REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Well! Things are definitely looking up here in Andorak. It's like a whole new
arena, and I bid the recent arrivals a most hearty welcome. The weather today is
bright and cold, not the kind of day for lingering on the front step, so let's leap
right into the meat of the spy report. Ham, I think, the kind with cloves stuck in
it. Maybe a little too fancy for gladiators, but it's what we've got.
Scarlet Knights were avoided the most, and the most avoiding team was Taco Gods.
Tacos would be good. Beef tacos, hot salsa, really sharp cheese, and light on the
lettuce, although a few bits of tomato are okay, so long as you don't overdo it.
Most challenged was Vajra Valmejar. It was Blind Girl that got through to her,
but details on that later.
We had THIRTY fights! How many months has it been since we had thirty fights,
and only two standbys were involved? This is great, and I salute everyone involved.
Seventeen challeng matches--some days this year, we were lucky to have seventeen
FIGHTS. This is truly a rebirth, let's hope it sticks. One of those challenges was
tv. As Debby Tonte would say, the rest were radio.
CLEMMIE (26-4630) (23-24-1,84) of GOLDEN CANYON fought YOGONITH (105-5) (0-0-
0,90) of the Monster Gang. CLEMMIE overpowered YOGONITH in a 1 minute uneven duel.
It would appear that someone, perhaps one of the MUGs, really wants fried squid. The
concept is revolting, but we all know that MUGs are strange.
OOZING ORIFICES (71-3475) (10-3-0,73) of POSITIVELY PUTRID fought LORIS KEY (26-
4706) (19-12-1,66) of GOLDEN CANYON. OOZING ORIFICES vanquished LORIS KEY in a 1
minute one-sided bout. I won't tell you what Loris said when she saw what she mas
matched with; she'll probably tell you herself next time. Assuming it's printable.
HERO, HERO (68-446) (11-37-0,44) of DIAMONDS & RUST fought GOLDERIE (26-4657)
(21-15-1,63) of GOLDEN CANYON. HERO, HERO handily defeated GOLDERIE in a 1 minute
mismatched bout. What is it about these Golden Canyon cooks? I find that everything
to do with them reminds me of food! Really big sandwiches, in this case. And I
don't even like really big sandwiches. Odd, distinctly odd.
VANYA (63-2247) (20-14-2,88) of THE EXILED ONES fought BABY (43-2863) (24-32-
2,57) of DARK SIDE. VANYA vanquished BABY in a 1 minute one-sided fray. If this
Vanya can be so hard on a mere Baby, she may be unwomanly! Un-maternal. But then,
why should a gladiator be maternal? Of all the things a gladiator is not likely to
be, a mother is high on that list. Something in the water here on the Isle, or so
they say. Maybe a spell. After all, we have severe crowding, and Someone, naming no
names, may not want a lot of kids underfoot.
NAFISAH (22-6612) (22-8-0,101) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought TARIN SHARPEYES (105-3)
(0-0-0,100) of the Monster Gang. NAFISAH lost to TARIN SHARPEYES in a 2 minute bout.
You've heard of people who "looked daggers" at someone? Tarin Sharpeyes can really
do that. Avoid him.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (31-74-0,108) of RUBY DRAGONS fought DYCROS (63-2208) (31-13-
0,148) of THE EXILED ONES. SOLARIS slimly won victory over DYCROS in a popular 6
minute brutal fight. Okay, so Dycros initially outranked Solaris, but looking at
those experience levels, I don't think Dycros did so badly, forcing the R.D. to six
minutes of brutal effort. We're looking at tough here.
HUMMEL (14-1404) (85-138-4,201) of MIKES fought WOLVERINE (66-3871) (59-110-
4,189) of X-FORCE. HUMMEL vanquished WOLVERINE in a 1 minute one-sided match.
Neither of them really noticed, so we won't, either.
GROMACK (63-1304) (56-64-1,199) of THE EXILED ONES fought WHERE'S MY TOURNEY?
(82-2893) (23-3-0,205) of THAT TOTALLY SUCKS! GROMACK was luckily beaten by WHERE'S
MY TOURNEY? in a popular 6 minute gory match. Well, Gromack, I hope you take his
tourney away from him and use it for a fire-starter.
STORM LXV (60-4972) (35-17-0,209) of DEATH STUDS VII fought VAN HELSING (11-
6338) (46-44-1,152) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. STORM LXV won victory over VAN HELSING in
a crowd pleasing 1 minute fray. This is, perhaps, the form that led two of Storm's
teammates to tourney victor status. Of course, we might have been happier if Storm
had borrowed the style sooner and achieved a little tourney victor status himself,
this really adds cachet to an arena. Oh, well.
IRIADOR (50-2481) (73-48-2,250) of DRUID'S GROVE fought AXLY HIMSELF (11-2363)
(96-73-1,217) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS. IRIADOR was subdued by AXLY HIMSELF in an action
packed 3 minute bout. Axly (accept no substitutes) Himself is rising fast and will
be contending for the title any day now. Go, man!
SOLAR SISTER (71-5609) (46-15-1,233) of THE FURIOUS FIVE fought BARON BLOOD (25-
1396) (43-29-4,195) of FACES OF DEATH. SOLAR SISTER viciously subdued BARON BLOOD in
a popular 6 minute gruesome bout. Does this mean the Baron couldn't "face" her? I
note that this (at least) the third six-minute fight today. Great! Put your elbow
in it, make your opponent sweat! Longer fights are IN.
POETIC JUICE (66-2975) (65-43-0,249) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY fought TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (78-97-0,205) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. POETIC JUICE overcame
TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD in a 2 minute competition. Not only did P.J. win, she recited a
limerick in honor of the occasion. We can't publish it here, there were certain
words and implications... you understand. This is a family newsletter. So they tell
me.
SMITH (14-1282) (83-142-4,237) of MIKES fought DEATH FOG (45-4017) (52-25-0,207)
of SUPERIOR FORCES. SMITH was overpowered by DEATH FOG in a popular 1 minute one-
sided bout. They tell me old f-- er, old fogeys are susceptible to fog attacks.
Seems like it's true.
And already, the challenge matches!
TORNADO CXCVI (60-5111) (14-22-0,52) of DEATH STUDS VII challenged GO-FER (26-
4444) (16-24-2,72) of GOLDEN CANYON. Up 20. TORNADO CXCVI overpowered GO-FER in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge bout. Go-Fer went "fer" after that storm hit. A tough
Tornado.
HOEN VANDERBILT (20-143) (18-31-2,43) of STEEL CRUSADE challenged SARINA (26-
4220) (19-22-1,69) of GOLDEN CANYON. Up 26. HOEN VANDERBILT devastated SARINA in a
3 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. I can barely wait to see what delectable dish
is inspired by this encounter. Yes, yes, I know Sarina says she's not much of a
cook, but surely she can't live in that guildhouse and remain a non-cook?
CAP'N CRUNCH (26-4724) (15-8-1,76) of STEEL CRUSADE challenged XINGARA (63-2352)
(26-21-0,98) of THE EXILED ONES. Up 22. CAP'N CRUNCH lost to XINGARA in an exciting
2 minute Challenge fray. That's the trouble with gladiators newly come to the Isle,
they get excited. Tense. Dangerous.
SVEN BLUETOOTH (26-4729) (22-35-0,100) of STEEL CRUSADE challenged KHORNE
SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (51-49-1,130) of RUBY DRAGONS. Up 30. SVEN BLUETOOTH was
overpowered by KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN in a 1 minute Challenge duel. Ah. Nothing like an
evenly matched fight. Well, okay, it was a challenge, which is different. Let us
hope that the skills offered were good ones.
SEXTANT (63-2415) (15-9-1,143) of SAILS OF CHARON challenged CONNOR MACLEOD (11-
5532) (57-70-0,168) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. Up 25. SEXTANT devastated CONNOR MACLEOD
in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge bout. That Sextant, he always knows where he's
going. You have to admire that in a man.
LEADFOOT (40-3516) (26-18-0,180) of TACO GODS challenged LUKARIAN LAMORAK (11-
4841) (61-81-1,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 16. LEADFOOT handily defeated LUKARIAN
LAMORAK in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge contest. Tripped him! Ha, I saw what
happened, that leaden foot shot out, and whammo! Lamorak on the sands.
HORATIO (63-1386) (42-38-1,174) of THE EXILED ONES challenged WARDUKE (11-5930)
(50-59-3,175) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. Up 1. HORATIO was subdued by WARDUKE in a
crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge match. A good try, Horatio. Perhaps if you tried
it on a bridge, your namesake would give you an edge?
XODAR (63-2179) (34-14-1,180) of THE EXILED ONES challenged NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-
4992) (63-64-1,184) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 4. XODAR luckily beat NIXIE SEASPRITE in
a popular 5 minute gory Challenge melee. Hmm. I tend to doubt the description of a
match as "luckily" won, but after five minutes, with both gladiators staggering
around in exhaustion, I suppose luck MIGHT have been an issue.
HORYS (63-1434) (48-61-0,182) of THE EXILED ONES challenged BLACKRAZOR (11-4091)
(62-127-1,185) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 3. HORYS slimly won victory over BLACKRAZOR
in a popular 7 minute gory Challenge duel. Seven minutes, not bad! Ah... was that
victory as slim as a razor blade? Couldn't resist that.
VISION (26-1573) (109-49-4,198) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged STELLA BLUE (53-
6167) (43-25-1,214) of PUERCO'S PINATA. Up 16. VISION won victory over STELLA BLUE
in an action packed 5 minute gory Challenge duel. Dast I draw attention to the
disparity of fights here? Oops, I already have. But all MAY not be as it looks,
since tourney fights don't show. Very awkward, that.
TETRIANO (63-175) (48-55-1,196) of THE EXILED ONES challenged HANGMAN (23-1076)
(42-25-1,202) of FACES OF DEATH. Up 6. TETRIANO was outwaited by HANGMAN in an
action packed 10 minute Challenge fight. Ten minutes, very good! Clearly, we have a
couple of gladiators with stamina here.
ROC (63-173) (48-63-2,186) of THE EXILED ONES challenged FELON (48-1035) (28-27-
0,194) of DEN OF THIEVES. Up 8. ROC was vanquished by FELON in an exciting 1 minute
bloody mismatched Challenge fight. Ack, thieves everywhere!
GRANDPA RAT (22-6549) (39-18-3,195) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged SANDS (11-
4123) (62-125-3,189) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Down 6. Not the difference in fights,
however. It cuts both ways. GRANDPA RAT bested SANDS in a 2 minute Challenge brawl.
And to this, with my well-known, or possibly not so well-known, antipathy for
fossils, I say, Well Done, Grandpa.
BLIND GIRL (22-6041) (44-14-0,206) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged VAJRA VALMEJAR
(11-4928) (60-77-0,206) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Straight across. This is the Most
Challenged match, though we don't know how many challenges were involved, only that
it was "more than Duelmaster got." BLIND GIRL unbelievably bested VAJRA VALMEJAR in
a popular 13 minute Challenge fight. THIRTEEN minutes, VERY good. Vajra had ample
time to know what was hitting her.
MASSEUSE (41-3092) (36-20-3,260) of SWEET SILK challenged GOKU (46-3655) (81-68-
2,242) of DRAGONBALL Z. Down 18. MASSEUSE was defeated by GOKU in a crowd pleasing
2 minute Challenge duel. Too bad, really, but there are days like this.

LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (45-34-0,206) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS TV challenged BRAK (57-3163)
(29-22-2,203) of CLAN STEELHAMMER. Down 3. LUCIAS CLAY slimly won victory over BRAK
in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge fight.
And for the title: MAXIMUS (22-5966) (64-42-3,232) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS
challenged WARPATH (66-2926) (95-143-4,255) of X-FORCE. Up 23. MAXIMUS was
viciously subdued by WARPATH in a 2 minute Challenge Title battle. A bold try, Max,
but today was not your day. Maybe next time.
