WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
It was the first intermission of the ADM Regional Tournament, and nothing had
really been decided at all. All of the regions had gone close to .500 after one
round and still had hopes of winning the tournament. A few of the managers who had
been eliminated had returned to their home arenas, but most of the managers still
hung around in the managers' lounge to support their team.
"So you mean to tell me that there's a zombie infestation running around in
Arvat?" asked Marmaduke.
Zalgor Prigg nodded. "It's a pretty serious situation. Most of the Free Blade
team is distracted. I expect the Dark One to give orders to return home after we get
eliminated...."
"I dunno..." replied Marmaduke, "It kind of sounds like an excuse in case you
don't do well. I mean does stuff like this really happen in Alastari anymore?"
"Excuse me?" said Zalgor.
"I mean, maybe ten or twenty years ago, this stuff seemed pretty common.
Rirorni Invasions, Spying and Counter-spying, Intrigue with the Royal Courts, Gateway
Monsters...but ever since the regions realized they could profit from tournaments
while cutting costs and send most of the dueling to Dwes Eg, this kind of stuff
hardly happens...."
"Well, this one is real," said Zalgor, "and you guys better hope this doesn't
spread outside of Arvat..."
"Probably not," Marma Duke conceded, "But we could use some adventure in this
place..."
The horn signalling for the managers to return to their respective areas sounded
and the matches for Round 2 begun.
Bloodbath was once again in the first fight of the day. The Mun, not satisfied
with his big win last round had given Bloodbath a lot of instruction in-between
rounds. Dallas, Manager's Lunger who had been dominating Andorak was his next
opponent. This was one of many second round matches who people felt who could go
either way. They were wrong. Bloodbath crushed Dallas in a surprisingly lopsided
match. After the fight, Manager could be seen seething in the stands, whereas
Bloodbath was quickly emerging as both a crowd and bookie favorite.
Shewish Whaler and Veloxi were up next. Shewish Whaler was One Arm Bandit's
Lunger and one of the top warriors in Home Guard. Veloxi was a surprisingly young
Parry Strike who had knocked off the former Captain of the Guard last round. Showing
cooperation between normal adversaries, Master Darque was spotted giving some tips to
Whaler and OAB. The advice paid off as Shewish Whaler had no problems with Zalgor's
upstart Veloxi.
Free Blades's Lunging Champion Defiance was up next. The Dark One was one of
many team captains who had a good first round and despite the distractions was doing
a good job keeping the Free Blade team together. His opponent was Reaper's wildcard
Aimed Blow, Shadow out of Time. It was clear that the Andorak strategy was to flood
the team with as many Aimed Blows as possible. This time however, it didn't work as
the more experienced Defiance defeated Shadow out of Time, making it an 0-2 start for
the Andorian team so far.
In what looked like a relatively even match up, Master Darque's Parry Lunger
from Home Guard (Tyre) was up against Nomad's Parry Lunger (Baron Stonewall) from
Crysalis. Home Guard had already exceeded some predictions by having one warrior
make it past the second round and Tyre hoped to be the second. In an exciting back
and forth battle, it was the warrior from Crysalis who won the day, making it a nice
start for them in the second round.
One of the Andorak favorites, Death Fog walked in, with ominous wisps of smoke
trailing behind him. His opponent was the Crysalis Slashing Stylemaster Boarish
Yeltsin. Manager watched anxiously, not wanting to be totally eliminated after the
second round. Crip looked more relaxed as a he took a sip of northern ale. In the
end, it was Death Fog who scored another quick win, ensuring Andorak its first
warrior in the next round.
Stormlord led the Andorian cheers as his warrior Phlash Phludd, the Andorian
Parry Strike stylemaster, was up next. The Free Blade team responded with She-
Puppy's Nightcap, its Parry-Lunge stylemaster. Nightcap showed the reason he was the
more experienced warrior as he dominated the plucky Phlash Phludd.
Many fans cheered as Littlest Tyrant, TMM's undefeated Eligibles Champion made
his way onto the sands. The Crysalis Wildcard, Wretch's Parry-Strike, Black Flag.
Yet, it was Black Flag who earned some cheers, as he quickly had Littlest Tyrant on
the ropes. In the end, Littlest Tyrant was able to overcome adversity as he barely
defeated Black Flag. Black Flag, however, was applauded for the near upset as he was
carried out on a stretcher.
Free Blades' Wall of Steel Champ, Gossamer, who was being managed by Aragorn was
up next. Gossamer drew what was basically a bye, but would still have to defeat the
Alastarian Deserter to advance. It was over quickly as Gossamer took care of
business and advanced to the Top 14.
Two warriors with impressive wins in the first round were up next. Cooler,
Jolly's Slashing Champion of Darkholm, was up against Hortator, OAB's Bashing
Champion of Home Guard. Most people figured the fight would likely be quick and one-
sided and they were right. It was Cooler who got the jump and easily put down
Hortator.
He Hate Me, a former ADM Runner-Up who was also the Lunging Stylemaster from
Darkholm was out next. His opponent was Jackson, Kellumbo's up and coming Aimed Blow
from Andorak. In surprisingly lopsided fashion, Jackson upset He Hate Me, leaving
many to wonder if the time was now for a warrior who was supposed to be good in the
future.
Another former tournament success was Harv, the Delarquan wildcard entrant
managed by TUM. Hoping to repeat Jackson's performance was Enlightened Being,
another wildcard managed by Aragorn. Harv showed why he was a former tournament
champion, though, as he easily beat Enlightened Being.
One of Andorak's sweethearts, Sarina was up next. Sarina was the Jorja's Parry-
Riposte and also one of the last females left in the tournament. Mannequin's Parry-
Strike from Home Guard was her opponent. Mannequin was considered an expert in the
Parry-Riposte field, and he showed that he's also capable of beating them as Snotman
beat Sarina and sent another Home Guard warrior into the Top 14.
Natas, The Dark One's Lunger from Free Blades, was up next. His opponent was
Blue Velvet, a Consortium Wall of Steele from Crysalis. Blue Velvet put up a good
defensive effort, but Natas's offensive attack was too much. It seemed as though the
Lungers and Aimed Blows were slowly starting to take control of the regional field.
The Total Parry from Andorak, Vision, was up next. Deep Thought's warrior (and
Home Guard's wildcard) was his opponent. Both Andorak and Home Guard had only two
warriors in the next round and they needed three to keep pace with the other regions.
In the end, Vision was too much for Heart Breaker, also making Detective Kellumbo one
of the few managers to still have two warriors in the field.
At the end of the first two rounds, the scoreboard read:
Scoreboard:
------------------
Darkholm: 7-4 (63.6)
Andorak: 10-9 (52.6)

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Well, what are you looking at, ANDORAK? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Of course, we're all terribly impressed
to see SPAWN win a fight and gain 80 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, CLEMMIE beat INDIA
and INDIA lost 24 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with the old, in
with the new, as THE PINK RANGER takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old
Duelmaster. Heh, heh. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you
think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. , I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this
turn's most avoided team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And it looks
like KELLUMBO'S KIDS avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, DOMINION was this
turn's most challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for ANDORAK's
morgue. More variety. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is
developing these kinds of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Phlllt! Just had to do that before
I leave the fine city of ANDORAK. I feel much better now. Paste this one in your
scrapbooks, you'll need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens
