Ashon Chang repeated. He frowned at Herlas. "That sounds too easy. The Eye of the West is not where it's supposed to be," he guessed. "On Kurzanica? No, I don't think it is," Herlas agreed. He kept a wary eye on Rughal, which was not difficult since the ranger had a nearly-strangling grip on the wizard's throat. "I would guess it's somewhere on the mainland, probably in Zinaco somewhere. But you can't interfere! The preservation of the Arcanum is essential, anyone's life is nothing in the face of the disaster to be avert--" Rughal closed his fingers more tightly around the Fratsfan's throat, choking him to silence. "We don't need him anymore now, do we?" he asked almost casually. "He might still have his uses," Ashon Chang said slowly, and Werre nodded with him. "But we cannot trust him--" "Did we ever?" Vurand demanded. "The thing is, we can't guard him properly because none of us do magic. Better just to kill him." He took a step closer to Herlas, who was helpless in the grip of both Rughal and Ashon Chang. "I'll help... strangling him is too fast, Rughal." "Just...? In cold blood?" Jammies asked, swallowing hard. "Who says my blood is cold right now?" Vurand growled. The Orc flexed his large hands and bared his fangs in a hungry grin. "Who says any of us are feeling cold about this? Even you, boy." Jammies opened his mouth to argue the point and stopped, staring at Rughal. The young gladiator knew himself to be average and no more in the matter of the more esoteric martial arts as studied in Lirith Kai, but he had training enough to realize that he was seeing something extraordinary now. Light was emerging from the darkness around them, swirling in a haze that shaded from gold to increasingly red, hotter and brighter with every passing instant. The source was Rughal, the fury was Rughal's, and Jammies wondered if the ranger intended to kill Herlas with a manifestation of hiu. He backed away a couple of steps without realizing that he was doing it; there didn't seem to be enough air to breathe so close to all that power. Werre pushed past the younger Adantri and forced his way toward Rughal; he looked like he was wading against a strong current. He grabbed Rughal's shoulder and leaned close, saying something Jammies couldn't hear. Rughal turned his head slowly to look at Werre. The ranger's face was quite calm, which Jammies found shocking. Calm, but not really aware of anything beyond himself and Herlas. It seemed like a year before Rughal's eyes actually focused on Werre. The four of them, Ashon Chang, Herlas, Rughal, and Werre, all clustered together, were half-hidden by the steadily thickening haze of rage, as though they were embedded in blood-colored amber. Beside Jammies, Vurand growled. "They're going to let the damned wizard live, I bet." Jammies shrugged uncomfortably. "Well...I know he's no friend of ours, and he's a wizard, and...but I don't like the idea of just killing him out of hand." The Orc snorted. "That's what civilization does to people, makes you all soft!" Jammies opened his mouth to refute this and was knocked from his feet and half- deafened by an explosion. He struggled to one elbow and saw that Herlas was sprawled on the deck, while Werre and Ashon Chang were holding Rughal backed against the low wall of the ship's cabin. The haze of rage and hiu was gone, but there was still anger enough in Rughal's tense posture to alarm a sensible man. Werre had one hand clamped around Rughal's wrist to prevent the ranger from drawing his sword. "We still need him," Ashon Chang said, his voice hard. "Without Shania, we need him because we have no way to find the Eye of the West. We could walk right past it and not know." Rughal growled something that was barely words. "You watch him, then," Ashon Chang said, "and I will help sail this boat. We need him alive, Rughal. He is our best tool to find Lady Shania." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Eye of the Storm #61 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Rithakar: Onuphre had disarmed the man and was now holding him in an iron grip to prevent him bleeding to death from the stump. Seeing that he had his companions' attention again, the Shew said, "I thought we might want to ask this fellow some questions." "What an excellent idea!" Tamea Soulkeeper purred. She moved closer to the Shew's prisoner and examined him curiously. "He appears to be of a race unknown in Alastari," she murmured, then glanced at the blood leaking from the stump of the man's arm. It was an unusual shade of red, almost coppery. "Of an unknown species entirely. I wonder where the Folstrom found him?" "Stop wondering and ask your questions," Onuphre suggested. "He isn't going to last long, as much blood as he's lost." Tamea gave the Shew a look that would have put a dagger to shame for sharpness and addressed a brisk question to the prisoner in a language none of the other gladiators recognized. The man stared at her blankly, then mumbled a few words. The witch frowned and rapped out another question in what sounded like a different language. The man shook his head feebly. "Those other people make my head spin," Debby Tonte announced. She was glaring at the main body of lancers, who were still rippling and fading in and out of solidity. "They make me feel like I forgot the umbrella in my drink, or, you know, no olives. I don't like it." Bellerophon and Mr. Testosterone turned to look at the larger group again. It didn't appear to offer much danger, if the lancers couldn't even rejoin the active universe. "That sphere the banner-man is carrying!" Mr. Testosterone said suddenly. "Could that be the Eye we're looking for?" Ultraist* squinted at it and nodded once. "It could be," the big Aruaki admitted. "It looks pretty much the way the Eye looked--if it was the Eye--when I saw it last. But how would they come to have it?" "If that's the Eye of the South," Bellerophon answered briskly, "it doesn't matter how they got it. We have to get it back." This declaration gathered the attention of the whole group that had originally set out from the Isle. After the delays and disappointments experienced so far, the possibility of actually being able to accomplish their task was invigorating. "How do we get it from them?" E.A. Polecat demanded. "They aren't all here, I mean, they're not in this world completely, and if they can't touch us, we can't touch them, right?" "We can get right in among them with our swords drawn," Skirnir suggested. Holding his blade at the ready, he moved forward as he spoke. The others rushed to join him, out of loyalty and duty and from a simple desire to have, finally, a clear fight that they could win. Because they were going to win. At their near approach, the lancers seemed to get a firmer grip on reality and become solid, or nearly so, but at the same time many of them began to age with appalling swiftness, as though all the years they had slept through were falling on them at once. Skirnir, who found himself paired with Black Skull, the retired Rocani Lord Protector, headed for the banner man who had what was probably the Eye of the South. Bellerophon and Natasha Knight targeted the leader of the troop, and the other gladiators spread out to do as much damage as they could. The man with the banner and the Eye shouted when he found himself beset by two warriors, and others rallied to his side, including the leader. The battle was brief but fierce, the end inevitable. Though they had the advantages of numbers and of being mounted, the lancers were weary and confused, and when one of them took a deadly wound, he rapidly collapsed into a pile of bones that crumbled to dust. Black Skull looked over the seen of the battle, shaken. Nothing remained of the men they'd fought, who had fought them with the fierceness of desperation, but dust drifting away on the wind, and a few pieces of age-weakened metal--spearheads, a helmet or two, a buckle.... "That was..." he shook his head, unable to think of a word to describe his feeling. "It was as bad, in its way, as though we'd lost," Bellerophon said grimly. "But we won." He stepped carefully through the dust to the spherical stone, white and dead as the moon, that might be all that remained of the Eye of the South. "Better not to touch it!" Ultraist advised, coming up beside him. "Right! Remember what it did to that poor dragon!" Debby Tonte added, joining them. She rummaged in her straw bag and pulled out a large towel. "Roll it into this, so you can carry it safely. We can take it back to HER, and then forget about it. And the sooner the better, too!" *Ultraist is now known as Sylvester Frothingslosh. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Tides of Magic #8 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + The Isle of the Eye, Talahya: "Okay," Carris Fallstar said, "how do we tackle your two angles? How do we find where the, uh, 'magical links' that bind the Isle to Alastari are located?" Everyone turned to look at Moonjumper, who frowned at the ground between her feet. "I'm not sure," she said slowly, "but I might--only might--be able to identify them. But it would help a LOT if I had some idea, however vague, of what the identifying characteristics of such a site WERE." All eyes now moved to the old wizard. Fizban sighed. "I suppose 'used to be strongly magical but nothing working there now' is not enough?" "You suppose correctly!" Carris muttered. "What an idea--used to be...." He shook his head. "The Isle positively reeks of magic, past and present, and well you must know it, if you're any kind of wizard at all!" "Look," Scarlatti interrupted, "I don't know much about magic, but it stands to reason that the kind we're talking about would be different than, um, regular magic, and a lot more powerful. There must be some way to tell that?" There was a silence that seemed long. Finally Rogan said, "What about the ferry docks? That's where the physical connections are anchored, so why shouldn't the magical connections be in the same locations?" "Sounds good," Scarlatti agreed. "Can you lead us to a ferry dock through this fog?" The blind gladiator smiled faintly. "Easily." He set off down the street, and the others fell in behind him. The city was mostly silent, and the gladiators met no one as they hurried toward the shore. There were people about--now and then they could hear footsteps fading away, or voices just too muffled to be understandable. The fog was so heavy that even their immediate surroundings seemed unreal. A sound shook the air, heavy as a mountain, dull as despair. It was repeated six times. "Gods!" Fizban wiped sweat from his face. "What was it?" Carris asked, one hand on his sword. "A clock tolling the hour of seven," Moonjumper guessed, but she sounded unsure of it. "Maybe the one at the Stronghold Academy...." "It never sounded like that before," Scarlatti growled. "Another sign of the differences here and now, wherever and whenever here and now is." Rogan pulled his cloak a little more snugly around himself, though the evening was no colder now than it had been an hour ago. Or maybe it was colder. It was impossible to be sure. Sooner than they expected, the cobbles underfoot changed to planks, and the smell of the air changed from stone and fog to mud and fish and water. Carris Fallstar stopped and sniffed, then drew in a lungful of air and seemed to taste it slowly. "Salt water, I could swear it smells like salt water," he muttered. "But the lake is fresh!" Scarlatti protested. "But is this the lake we remember?" Fizban asked. "I doubt it." The Isle of the Eye, Lirin Kiv: The carriage jolted as though the pavement had suddenly ended, rolled a few feet farther, and stopped. After a moment, there was a creaking shift as the driver climbed down. Shylock glimpsed his lantern moving through the fog, going ahead past the horses, then coming back. The face that appeared at the window was white, eyes round with disbelief. "The road is lost," the driver said hoarsely. Shylock frowned at him. "You mean YOU are lost--" "No! I swear, I was following the road right along, and then it...it just wasn't there anymore!" Shylock looked hard at the driver and decided the man wasn't lying. He might be mistaken, but he believed what he was saying. And if he wasn't mistaken.... Well, better to find out for himself, the gladiator decided. He unlatched the door and stepped down from the carriage. "Wait here," he said over his shoulder to Clemenda. "Not hardly!" She climbed down after him. The driver held up his lantern, swinging it from side to side, which set shadows swooping wildly. Shylock took the lantern away from him and held it steady. It was true. A pace behind the rear wheels of the carriage were the flat stones of the roadway. Under the wheels and ahead was rocky dirt and tangled grasses and no sign that there'd ever been a road. "Amazing," Shylock murmured, "this is something quite without precedent, so far as I know. I wonder what else has changed?" "Don't say that!" Clemenda looked around fearfully. "I like things to be ordinary," she whispered, "no surprises...." "It would appear that surprises are the name of the entertainment tonight," Shylock countered. "Still.... Driver, take us back the way we came, to Lirin Kiv." The man hurried to climb back onto the box as Shylock assisted Clemenda into the body of the carriage again. The horses were turned, and they went rumbling back onto the paving and southward...or at least, back. No telling if it was still south. Shylock leaned out the window to watch ahead. Even in this fog, it should be possible to see the lighted tower of the Temple of Mantor for a fair distance. Judging the current speed of the horses against the pace at which they had come out, it should be possible to see it now. But he didn't see it. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Tides of Magic #9 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Talahya? Scarlatti knelt on the stony beach and scooped a hand through the water, sniffed it, then touched his tongue to it. "Salt. This is weird. Only something really strange could change a freshwater, inland lake to salt water." "Unless," Fizban repeated, "it's not the lake we remember." "Well, that'd be pretty strange, too." Rogan cleared his throat. "That isn't all that's strange," the blind man said. "You sense it, too?" Moonjumper asked. "But of course, you would--" "We aren't in Talahya," Rogan confirmed. "At least, in no part of Talahya I've ever encountered, and we were walking a known route. I sense a different pattern of buildings and open spaces around us." "We passed through some sort of Gate," Moonjumper added. "I sense quite a different pattern of energies around us, as well. So what do we do now?" She turned to Fizban and Carris Fallstar. "How do we go about investigating...whatever it is that makes this not the Isle?" Before the old wizard could answer, Carris said, "We were headed for the ferry docks on the Isle, and we've come to a shore. Maybe there are ferries near here. Let's find 'em." "Why?" Scarlatti asked. "Why not?" the elf countered. "It's a place to start." Lirin Kiv? The town that finally emerged from the fog bore some resemblance to Lirin Kiv, but it was definitely not the Adantri town. The architecture they could see was similar in style, but different in detail, the streets were laid out in different curves and lined with different trees, some of them totally unfamiliar to Shylock and Clemenda. Where the Temple of Mantor should have been was a temple to...somebody else. By the symbols on the facade, some kind of solar deity, Shylock thought. The carriage came to a stop, and the driver dismounted again, to peer anxiously through the window at his passengers. "I don't know where we are," he admitted, "but it's nowhere I've been before. Now what?" "See if there's anything like an arena here," Shylock ordered. "If there is, it'll be a point of contact, I think." "Where do I look?" Shylock bit back an exasperated comment which wouldn't help. The man was stupid, but it would do no good to rub his nose in that dismal fact. "Look where you would expect to find the Lirin Kiv arena, if this were Lirin Kiv and that was the Temple of Mantor." The driver clambered back onto his perch and set the horses in motion. "Something this strange, Lady Sheila would have to know about it, wouldn't she?" Clemenda asked. "I've always understood that she knows about every bit of magic that's performed on the Isle." "Maybe she's not paying attention," Shylock answered. His eyes gleamed at the possibilities opened up by Sheila not paying attention. "She's got other things on her mind, I suppose--the decline in the Arcanum and all that...." He frowned slightly. "Wherever we are, THIS Arcanum hasn't declined!" * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 232): DOMINO of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard The spy reporter makes a big deal that I downchallenge 101 points, but then again, this was the closest warrior to me in the standings, so therefore, the #1 contender. Looked a lot different than my fight against Avaunt, and that's the difference between the Challenge and If Challenged sides of the strategy sheet. Besides Fengar II, it looks like Abby may have a couple of warrior who could cause trouble in Atonement and Aulic, and Yendors is another newcomer about whom very little is known. May or may not be a threat. Otherwise, the split seemed to be pretty stable here in Crysalis. I believe this turn my challenges go to Canadian Mist and Avaunt. Good luck to all. Fingers crossed that I get to participate in the Philly Phacer. Willie Makit Mistaken Identity REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER Willie, did I speak harshly of your challenge last time? It must have been an effect of the heat. Anyway, I don't remember. It's still hot, but I will forebear to mention challenges in any way that suggests I have an opinion. Well, on day like this, I don't have an opinion. It's much too hot for that. Non-judgmentally, I note that Dark Sidhe was avoided by Royal Flush. And I think that Avaunt may have gotten the most challenges. It's hard to tell, because the notes are obscure. I do think the Commission should invest in some truly permanent ink, don't you? Spill your iced tea on this, and it's gone. Thirty-three fights today, and how that many people could get up the energy, I can't imagine. The longest fight was five minutes, and five fights tied for that. Very symmetrical. Sixteen of the matches were the result of challenges issued and accepted. Nobody died. Three standbys fought. The cold drinks booth sold out before ten of the fights were done. FOGGY (72-4595) (8-1-2,27) of DARQUE FORCES fought MATADOR (11-4139) (33-30- 2,69) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. FOGGY viciously subdued MATADOR in an action packed 4 minute gory match. I'm beginning to worry about Matador's winning record. ESPRESSO (47-4556) (14-7-1,50) of COFFEE RULES! fought NORM PETERSON (39-2745) (38-63-0,55) of DRINKING BUDDIES. ESPRESSO handily defeated NORM PETERSON in a 5 minute brutal one-sided fight. Coffee is not one of the things Norm is accustomed to drinking. DR. NO-NOOKIE (50-865) (25-9-0,84) of MASTER BLASTERS fought URSULA (45-3713) (21-12-1,87) of DARQUE FORCES. DR. DANNIA TYL SIO (52-3393) (27-17-1,80) of SAND DANCERS fought NIBENAY (71-3380) (20-16-1,55) of DARQUE FORCES. DANNIA TYL SIO vanquished NIBENAY in a 2 minute mismatched fight. TYRE was savagely defeated by BELGOROTH in an exciting 2 minute brutal fight. I can't tell you why this was exciting, because it was fought in the darque. Or dark, depending on who was primarily responsible. CARLA (39-2428) (56-65-1,111) of DRINKING BUDDIES fought MIRTA (51-4033) (38-24- 1,95) of SAND DANCERS. SIR LY savagely defeated BAULINDA in an action packed 2 minute brutal competition. Savage and brutal, yes, that fits. TASHIA (11-2740) (24-28-1,152) of DEADLY DE-PARTED fought SANDPAWN (11-4169) (38-20-1,127) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. TASHIA was overcome by SANDPAWN in an action packed 4 minute bout. De Parts of Tashia all over the sand were rather gruesome. BEERVAHNA (60-4292) (27-28-3,191) of INGRATE WHITE NORTH fought SIDON (31-3712) (28-17-2,180) of DARQUE FORCES. BEERVAHNA won victory over SIDON in an action packed 1 minute bout. It's quite a trick to pack so much action into a single minute. TEN COMMANDMENTS (47-3843) (35-28-0,208) of ROYAL FLUSH fought THANATO (39-2824) (25-18-1,151) of OPHIDIAN ORDER. TEN COMMANDMENTS viciously subdued THANATO in a popular 5 minute brutal fight. Stone tablets can be used for many things, can't they, Ten? DISCO QUEEN (47-1992) (30-9-1,199) of ROYAL FLUSH fought IMPRISONED SPY (106-9) (0-0-0,170) of Random People. DISCO QUEEN was overpowered by IMPRISONED SPY in an exciting 1 minute uneven fight. The Spy got away, and there is a reward for anyone who can catch him and bring him back. FENGAR II (20-61) (99-69-1,190) of OVERLORDS fought JUNINHO (7-4001) (20-11- 1,194) of IMPORTED FOOTBALLERS. FENGAR II vanquished JUNINHO in a popular 1 minute brutal mismatched fray. Experience makes a difference. PRINCE APPLE (47-325) (93-69-2,196) of ROYAL FLUSH fought AMBER WOLFWALKER (106- 11) (0-0-0,220) of Random People. PRINCE APPLE overpowered AMBER WOLFWALKER in a popular 2 minute one-sided duel. Good! She's been getting too uppity. GROLSCH (21-5029) (29-3-4,227) of REAL BEER fought TEMPUS (31-538) (31-23-0,198) of THE STORMGUARDS. GROLSCH slimly won victory over TEMPUS in a crowd pleasing 4 minute gory competition. Is a slim victory more pleasing to the eye than a stout one? And now for the challenge matches: 300 (78-2346) (15-9-0,54) of PBA challenged WRITER'S (79-1069) (25-52-1,27) of BLOCKS. Down 27. 300 was narrowly defeated by WRITER'S in an exciting 3 minute Challenge bout. Write a personal anyway, 300! DROSS (31-4305) (15-11-2,52) of SOLIPSISM II challenged GABRIA HAND (39-3294) (24-22-1,65) of THE MIDDLE WAY. Up 13. DROSS bested GABRIA HAND in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge brawl. Gabria, tell your manager that strategy changes ARE allowed. Which is not to cast a shadow over Dross's victory, just a comment in passing. SABRETOOTH (54-2269) (19-8-2,94) of RUNNING AMOK challenged KYRA (51-3774) (38- 35-1,96) of SAND DANCERS. Up 2. SABRETOOTH was devastated by KYRA in a 2 minute brutal uneven Challenge duel. Why Kyra should want to make her opponent's hide into a fur coat in THIS weather, I don't know. JOYCE (25-4387) (23-13-0,125) of HAREM challenged MONKEY BUSINESS (25-4040) (24- 15-0,150) of PRIMATES-R-US. Up 25. JOYCE was handily defeated by MONKEY BUSINESS in a 1 minute uneven Challenge fight. Handily AND footily. HANNYA (73-4350) (20-4-1,107) of BLOOD LUST challenged JUAN (41-2304) (20-12- 0,144) of DREAM TEAMS. Up 37. HANNYA demolished JUAN in a popular 2 minute bloody mismatched Challenge match. Not a dream, but a nightmare, eh, Juan? STONEWALL (11-3900) (45-49-2,142) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS challenged DOLLFACE (39- 2372) (53-71-1,142) of DRINKING BUDDIES. Straight across. STONEWALL narrowly defeated DOLLFACE in a 5 minute Challenge competition. Is there any truth to the rumor that Dollface surrendered "because it felt so good to stop"? OUR LADY PEACE (79-1191) (21-6-2,135) of CHAPEL ROCK challenged MOUNTEBANK (4- 2083) (42-16-0,140) of CARNIVAL. Up 5. OUR LADY PEACE viciously subdued MOUNTEBANK in a popular 4 minute Challenge bout. Vicious? Mountebank brings out that side in some people. DAIRY QUEEN (47-2685) (55-33-2,153) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SIR PLUS (10-4316) (26-18-1,167) of SIR AGLIO. Up 14. DAIRY QUEEN defeated SIR PLUS in a 2 minute Challenge match. Some people just can't handle an extra large cone, chocolate dipped, and with nuts sprinkled on it. It can be messy, but trust me, it's worth it. KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (27-11-1,169) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged MAGICIAN (21- 1040) (45-36-0,185) of MEDICINE SHOW. Up 16. KING UVDAHELL vanquished MAGICIAN in an action packed 1 minute uneven Challenge fight. Is there any truth to the rumor that King introduced a black rabbit into the fight, and that this in some fashion led to Magician's defeat? NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (66-23-0,194) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged SCUM #1 (50- 2743) (43-46-0,205) of DARK SIDHE. Up 11. NEWT GINGRICH viciously subdued SCUM #1 in an action packed 4 minute Challenge melee. I heard that slighting remarks concerning amphibians, or perhaps reptiles, were passed during this fight. I wouldn't slight anybody who can keep their blood cold in this weather. KING FORADAY (47-3762) (37-35-4,208) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged AULIC (25-3944) (32-25-0,220) of A UNIT. Up 12. KING FORADAY was savagely defeated by AULIC in a 5 minute Challenge brawl. Thus bearing out the impression that Aulic is a man to watch. SANDMAN (11-3923) (49-46-2,192) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS challenged LONALILTA (50- 2806) (45-39-2,194) of DARK SIDHE. Up 2. SANDMAN was devastated by LONALILTA in a 2 minute bloody one-sided Challenge duel. Was this a classic "White Knight, Dark Elven Woman" kind of situation? JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (78-56-2,200) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SNOOPER (1-5154) (28-16-3,205) of MIKE'S MISFITS. Up 5. JACK VALTRAEDS devastated SNOOPER in an exciting 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. Some people don't LIKE snoopers. Narrow-minded of them, perhaps, but there it is. F.O.A.D. (73-442) (28-10-2,217) of ALPHABET SOUP challenged ATONEMENT (82-761) (37-25-0,224) of A UNIT XV. Up 7. F.O.A.D. lost to ATONEMENT in a 2 minute Challenge brawl. Ah, but what is F atoning for, that's what we want to know! FIGHTER ACE (47-1189) (49-36-6,211) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged KALANDRA (50-2443) (49-54-3,242) of DARK SIDHE. Up 31. FIGHTER ACE was demolished by KALANDRA in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge melee. Didn't we just have something along these lines? But with the Ace winning. Well, sharing is good. SITS ON HIS DUFF (73-1810) (34-16-3,244) of THINGS GEORGE DOES challenged AVAUNT (10-4170) (39-26-2,227) of A UNIT. Down 17. SITS ON HIS DUFF was devastated by AVAUNT in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Looks like George had better get off his duff. And for the title, not a challenge match: WILLIE MAKIT (73-514) (97-36-2,397) of MISTAKEN IDENTITY fought KITALA THE BOLD (78-875) (77-96-2,215) of SAND DANCERS. THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE Stonewall -- I prefer Dipping Cones to Whipping Boys, but to each their own. -- Dairy Queen Snooper -- You do know that your manager is allowed to tweak your strategy, don't you? -- Willie Makit I think there are several managers around who don't realize that! Kalandra -- It is getting hard to deny your talent. -- Prince Apple Keep trying. Crumbsnatcher -- A pleasant surprise after the manhandling you've given my stablemates. -- F.O.A.D. Canada Cooler -- Wine, Rhum or Vodka? -- King Foraday Father of All Muns -- That's just what I need, the ability to carry additional stone tablets. -- Ten Commandments Stone tablets have their good points. No risk of folding, spindling, or mutilating, although they do tend to chip. Magician -- Presto! Change-O! Spin the bottle of Doc Butter tonic. -- Fighter Ace Kitala the Not Training as Well as I Used To -- I much prefer it when you hand out four skills instead of one. -- Juninho Scum#1 -- One does not get a record like mine by having a weakness for your type. -- Grolsch Sir Plus -- Ouch! That puts me 11-1 against your style now. -- Our Lady Peace Sir Ly -- A pair of sirs beat a Queen and a Primate. Should have read up on my poker rules. -- Monkey Business New rules. Balclutha -- Watch out for the big & slow. -- King Uvdahell Canadian Mist -- Willie tells me you've earned the right to a title fight. -- Beervahna Yendor -- Certainly not the fight I was expecting. Welcome to Crysalis. -- Newt Gingrich Aulic -- I assume you are one of the hired hands that Avaunt claimed to have been bringing in. I can't welcome you to Crysalis since you've been here before, but there's nothing wrong with a welcome back. -- Jack Valtraeds, but obviously getting up off the ground isn't one of them Sandman -- Good to see you are only about 10 skills ahead of me in that rating. -- Disco Queen Sidon -- Hopefully, knocking me that far down the rankings will help my record in the long term, but for now, man, it sure felt like a kick in the teeth. -- Dairy Queen Crip -- I finally made it. -- Mr. Coffee Hi. -- Livia, your spy reporter here Kat -- Hello. -- Mr. Coffee Drake -- Different Team, Same Drake. -- Mr. Coffee Jorja -- Greetings, can't wait to see some Middle Way 3 warriors here. -- Mr. Coffee Carny -- Greetings. -- Mr. Coffee To the Rest -- Greetings. I am Mr. Coffee of Coffee Rules. I hope to make my home arena proud and offer you some good fights! -- Mr. Coffee Crip -- It is likely that most managers share your opinion about a TP challenging an AB, but I believe the best warrior should be in the tower. If mine stayed because he avoided someone, he's not the best. And by the way, Avaunt is not the best of A Unit. I'm after the top three spots in the arena. -- Abby, A Unit mgr. P.S. Don't remove any of your warriors. The numbers would just decrease. Crip -- Keep running what you wish. Your warriors and you are always well met. Great to see you back in Chimlevtal. -- The Icelord Juninho -- Ah, the pleasures of an intimate little arena! We are always meeting our friends, everywhere we go! A bold attempt, sir. -- Kitala the Bold Matador -- Really! Do I look like some stupid bull? Of course not, the very idea! Leave the red cape at HOME next time. -- Mirta P.S. I'm keeping the red ribbons. I think I'll braid them into my hair before the next fight. AB Destined for the DA -- What an awful name! Did your manager hate you? I sometimes think MINE hates ME--at least, I never see a strategy change, and I could sure USE one. I'm probably not even using my favorite weapon. (sigh) Good fight, for you. Good skills for me, though, which helps. -- Gabria Hand Norm Peterson -- Now, that was a fight I really liked! I got the win and FOUR SKILLS! Amazing. Truly amazing. -- Kyra the Delighted P.S. The deal with the beer was supposed to be private, I have no idea how Livia heard about it. It was in the notes when I picked them up at the Commission office. Raven -- Never more, kid. -- Dannia tyl Sio Juninho -- The worst thing about getting all my training stacked up is that I'm likely to get Inducted some day soon. I don't want that, because I have no illusions about my ability to win in Primus--it's non-existent. -- Kitala the So-Far-Not- Inducted Grolsch -- Any time. -- Kitala With Nothing Better to Do Than Teach Skills Matador -- Sounds like an excellent plan. When do you go bare-knuckle on us? -- Kyra AK47 -- Why, thank you. -- the Mun Willie Makit and Jack Valtraeds -- Well, after this last fight I do feel a little bit stronger, if you know what I mean. -- Father of all Muns All -- Welcome back to all the Managers that have come back to Crysalis. Also welcome to all the new Managers that have just moved in. I hope you stay a while. -- the Mun Ten Commandments -- You just had to pull your back up weapon, and after that last hit, I don't know if I will be able to have any more little muns running around. -- Father of all Muns Think of the savings! All -- Not a good turn for Jungle Bob. The guys from Insp Gadgets Minions didn't do well at all. I will not be running the extra guys this turn due to the tourney coming up. -- the Mun Fighter Ace -- A bold and amazing challenge--you pulled the ol' "catapult" ploy. -- Magician Willie Makit -- No I'm sure it has more to do with the loss of "Wizard of Oz" etc etc Crew. Your crew sharpens our blades. -- Carny Sandpawn -- A pleasure. Always welcome. -- Mountebank Avaunt -- Did you hear Sandpawn last cycle? I believe his quote was that "I am the best TP to ever have fought." -- Mountebank Avaunt -- As such, as the best I now claim the title of top warrior style (TP). -- Mountebank Willie Makit -- For my next title claim I am now calling you out. -- Mountebank F.O.A.D. -- How about Frogs Off And Die? -- Stonewall (not as dumb perhaps as he looks) Kyra -- I be happy to take you to dinner providing we eat beef as I don't do chicken. -- Matador (hoping she will go dutch) Mirta -- Thanks for the dance. -- Matador (the pleasure was not mine) Thanato -- I salute you sir, well done. -- Stonewall (wanting to fix a fight now to get a win) Disco Queen -- A long and painful bloodbath for us both but you won, not me. -- Sandman (hates disco music now) Avonside -- My whole stable lost also. I did not want to feel left out so I tossed the fight. -- Sandblaster (hopes he is believed in his lie) Mountebank -- How did you last 41 minutes against me wearing more heavy armor than me but it was me that dropped exhausted? I sit all amazed. That was my longest fight ever. -- Sandpawn (proud to be ranked most least popular fighter) It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it. 27 May 2003 A note to everyone regarding manager names and manager lists -- If you're running a team incognito, all you have to do is let me know and I won't put your name on any manager lists. It has seemed though, that more people want their names listed, even if they do not announce themselves, than the other way around. Also, I do maintain the list more or less by hand and errors do creep in. Such an epic demands a sequel. Therefore, Master Darque and Jack Wolfspider are pleased to announce the return of the Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse. Where? Stormcrowe DM 45 (slow). When? The Slaughterhouse returns on Turn 207, due August 19. How can you get into the action? Bring a team (one per entrant please) to arena 45 and announce your intention to join the contest in the Personals. Rules: This time around the rules are very simple. Each warrior win against a higher rated opponent (one or more points higher in the ratings) brings you 10 points, against even rated opponent 7 points, lower rated 5 points. Wins against NPCs or by a warrior who downchallenges are worth 0 points. Points are doubled for kills. All warriors in the arena whether participating in the Slaughterhouse or not are fair game. Points are totaled weekly, and the contestant whose team has racked up the most points at the end of 10 turns is declared Slaughterhouse Champion. Prizes: To be announced; we're still talking with RSI about it. Figure it will be something pretty good. But hey, who needs prizes when the honor of being Slaughterhouse Champion awaits! More info: Master Darque, MasterDarqueDM@aol.com, or Jack Wolfspider, russtulp@aol.com. Or diplo Darque Forces (428) or Dynastic (433) in Arena 45.
