REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
It was Zontani Sharp Eyes today, and I almost let him take it. I spent HOURS
today listening to "elevator music"--not music and not elevating--and it turned my
brain to cooked oatmeal. I hate it when that happens. There were raisins in it.
With seeds.
But enough of that. We had the usual twenty-some fights, ah, twenty-six. Two
actual challenges, one death, and three standbys. And if anyone offers the arena
elevator music to play between the fights, we will REFUSE.
The challenges:
THE BALROG (22-4867) (19-17-1,46) of SHADOW LANCERS challenged JUSTICE (26-4709)
(19-18-0,61) of WARCKERS. Up 15. THE BALROG was viciously subdued by JUSTICE in a 3
minute Challenge fight. It looks like Justice was most challenged.
VLADIA THE IMPALER (22-4893) (18-14-1,73) of SHADOW LANCERS challenged UNSCATHED
(30-4516) (24-34-0,53) of CRYSTAL PALACE. Down 20. VLADIA THE IMPALER demolished
UNSCATHED in a 2 minute gory one-sided Challenge melee. This got one of Zontani's
famous quips: "Merciless, 20 challenged down UNSCATHED points this week to duel with
she. The weight of the challenge fell hard upon UNSCATHED and predictably it was
overcame by VLADIA THE IMPALER. This is how to arouse the anger of an entire guild!"
HIS brains must have turned to oatmeal, too.
For the title:
ALBINO RAINBOW (11-6238) (71-43-2,263) of WAR-C-KERS fought EVENING STAR (60-
8819) (39-55-0,231) of SUPERIOR FORCES 60. ALBINO RAINBOW slaughtered EVENING STAR in
a 1 minute mismatched Title brawl. That comes down hard on Evening Star, when you
die, you don't even get skills. I've always wondered why you get extra points here in
Andorak for killing your opponent. It seems so un-Andorian.
A couple other fights that Sharp Eyes considered worthy of comment:
REAL GUANO (75-3088) (58-28-2,198) of SECOND CHANCES fought UGH LEE (24-5247)
(29-6-1,180) of GARBAGE PAIL KIDS 4. REAL GUANO devastated UGH LEE in a exciting 2
minute bloody uneven duel. "REAL GUANO caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as she skillfully bested UGH LEE and was awarded 20 points in recognition."
Actually, it wasn't the EYE that Real Guano caught. But she and the Garbage Pail Kid
were well matched that way.
SAVORY (32-4143) (94-114-1,179) of DEAD WE SUCK fought COLYN SHEA (30-5368) (29-
13-2,176) of WRATHMEN. SAVORY handily defeated COLYN SHEA in a 1 minute mismatched
competition. "In one of the week's more notable duels, SAVORY put down COLYN SHEA,
causing him to lose 9 points of recognition in the process." What makes this a
"notable" duel, anyway? I've never figured that out. If you know, give me a clue,
okay?

In the interest of preserving our natural resources and preventing managerial writer's
cramp, the census form has been eliminated, effective immediately. Managers may
register their warriors' races and/or favorite sayings by simply writing them on a
separate piece of paper and submitting them to the Commission. Each warrior may have
up to 15 favorite sayings. Each saying must be categorized Jeer, Gloat, Boredom, Ouch,
Victory and may be up to 70 characters long. For any questions, please contact the
Gladiatorial Commission.
Armsilbar liked being Master of the Stronghold Academy, all except for one part.
He had to talk to Sheila Greywand at least once a week, usually oftener. She was
getting more erratic. More chaotic. That would be the effect of the Grey Wand. It
was a powerful chaotic artifact, and she kept it with her always. She had turned his
predecessor into a frog--or 164 frogs--and then summoned all the members of the
Academy to a frog-leg dinner. That had been, ah, bad. Yes, very bad.
But here he was entering her chambers. With, well, it couldn't be called GOOD
news. And the look she turned on him--she was in an orcish mood today, all scowling
black brows and bared fangs--that made him nervous. But some things had to be done.
He cleared his throat, which seemed to have a frog in it, and said, "It's about the
next tourney prize, Lady. I know it's more than two months away, but this isn't too
soon to start thinking of some new, exciting prize--"
"I have no intention of thinking about 'new, exciting prizes'," she snapped. Or
was that a snarl? "These managers are getting above themselves. They act like I
created the arena system for their amusement! There will be one standard prize for
all the tourneys. Just one."
He had a horrible vision of all the managers walking out in a mass. Perhaps it
wouldn't be that bad, but it wouldn't be good. And if he said the wrong thing, well,
the next frog-leg dinner might be him. "Er, ah, perhaps a specific prize for each
tourney--a spring prize, a summer prize, and so on? The managers expect--"
She exploded. A literal explosion, the force of the blast blew his hair off.
She said several things in an obsolete dialect of orcish. He stepped backward, then
again. The blast had blown the door open behind him. If he could make it out before
something else happened--
"Ribbit! Ribbit!"
