Andorak:
----------
Minute 11021: Manager sipped his mai-tai atop his lounge chair in one of the
managers; suites in the arena. It was another perfect turn in Andorak. The sun was
shining, the competition sparse, and another glorious scum-fest was taking place.
"See the way that warrior has his wrist turned the wrong way?" Manager talked
aloud to no one in particular, "That's costing him extra energy and he's going to
tire in around minute 22,000. Tsk."
Suddenly the door barged open. In walked Armalias Skyhawk, ready for battle and
donning the emblem of the Scarlet Knights. "Come," he said, his voice taking an
unusually serious tone, "We must go."

Free Blades:
------------
The Dark One and Aragorn watched the fights from one of the overhanging walkways in
the arena. Dozens of black birds circled overhead, carrying pieces of parchment in
their beaks.
"It looks like those birds are delivering messages," said Aragorn.
"Ravens. Some say they are messengers of death," noted the Dark One.
Two of the black birds broke from formation and headed towards the two managers.
They dropped their parchments at the feet of the two managers.
"Papyrus," mused the Dark One, "also a symbol of death."
"Really?" asked Aragorn somewhat hesitant to open his parchment, "I wonder
what's going on."
"No. Just kidding," the Dark One teased as he opened his note. "It says we're
supposed to meet at the managers' convention hall near the center of the Isle of the
Eye."

"Curious," mused Aragorn.

Darkholm:
---------
"Hey are there any more of TMM's muffins?" asked a famished Desiree as she jotted
down notes for the spy report from the manager's lounge.
"No time for muffins, sorry!" replied TUM has he hurriedly packed his bag.
"What's going on? They're not re-running the fights, are they?" asked the spy
reporter.
"It looks like all ADM managers are being summoned to the Isle of the Eye," said
TUM. "This must be something big."

Home Guard:
------------
"Whoa, all of the managers of ADM were invited and they asked us Home Guard folks to
attend?" asked the Mun.
"I hear the last time this happened, it was because they were looking for
volunteers to go into the gate and help in the invasion of Gateway. Most of the Home
Guard warriors were killed," noted One Armed Bandit.
"Well, if there is danger, then it's up to the managers and warriors of the
Guard to answer," pointed out the Mun.
"Yeah, they might need cannon fodder in the front lines again...."

Managers' Convention Center, the Isle of the Eye (The next day):
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The managers of the various Advanced Duelmasters arenas quickly descended upon the
Isle's convention center, which hadn't been used for a managerial gathering in many
years. Conversation quickly turned to the reason upon which they had been rapidly
summoned.
"Do you think it's another Rirorni invasion?" asked Tripwire.
"Doubtful," said Le Pentarque, "it's been quiet on that front for years."
"Maybe the Gateway monsters are back!" said Slugbait.
"The magical seals we put in place don't appear to be broken," said the Dark
One. "Although it could be a totally different dimension invading us this time."
"As long as the tournament isn't cancelled, I can live with it," said Guardian.
"Wait. Don't you guys notice something weird about this place?" pointed out
Jekyll. "This room has been decorated. Festively."
The managers of the isle began to look around. The room did seem to be brightly
decorated, although not extravagantly so. Colorful draperies had been hung on the
walls and streamers and balloons were all over the room as well.
"Oh no," groaned Crip, "don't tell me that Soultaker has conned us all into
attending another one of his surprise birthday parties for himself again."
"Gah," moaned Mannequin, "that's two years in a row he's got us now!"
All of the managers sighed and started to head out of the convention center,
when suddenly a commission scribe appeared on stage.
"Stop!" said the scribe, "this isn't another Soultaker surprise party!"
"It's not?" asked Papa Bear. "Then what's with all the decorations?"
"This actually is a party, but not for the reason you think," said the scribe.
With a wave of his arm, a banner suddenly dropped down from behind the stage to the
gasp of many of the managers in attendance. It read: "CELEBRATING THE RETURN OF THE
ADM REGIONAL TOURNAMENT!"
"Wow, it's been so long since the last one," said Crip.
"Indeed," said the scribe. "The Lady of the Isle of the Eye has noted that in
this time of peace, all of you managers have grown soft. You sit around talking shop
in the regional ADM arenas while prepping for the next tournament. So if it's a
tournament you want, it's a tournament you shall have--but one you will have to fight
you way in. And if you are able to fight your way through your comrades and earn
your spot on the team, you will have to duel it out with all of the other regionals'
best too. We will be sending a rules pamphlet to each of your guild houses."
"Can I mention that I'm the defending champion of the last ADM Regional
tournament?" said Mannequin.
"Don't even start," replied Manager. "It doesn't count if it took place before
the first TOGS competition. Besides, you can't win. Andorak is going to win."
"Everyone knows the best and most deep region is Darkholm," said The Muffin Man.
"We have legions of managers who we can call on at any moment that can win this
thing."
"Not me," said Guardian, "I play for Free Blades."
"Don't forget the Slow arena managers," said Fandil of the Consortium Elders.
"The only reason Crysalis has never won before was because we weren't allowed to
compete. This time we are unified and we will put together a team."
"If you were any good, you'd run in a fast arena," quipped Manager
"If any of you were any good, you'd run in Darkholm," retorted the Muffin Man.
The room erupted vociferously in argument as the managers of ADM began to argue
in favor of their home regions.
Suddenly, One Armed Bandit streaked naked across the room. "Home Guard
Rulez!!!" he yelled as a couple of security guards quickly teleported in and started
chasing him.
From the top of her tower, Sheila Greywand watched the managers' argue amongst
themselves and smirked.

Regional Tournament FAQ:
==========================
The next ADM Regional Tournament will be held the Week of September 20th, 2009.

Q: What is the ADM Regional Tournament?
A: The ADM Regional Tournament is a competition where the best and brightest
warriors from the ADM regionals compete to for bragging rights and to see which one
is the best!

Q: How does it work?
A: During the week of September 19th, each Regional Team will be temporarily moved
to Lirin Kiv where they will battle it out in a single elimination tournament with
the last warrior standing winning for his region. (Learns, Skills, and FE gained
during the contest will NOT count)

Q: How are teams determined?
A: There are 11 automatic berths given out to each team. The Duelmaster and each of
the 10 Stylemasters at the end of the following turns will be awarded automatic
entry:
   Andorak: Turn 513 (due 9/5)
Free Blades: Turn 514 (due 8/26)
   Darkholm: Turn 513 (due 8/28)
Home Guard: Turn 514 (due 9/1)
   Crysalis: Turn 212 (due 9/7)

To qualify for a Stylemaster position, you must have been active in the arena in 3 of
the prior 4 turns including the last one. (Thus, you'll want to activate any
inactive warriors who you want to try and qualify by Mid-July sometime, but
immediately for Crysalis.)

In addition, each region will be allowed to select 2 wildcard entrants. Wildcard
entrants are generally selected based on regional votes, but the regional team
captain may decide at his discretion. There will be a turn break in most of the
regionals after the slots have been decided but before the regional tourney begins in
order to vote, if necessary.

Each manager may only play for 1 region and qualify no more than 2 warriors on a
regional team. It's quite possible that based on activity, that certain regions may
not be able to field a full team.

Also, because they are hosting the competition, Lirin Kiv has been given a select
amount of wildcard berths. Managers and warriors who are still loyal to Lirin Kiv
may email/diplo the Lirin Kiv regional coordinator to inquire how to get onto the
team. (Lirith Kai citizenship/immigration required)

Q: What's a regional coordinator?
A: The Regional Coordinator is the unofficial "team captain" so to speak. They are
the ones who are in charge of putting together teams based on the rules, and trying
to make sure everyone is included and disputes are handled. (Say, someone qualifies
more than 2 warriors, the regional coordinator will get with that manager and find
out which ones are in or out and notify replacements, etc.)

The regional coordinators are: Manager (Andorak), The Muffin Man (Darkholm), The
Dark One (Free Blades), Crip (Crysalis), Jorja (Lirith Kai), One Armed Bandit (Home
Guard). If you need to contact them, you can write a personal ad in the ADM arena,
or send a diplo to them at:
Manager: Superior Forces in DM 105
The Dark One: Angels of Pain in DM 103
The Muffin Man: Wasteland in DM 104
One Armed Bandit: Sea Dogs in DM 101
Crip: Royal Flush in DM 106
Jorja: Sand Dancers in DM 65

Q: What does happen if someone qualifies more than 2 warriors?
A: That manager will be able to decide which two to send and the next highest
qualifying warrior will be able to take the place of the warrior that doesn't get
sent if it's an automatic spot.

Q: What if my warriors are not an ADM regional? (Or in the wrong one?)
A: If your warriors are in 100 (or in the wrong region), for a limited time only you
can put in a request to customer service to move to the proper regional. Mention
that your warrior wants to try and compete in the regional tourney. (Your warrior
must have been qualified for that region as of the last split)

Q: Is there a prize?
A: Bragging rights!

If there are any other questions, send a diplo to Manager or ask them in the personal
ad section of the arena. Thanks!

Fratsfa:

Lady Fern knew that her brothers Fandil and Lenpro were competent men, and that
they had each followed up what they considered an important point in the current
problem. But she could not help feeling that they had, each of them, overlooked the
key to the problem, or at least the point which should have been dealt with FIRST:
the King.
Whether the true king had died some time ago or was alive but under magical
control or any of several other possibilities, the important thing, as she saw it,
was to insure that command of the Andorian League did not fall into the wrong hands.
Yes, the causes of the problem, which Fandil thought he had a line on, needed to be
dealt with. And yes, the secondary results of the problem such as intolerance of the
Aruaki, which Lenpro had gone out to tackle, did need to be dealt with, too.
But the previous kings of the League had not made much effort to draw it
together into a coherent whole, and if the king failed, it would--almost must--fall
apart into its constituent parts. Fratsfa, Convincia, Ardivent, and the Aruaki
Clanholds. Raltumas... she shrugged. That was probably lost. Which, also, an
active king might have prevented.
So she had done what seemed reasonable to her, and sent one of her Girls, the
Outcast Orchid, to Andor to find out what was going on. It seemed so obvious. No
magical scrying, no careful collating of reports from spies and chance travelers,
just... go and look. She'd been tempted to make up a party drawn from several teams
here, because though her Girls were Good Girls, they were easily distracted. But in
the end she had not. Time enough to involve more people when she had some
information to work with. Orchid had strict instructions not to become involved with
people along the way, just to go, see, and return to report what she had seen. It
would have to be enough.

Andor:

Outcast Orchid leaned against a pillar along the Processional Way--whatever the
actual name of the avenue was, she didn't know or care--and waited for the King to
drive past in his carriage. It had been a boring trip. No fraternization with
anybody! She understood why her manager had give that order, but it had been hard to
follow. All the opportunities she'd passed by! She let her eyes wander across the
crowd waiting for the king to appear. There was a fine-looking man in the prime of
life who looked like he might know a thing or two. And over there a young man, full
of energy, who might be a gladiator--he looked like he could hardly wait for the
king's carriage to come into view. It was good to see someone who really cared; and
he had several more probable gladiators with him. They must have come from one of
the Convincian arenas to see the king. And that man over there, my, wasn't HE a cute
one--
A stirring in the crowd at the end of the block. Not a cheer, but.... No, she
couldn't say what it was, exactly. She wasn't good at finding words for stuff like
that. Not exactly excitement, but greater attention. Focus. Probably the king's
carriage. Or at least the head of the procession.
Yes, here they came. Guards. Fine looking men, really fine. Very serious,
practically stone-faced, but they were on duty, after all. Then ordinary men in
fancy clothing. Lesser members of the government, she guessed. Some of them looked
like nobles, and some reminded her a LOT of Commission officials. A bureaucrat
doesn't change from office to office. More guards, looking more tense.
"I was against this," a man beside her muttered. "I told them from the
beginning that it would be better to keep it simple."
She turned to look at him. Oh, my, really cute! Dark and gloomy, looked like a
poet. She could have FUN with a man like that, but... she had her orders.
"You think the parade is a mistake?"
"That, too. The more they bring their 'king' out in public, the more chance for
people to see that something's wrong. But they have insisted on displaying... him.
No, it's this that's going to happen next. I advised against it. I did! But they
WILL have their drama, and I, the gods forgive me, helped them set it up." He shook
his head, looking more gloomy and romantical than ever. "You should move away from
me. I'm dangerous company."
Orchid was going to ask him what he was talking about, but the carriage came
into view around the corner. Okay, she could ask questions later. Right now, her
most imperative command was to SEE. To see the king, and report what she'd seen.
Accurately, which meant she had to pay attention here. The carriage was moving
slowly, so she had plenty of time to observe it.
The man on the rear seat, in the purple robes and the golden crown, must be the
king. Who else could it be? But she hadn't expected the crown, somehow. She'd seen
Emperor Alonj of Fratsfa, and he didn't wear a crown. She studied the king, if that
was him, closely. Lady Fern would want details. He didn't look... huh. Not much of
anything. Not interested in the city going past him, not bored by the parade, not
angry at something, not... anything. Not particularly healthy, not actually sick.
He seemed so much a blank that it was disconcerting.
"What's WRONG with him?" She didn't realize she'd spoken out loud until she
heard the words hanging in the air. Too late to call them back.
"Aside from the fact that you're looking at a golem with no more mind than a
puppet? Not a thing. As empty golems go, it's a fairly good one."
"A... golem?" She turned to look at the man beside her. "Then what happened to
the KING?"
He shrugged. "Nobody who's talking knows."
     "But--"
He took her arm gently and turned her back toward the parade. "Watch this."
His voice was grim. "Watch closely, not just the 'king', and see if you can spot the
flaws. Someone needs to know, besides me."
Orchid focused on the carriage again, then began to look at the people closest
around it. The neatly arrayed ranks of guards had gotten out of step and out of line
when they turned the corner back there. Surely guards knew how to handle corners?
But they were being slow to reorganize their ranks. The group she'd identified as
almost certainly gladiators--half a dozen of them--surged forward. To protect-- No!
They were ATTACKING the king! She stood for a few seconds in stunned disbelief, then
shook herself together and took a step forward. She had to protect--
The grip on her arm tightened, holding her back. "No, lady, don't throw your
life away for nothing. That is not the king, it was never the king, and this
'assassination' was arranged by-- Better, probably, if I don't tell you. They sniff
out guilty knowledge like pig sniffing truffles. Take what you have seen and get out
of town as quickly as you can without attracting suspicion. Tell people--it's
important that people know what really happened here--"
"Come with me," she said. "You're in danger, too, aren't you?"
"Yes, but I put myself in the path of--"
A scream cut off his words. She looked back. The words of so many spy reports
ran through her head: Blood on a purple robe may stain. That robe was badly
stained. But it was the gladiator-assassins who were screaming as the guards closed
around them and cut them down. Cut them into pieces. The pavement was awash with
blood.
The grip on her elbow dragged her back into the concealment of the milling
crowd, then into a side street. "Come away, lady, while you still can."

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

This is not one of our more impressive turns. We had fifteen fights involving
five standbys, so, twenty-five gladiators active enough to take the sands today. No
challenges, no avoids. While I am sure there are many managers out there who
consider themselves Andorian, it would be encouraging to see some of them fighting
their gladiators here in Andorak. A visible statement, you might say. Still, the
fights we have are the ones to be dealt with, and other advanced arenas have done
worse. Even we have, most likely, though I do not want to depress myself but
searching for the precise data.

SOLARIS (46-3759) (36-109-0,70) of RUBY DRAGONS fought SHOWSTOPPER (14-4427)
(17-15-2,73) of NO-HALF STEPPING. SOLARIS was savagely defeated by SHOWSTOPPER in an
action packed 5 minute struggle. This is in part by way of welcoming No-Half
Stepping, a welcome new listing on the boards here.
     GO-FER (26-4444) (32-48-2,109) of GOLDEN CANYON fought AYLIA (105-4) (0-0-0,130)
of the Loyal Standbys. GO-FER was viciously subdued by AYLIA in a popular 3 minute
gruesome conflict. Nobody minds, but I do wonder why it Aylia three minutes to put
down this annoying Go-Fer.
     CLEMMIE (26-4630) (33-54-1,134) of GOLDEN CANYON fought 100% (14-4429) (22-14-
2,140) of NO-HALF STEPPING. CLEMMIE was demolished by 100% in a 2 minute gory
mismatched match. At least the half-stepper, nor not-half-stepper, gave it the whole
effort. Nothing skimped.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (57-73-1,157) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought GOLDERIE (26-
4657) (38-38-1,127) of GOLDEN CANYON. VAN HELSING was devastated by GOLDERIE in a 1
minute mismatched conflict. Golderie assured me afterward that this was so easy, she
could have done it with one hand tied behind her back and the other holding a kitchen
fork. I presume one of those long-handled, two-pronged deals that look so
threatening when brandished by the chef.
WARDUKE (11-5930) (67-82-3,153) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought MERRIWEATHER (68-
8693) (18-3-0,146) of SUPERIOR FORCES 2G. WARDUKE was luckily beaten by MERRIWEATHER
in an exciting 6 minute brutal fight. Luck is where you find it, and a good job,
too.

     WOLVERINE (66-3871) (79-130-7,179) of X-FORCE fought SARINA (26-4220) (34-47-
1,130) of GOLDEN CANYON. WOLVERINE overpowered SARINA in a 2 minute uneven match.
No surprises here.
NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-4992) (78-89-1,199) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought MASKED
GUILDMASTER (105-6) (0-0-0,201) of the Loyal Standbys. NIXIE SEASPRITE was
vanquished by MASKED GUILDMASTER in a 1 minute one-sided duel. Good. This is what
happens to gladiators when their managers look the other way.
MICHAEL COOPER (4-5943) (34-18-1,189) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC2 fought KHORNE
SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (64-76-1,168) of RUBY DRAGONS. MICHAEL COOPER lost to KHORNE
SHADOWSPAWN in a popular 2 minute duel. A tad embarrassing, perhaps?
LUKARIAN LAMORAK (11-4841) (73-109-1,197) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought GHRYSHAN
(105-25) (0-0-0,181) of the Loyal Standbys. LUKARIAN LAMORAK overpowered GHRYSHAN in
an action packed 2 minute uneven melee. Pardon me while I yawn. A gladiator beating
a standby is not news.
SANDS (11-4123) (74-153-3,183) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought LORIS KEY (26-4706)
(31-40-2,173) of GOLDEN CANYON. SANDS overpowered LORIS KEY in a 1 minute mismatched
brawl. No pie for Sands.

HUMMEL (14-1404) (105-158-7,191) of MIKES fought CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (78-
89-0,161) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. HUMMEL devastated CONNOR MACLEOD in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided duel. A tough Mike, Hummel.
     GOKU (46-3655) (106-83-2,215) of DRAGONBALL Z fought RHYNIAN ALANDA (105-9) (0-
0-0,200) of the Loyal Standbys. GOKU devastated RHYNIAN ALANDA in an exciting 2
minute bloody one-sided fight. Again, nothing to get excited about if you ask me.
TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (89-126-0,226) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought JIMI
(105-27) (0-0-0,240) of the Loyal Standbys. TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD was overpowered by
JIMI in a 1 minute mismatched duel. You'd think that after a couple hundred regular-
arena fights, Talisman could handle a standby. But then again, we don't have just
ORDINARY standbys here.
BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (75-154-2,228) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought MAXIMUM EFFORT
(82-11013) (21-16-0,198) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1W. BLACKRAZOR viciously subdued MAXIMUM
EFFORT in an action packed 4 minute brutal battle. Maybe so, but I bet Max can take
him if he sets up for it.

For the title:
VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-4928) (82-95-0,250) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought WORKS 4 EVIL
EMPIRE (82-3317) (27-9-0,203) of SUPERIOR FATHER. VAJRA VALMEJAR was butchered by
WORKS 4 EVIL EMPIRE in a 1 minute Title fight. Our congratulations to Works, and
don't listen when people scream about "unnecessary roughness." As some spy reporter
says, "This is the discipline of steel." Or something like that.

                               PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE

Andorak Managers -- For the Regional Tourney, if you're not going to represent
Andorak, just post a personal ad and let me know so I know not to put your warriors
on the team. For now, I'm assuming myself, Armalias, and Mike will be gunning for
Andorak spots, but Clemmie's author (Golden Canyon, et al) will want to represent
Lirith Kai. -- Manager

On the whole, we'd be inclined to agree with Ardane that this isn't really an arena
any more. Well, okay, it depends on your definition of "arena." Physically, it is
still here. But as a community of moderately like-minded Andorian gladiators? Nope,
don't think so. -- the gladiators of Golden Canyon, who find life as cooks more
interesting and fulfilling
P.S. Yeah, we know, not a popular view, but AT THIS TIME, it's the truth. Maybe the
Andorian Spirit can be reborn. Don't know about that, midwifing a Regional Spirit is
not in our job descriptions. Maybe the Regional Rumble will do it, or at least start
it. But we, the gladiators of Golden Canyon, can only do so much. We show up, we
fight whoever gets thrown at us, and about half the time we write personal personals.
We, or some of our colleagues, will be here doing this for as long as Andorak keeps
going. But we cannot, unaided, lift Andorak out of the pit into which it has fallen.
Find half a dozen committed Andorian managers to fight five gladiators each here and
write the occasional personal, and maybe things will change. Improve. Yes, we said
"write the occasional personal." It isn't a community if we don't communicate, just
an incidental collection of people who aren't much interested in each other or in the
shared background. Sorry, Manager, but from where we sit, that's the truth. We
would be delighted to be proven wrong.
