REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Another day, another snowstorm! And you was your tourney, managers and
gladiators of Andorak? Not that I expect anyone to tell me. I'll have to sneak a
look at the actual tourney records, if they ever get organized to the point where
they are records and not just a stack of disorderly notes. Such is life. According
to the weather bureau, an arctic cold front has "slammed" into us here, and I can
well believe it. The temperature is, as promised, plummeting. In fact, I've seldom
seen a lead weight (or plummet) fall so rapidly.
But enough of that, let us advance to the issue of the day, which is the fights.
The King's Sentinel got the most challenges. This is right and proper, and we
are glad to see it.
Superior Forces was most avoided, and Kellumbo's Kids were avoiding them the
most.
We had twenty-five matches, of which six involved standbys. Still, not a bad
number. We're definitely back in the running against the other regionals, and as for
Home Guard, ha! There were eight challenges, one of them a TV challenge, for which
somebody is to be congratulated. I'll take care of that when I get down to the fight
in question. The longest fight was a mere seven minutes, but I suppose it's just too
cold to stand around out there for an hour or so, especially in armor. Quite the
effective conductor of cold, armor is. So they tell me, anyway, I wouldn't know from
personal experience.
GOLDERIE (26-4657) (22-18-1,72) of GOLDEN CANYON fought SHINORR (105-1) (0-0-
0,60) of Really Rude Standbys. GOLDERIE subdued SHINORR in a 2 minute melee. And I
salute her for this, as I am SURE that Shinorr was one of the ruder standbys. Not
that they weren't ALL rude.
LORIS KEY (26-4706) (19-16-1,47) of GOLDEN CANYON fought YOGONITH (105-5) (0-0-
0,90) of Really Rude Standbys. LORIS KEY was vanquished by YOGONITH in a 1 minute
one-sided fight. Ah, someone else who will refuse to cook tentacles, I suppose.
Calamari, that's the word, right? Someone should give this Walking Calamari a
calabash upside the head.
GO-FER (26-4444) (17-27-2,84) of GOLDEN CANYON fought YOGONITH (105-5) (0-0-
0,90) of Really Rude Standbys. GO-FER was beaten by YOGONITH in a 1 minute fight.
Ah, so Yogonith is really wound up today! And a sight to see, all those tentacles
wound up. Enough to give any reasonably boned person nightmares. I hope to be
elsewhere when they finall unwind.
TEEVELLA (82-24954) (8-2-0,26) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought SARINA (26-4220) (20-
25-1,65) of GOLDEN CANYON. TEEVELLA demolished SARINA in an action packed 1 minute
one-sided fight. Good gods, Kellumbo has kids everywhere! How does he keep them all
in shoes?
SOLARIS (46-3759) (33-76-0,110) of RUBY DRAGONS fought TYLARRA (105-23) (0-0-
0,150) of Really Rude Standbys. SOLARIS was overcome by TYLARRA in a popular 1
minute contest. I suppose it's natural enough that anyone with a solar name would be
in trouble on a day like this. I do believe it's getting darker as we approach noon.
And the wind is... moaning. Rather unpleasant and even a tad suggestive.
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (59-72-0,142) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought CLEMMIE (26-
4630) (25-26-1,96) of GOLDEN CANYON. CONNOR MACLEOD vanquished CLEMMIE in an action
packed 1 minute one-sided match. You see what happens when you refuse to cook a
man's favorite food, Clemmie? Ah... it was you who refused to cook the haggis,
wasn't it? Not that I blame you about the haggis, but it's the principle of the
thing.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (46-48-1,174) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought DYCROS (63-
2208) (32-14-0,143) of THE EXILED ONES. VAN HELSING bested DYCROS in a popular 1
minute bout. Those crooners. Nasty customers if I ever met one, crooners. You
can't trust them; they'll steal your girlfriend in a minute. Charge him with
alienation of affection, Dycros.
SMITH (14-1282) (84-145-4,193) of MIKES fought KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (53-
51-1,151) of RUBY DRAGONS. SMITH defeated KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN in a crowd pleasing 2
minute conflict. And then he (Smith) laid us all in the aisles with his joke about
popcorn. I won't repeat it here, but you can imagine it, I'm sure.
XODAR (63-2179) (35-15-1,190) of THE EXILED ONES fought WARDUKE (11-5930) (51-
62-3,171) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. XODAR beat WARDUKE in an exciting 4 minute bout.
Really, these Exiled Ones are a great addition to our arena, smashing fossils right
and left. The gladiators' cafeteria stand tells me they've had a great run on crow.
Or maybe they're crowing, I'm not sure.
HORATIO (63-1386) (43-39-1,190) of THE EXILED ONES fought HUMMEL (14-1404) (86-
141-4,191) of MIKES. HORATIO was defeated by HUMMEL in an exciting 1 minute bout.
Oh, well, good try, Horatio. I'm sure you did your best, but that bridge was a goner
anyway.
ROC (63-173) (49-64-2,188) of THE EXILED ONES fought LUKARIAN LAMORAK (11-4841)
(61-85-1,178) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. ROC luckily beat LUKARIAN LAMORAK in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute bloody brawl. You think I'm being too hard on the Scarlet Knights?
Perhaps I am, but I'm trying to get their attention. They don't even have to write
personals, though I would prefer that. But there are gladiators on these teams who
have been maxed for months and are still attempting to train skills. It's
frustrating. No way am I going to gladiate or manage, but I hate to see a project
begun and then abandoned. Still, I'll rein it in for a while. Several minutes, at
least.
IRIADOR (50-2481) (75-50-2,190) of DRUID'S GROVE fought BLIND GIRL (22-6041)
(45-17-0,191) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. IRIADOR vanquished BLIND GIRL in an action packed
1 minute gruesome mismatched bout. Ah, too bad, she didn't see him coming. There
are days like that.
BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (63-130-1,182) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought TETRIANO (63-175)
(49-57-1,204) of THE EXILED ONES. BLACKRAZOR was savagely defeated by TETRIANO in a
crowd pleasing 7 minute conflict. Our longest fight. Do not attempt to shave with
the black razor in the next few days, as it will take a while to restore the edge.
Those savage defeats lead to many nicks and a lot of blunting.
GOKU (46-3655) (85-68-2,314) of DRAGONBALL Z fought RHYNIAN ALANDA (105-9) (0-0-
0,200) of Really Rude Standbys. GOKU viciously subdued RHYNIAN ALANDA in an exciting
3 minute bloody battle. Now, even more than managed but neglected gladiators, the
standbys turn my crank. You may have noticed? And I, it pleases me to note, turn
theirs. Over and over again. I like to see standbys lose, and I don't care who
defeats them.
AXLY HIMSELF (11-2363) (100-73-1,286) of GERFEL'S FRIENDS fought BARON BLOOD
(25-1396) (43-31-4,200) of FACES OF DEATH. AXLY HIMSELF overpowered BARON BLOOD in a
crowd pleasing 2 minute one-sided match. This will surprise no one, as it was Axly
HIMSELF, not a substitute. A very dangerous man, Axly, and one who would not
hesitate to face death.
WOLVERINE (66-3871) (62-111-4,225) of X-FORCE fought HANGMAN (23-1076) (44-25-
1,211) of FACES OF DEATH. WOLVERINE was overcome by HANGMAN in a 1 minute bout.
Hangman is a face of death? I thought they always wore hoods. Although... Hood of
Death. Doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
WARPATH (66-2926) (98-144-4,249) of X-FORCE fought MEYK (105-24) (0-0-0,250) of
Really Rude Standbys. WARPATH defeated MEYK in an exciting 1 minute fight. What was
exciting about this?
The challenge matches, where we see who is paying attention.
XINGARA (63-2352) (27-22-0,103) of THE EXILED ONES challenged NAFISAH (22-6612)
(23-11-0,125) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. Up 22. XINGARA was viciously subdued by NAFISAH
in an action packed 6 minute Challenge fight. A tough call for Xingara, but, since
it took six minutes for Nafisah to triumph, probably a good call. You can learn a
lot in six intense minutes.
FELON (48-1035) (30-27-0,206) of DEN OF THIEVES challenged STELLA BLUE (53-6167)
(45-27-1,214) of PUERCO'S PINATA. Up 8. FELON was viciously subdued by STELLA BLUE
in a 6 minute Challenge melee. Good try, Felon, but the Pinatas also know how to HIT
as well as to be hit. There should be a past tense with more charater here. Maybe:
I hit today, he het yesterday, I had hitten him before? I rather like that.
HORYS (63-1434) (49-62-0,182) of THE EXILED ONES challenged NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-
4992) (64-67-1,182) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Straight across. HORYS was devastated by
NIXIE SEASPRITE in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge match. And the seasprite is
devastating, if you let her get close. She doesn't sing loudly, but she's intense.
Also, this is probably a sign of storms to come, so beware, all who would sail.
GRANDPA RAT (22-6549) (42-19-3,197) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged SANDS (11-
4123) (65-126-3,207) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 10. GRANDPA RAT demolished SANDS in a 2
minute mismatched Challenge competition. If the golem-scribes who produce the
original fight notes weren't totally without a sense of wordplay, they would have
said, "Demolished Sands on the sands." But they work very cheaply, so I suppose we
have to put up with them.
VISION (26-1573) (111-51-4,202) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (79-100-0,203) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 1. VISION unbelievably
bested TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD in a popular 3 minute Challenge fight. Nonsense! I
believe this implicitly. Besides, I saw it happen! I was THERE for the fight. It's
the reverse that I would have found unbelievable. Look at their records!
BRAK (57-3163) (30-23-2,224) of CLAN STEELHAMMER challenged POETIC JUICE (66-
2975) (68-44-0,222) of ANDORIAN UNIVERSITY. Down 2. BRAK defeated POETIC JUICE in a
crowd pleasing 2 minute Challenge duel. Brak may have smashed the Poet, but now he's
got juice all over his hammer, and you can't BELIEVE how fast that juice will etch
the steel.
Our TV challenge. LUCIAS CLAY (22-6359) (48-35-0,195) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS TV
challenged DEATH FOG (45-4017) (55-26-0,198) of SUPERIOR FORCES. Up 3. LUCIAS CLAY
was devastated by DEATH FOG in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Despite this
loss--and it's hard to fight a fog, as I well know, though that's another tale--we
salute Lucias for his tourney victory.
For the title: GROMACK (63-1304) (57-65-1,212) of THE EXILED ONES challenged
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (62-79-0,231) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 19. GROMACK was
demolished by VAJRA VALMEJAR in a 1 minute Challenge Title melee. A good try,

The honey and mint are obvious, but I know there's more to it than that. After all,
