wild, though it
would appear, see below, that Ghryshan was not pleased.
IRIADOR (50-2481) (58-38-2,194) of DRUID'S GROVE fought GHRYSHAN (105-25) (0-0-
0,181) of Gentlemen from the Stands. IRIADOR was demolished by GHRYSHAN in a 1
minute mismatched match. An annoyed standby can be a lot tougher than one might
imagine.
GOKU (46-3655) (65-59-2,204) of DRAGONBALL Z fought RHYNIAN ALANDA (105-9) (0-0-
0,200) of Gentlemen from the Stands. GOKU demolished RHYNIAN ALANDA in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute mismatched competition. Defeated by a pickle! I know, Goku is
not, in fact, a pickle, but he reminds me of one irresistibly. It must be his warts.
SANDS (11-4123) (59-103-3,187) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought DEATH FOG (45-4017)
(36-16-0,188) of SUPERIOR FORCES. SANDS handily defeated DEATH FOG in an exciting 1
minute one-sided bout. Hmm. I knew sand was good for ice, but I didn't realize it
could prevail against fog as well. Good to know, given the season.
HUMMEL (14-1404) (69-129-2,183) of MIKES fought TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD (11-4304)
(66-84-0,185) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. HUMMEL lost to TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD in a popular 2
minute brutal fight. A couple of fossils, neither of which does anything amusing
here, so who cares? Well, the fans, obviously, and the bookies.
SMITH (14-1282) (71-129-4,184) of MIKES fought BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (60-104-
1,201) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. SMITH viciously subdued BLACKRAZOR in a popular 6 minute
gruesome duel. Have you seen the portrait of Smith on the cough drop packages? If
so, you understand how he was able to defeat a razor.
MEMPHIS (82-29598) (24-12-0,234) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS 26 fought NIXIE SEASPRITE
(11-4992) (50-52-0,205) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. MEMPHIS handily defeated NIXIE SEASPRITE
in an action packed 1 minute uneven fight. This was, if I recall correctly, for
which I make no promises, our only action-packed fight. Rather short, but we must
take what we can get.
Ah, the challenge matches:
GRANDPA RAT (22-6549) (23-10-1,65) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged PARNIAN (41-
4138) (20-25-1,93) of WANDERERS. Up 28. GRANDPA RAT devastated PARNIAN in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided Challenge duel. Why, that rat! Actually, well done,
Grandpa. Your age hardly shows at all.
BLIND GIRL (22-6041) (26-8-0,129) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged LUKARIAN LAMORAK
(11-4841) (53-64-1,129) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Straight across. BLIND GIRL luckily
beat LUKARIAN LAMORAK in an exciting 3 minute Challenge fight. Surely it was not
ONLY luck here. What of the quicksilver grace and dexterity with which Blind Girl
wielded that red-and-white cane? (So appropriate for the season, too!)
SONIC TACO (30-4337) (30-26-2,149) of TRIP OUT challenged VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-
4928) (50-62-0,173) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 24. SONIC TACO was vanquished by VAJRA
VALMEJAR in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. Apparently Vajra was hungry. I
can understand that. I get hungry myself, and a taco is generally welcome at such
times.
HOMELESS PRINCE (22-6012) (61-39-1,206) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged POETIC
JUICE (66-2975) (49-36-0,222) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY. Up 16. HOMELESS PRINCE was
handily defeated by POETIC JUICE in a 2 minute Challenge match. Does this mean that
Homeless has no poetry in his soul?
VISION (26-1573) (87-46-3,206) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged CADDY JACKKNIFE
(11-4288) (52-30-1,220) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. Up 14, to Most Challenged Caddy.
VISION devastated CADDY JACKKNIFE in a 6 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Ah, hard
luck after a hard fight (it took six minutes, after all).
And for the title:
LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (35-24-0,250) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought TITANIA (65-5835)
(36-25-0,196) of SUPERIOR FORCES 3J. No challenge, you will note. LUCIAS CLAY
luckily beat TITANIA in a 2 minute Title brawl. Was it really luck, or a
determination not to be stuck with doing the dishes? Congratulations to both
warriors.

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
All -- Just a NICE reminder.... In ADM your home arena number is part of your id
number. If you don't put it on your strategy sheets, you run the risk of your
warrior missing a fight. -- NAIEI
Grandpa Rat -- Ah, it's you! Quite the old friend and familiar companion, aren't
you? Yeahyeah (sigh), you just love me for the skills I teach. Well, that's a lot
better than no love! I'll take it, and I'll thank you for the skills you taught ME,
as well. Thanks. -- Parnian
P.S. Not to mention, thanks for the win. I can really use that, and you're not
hurting for wins yet.
Lukarian Lamorak -- I fight someone like you, and I can fully understand the distaste
other managers feel toward bringing in low-experience warriors. (sigh) And you
won't even talk. Oh, well, four skills is nothing to sneeze at. Er, if I sneeze,
it's because I'm allergic to...ah, something. Don't know what, but I'm SURE I'm
allergic to SOMETHING. -- Flutterlee
Solaris -- Aha! I've beaten you to your knees! I LOVE doing that. -- Mars
P.S. Do I have to actually kill you to get your hoard? Is that why the arenamaster
stopped the fight? He's got an interest in it himself?
Yogonith. (sigh) I tried the "I didn't sign on to fight demons from some strange
dimension" line, but the steward says that actually, that's what I DID sign on for,
so I went to look at the contract, and (sigh) he was right. I did. Darn. -- Lurline
Grace
Shadow Out of Time -- Hmm, it figures that you'd be a lefty, since you're sinister.
Of course, *I* am a lefty also, and not in the least sinister...on the surface. Of
course, beneath the surface, hidden by the ring-shadow, well, there is more to me
than you might think! I have subtleties and nuances that would amaze you. -- Saturn
P.S. Somewhere I do. I'm sure I saw them around just the other day, and I put them
in a safe place so I could find them when I needed them, but I just can't seem to put
my hand on them at this moment....
They all say that.
Ardane -- The "flowers and perfume" from Yogonith were...strange. I've never seen
flowers like that, can't even imagine what they grew on, and the perfume...makes me
think strange things when I smell it. I haven't dared to put any actually ON my skin
yet. -- Lurline Grace
Ardane -- My lawyer says I mustn't talk about the lawsuit until things have advanced
farther, or I might prejudice my case. -- Flutterlee
Happy Winter Solstice, Andorak! -- Manager
And the same to you, I'm sure.

NEED A TURF WAR ALLIANCE?? Master Beru, Wretch, Reaper, and Xoan have come together
to form an Alliance for the TURF WAR in DM47 with no regards for experience in
competitions or even the game. If you want to enjoy the thrills of the competition,
we have space for up to three more managers. Contact Master Beru at
d_spinella@msn.com for more information or send a note to Master Beru at DM 29--Army
of Darkness. If you are interested, we need to move quickly, since the contest
starts in January and there are a few requirements to meet to participate. May your
blades find the chinks in your enemy's armor. -- Master Beru
6 December 2006
ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)
As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.
The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
Arena.
The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of
November 2007.
The player with the second most votes overall will fill slot 4 and that term expires
end of September 2007.
The player with the third most votes overall will fill slot 3 and that term expires
end of November 2007.
The player with the fourth most votes overall will fill slot 2 and that term expires
end of May 2007.
During the month that the chairperson's term expires the Player Committee will select
one of the remaining 4 players to be the next chairperson. During the month that any
member's term expires the arena will vote for a different player to join the Players'
Committee.
If you want to be a candidate for the player committee:
1. Post a message in the Duel2 Forum at
http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums
2. E-Mail Deke at DekeYoung@Comcast.NET
3. Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab [ARENA 81]
There are 4 steps to joining this arena
1) Send in a new team rollup to RSI with the following pledge taped/stapled to the
rollup sheet, or transfer a ZERO FIGHT EQUIVALENT TEAM to Arena 81 and send RSI the
following form.
No-Tournament Arena (81)
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this team to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this team.
[Sign your name here ..............................................................]
2) [Optional] post a message on the Duel 2 Forums in the Creating a No-Tournament
Arena thread
http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2296&sid=
94ebf69603ccaf5c7dbf1b19da799732
3) [Optional] send an e-mail to DekeYoung@Comcast.NET with your team name
4) [Optional] Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab in Arena 81 with your team
name and intent to join Arena 81 and abide by the Arena rules.
RSI will be processing overviews for this arena as soon as you send them into
RSI.
The first turn will run in January 2007. This will be a normal speed arena.
While I am encouraging everyone to use TEAM MAINTENANCE it is not mandatory.
The intent is that players that run turns will run a full team. One warrior teams
are discouraged and will a topic for the Player Committee to resolve.
I also encourage players to join the Duel2 Yahoo Group for faster updates and
feedback. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/duel/
