WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
ADM Regional Tourney Qualifiers:
=================================
Gah, my spotlight was wiped last turn.
Here are the Andorak Automatic Qualifiers for the ADM Regional Tourney (a few things
pending):
DM: Vision (Kellumbo)
TP: Nay Palm (Marmaduke)
Aimed Blow: Death Fog (Manager)
Parry-Lunge: Hummel (Mike)
Lunging: Dallas (Manager)
Wall of Steel: Nixie Seasprite (Armalias Skyhawk)
Slashing: Wolverine (Armalias Skyhawk)
Striking: TBD
Bashing: Doug Bermin (Marmaduke)
Parry-Strike: None (Phlash Phludd doesn't have the necessary minimums to qualify)
Parry-Riposte: None (Sarina's Manager is Lirith Kai)
Striking Stylemaster is pending, depending on what Armalias wants to send a ST or his
WS/SL. Either way, it should open up a slot open for Mike's 2nd warrior.
We have two wildcards, I'd prefer to use it for inclusion. If you run in 105, let me
know what you think. Right now I'm thinking we get Kellumbo's #2 warrior in. And if
Phlash Pludd's manager was hoping to compete, he can have the other wildcard. I think

Fratsfa, more or less:
"We have to get out of here now," Lenpro said, urging Sizzling Sunflower toward
the gate of this arena. "Even if we can't find the portal to take us back to the
true Fratsfa--"
"Will they let us go?" the Lady Protector asked. She glanced to the side and
saw that Lenpro had his own sword out. Oddly, she'd never thought of him as being a
warrior--he was so old! But he managed gladiators, trained them, and he'd lived a
long time in a world where violence was not uncommon.
"Can they stop us, except by magic?" the manager asked. "And I have a feeling
their half-demon mage will be busy trying to keep control of things now that you've
beaten his--I think the vampire was his enforcer."
"I don't know for certain that the vampire's dead," Sunflower warned. "They're
tricky to kill."
"Doesn't matter," the manager said, steering her to her right. They hurried
down another street, not running, because if you ran, there was always something or
someone who would automatically give chase. "Even if it isn't dead, or what passes
for dead among vampires, it was hurt and won't be up to giving us trouble before we
can get out of here." He swerved to the left into an alley, and she followed.
"Do you know where we're going?" Sunflower asked. "Not that I care much at the
moment, as long as it's 'away'."
"I've got a good idea which way the Portal lies," Lenpro said. "Fandil is the
magician in the family, but there are other kinds of skills."
"If you can find and open the Portal back to Fratsfa--"
"I can find it," Lenpro said. "I'm nearly certain I can find it. But opening
it might present problems. Unless there's someone on hand who can be coerced. I do
coercion from time to time."
"Good. So do I."
They turned another corner, and Lenpro pointed ahead. An archway of mismatched
stones straddled the way ahead of them, framing grayness. "There's our portal," he
said.
Andor:
Outcast Orchid stared back toward the avenue and the slaughter of the "king" by
out-of-work gladiators. "I don't believe it! Those gladiators were waiting to kill
the king--the golem they thought was the king. How could they do such a thing?"
"You saw how," the man beside her said.
"Yes, but--"
"Gladiators come all kinds, just like ordinary people," he went on. "Some good,
some bad, and a lot of them on the fence. And this hasn't been a good town for a
gladiator since the arena closed. They were probably so glad to have a job that they
didn't look into it closely."
"You're saying someone paid them to--?"
"Of course." He steered her into an alley just before a troop of mounted guards
rushed past. "Very few people, gladiators or not, are genuine anarchists to kill
what they believe is the king just for... kicks." He paused at the other end of the
alley, looked both ways, and hurried her across another street into an overgrown
park.
"But they must have expected the guards, why didn't they have an escape route
ready?"
"They were most likely told the guards wouldn't be a problem. Don't you see?"
He stopped and turned to face her. "They were set up to kill and to die." He shook
her a little. "Believe it, lady! Lord Korneth doesn't care whose death he ordered,
and you will be a target if anyone noticed and recognized you. Even if no one saw
you at the parade--any gladiator found in Andor today will be marked for death. You
have to get out of the city!"
"And so do you," she answered. "You helped me get away, and someone will have
noticed--someone always notices."
"My life is already forfeit. Gods forgive me, I've been a part of this. But
they will not find my death easily achieved, and that may buy you extra time to
escape--"
"If you want to make amends for whatever it is you've done, better to help FIX
things than just throw your life away," Orchid argued. She glanced around, orienting
herself. "Fratsfa's THAT way." She set out, keeping a firm grip on her companion's
arm. "Come ON."
"Lady--"
"Don't waste time and breath arguing," she said. "Just come ON. When we get
out of the city, THEN we can argue."
West of Fratsfa:
Elosjon glanced over his shoulder as they left the deserted buildings of
Mountain Home behind them. He had been thrilled when a well-known, deeply respected
magician like Fandil of Ardivent had invited him to help, but the idea of facing a
demonic 'watchdog' chilled him to the bone. He was not skilled enough to deal with
demons, and he knew it. He just didn't want to have to admit it to a master of his
profession. He took a deep breath, coughed at the bite of sulfur in the air, and
squared his shoulders. He would do his best. Surely an experienced magician like
Fandil would understand that his best was all he could do.
But he hoped they wouldn't meet that demonic watchdog.
His mind was so fixed on what he hoped that he didn't notice where he was going
and ran full into Fandil. The old magician was standing in the middle of the
overgrown road, immobile as a tree, staring up the mountain. Elosjon followed the
direction of his gaze.
Fandil was looking at the castle on the ridge above what had been the town.
Studying it. Okay. Elosjon studied it, too. He had only seen it once before, a
long time ago, when he was a kid--well, that might not seem long to someone like
Fandil, but it was a long time ago to him. He didn't remember it clearly. At least,
he didn't remember it looking quite like this. He frowned, trying to figure out what
was different... or wrong. It was a fairly standard Medieval Frafrejan castle.
Central keep, enclosing wall with a lot of pointy little towers along it.... Wasn't
that wall leaning outward a little too much? It looked like a stone wave about to
break over their heads. In fact, for a structure that was at least half a mile away
horizontally, maybe a little farther vertically, it seemed to be looming very much
over their heads. Enough that it would be no surprise if it blocked out the sun.
That had to be a magical effect, didn't it? Even though he'd never heard of one like
that.
"Our enemy is powerful, and heedless of normal safety," Fandil said. His voice
was quiet. "That heedlessness makes him doubly dangerous. And it is crucial that he
be destroyed, or he will destroy not only us, not only the Andorian League, but a
goodly portion of this whole area." The old mage's voice hardened. "He is dabbling
on the edges of Chaos magic."
Elosjon paled. He had traveled some in Alastari as part of his education in
magic, had seen the Smoking Plain near Delarq Tor that was all that remained of a
fertile and populous countryside that had been hit with a blast of Chaos magic five
hundred years ago during the last Chaos War. And he had heard of the Twisted Lands
farther south, where the Chaos War of three and a half millennia ago had centered.
And now someone would do it here? "No! We can't allow that--anything we can do, I
would give my life if that would stop him--" He started up the road to the castle.
Fandil caught his arm. "You may end up doing that, and I may also, but we will
not succeed by rushing straight ahead. This calls for planning and finesse."

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Again the fights. I viewed the prospect with less than enthusiasm this morning,
until one of the Lady's stewards reminded me, pointedly, that fights is what Andorak
is about. That reminder was, in fact, unnecessary. I didn't say I was going to stay
away, I just wasn't perky when I walked into the office. Why should I be? But
enough of that. We had the fights, and here is the report.
Scarlet Knights II was most avoided, by Da Dog Powndaz.
Merriweather got the most challenges.
We had twenty-five fights, a very respectable number considering what the total
was a few months ago. Two standbys were involved, and nine challenges went through.
SOLARIS (46-3759) (37-114-0,60) of RUBY DRAGONS fought YOGONITH (105-5) (0-0-
0,90) of Various Standbys. SOLARIS was overcome by YOGONITH in a crowd pleasing 2
minute bout. One of our more slippery standbys. It's probably something to do with
the tentacles.
GO-FER (26-4444) (32-54-2,84) of GOLDEN CANYON fought KNEE BREAKER (26-4770)
(17-11-0,68) of ULTRA-VIOLENT. GO-FER overpowered KNEE BREAKER in a popular 1 minute
uneven duel. One could ask, "Why?" Come back from below and defeat this
insufferable Go-Fer, Knee!
BELOW XEROE (41-1513) (21-15-2,82) of THE STORM FRONT fought FLESH FLAYER (26-
4751) (23-11-1,57) of ULTRA-VIOLENT. BELOW XEROE was narrowly defeated by FLESH
FLAYER in an exciting 2 minute bout. Somebody in the office told me that "Below
Xeroe" meant "found under the copy machine." This makes no sense, but then, arena
names often don't.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (60-76-1,125) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought BUTTERHEAD
(105-11) (0-0-0,150) of Various Standbys. VAN HELSING slimly lost to BUTTERHEAD in a
popular 3 minute gruesome match. Two standbys fought, and both won? Now they'll be
insufferable.
DOMINION (22-5043) (19-17-0,127) of ZOMBIE SQUAD III fought BLYZZ ARD (41-1859)
(21-9-4,100) of THE STORM FRONT. DOMINION was overpowered by BLYZZ ARD in a popular
1 minute one-sided match. Is this a serious indication to all adventurers and
dealers in necromantic materials that zombies are paralyzed by cold?
PHLASH PHLUDD (41-1077) (27-23-0,159) of THE STORM FRONT fought SANDS (11-4123)
(76-157-3,167) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. PHLASH PHLUDD was handily defeated by SANDS in a
crowd pleasing 1 minute uneven duel. Who would have thought that putting Sands in a
bag would prepare him so well for this role?
MANDRAKE (68-3259) (38-33-1,191) of SERPENT'S HOLD fought GOLDERIE (26-4657)
(40-42-1,156) of GOLDEN CANYON. MANDRAKE lost to GOLDERIE in a popular 2 minute
match. But if he smiles nicely, Golderie might cook up something special for
Mandrake. Or not--Mandrake was a magician, wasn't he? I've heard that cooks don't
care for magicians.
BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (78-157-2,210) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought SHERRI (82-15114)
(28-23-1,193) of SUPERIOR FORCES 3201. BLACKRAZOR was viciously subdued by SHERRI in
a popular 2 minute gory contest. Proof, if such was needed, that experience won't
trump a manager's active interest.
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (81-92-1,210) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought WORKS 4 EVIL
EMPIRE (82-3317) (30-12-1,198) of SUPERIOR FATHER. CONNOR MACLEOD was overpowered by
WORKS 4 EVIL EMPIRE in a 1 minute mismatched fight. Does this mean Connor must now
work for the Evil Empire also? Or does he just get trampled underfoot and left by
the wayside?
TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD (11-4304) (91-130-0,190) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought MICHAEL
COOPER (4-5943) (37-21-1,188) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC2. TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD was
luckily beaten by MICHAEL COOPER in a 2 minute match. If that's luck, I'll... ah,
maybe I'll be careful what rash promises I make. But that didn't look like luck to
me.
LORIS KEY (26-4706) (32-45-2,181) of GOLDEN CANYON fought WARDUKE (11-5930) (70-
85-3,169) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. LORIS KEY was bested by WARDUKE in a popular 1
minute brawl. Doubtless Loris will have something caustic to say about Warduke next
time; I think she and her teammates are getting a little tired of meeting up with him
and his teammates. But when the arena is a small one, that's what happens.
TEEFA (40-2943) (53-45-0,196) of SUPERIOR FORCES fought WOLVERINE (66-3871) (83-
132-7,207) of X-FORCE. TEEFA handily defeated WOLVERINE in a 1 minute mismatched
bout. Well done, young person.
MASKED INTRUDER (44-1257) (34-22-0,215) of DEVIATION fought GOKU (46-3655) (107-
88-2,191) of DRAGONBALL Z. MASKED INTRUDER was overpowered by GOKU in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute one-sided duel. Does this victory (no surprise) mean that Goku is
some kind of vigilante? Taking out Masked Intruders and all.
DEATH FOG (45-4017) (74-32-0,233) of SUPERIOR FORCES fought LUKARIAN LAMORAK
(11-4841) (75-113-1,191) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. DEATH FOG devastated LUKARIAN LAMORAK
in a crowd pleasing 1 minute mismatched bout. But not, alas, to the point of killing
him. How can this be a Death Fog if it has no kills? Of course, Incapacitating Fog
doesn't have the same ring.
DALLAS (18-6860) (56-42-0,400) of SUPERIOR FORCES 6N fought VAJRA VALMEJAR (11-
4928) (84-99-0,195) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. DALLAS handily defeated VAJRA VALMEJAR in an
exciting 1 minute one-sided contest. Whoa! Where did Dallas get all those points,
eh? It must be the cheerleaders.
HUMMEL (14-1404) (110-159-7,225) of MIKES fought FINALITY (82-4063) (37-20-
1,201) of SUPERIOR FORCES 3P. HUMMEL was savagely defeated by FINALITY in an
exciting 1 minute bloody match. There is a certain logic to this. Not a great
logic, perhaps, but some.
The challenge matches, and I'll just take a moment to say what a pleasure it is to
see someone besides Kellumbo paying attention to challenges and avoids:
WHITE FLAME (52-1807) (20-13-0,128) of PYROMANIA challenged SARINA (26-4220)
(35-52-1,135) of GOLDEN CANYON. Up 7. WHITE FLAME was overcome by SARINA in a 1
minute Challenge bout. When interviewed after the fight, Sarina said, "I just closed
the damper. Why hasn't anyone tried this before me?"
SIR BARKALOT (41-1461) (26-23-3,129) of DA DOG POWNDAZ challenged CLEMMIE (26-
4630) (34-59-1,108) of GOLDEN CANYON. Down 21. SIR BARKALOT vanquished CLEMMIE in
an exciting 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. A win is always good, but she won't
cook for you know, Sir B.
SKOOBEE DUU (41-1345) (35-38-1,169) of DA DOG POWNDAZ challenged MAXIMUM EFFORT
(82-11013) (23-20-0,203) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1W. Up 34. SKOOBEE DUU viciously
subdued MAXIMUM EFFORT in a popular 4 minute Challenge duel. Maxie had better look
into some kind of over-the-top booster for effort, eh?
DEAD OF WINTER (41-970) (36-35-2,175) of THE PLAGUE challenged DOUGH BERMIN (41-
1633) (35-21-3,176) of DA DOG POWNDAZ. Up 1. DEAD OF WINTER handily defeated DOUGH
BERMIN in a 1 minute uneven Challenge fight. Aaaah, the cold weather always wins.
Everyone knows that. Well, except maybe Eskimos and Ice Trolls.
SKITZO FRAY NICK (3-2912) (29-18-0,172) of STATE OF MIND challenged KHORNE
SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (66-80-1,179) of RUBY DRAGONS. Up 7. SKITZO FRAY NICK
devastated KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN in a 1 minute Challenge match. Pop him and pour butter
over his head, Skitzo!
ALBINO DALMATION (41-1672) (35-27-3,208) of DA DOG POWNDAZ challenged JACKSON
(22-6649) (40-16-0,211) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. Up 3. ALBINO DALMATION was devastated
by JACKSON in a 1 minute uneven Challenge brawl. What do you call a white dog with
blood-red spots?
SHADOW OUT OF TIME (41-1622) (32-20-1,197) of THE PLAGUE challenged MERRIWEATHER
(68-8693) (22-5-0,195) of SUPERIOR FORCES 2G. Down 2. SHADOW OUT OF TIME devastated
MERRIWEATHER in a 3 minute one-sided Challenge contest. Not to be wondered at. When
you can master time, what's a little gladiatorial combat to slow you down?
NAY PALM (52-1439) (36-17-0,214) of PYROMANIA challenged THE PINK RANGER (68-
9166) (51-40-1,288) of SUPERIOR FORCES X. Up 74, a bold move. NAY PALM was
demolished by THE PINK RANGER in a 9 minute one-sided Challenge melee. This Pink
Ranger is tough. But then, we knew that already.
For the title:
VISION (26-1573) (135-54-4,249) of KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenged NIXIE SEASPRITE
(11-4992) (82-91-1,211) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Down 38. VISION viciously subdued NIXIE
SEASPRITE in a 2 minute Challenge Title fight. Congratulations are in order for
Vision, our continuing Sentinel.

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Sir Barkalot -- You sure you don't live next door here? Or at least one of your
cousins. Oh, well, nobody's going to sneak up on the neighborhood, anyway. And no,
I won't make you dog biscuits, the very idea! But I might do a roast with a good
bone in it. -- Golderie
White Flame -- Well, drat. I didn't realize the fire was so HOT, and now my lovely
casserole is pretty much a charcoal block. -- Clemmie
Dallas -- I tried to drive in Dallas once. Once was enough. -- Loris Key
Van Helsing -- Do you ever get tired of this life? -- Sarina, feeling a bit frayed
around the edges
Blyzz Ard -- Cute. -- Go-Fer
Sir Barksalot -- Yes, Golderie may be prepared to put up with that, but if you come
barking around MY kitchen door, all you get is a brick. -- Clemmie
Shem -- Well done... looks like I shouldn't have eaten that last Skoobee snack. --
Skoobee Duu
Michael Cooper -- My brother Skoobee said to say hello. -- Albino Dalmation
Wolverine -- Xcellent job there. Your tenure most definitely put me at a
disadvantage. -- Dough Bermin
Goku -- I have to say, I was surprised by that outcome given the FE disparity. Well
fought. -- Masked Intruder
Maximum Effort -- You most definitely attempted to live up to your name. -- Nay Palm
Clemmie -- I heard good things about you, and I had to see it for myself. Thanks for
the fight. -- White Flame
Works 4 Evil Empire -- You most definitely brought more to the table than I thought
you were capable of. Congrats on the W. -- Skitzo Fray Nick

There has been a run lately of personals and columns turning up in the wrong
arenas. When you email in something, check and make sure you have the correct
arena number! It's easy for a finger to slip onto the wrong key. When the
receipt comes back, check again to be sure it went where you intended!
