Fandil paced in the cramped back room of the Flower Shoppe. The information
he'd gotten from the young Fratsfan mage Elosjon should be followed out. It could be
an important clue. It felt urgent. But Lenpro wasn't back yet.
Lady Fern looked up from the geranium she was repotting. "Sit DOWN, brother!
All this stomping around doesn't accomplish anything except to disturb the plants."
"There's something I need to check on--quickly, mind you--outside Fratsfa, but I
can't leave until Lenpro returns."
"Why not?"
Fandil blinked at her. "Ah--we started this together, you know, and I don't
feel right about going off without--"
"You're both grown up," Fern said, "at least as much as men ever are. If Lenpro
hasn't returned, it's because he feels what he's doing is important, too. When he
does get back, I'll tell him where you've gone and why. Where is the difficulty
here, Fandil?"
"But--"
"And take that youngster Elosjon with you before he sinks through the floor in
embarrassment. The girls are having too much fun teasing him."
Elsewhere:
Lenpro didn't mention the disappearance of the gate they'd come through, but
Sizzling Sunflower turned to look also. "It isn't like we need a way out," she said.
"This is a great place, really good soil for the roots, and plenty of sunlight!"
Lenpro looked at her, suddenly worried. "Is this what you want for your life,
to become a sunflower completely and stand in the light with your feet in the dirt?
Bees to pollinate you and birds to harvest your seeds?"
She turned her face, which was rounder and more like the flower she was named
for with every passing moment, toward him, and her eyes opened wide. "Bees?"
"I seem to recall that's how sunflowers do it."
"BEES?" She blinked at him, startled and dismayed. "No! Surely I wouldn't
become a PLANT."
"Look at yourself," Lenpro said. "Listen to what you've been saying."
"The lady wants to be a plant, you shouldn't butt in," someone growled.
Gladiator and manager turned. Something that was half man and half feline faced
them, ears laid back and whiskers bristling. "And this was your choice?" Lenpro
asked, indicating the hybrid form. "To be neither one thing or the other, unwelcome
in either group?" To ask such questions here and now was probably dangerous, the
creature looked to be balanced on knife-edge of temper, but he wasn't feeling
diplomatic. A good fight might clear the-- No, he couldn't push things that far,
what was he thinking? Was this place getting to him, too? He had responsibilities,
and they did not include getting himself killed here in some pocket dimension.
"Sorry, not my business. But the young lady is my business."
The man-cat looked at them for a long minute, while others of this place
gathered behind him. Other man-cats, but no two alike, something that might have
been a sort of werewolf, and many stranger forms. Some were clearly not far from
their human beginnings, but others--he assumed they had started as human, but now it
was hard to believe that. "You need to see the king," the man-cat decided. "We will
take you there."
So, a king. Not the anarchy he had thought at first. Was this good or bad? A
king meant authority he could appeal to in order to get the kidnapped women returned.
But if the king said no, it meant authority on the other side, no recovery of the
women, and maybe no escape for himself and Sunflower. Well, you played the hand you
were dealt. He watched the denizens of this place move to surround them and herd
them through the chaotic jumble of buildings and ruins. They weren't going to be
given a choice to decline.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
So, here it is, and here we are, standing in the rain and wondering what's going on.
Fights, that's what. This is one of the fightingest places in the world.
Perusing the notes left by Zontani Sharp Eyes, who passed through in his search
for an eye-sharpener, I find a hint that perhaps Loris Key gained the largest point
increase today after defeating Connor Macleod. Or maybe not, but Zontani thought it
worthy of mention.
Also worthy of mention, as Zontani figures these things, is that half the "old
women" in Andorak feel they could fight better than the current crop of gladiators.
What Zontani did not mention, but investigation proves it is true, is that these "old
women" are in fact experienced gladiatresses who have been forced into inactivity by
their managers. Their supposition that they can fight better than many active today
may well be true, but we'll never know.
Kellumbo's Kids again posted a selection of avoids, this time focussing on That
Totally Sucks! Which seems like something to be avoided, unless, of course, you're a
sump pump. It's a big season for sump pumps. Lukarian Lamorak got the most
challenges. What will he do with them? Perhaps he's making a collection.
So, we had twenty fights, three of them involving standbys. As these things go,
not bad. Maybe not great, but it could be a lot worse. Ten challenges were issued,
all of them by Kellumbo's Kids. One was a tv challenge, the rest were just ordinary.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (35-104-0,53) of RUBY DRAGONS fought MERRIWEATHER (68-8693)
(12-3-0,84) of SUPERIOR FORCES 2G. SOLARIS was viciously subdued by MERRIWEATHER in
a tiring 17 minute gruesome match. Tiring indeed! What kind of weather, I wonder,
counts as merry? Today, for instance, it's raining off and on, mostly on, and I
can't help but feel that a little sunshine would be more merry.
MGRWONTHE1STTOGS! (60-8618) (19-8-1,93) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1601 fought OHRLAM
(105-2) (0-0-0,60) of Mean Exciting Monsters. MGRWONTHE1STTOGS! devastated OHRLAM in
a 2 minute gory one-sided contest. And speaking of arenas in trouble, I have this
horrible vision of back-to-back TOGS to keep Aradi from shrinking to a vanishing
point. Proof, or at least a strong indication, that a contest does not resurrect an
arena for longer than the said contest runs. But we knew that.
TYRA (81-416) (31-19-1,111) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought GO-FER (26-4444) (31-43-
2,92) of GOLDEN CANYON. TYRA defeated GO-FER in a 2 minute conflict. Excellent
work, Tyra. He tried one of his "stupid come-on lines" with you, eh?
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (73-88-0,165) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought LORIS KEY
(26-4706) (29-36-2,137) of GOLDEN CANYON. CONNOR MACLEOD was demolished by LORIS KEY
in an exciting 1 minute one-sided bout. As noted above, a profitable match for
Loris. Maybe she can have her desired pie.
WARDUKE (11-5930) (63-80-3,168) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought CLEMMIE (26-4630)
(32-49-1,147) of GOLDEN CANYON. WARDUKE devastated CLEMMIE in an exciting 1 minute
one-sided brawl. Somebody should explain to the Duke about "make lunch, not war,"
the motto of the Golden Canyon chefs.
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (61-73-1,153) of RUBY DRAGONS fought BERYL (105-26)
(0-0-0,181) of Mean Exciting Monsters. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN lost to BERYL in an
exciting 1 minute bloody fray. Beryl was feeling, not only oats, but wheat and rye
as well, today. Probably corn, too.
BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (71-152-2,210) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought MAXIMUM EFFORT
(82-11013) (18-13-0,173) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1W. BLACKRAZOR narrowly defeated MAXIMUM
EFFORT in a popular 5 minute bloody duel. No doubt shaving him close in the process.
WOLVERINE (66-3871) (76-127-7,190) of X-FORCE fought MICHAEL COOPER (4-5943)
(30-16-1,174) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC2. WOLVERINE slimly lost to MICHAEL COOPER in a
crowd pleasing 3 minute bloody bout. And I'd figure that if he's noticing at all,
Wolverine's face is red for this loss. As well it should be.
VISION (26-1573) (130-53-4,399) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS fought BERYL (105-26) (0-0-
0,181) of Mean Exciting Monsters. VISION devastated BERYL in a 2 minute one-sided
battle. Ah, Beryl getting a little over-confident there, eh? Good enough, you have
to keep these standbys in their places.
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (77-94-0,248) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought SMITH (14-1282)
(102-157-4,206) of MIKES. VAJRA VALMEJAR was demolished by SMITH in a crowd pleasing
1 minute mismatched match. Smith went at her hammer and tongs, as the saying goes.

(37-33-1,94) of GOLDEN CANYON. Up 28. DESIREE was overpowered by GOLDERIE in a
popular 1 minute one-sided Challenge melee. A bold challenge, but what can you do?
If you want to learn, study with the best, and there aren't many cooks here in
Andorak who are better than Golderie.
SALEM (82-42046) (21-11-0,110) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS06-23 challenged SARINA (26-
4220) (33-42-1,131) of GOLDEN CANYON. Up 21. SALEM won victory over SARINA in a
popular 1 minute Challenge fight. A bold sort of a try that paid off.
DARNESHA (82-42015) (26-7-1,204) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS06-17 challenged HUMMEL (14-
1404) (101-156-7,247) of MIKES. Up 43. DARNESHA was vanquished by HUMMEL in a
popular 1 minute uneven Challenge duel. Yes, well, I never did see the benefit to
putting cumin and stuff into good liquor.
JACKSON (22-6649) (34-10-0,190) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged NIXIE SEASPRITE
(11-4992) (74-87-1,207) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 17. JACKSON was defeated by NIXIE
SEASPRITE in an action packed 1 minute Challenge melee. It's probably the rain.
Gives any kind of watersprite an edge.
GRANDPA RAT (22-6549) (58-33-3,189) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged SANDS (11-
4123) (73-148-3,192) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 3. GRANDPA RAT was devastated by SANDS
in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. Now, I wouldn't have looked for this
outcome. Good thing I'm not a bookie. But that Rat is one tough dude, rodent or no.
NAFISAH (22-6612) (42-22-2,190) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged VAN HELSING (11-
6338) (56-68-1,185) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. Down 5. NAFISAH devastated VAN HELSING
in a popular 1 minute uneven Challenge brawl. Good work, Nafisah. I never could
stand crooners.

SHIELDGUARD in a 2 minute Challenge fight. There's probably some sly and profound
comment lurking here, but darned if I can figure out what it is. Probably the rain,
it makes my synapses short out.

Kellumbo -- If you want all your graduates under one roof, have them so. I don't see
what the problem is. You don't have to select Andorak when they graduate, just let
them fall into Talahya automatically. -- Jorja
Ardane -- On the whole, I would prefer to retain the reginal advanced arenas. And if
we retain the arenas, I figure keep the spy reporters, too. As to what you put in
them, I abstain from voting today, it's cloudy and I've got a cold coming on. Not a
good time to be making suggestions that go beyond "add more salsa." -- Jorja
Manager -- I can understand you not wanting to run in some of the other arenas on the
Isle. From personal experience, I can tell you that some people do not make good
company in an arena. But they pay their dues and follow the rules, so better for
them to have some other place to do it. Myself, I would rather run my advanced
gladiators in Lirin Kiv, but I don't see that happening ever again. Okay, I could
conceive situations where 107 might be reopened, but they're way out in left field
and not I'm not holding my breath.
As to the effort I expend on Andorak, not a problem, my middle name is Sisyphus.
I get exasperated, sometimes even snappish, but I don't quit. You're stuck with me.

Tyra -- Let me tell you about this interesting sauce I'm experimenting with. Meat
juices, the "au jus" fancy Fratsfan cookery, you know, mushrooms, red wine (because
it's red meat), some onion. It's the seasonings that make or break it, and I'm still
