Blood on a Purple Robe: A Bloodgames Primer
                                by One Armed Bandit

Twice a year, there is a great gathering. These tiny men with their stained
clothing and great intellects do not look like your traditional gladiators, but they
will meet and compete for a chance at Duel-2 immortality. No, no, I'm not talking
about the managers at the Face-to-Face. I'm talking about the murderous dwarves of
the Bloodgames.
It's probably the worst advertised event in Duel-2 history. It happens twice a
year, in January and July, and you don't have to fly across the country to
participate. For some, the Bloodgames are just a distant memory of a t-shirt that
never arrived, newer managers may have never even heard of it. For others, though,
it is a way of life. And it can be yours, too.
The cost: $10 to roll up the team, $49 to run them. At each Face-To-Face
tourney, two Bloodgames arenas are run. One of them (called the FtF Bloodgames) gets
run round-by-round for ten rounds, and warriors are allowed to change their
strategies, avoid, and make Bloodfeud challenges. For the other arena (called the
Mail-In Bloodgames), there are no bloodfeuds or avoids and each warrior must use the
same strategy and train for all ten rounds. You can participate in both even if you
don't attend the FtF, but you'll be at a slight disadvantage in the FtF Bloodgames
(the Mail-In Bloodgames is a perfectly level playing field).
The teams: Each team consists of TEN warriors, one of EACH style. You can
design each warrior however you want, as long as the stats add up to 84 points and no
stat is lower than a 3 or higher than a 21 (referred to as DYOs or design-your-own
warriors). Simply write down the following information on a piece of paper and mail
it to RSI (or email it to csr@reality.com): your name, your account number, the words
"Mail-In Bloodgames" or "FtF Bloodgames", the team name, and all ten warriors (name,
style, gender, ST-CN-SZ-WT-WL-SP-DF). If you submit them early enough you will
probably get a chance to see the overviews before sending in strategies for each of
them (using a normal strategy sheet, remember only one strategy and one train for the
entire event). If you want to play it safe, however, you can submit strategies along
with the team information, just write "NEW" in each of the Warrior ID spots and
either "MI BG" or "FTF BG" in the Game # spot. Some managers who are especially
ambitious will roll up each team more than once, and look over the overviews to
determine which team had the best luck in the roll-up process. Just remember, it
costs $10 each time you roll them up.
The rules: So what's the catch? $59 for 10 design-your-own warriors? Not so
fast, buddy. At the end of ten rounds, the top three warriors of different styles
from each arena will be granted immortality, trained up to the minimum ADM
requirements, and will graduate to ADM. Every other warrior will be gone forever.
Executed, freed, or retired to a quiet life on the farm like your childhood dog
Buster, if that helps you sleep at night. If the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ranked warriors
are a LU, a WS, and an AB, then those three will win the prizes. However, if the
1st, 2nd, and 3rd ranked warriors are a LU, a LU, and a WS, the 2nd place LU is out
of luck, his prize will drop down to the highest ranking member of a style that isn't
LU or WS. So what does it take to be one of the top ranked warriors? Warriors are
ranked based on number of kills, first and foremost, with their record and
recognition points being the tie breakers. Oh, did I mention that the chances of
dying are FIVE TIMES that of a normal arena?
What to expect: You will run into many opponents who are SZ 3, who have 21 WT
and 21 WL, who are using a 10 KD and aiming for the vitals, who are using unusual
weapons that Duel-2 folklore says have a greater chance of delivering that killing
blow, such as the Battle Axe. You may run into such classic archetypes as the 17-3-
3-21-21-8-11 ST or the 17-16-3-3-21-3-21 AB.
So why should you play? There are many reasons. You don't have to feel guilty
about killing your friend's warrior, for starters, because that's the whole
objective. Unique kill text make it all the sweeter, too. You won't see anyone get
"pierced completely through" or "skewered through their vital organs" anywhere else
(at least I hope not). Not only is it exciting to read, but my most rewarding
warrior came from the Bloodgames and yours could, too. Whether you are a tournament
player or an arena player, if your warrior is tough enough to survive the Bloodgames,
he's tough enough for whatever task you set him to. My first Bloodgames graduate was
a warrior named Sushi Slinger of Sea Dogs: 17-3-3-21-21-12-7 SL. He left Old
Valamantis with a 10-0-3 record and immortality. Since then, he has been a
Tournament Victor in the Freshman tourney, a Runner-Up in the ADM tourney, and a
three-time Tournament Victor in the Eligibles tourney. He is now fighting in Primus
against the best of the best and holding his own. Your Bloodgames graduate could
join him in Primus, too.

Dare to fight bravely." - Alarond the Scribe

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

The attention and interest shown by gladiators in this arena stuns me. Despite
which, I will give you a spy report.

We had sixteen fights. Home Guard does better than that. Only three standbys,
though, which is something. One challenge, no avoids. Sands had the greatest point
gain at 24, his opponent Tryptophan the greatest drop at 17.

KETTELMAN (26-4749) (25-33-1,55) of GOLDEN CANYON fought SOLARIS (46-3759) (42-
126-0,64) of RUBY DRAGONS. KETTELMAN savagely defeated SOLARIS in an action packed 2
minute gruesome struggle. A switch on last time, eh?
CLEMMIE (26-4630) (38-72-1,104) of GOLDEN CANYON fought AYLIA (105-4) (0-0-
0,130) of Hungry Fans. CLEMMIE was viciously subdued by AYLIA in a popular 3 minute
gruesome conflict. It will be interesting to discover what Aylia inspires.
VAN HELSING (11-6338) (66-87-2,136) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought LORIS KEY (26-
4706) (36-58-2,144) of GOLDEN CANYON. VAN HELSING demolished LORIS KEY in a 1 minute
one-sided brawl. Garlic, definitely garlic is needed here.
SARINA (26-4220) (43-61-1,174) of GOLDEN CANYON fought WOLVERINE (66-3871) (90-
142-7,179) of X-FORCE. SARINA was devastated by WOLVERINE in an exciting 1 minute
mismatched conflict. This will not make Sarina happy, but that's the way it goes in
the arena.

MICHAEL COOPER (4-5943) (44-31-1,168) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC2 fought GOLDERIE
(26-4657) (46-53-1,151) of GOLDEN CANYON. MICHAEL COOPER overpowered GOLDERIE in a 2
minute one-sided match. It appears that Michael truly is a superior force.
TRYPTOPHAN (71-5634) (25-17-0,201) of SUPERIOR FORCES ZC fought SANDS (11-4123)
(80-170-3,172) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. TRYPTOPHAN was defeated by SANDS in an action
packed 2 minute gory match. The fight that led to the most movement in the ranks.
     AIKEN (71-3933) (17-9-0,189) of SUPERIOR FORCES Y4 fought WARDUKE (11-5930) (75-
97-3,169) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II. AIKEN won victory over WARDUKE in a popular 1
minute duel. Another superior force at work!
KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN (46-3809) (72-91-1,196) of RUBY DRAGONS fought GHRYSHAN (105-
25) (0-0-0,181) of Hungry Fans. KHORNE SHADOWSPAWN was unbelievably bested by
GHRYSHAN in a 2 minute gory duel. What is there not to believe?
     GOKU (46-3655) (117-95-2,193) of DRAGONBALL Z fought TESSHIAN (105-22) (0-0-
0,181) of Hungry Fans. GOKU handily defeated TESSHIAN in a 1 minute uneven melee.
Maybe Goku will be inducted? He's over two hundred regular fights, after all.
Shouldn't there be some kind of adm-sandbagging guideline?

NIXIE SEASPRITE (11-4992) (90-100-1,194) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought
MGRWONTHE1STTOGS! (60-8618) (31-9-1,208) of SUPERIOR FORCES 1601. NIXIE SEASPRITE
was bested by MGRWONTHE1STTOGS! in a popular 1 minute competition. Ah, well, Nixie
shouldn't have tried to greet her opponent by name.
CONNOR MACLEOD (11-5532) (86-104-2,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS II fought WORKS 4
EVIL EMPIRE (82-3317) (38-21-1,192) of SUPERIOR FATHER. CONNOR MACLEOD was narrowly
defeated by WORKS 4 EVIL EMPIRE in a 2 minute struggle. Tell me, does it pay well,
working for an evil empire?
DOMINION (22-5043) (27-26-0,201) of ZOMBIE SQUAD III fought BIKINI LINE (25-
4545) (29-30-0,171) of SUPERIOR FORCES. DOMINION subdued BIKINI LINE in a crowd
pleasing 6 minute gruesome competition. Well, of course the crowd was pleased. It
isn't everybody who can spend six minutes getting rid of a bikini. That's art.
     KALLORE (14-3061) (34-15-1,197) of CHECKMATE fought BLACKRAZOR (11-4091) (85-
167-2,195) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. KALLORE was bested by BLACKRAZOR in a popular 5
minute fight. Considering it took Blackrazor five minutes, I look to see this
reversed in the future. Kallore is getting tougher by the minute. Probably left him
in the oven too long.
HUMMEL (14-1404) (120-166-7,214) of MIKES fought TALISMAN SHIELDGUARD (11-4304)
(98-140-0,186) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. HUMMEL was savagely defeated by TALISMAN
SHIELDGUARD in a 1 minute fight. And the sad thing is, probably neither manager
noticed.

Our challenge fight:
     BINKLY (46-4115) (24-22-0,114) of DEATHTONGUE challenged GLITCH (46-2798) (24-
18-1,129) of SERPENT'S HOLD. Up 15. BINKLY was bested by GLITCH in a crowd pleasing
2 minute Challenge fight. A home-town match! Always interesting, as much for the
behavior of the fans as the action on the sands.

And for the title:
THE PINK RANGER (68-9166) (67-41-1,319) of SUPERIOR FORCES X fought LUKARIAN
LAMORAK (11-4841) (81-124-1,192) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. THE PINK RANGER won victory
over LUKARIAN LAMORAK in a 4 minute Title battle. I can't help but feel that Pinky
should have done this faster, but at least he DID win. Congratulations.

Connor Macleod -- Same old same old, isn't it? -- Sarina

Talimsan Shieldguard -- Right, well, you guard your shield, and I will devote my time
to other matters. Something along the lines of spaghetti is appealing to me tonight.
-- Golderie

Wolverine -- You have no appreciation for fine cooking. -- Loris Key

Glitch -- Your name is difficult to fit to some type of dish--that's our custom, when
we aren't being bored by encounters with the same guys we've been fighting for years.
It poses a problem. Maybe something with figs, though why it brings to mind figs I
couldn't say. Maybe it has something to do with the way fig newtons stuck to my
mouth as a kid? "Glitch" sounds a little sticky. Or there's peanut butter. But
lately I've been finding peanut butter cookies a little... bland, and you don't seem
bland at all. Let me think about this. -- Clemmie

Solaris -- Sun-dried tomatoes? Why not, after all--I'll give them a try in the
goulash I'm making. -- Kettelman

You going to invite me for dinner?
