Shania sat in the bow, wrapped in her cloak, staring out to sea, and ignoring everybody. The rest of the group, Ashon Chang, Werre, Rughal, Vurand, and Jammies, went about the business of getting the boat ready to sail. When the tide turned and started outward just before sunset, the boat went with it. Werre, Rughal, and Jammies handled the actual sailing, two on and the third resting in rotation. Werre had sailed before, Rughal had some knowledge of boats, and Jammies was a fast learner. It would turn out to be an exhausting schedule, which they all realized, but Vurand was worse than useless on a boat, Shania didn't have the strength to help, and Ashon Chang's job was to keep a close and constant watch on Herlas. The sun set before they were out of sight of the coast, coloring the sea before them like blood. "A bad omen," Vurand muttered, staring westward past Shania's motionless form. Ashon Chang hesitated, looking away from Herlas to the red sea beyond. One could not deny the reality of omens, but.... "Our journey will be what we make of it, my friend." "And we're nearing the end of it," Jammies added, coming up behind the two. "Praise Mantor for that!" "Geographically, we may be coming to the end," Ashon Chang corrected him, "but in terms of actions to be taken and problems to be solved, I suspect we aren't even half-way." "I didn't want to hear that," Jammies told him. He shrugged. "I know you're right, but can't you let me keep an illusion or two for another few days?" The last burning rim of the sun disappeared under the horizon, and night unrolled from the east. The speed with which darkness fell was unnerving. "The moon'll be up in a couple of hours," Vurand muttered uneasily. "I'm not afraid of the dark." He sounded unsure of that, and yet all the party knew that it was true. The Orc had moved through the darkness of the mountains and forests without hesitation. But there was something about this night.... Ashon Chang glanced back at Herlas, but the Fratsfan merely shifted his position a little and continued to stare into the distance. At the bow, Shania was invisible. "Lady Silverstar should go into the cabin and sleep," he said suddenly. Saying her name focused his vague alarm, and he stared forward, trying to pierce the darkness. "I'll remind her," Vurand agreed. He braced himself on the side of the cabin against the movement of the deck and edged forward. A horse was easier to ride. Hell, if a horse made trouble, started pitching, you could get off and walk. "Shania, you need to.... Shania? Shania! Rughal, Ashon, she's not here! Shania's gone!" "She...she just went into the cabin when it got dark, and we didn't notice," Jammies said quickly. He scrambled down into the low doorway to check. Ashon Chang moved in a different direction; the samurai had his own suspicions, and he'd been against including Herlas in their party once the man had confessed. The Fratsfan mage hadn't moved except to stand up and stare forward. The gladiator saw his face pale as pearl in the darkness. He grabbed Herlas' shoulder. "Where is she?" "I don't know--" "TELL ME, damn you!" He shook the mage hard. "I. Don't. Know," Herlas repeated. "I've been under your eye the whole time-- yours or one of the others. What could I have done, how could I have spirited her away--" "Magic." "Not in the current state of the Arcanum," Herlas snarled. "My powers are not so great that I can draw from Outside sources. And would I do something to Shania and stay here to receive your vengeance? I'm not such a fool!" "Very nearly, though," Rughal said grimly. He grabbed Herlas' other shoulder. "You may not have taken her away, but you can make a guess as to who did, how, why... and where. If you want to see the sun rise again--" "The triumph of brawn over brain?" Herlas sneered. Then he let out his breath in a sigh. "I can make guesses," he admitted, "but they won't do you any good. If she was taken as I think, none of you could get near her." He sighed again. "I do not wish Shania Silverstar ill, but some things are too important for personal considerations--the restoration of the Arcanum is one of them. Shania understood that herself. It is her goal. She's dying, as you know whether you admit it or not. What better use for her life than to--" Rughal's free hand closed around the magician's throat, choking off any further words. "Don't kill him yet, Rughal," Ashon Chang said grimly. "First let him tell us his 'guesses' on what has happened to Lady Shania. Then I'll help you kill him." One hand ran along the sheathed curve of his sword. Rughal relaxed his grip a little. Herlas sucked in air. "Start with who took her," the ranger said. "I don't know names," Herlas gasped. "A coalition of wizards and priests--" "Think of some names," the samurai growled. His dagger gleamed silver in the starlight as he brought it up to prick the Fratsfan's cheek just below his eye. "I don't know names! Just...Murluvir, the one who came to see me in Zensu. He isn't the principal, just an agent, as I was to be--" "Don't lie," Rughal said. His voice was cold and smooth as ice. Or steel. "As you WERE an agent. For whom?" "I don't know! I didn't ask. Some things it's better not to know...." "Guess," Ashon Chang ordered implacably. "I don't know!" Herlas panted, perhaps gathering strength for more denials. But he finally said, "I suspect...Folstrom. Or someone like them. Someone who can draw on power from Outside." "So that's who...for now. Tell us why," Rughal demanded. Before the Fratsfan could answer, he added, "And don't tell us it's another thing you don't know!" "But I don't!" he wailed. "All I can do is guess--" "So guess." Ashon Chang leaned closer. "But guess right." "Maybe...because she's from Outside, too. Or because she's a seer. Because she knows things that other people don't understand how to know. Or because she's linked to the Ghean Arcanum even though she's an Outsider. Some of those reasons, all of them, none of them. I swear I don't know!" "And how was it done?" Ashon Chang asked. "We assume magic of some kind-- nothing else would make sense. But under current circumstances--" "They have no fear, no discretion, no patience!" Herlas' exasperation seemed genuine. "It must have been some kind of small Gate, but to open one NOW...the risks...." "And the last question," Rughal said in a soft voice that sounded no less dangerous for its softness. "Where have they taken her?" There was a long silence. "You don't know," Ashon Chang said. His grip on the man's shoulder tightened; he could feel bones grinding against each other under his fingers. "Guess." "To the Eye of the West. Wherever it is." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Eye of the Storm #59 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Rithakar: As the lancer came nearer, Onuphre drew his sword and awaited the charge with bared steel. A thunder of hooves burst out of the silence of the night. The horse staggered and seemed to have trouble regaining a smooth stride. The lance wobbled and missed the Shew as the man closed with him. Onuphre sidestepped and his sword licked out. Bellerophon kept his attention on the main body of the ghost troop. They had shown no awareness when Onuphre drew his sword, but when Bellerophon and the rest of the gladiators armed themselves, the company faltered in its steady progress. It seemed to ripple in their vision, as though they were looking at it through running water. "They are barely in this world," Tamea Soulkeeper murmured behind the gladiators. "I had heard of such things but never expected to see it." Ultraist glanced over his shoulder at her. "What do you know about it?" "About this particular example, not a thing," she answered calmly. "About the phenomenon... a little." She returned his look from half-closed eyes. "Why should I share my hard-won knowledge with you?" "Why shouldn't you?" Debby Tonte asked from farther back. The well-tanned spy report could be just glimpsed coming up, mostly by the large umbrella she carried. "I mean, we're comrades, right? We're, like, unallajous together." "I wouldn't have put it QUITE like that," Mr. Testosterone muttered, "but then again, she does have a point." He looked at Tamea expectantly. Shrugging as though it didn't matter (though her frown said otherwise), Tamea said, "It's a kind of stasis, half pocket universe, half time-stop. At least, that's what I've heard. There are usually some specific signals that end the spell--a time limit, or some triggering event. Or two events, here, apparently. Whatever set them in motion to begin with, and the Shew drawing steel on them to finalize the, hmm, reconnection." She glanced over at Onuphre. The Shew was having no trouble with his opponent. The man's movements were slow and awkward, though definitely hostile in intent. The horse was in serious trouble, stumbling, overshooting turns, and seeming to sag with exhaustion or age as they watched. "But the others haven't emerged from their, um, pocket universe," E.A. Polecat argued. "So--" "Part of the same problem," the witch said with an airy wave of her hand. "Sloppy workmanship is what *I* would call it. Even in stasis, people and horses don't last forever, you know. I guess whoever set this up expected it to be triggered sooner--a LOT sooner--and didn't put a final time limit on it." She looked at the ghost troop and bared her sharp white teeth. "So these fine fellows have passed their peak. Lile wine too long in the cellar. If they can break out of the stasis completely--which seems to be giving them trouble--they'll be easy meat. One might learn many interesting things from an examination of their souls...." "That would be totally necrophilatilous!" Debby Tonte said in a shocked voice. "I don't think you should." Before anyone could reply to this, a thin cry of anguish jerked their attention back to Onuphre, who had kept his mind focused on his job: killing the lancer who was trying to kill him. The man had been unhorsed, and they saw that he had drawn a sword of his own and made battle on foot. But the Shew was too big, too fast, and too vigorous for him. Onuphre had disarmed the man and was now holding him in an iron grip to prevent him bleeding to death from the stump. Seeing that he had his companions' attention again, the Shew said, "I thought we might want to ask this fellow some questions." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Tides of Magic #7 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + The Isle of the Eye, Talahya: It didn't take them long to bring Carris Fallstar up to date on what they had deduced; the elf had managed to guess a lot of it on his own. When Fizban started adding speculations and guesses, Carris held up a hand to stop him. "Save the guessing till you've got more facts, old man," he suggested. "The important thing now is action--" "Such as?" Scarlatti demanded truculently. "We need to reconnect the Isle to Alastari," Carris said calmly, "or to some other world that can supply us with the food needed to support the population." "And you think we can do this?" Rogan's skepticism was obvious. "It's true that Fizban's a wizard, but--" "But not knowledgeable or powerful enough to accomplish that," the old man agreed. "I learned my art in another place, and even there where the pattern was as familiar to me as the shape of my hand, I might not have been able to..." he shrugged, "to do whatever it would take to forge such links. It's my thought that the Lady Greywand may be the only one with the knowledge we need and the control." Scarlatti blew out his breath in something a little more than a sigh. "Yeah, that's what I've been figuring right along. And I'm assuming that she knows what's happening and is doing whatever she wants to and can do about the situation, and we're still in trouble here. So...." He shrugged. "So we need to come up with something ourselves," Rogan said coolly. He seemed to sense the doubt in his companions and turned his blind face from one to another. "Why not, after all? We are none of us stupid, unimaginative, or lacking in potentially useful skills. Therefore let us use them." "Good points," Moonjumper murmured. "Because of my nature, I can sense the presence of Gates... at least active ones. And I can also sense the linkage with Alastari, when it is operating. What other skills may be part of my design I do not know. I have never had an opportunity to speak with my designer," the golem said, "nor do I know the designer's identity or purpose." Scarlatti nodded. "That's about what I figured. I, uh, have some skills in gathering information...." "A spy?" Rogan asked. "I prefer to think of myself as an observer," the Lapurian answered with dignity. "I also have some knowledge of the political chessboard that is eastern Alastari, though I admit I don't see how that can be useful." "Very well, a trained observer," Rogan said. "That may be quite useful in itself. I am, as you see, Aruaki, and I can shapeshift at need. Also, my senses other than sight are much sharper than is normal." He paused for a moment, then went on more slowly, "I suspect that I may extend the range of my other senses beyond even that of most who are born blind... or perhaps I have some other sense that I cannot give a name to. But I become... aware of things, sometimes." "Interesting," Fizban said. "Perhaps we could set up some experiments to determine the full range of you-- Oh, all right," he shrugged at Scarlatti's frown, "some other time. My skills that might be useful are simple: I am a wizard. Not the greatest, perhaps, but not the least, either. And I have a lot of information picked up in odd, sometimes VERY odd, places." He looked at the last member of the group, Carris, expectantly. The elf shrugged. "I have a lot of skills, you could say I collect them! I know a little of sorcery, and more of surviving in strange corners of the universes. We probably all have abilities that we don't yet realize will be valuable. No way to list them till we know what we're going to DO with them. So...?" "Two angles of attack on the problem occur to me," Fizban said after a moment. "We can find where the magical links USED to be anchored and look for significant facts about the anchors, how they worked and why they aren't now. And we can find Gates that are working now and study THEM to find out the how and why." "And from those two sets of facts," Carris agreed, "we should be able to draw conclusions and form plans of action. Sounds good to me. Let's get started." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===SLOW ARENA NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 231): DOMINO of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard I'm glad to be back here for another stint as DM. Fortunately, I'm sticking around this split so I plan to make my stay a long one. Some interesting contenders here, but probably the best bet to knock me off this perch is Fengar II if he transfers over from Lirith Kai, the only ADM arena that is less populated than ours. Speaking of which, I've only just noticed that this arena's population has been dwindling as well. Is that because of too much of Crip's Crap floating around? If Crip ran less warriors, would that encourage more people to come here, or would that simply lower the number of warriors dueling here? Is there anything that we can do to prop up the numbers again? Anyway, kudos to Avaunt on a brave challenge. Usually I run on an if challenged strategy based on the thinking that no TP in his right (or left) mind would run around challenging ABs. Good try, and I see you got a skill for your trouble. Willie Makit Mistaken Identity REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER Has anybody noticed how HOT it's getting these days? I'm sure the fighters on the sands have spotted that detail! Especially the ones in heavy armor. And the fans in the unshaded portions of the arena. Despite this, we had the respectable number of thirty-seven fights today, with twenty of them--more than half!--being challenge matches. Way to go! Olaf Modeen (who doesn't feel the heat, or so he sometimes says--so long as it's a DRY heat) says that Darque Forces were avoided by Royal Flush. And why not? Somebody's got to do it. Father of All Muns got the most challenges, if I'm reading these notes correctly. Olaf seems to have spilled something on them. Probably a drink. Nobody died today, although some may have thought they were going to expire from heat stroke. And without further ado: the fights. VAMPIRE (25-4546) (15-8-0,53) of BARHOPPERS fought DROSS (31-4305) (15-10-2,57) of SOLIPSISM II. VAMPIRE subdued DROSS in an action packed 2 minute brutal competition. This looks like a pair of newcomers to the Isle and Crysalis, and I hope the brutality of the match doesn't scare them away. We're very nice here, most of the time. NIBENAY (71-3380) (20-15-1,72) of DARQUE FORCES fought MONKEY WRENCH (2-4403) (15-16-1,59) of TOOL BOX. NIBENAY was overpowered by MONKEY WRENCH in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided duel. As in "threw a monkey wrench into"? But you aren't supposed to throw things in the arena! RAVEN (71-3435) (14-13-0,55) of 2ND ARCTIC GUARDS fought DANNIA TYL SIO (52- 3393) (26-17-1,72) of SAND DANCERS. RAVEN was demolished by DANNIA TYL SIO in a 1 minute one-sided duel. It's a fluke, Raven. After all, Dannia is a Sand Dancer, and they usually lose. So try her again, eh? WRITER'S (79-1069) (25-51-1,44) of BLOCKS fought RIRORNI SOLDIER (106-3) (0-0- 0,30) of Gentle Fans. WRITER'S was demolished by RIRORNI SOLDIER in a 1 minute mismatched match. Nobody likes Writer's Blocks. Down with them all! JUNGLE BOB (7-3032) (16-21-2,78) of INSP GADGETS MINIONS fought URSULA (45-3713) (20-12-1,79) of DARQUE FORCES. JUNGLE BOB was narrowly defeated by URSULA in a popular 4 minute fray. It wasn't so much the sword she had as the way she moved, and the things her armor didn't cover. Shameless, but successful. KYRA (51-3774) (37-35-1,94) of SAND DANCERS fought NORM PETERSON (39-2745) (38- 62-0,47) of DRINKING BUDDIES. KYRA subdued NORM PETERSON in a crowd pleasing 2 minute match. She promised to withhold his beer if he didn't give up. So, being Norm, he gave up. TASHIA (11-2740) (23-28-1,128) of DEADLY DE-PARTED fought JOYCE (25-4387) (23- 12-0,142) of HAREM. TASHIA devastated JOYCE in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided duel. Why do the male fans start shrieking and jumping around when women fight? And then they say women are the emotional ones.... GERTRUDE (44-2582) (19-6-0,158) of DARQUE FORCES fought DOLLFACE (39-2372) (53- 70-1,137) of DRINKING BUDDIES. GERTRUDE beat DOLLFACE in an exciting 4 minute fray. The steward's men are saying that before the fight, Gertrude declared her darque intention, if she won, of forcing Dollface to do dishes for the next four weeks. Talk about cruel and inhuman punishment! STONEWALL (11-3900) (45-48-2,157) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought THANATO (39-2824) (24-18-1,132) of OPHIDIAN ORDER. STONEWALL was savagely defeated by THANATO in a 8 minute brutal bout. The stewards say that Stonewall lost five pounds during that fight, and Thanato shed his skin upon exiting the arena. It was HOT. But it will be hotter next time. SANDBLASTER (11-3899) (46-47-3,154) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought AVONSIDE (13- 3927) (28-33-1,129) of KIWI CONNECTION. SANDBLASTER was savagely defeated by AVONSIDE in an exciting 1 minute gory match. Sandblaster made the mistake of opening with his characteristic "kick sand" attack, and Avonside was ready for it. DAIRY QUEEN (47-2685) (55-32-2,172) of ROYAL FLUSH fought SIDON (31-3712) (27- 17-2,148) of DARQUE FORCES. DAIRY QUEEN was overpowered by SIDON in an action packed 2 minute one-sided fight. Dare I say that Sidon "licked" Dairy Queen? Because that's just what he did. ATONEMENT (82-761) (36-25-0,194) of A UNIT XV fought FENGAR II (20-61) (99-68- 1,205) of OVERLORDS. ATONEMENT handily defeated FENGAR II in an action packed 1 minute mismatched bout. Ah, Fengar, you might have done better to stay in Lirin Kiv. SANDMAN (11-3923) (49-45-2,207) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought DISCO QUEEN (47-1992) (29-9-1,178) of ROYAL FLUSH. SANDMAN was savagely defeated by DISCO QUEEN in an action packed 8 minute gory duel. This is the second eight-minute fight, and I have to tell you, that's two too many. Also, the reflections off Disco's crown were a savage counterpoint to the heat. JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (78-55-2,207) of ROYAL FLUSH fought AULIC (25-3944) (31- 25-0,200) of A UNIT. JACK VALTRAEDS was savagely defeated by AULIC in an exciting 6 minute gruesome bout. Ah, this one was a "mere" six minutes long. Still too long in this heat. The orderlies have taken to having a couple of tubs of water in the exit corridor, and win or lose, as soon as a gladiator comes off the sands, into the water he goes to re-hydrate himself. NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (66-22-0,239) of PARTY ANIMALS fought YENDOR (6-503) (57- 47-0,186) of FEARSOME LEGENDS. NEWT GINGRICH slimly lost to YENDOR in a popular 5 minute gruesome match. A fearsome legend indeed! And Newts are at a disadvantage on dry, hot days, of course. CANADIAN MIST (50-1136) (31-18-1,235) of CANADIAN CLUB fought BEERVAHNA (60- 4292) (27-27-3,185) of INGRATE WHITE NORTH. CANADIAN MIST subdued BEERVAHNA in a popular 4 minute fight. Am I correct in guessing that a Canadian mist is cool and moist? If so, that would explain Beervahna's determination to draw the fight out. Not that four minutes is long by some standards. SITS ON HIS DUFF (73-1810) (33-16-3,236) of THINGS GEORGE DOES fought THE BLACKSMITH (106-22) (0-0-0,181) of Gentle Fans. SITS ON HIS DUFF handily defeated THE BLACKSMITH in a 2 minute uneven duel. One of the more unfortunate incidents of the day--the Blacksmith was called into the arena to mend a loose rivet in the arenamaster's gear, and next thing he knew, he was fighting. And now the challenge matches: AB DESTINED 4 THE DA (65-1154) (11-3-2,67) of PAUL'Z PHARTZ challenged GABRIA HAND (39-3294) (24-21-1,69) of THE MIDDLE WAY. Up 2. AB DESTINED 4 THE DA won victory over GABRIA HAND in a 1 minute Challenge match. I'm sure the result came as no surprise to Gabria, but at least she didn't die. Given her past record here, that has got to be a plus. MATADOR (11-4139) (33-29-2,71) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS challenged MIRTA (51-4033) (37-24-1,86) of SAND DANCERS. Up 15. MATADOR was devastated by MIRTA in a 2 minute gory one-sided Challenge contest. A determined wench, this Mirta. Did you notice how she turned the red cape into red ribbons before starting in on Matador himself? I believe she may have resented being called a "cow." BELGOROTH (50-3175) (24-24-0,99) of DARK SIDHE challenged CARLA (39-2428) (55- 65-1,107) of DRINKING BUDDIES. Up 8. BELGOROTH was beaten by CARLA in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge fight. Something seems to have annoyed the usually good- tempered Carla, and I don't think it was the challenge itself. Or the heat. So what did you SAY to her, Belgoroth? TYRE (31-3713) (25-14-0,93) of DARQUE FORCES challenged SABRETOOTH (54-2269) (19-7-2,100) of RUNNING AMOK. Up 7. TYRE savagely defeated SABRETOOTH in a 2 minute brutal Challenge bout. Obviously, no saberteeth will be allowed to run amok HERE. And a good thing, too. That sort of incident could empty the arena in a matter of minutes and cost us some much-needed revenue. BALCLUTHA (14-3169) (23-26-1,134) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS challenged KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (26-11-1,167) of ROYAL FLUSH. Up 33. BALCLUTHA was devastated by KING UVDAHELL in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. Maybe thirty-three is an unlucky number. SANDPAWN (11-4169) (38-19-1,128) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS challenged MOUNTEBANK (4- 2083) (41-16-0,128) of CARNIVAL. Straight across. SANDPAWN was outlasted by MOUNTEBANK in a unpopular 41 minute Challenge brawl. Did you hear the lions roaring as their handlers brought to the gates in readiness shortly after the half-hour mark was passed? The fans come for action. MONKEY BUSINESS (25-4040) (24-14-0,149) of PRIMATES-R-US challenged SIR LY (10- 4116) (34-25-0,153) of SIR AGLIO. Up 4. MONKEY BUSINESS was bested by SIR LY in an action packed 3 minute Challenge duel. No monkeying around today. Especially with the fans in a dangerous mood after the preceding fight. BAULINDA (8-4024) (20-12-2,112) of DYSERAY challenged BUCKNER (50-2841) (23-23- 1,126) of IRON CURTAIN. Up 14. BAULINDA was defeated by BUCKNER in a popular 2 minute Challenge duel. Two minutes, yes, the fans can warm to that. Good thing you didn't go longer, though. HANNYA (73-4350) (20-3-1,108) of BLOOD LUST challenged JUAN (41-2304) (19-12- 0,130) of DREAM TEAMS. Up 22. HANNYA was overpowered by JUAN in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge conflict. I guess Juan seemed more like a nightmare to Hannya today. OUR LADY PEACE (79-1191) (21-5-2,140) of CHAPEL ROCK challenged SIR PLUS (10- 4316) (25-18-1,152) of SIR AGLIO. Up 12. OUR LADY PEACE was demolished by SIR PLUS in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. Sir has a plus of more than just charm, you know. *WINTER* (65-3644) (23-17-1,101) of ANCIENT KNIGHTS challenged DUNEDIN (14-3703) (25-29-0,118) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Up 17. *WINTER* was demolished by DUNEDIN in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. Snide remarks about height are not appreicated by many. SCUM #1 (50-2743) (43-45-0,210) of DARK SIDHE challenged GROLSCH (21-5029) (28- 3-4,219) of REAL BEER. Up 9. SCUM #1 was savagely defeated by GROLSCH in a popular 9 minute gory Challenge melee. After that earlier extravaganza, the fans were glad to see anyone with the name of "Scum" go down in defeat. Am I correct in detecting that this fight was, in substance, the beginning of the legendary "death of a thousand cuts"? LONALILTA (50-2806) (45-38-2,208) of DARK SIDHE challenged AVAUNT (10-4170) (38- 26-2,210) of A UNIT. Up 2. LONALILTA was vanquished by AVAUNT in a popular 2 minute one-sided Challenge duel. Somebody who has held the Crysaline Helm, however briefly, is not to be trifled with! JUNINHO (7-4001) (20-10-1,194) of IMPORTED FOOTBALLERS challenged KITALA THE BOLD (78-875) (76-96-2,204) of SAND DANCERS. Up 10. JUNINHO was viciously subdued by KITALA THE BOLD in a 4 minute Challenge duel. Just another step in Kitala's dedicated pursuit of a winning record. FIGHTER ACE (47-1189) (48-36-6,185) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged MAGICIAN (21-1040) (45-35-0,206) of MEDICINE SHOW. Up 21. FIGHTER ACE devastated MAGICIAN in a 2 minute one-sided Challenge competition. The Magician tried to tell Fighter that there were no aces in his deck. Bad move. TEN COMMANDMENTS (47-3843) (34-28-0,199) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged FATHER OF ALL MUNS (20-2306) (28-36-1,202) of THE FAMILY TREE. Up 3. TEN COMMANDMENTS defeated FATHER OF ALL MUNS in a 2 minute Challenge struggle. This was "most challenged" Father. It may be an honor, but it isn't fun. KING FORADAY (47-3762) (36-35-4,183) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged CANADA COOLER (50-1904) (26-17-0,197) of CANADIAN CLUB. Up 14. KING FORADAY overpowered CANADA COOLER in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge match. I could overpower a couple of coolers, myself. F.O.A.D. (73-442) (27-10-2,191) of ALPHABET SOUP challenged CRUMBSNATCHER (72- 1842) (44-25-1,208) of ONE GOOD DUDE. Up 17. F.O.A.D. overpowered CRUMBSNATCHER in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge duel. It was sneaky to go out with a pocket full of crumbs and throw them on the sand.... PRINCE APPLE (47-325) (93-68-2,214) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged KALANDRA (50-2443) (48-54-3,221) of DARK SIDHE. Up 7. PRINCE APPLE was subdued by KALANDRA in an exciting 1 minute Challenge melee. Meaning no disrespect to either of you, I think the most exciting thing was that this was the next to the last fight, and we were all looking forward to going home, or at least to somewhere shady and cooler. And for the title, not one to leave it to chance, WILLIE MAKIT (73-514) (96-36- 2,379) of MISTAKEN IDENTITY challenged SNOOPER (1-5154) (28-15-3,280) of MIKE'S MISFITS. Down 101. WILLIE MAKIT devastated SNOOPER in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight. Chances at the title dont come easily, Snooper. You may not appreciate it NOW, but later, after you recover, you'll be able to boast of fighting for the Crysaline Helm. And congratulations to Willie. THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE Newt Gingrich -- Very interesting challenge. I thought I avoided you. -- Magician You have something against Newts? Willie Makit -- Congrats on taking the T.G. A bold challenge. -- Carny Sir Boyd -- I regret I must inform Aruak City to remove you AD-HOC-POST-HASTE from Aruak City for not being an Andorian. -- Mountebank, Carnival Sir Boyd -- However Magician of the Medicine Show is willing to treat and advise. -- Mountebank Sir Boyd -- I can deal with all problems except mental. If you have a dog bite with bleeding I would scold you and pet the dog. Drowning with pale or blue skin I would talk about what a great guy you were. -- Magician, Medicine Show Sir Plus -- Some cheap shots on your part. -- Mountebank Who can afford expensive ones? Sir Boyd -- Yes, you got my manager name right. I don't know about Mike or his Misfits. I don't even know how I got to be labeled as significant. Maybe I need to lay off the brew for a while. -- Brewmaster Sir Boyd -- Ohh! I see how this got started...you kinda started a little firestorm with Manager. Anyway thanks for the acknowledgement. -- Brewmaster Sir Boyd -- Looks like Crysalis has the highest personal ads to fight ratio of any of the ADM arenas, may even have the most personal ads period. We just need to get more warriors here. But until you get someone here in the arena, no one really knows who to address anything to. -- Crip Sir Ly -- If it really bothered you that much, I would have brought a keg rather than my normal case. -- Beervahna Sir Ly -- Actually, when we fought, I still hadn't reached 20 skills in any of the 6 areas yet. Fortunately, that situation has been corrected. I can't wait until I'm considered a skilled warrior. -- Juninho Stonewall -- First Of Ancient Duelists perhaps? -- F.O.A.D. Ah! Sandman -- Just make sure you don't sit your duff on my battle axe. -- Sits on His... Father of All Muns -- Having the strength to carry a shortsword is a mean achievement. When you have the strength to carry my midget-sized armour, then I may start to tremble. -- Willie Makit Crumbsnatcher -- Someone has to stick around and clean up the floor after dinner. -- King Foraday Magician -- Boiling Hot Rabbits? Reminds me of a fatal attraction I once had. -- Jack Valtraeds Kitala the Training Demon -- Soon you won't be eligible for any more deftness trains, but not much else. -- Juninho Kitala the Demon Skill Teaching Instructor -- An Expert Rating!!!! Imagine how that's going to improve my win-loss record now! -- Grolsch Cathorsis Jeddak -- You know, I'm beginning to realize that it's not healthy to challenge anyone up here. -- King Foraday Father of All Muns -- I think you still need to work on that strength a bit. -- Jack Valtraeds Snooper -- I feel like I've been shot down by the Red Baron. Oh, sorry, you are not Snoopy. But I have to admit, you look a lot like Woodstock though. -- Fighter Ace Sir Ly -- Oooh! Such nice skills from someone so small. -- King Uvdahell Stonewall -- And you thought F.O.A.D. hit hard. -- Dairy Queen, packing a lethal banana split Crumbsnatcher -- Not even allowing me a little dribble on the edge of the area. -- Juninho Sabretooth -- Why is it when you were looking a me, I could read nothing in your eyes except "LUNCH". -- Monkey Business Goldilocks -- My my, never did figure out why Kat traded his Lions for Bears. -- Our Lady Peace Dairy Queen -- I know what I was doing. It just didn't work. -- Balclutha AK47 -- It is good to hear that you will be staying around. -- the Mun All -- Well, it looks like Mad Agent #1 didn't do so well. It doesn't look too good for him if he wants to get that permanent spot on my roster. This turn Jungle Bob will try and see how well he can do. -- the Mun Ten Commandments -- No need to fear me or my stable. Look at our win loss record. I did not mean to kill you. Avoid me if it makes you sleep better at night. It was an accident. -- Sandman Mountebank -- I challenge you because you are the best Total Parry I ever fought. Prepare to meet me again. Should we dance for more than 30 minutes now. -- Sandpawn Mad Agent #1 -- NEXT! -- Sandman The Mun -- I respect you and your stables. -- AK47 Kyra -- That makes five losses in a row. I am about to accept my losing streak and start bare knuckle fighting for my losses. That way I'll have an excuse for me being a loser. -- Matador Dairy Queen -- I am not your whipping boy. Oh wait, yes I am. And F.O.A.D.'s and Snooper's and Magician's. -- Stonewall (The Stonewall is cracking from stress) Balclutha -- My luck is finally turning. -- Sandblaster Grolsch -- Well fought, but fortunately not well enough. -- Kitala the Bold and Victorious Matador -- I am no cow, much less a bull, and I think I'll take your scarlet cloak for myself. It will look splendid on me. -- Kyra P.S. You can take me to dinner, if you want. Bearnice -- Sorry about your winning record, but I looked at your number of kills and knew this would be an all-out fight. So I didn't hold back. -- Mirta Writer's Block -- A-HA! At least I can beat the mythical plague of non-writers of personals. "I meant to, but I forgot, didn't have time, my dog ate it." Bah. -- Gabria Hand Raven -- If your manager is paying attention, you should be passing me any time now. Sad but true. -- Dannia tyl Sio Juninho -- My pleasure. Drop by any time you're in the neighborhood. -- Kitala the Bold, Deft, and Victorious 30 April 2003 All -- Remember to put your arena number on your strategy sheets. Strategies turned in without an arena number run the risk of missing the turn. -- NAIEI 10 May 2003 To All -- Fellow managers, I humbly request your help. My team (Ex Oblivione) was started in Monuntial (DM 34) back in '92. They were active for seven months. I have lost all early traces of them. If any of you can help with copies of relevant newsletters or, if you fought one of my warriors, copies of the fights, I would greatly appreciate it. I only have one of my original warriors left from the early team now active in DM 60. You can diplo me with any info here in the wonderful city of Aradi. Thank you in advance. -- Enigma, manager Ex Oblivione 15 May 2003 Assurnasirbanipal invites all to use his computerized warrior management tool. The program is the most extensive management tool ever created. It was meant to run on a PALM OS PDA, but will run (emulated) on a PC or MAC. You can get this program on the web at: http://www.geocities.com/assurnasir 27 May 2003 A note to everyone regarding manager names and manager lists -- If you're running a team incognito, all you have to do is let me know and I won't put your name on any manager lists. It has seemed though, that more people want their names listed, even if they do not announce themselves, than the other way around. Also, I do maintain the list more or less by hand and errors do creep in. You have but to say I've made an error and no one will be the wiser (except thee and me, of course). -- The Saint, keeper of lists LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS WILLIE MAKIT devastated SNOOPER in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight.
