Not Talahya:

The gladiators shifted automatically to take up what each considered good
defensive stance. Fizban noted wryly that the ability to support each other in
defense or offense did not appear to be a dominating factor. No doubt Sheila
Greywand had reasons for the type of training she had ordained, each man trained to
be a solitary hero, but he would have preferred to see more teamwork. He sighed
again. Well, she doubtless had her reasons. For himself, he picked a position where
he had a clear field in the direction Rogan was facing and rummaged through his store
of spells for those which would be most useful in a totally unknown situation.
The fog, turned to a golden mist by the sunlight, thinned slowly. Slowly enough
that he would have expected the approaching person to be visible by now. Unless
Rogan had been mistaken, which seemed unlikely. True, he, Fizban, could not hear
anyone approaching, but unfortunately he had noticed a slight deterioration in his
hearing. Getting old was such a nuisance. Very clever of Lady Sheila to have
granted the gladiators agelessness for so long as they remained in her service.
Immortality without agelessness was a cruel jest, but agelessness granted at the
height of one's physical powers was...tempting. Few would refuse it, and the price
seemed so low, merely take an oath to serve her in defense of Alastari.... The oath
had magical overtones, of course, and once given could NOT be ignored. And the
oftener he came to the Isle, associated with Lord Protectors, the more certain Fizban
became that there was a hook somewhere in that tasty bait. Well, that wasn't today's
problem.
The mist farther along the flagstone path swirled and parted. The figure
approaching was approximately human in shape and size, but there had been, the old
wizard thought, reptiles in its ancestry rather than mammals. It was scaled and had
a crest of quills. It stopped and looked at them warily, but without overt
hostility.
"Greetings," Scarlatti said briskly. "We have come from a great distance, and
by accident. Can you tell us where we are?"
The creature uttered a musical trill, then said, in passable Isle cant, "You
have come to the Thallian Hub. Where did you expect to be?"
"We did not expect to have moved at all," Moonjumper answered ruefully. "We
were on the Isle of the Eye, at the city of Talahya."
"It is passing strange," the lizard man said, "but strange things are quite
normal here in Thallia. It is perhaps best that you should speak with the wizards of
the College. If you would have the goodness to come with me?" He gestured towards
the path behind himself and the minutely scaled skin of his forehead twitched,
perhaps the equivalent of a human raising eyebrows in question. "My name, by the
way, is--" he whistled something. "I believe you do not have the type of mouth
needed to speak that, however, and others of your kind might say...Thristle." He
moved along the path in the direction he'd come from, apparently trusting them to
follow and not concerned at having armed humans--and an elf--at his back. It was
only when the lizard man had turned his back that Fizban realized Thristle was armed
with a sword, as well.
Scarlatti hurried to catch up and walk beside their guide. "What do you do here
in Thallia?" he asked.
"Many things are done by different people here," Thristle said. "Thallia is a
Hub, after all. I myself am a gladiator, I fight on a team of netmen." He made a
deep humming sound. "It is not a career my clan would approve, but one does as one
must, and after the battle of Sigarvle was so disastrously lost...." He gave a
surprisingly human shrug. "Those of us who survived were so deeply dishonored by the
situation that we had few options. At least this gladiating allows us to pay our
way, and we remain together as a team, honing our skills for the chance that we all
await wherein we shall retrieve our honor and be able to return to our home,
beautiful Trisnath. What has been your career in the place from which you came?" the
lizard man asked. "What are your skills? For to live on Thallia is not a small
thing, and you will need to find employment at once."
"We're gladiators, too," Scarlatti said. "All but old Fizban there, and he's a
manager."
"Ah, that is bad luck! You are too few to make an effective team, and the best
you can hope for is to be taken on as standbys for the established teams. What are
your specialties? The phalanx teams are always looking for extra men, and I have
heard that the Blue faction chariots are--"
"We are accustomed to fighting one-on-one," Carris Fallstar snapped from
Thristle's other side.
Thristle's forehead twitched again. "Single combat? There is a market for
that, but as unknown challengers you would be likely to get only the worst matches."
He shook his head, his crest of quills rustling. "A hard life, and not even a friend
at your side in the worst of it. I do not envy you that!"
"We would rather simply return to our Talahya," Fizban said.
"And so I would suppose, as I would rather return to Trisnath. But even if you
have no stain of dishonor to wipe out, as I and my companions have, how will you pay
the wizards to accomplish it? The wizards of the College never act for free."
Before anyone could respond to this, Rogan said quietly, "Someone coming up
behind us, fast. A group--at least six, maybe seven. They're wearing mail."
Thristle darted a glance over his shoulder and his hand went immediately to his
sword. "The Ardaunar!" he wailed, turning and drawing. "Though you are not of my
company, I beg you not to flee. The Ardaunar always pursue that which flees!"

                                 THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard

Thanks to Fengar for tuning me up to the 100 win mark, but that brings up a
dilemma. Crip's normal policy is to retire warriors once they hit 100 wins, or get
to Primus/Gateway. However, I am only his second warrior to get to 100 wins before
getting into Primus/Gateway, and unlike the previous centurion, I seem to have talent
above and beyond what my raw numbers would suggest. What this means, is that for
now, I will continue to fight, but retirement could be lurking around the corner.

                             REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER

Another month gone, and the harvest time upon us, not that anything much gets
harvested here on the Isle. Well, not CROPS, anyway. I do hear--we spy reporters
collect more than fight information in the office, you know--that in some places, a
certain amount of, um, heat and acrimony is accumulating. You don't want anything
like that, do you? If you do, well, a spy reporter must be adaptable, but it seems
to me that it must be very uncomfortable around all that heat and acrimony. Of
course, I'm just back from vacation, and nothing about this job appeals strongly at
the moment. Especially heat and acrimony. Oh, well, on to the regular stuff.
Dark Sidhe was avoided by Royal Flush. Are there any Light Sidhe around?
Sandman was making idle boasts and ended up getting the most challenges. Is
this an honor or something less friendly?
We had forty fights, of which twenty-one were challenge matches. Two standbys
fought. The longest fight was eighteen minutes, and I'd give them a chocolate
turtle, but it melted. Too much heat and acrimony, perhaps. Nobody appears to have
died, which is good. They tell me that dying is no fun, and being resurrected is
almost worse.

     The fights--
TURBINE (28-1511) (11-6-2,41) of THE RED REAVERS fought NORM PETERSON (39-2745)
(38-66-0,34) of DRINKING BUDDIES. TURBINE devastated NORM PETERSON in a 1 minute
mismatched match. We keep Norm around to warm up the new arrivals. It's a dirty
job, but somebody's got to do it.
SABRETOOTH (54-2269) (19-11-2,53) of RUNNING AMOK fought FEATHER (54-1742) (15-
12-2,56) of THE WHITE COMPANY. SABRETOOTH was viciously subdued by FEATHER in a
crowd pleasing 1 minute gory duel. So... does this mean that rather than the tiger
having a feather in his cap, the white one has a tigerskin rug? I'm not sure I like
this "trophy" business. It could get gruesome quickly.
AB DESTINED 4 THE DA (65-1154) (13-4-2,87) of PAUL'Z PHARTZ fought LEVITICUS
(54-1687) (15-13-2,73) of THE WHITE COMPANY. AB DESTINED 4 THE DA bested LEVITICUS
in a 2 minute match. What children we seem to have here in the lower ranks. If
they've got twenty fights, it's just barely. Someone--an older warrior, perhaps--
needs to tell them that there's more to life than fighting in the arena. Really.
EVE (72-4596) (10-2-0,54) of DARQUE FORCES fought EGOTISTIC DUKE (28-2779) (18-
5-1,84) of ABYSMAL BEHAVIORS. EVE overpowered EGOTISTIC DUKE in an action packed 1
minute uneven battle. This is, I take it, a darque Eve. Scary image. And a lot
more experienced, I would guess, than she looks like on the surface. I curiously
await the Duke's reaction to this event.
     WRITER'S (79-1069) (27-53-1,45) of BLOCKS fought DANNIA TYL SIO (52-3393) (29-
18-1,84) of SAND DANCERS. WRITER'S demolished DANNIA TYL SIO in an exciting 1 minute
uneven competition. Ah, this may explain some things. Or not, of course, but it
sure looks significant to ME. So listen, everybody, we do NOT want Writer's Block to
win. Well, I don't. I don't know about you others. But I fear this may have some
significant connection with the dearth of spotlights at the moment.
     FOGGY (72-4595) (11-1-2,100) of DARQUE FORCES fought 300 (78-2346) (16-11-0,47)
of PBA. FOGGY overpowered 300 in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided duel. Foggy
bid three-oh-one, and the warrior from PBA couldn't meet that raise. Such is life.
Or at least duelling.
BREADSTICKS (14-3772) (21-8-0,100) of PISSED PIZZA GUYS fought *WINTER* (65-
3644) (23-19-1,74) of ANCIENT KNIGHTS. BREADSTICKS was demolished by *WINTER* in a 1
minute one-sided duel. I like breadsticks, up to a point, but pita breads are
better. At least, that's my own reaction. Breadsticks just don't make it with the
lebni. Of course, someone as ancient as Winter may feel that pitas and lebni are too
new-fangled.
DOLLFACE (39-2372) (53-74-1,118) of DRINKING BUDDIES fought STONEWALL (11-3900)
(46-51-2,149) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. DOLLFACE luckily beat STONEWALL in a unpopular 18
minute match. And what, may I ask, did luck have to do with this? At eighteen
minutes, it was stamina (doubtless enhanced by drinking bouts with Norm Peterson)
that won the day. Okay, it wasn't a whole day, but it sure FELT like it.
KYRA (51-3774) (40-36-1,139) of SAND DANCERS fought TYRE (31-3713) (27-16-0,120)
of DARQUE FORCES. KYRA demolished TYRE in an action packed 1 minute gory one-sided
struggle. This appears to have been inevitable, but was it wise? Should a warrior
engaged in an adventure suffer defeat, with the likely effect of encountering
adversity? True, it builds character, but have we got the zoning permit for building
character here?
SANDPAWN (11-4169) (40-21-1,146) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought EGAN FORN (39-3295)
(24-25-0,97) of THE MIDDLE WAY. SANDPAWN vanquished EGAN FORN in an exciting 5
minute mismatched fight. Five minutes? Was Egan that tough, Sandpawn? Granted that
his teammate Gabria has demonstrated that these Middle Way types lose with skill and
enthusiasm, we do LIKE to give 'em a win at the beginning, just to keep them coming
back.
SIR PLUS (10-4316) (26-21-1,144) of SIR AGLIO fought JOYCE (25-4387) (25-14-
0,146) of HAREM. SIR PLUS overpowered JOYCE in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided
fray. This one seems... right. Exactly what one would EXPECT to happen when a
warrior from the Sir Aglio encounters a warrioress from the Harem.
TEMPUS (31-538) (31-26-0,176) of THE STORMGUARDS fought DUNEDIN (14-3703) (27-
30-0,158) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. TEMPUS was savagely defeated by DUNEDIN in an
exciting 3 minute brutal fight. Ah, Dunedin, working on a winning record here, are
you? Good luck to you, but don't count on easy, well, okay, savage and brutal, wins
every time. Challenge. And keep up those stretching exercises, they seem to be
working: you looked a quarter of an inch taller out there today.
     MONKEY BUSINESS (25-4040) (26-15-0,162) of PRIMATES-R-US fought MOUNTEBANK (4-
2083) (43-18-0,122) of CARNIVAL. MONKEY BUSINESS viciously subdued MOUNTEBANK in an
exciting 2 minute brutal fight. Exciting doesn't begin to describe this match. I
especially liked the bit where Monkey tickled Mountebank behind the ear with his
tail, then turned his lips inside out, slapped Mountebank's sleeve, and three aces
fell out. Amazing.
WHEEL OF FORTUNE (25-2529) (42-33-2,180) of DUELING FOR DOLLARS fought TASHIA
(11-2740) (25-30-1,164) of DEADLY DE-PARTED. WHEEL OF FORTUNE was overpowered by
TASHIA in a 1 minute one-sided fight. The Wheel is flat today. Definitely flat.
KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (28-12-1,187) of ROYAL FLUSH fought SIR LY (10-4116)
(37-26-0,170) of SIR AGLIO. KING UVDAHELL handily defeated SIR LY in an action
packed 1 minute mismatched bout. A smile will get you farther than a scowl, Sir Ly.
Remember that.
BEERVAHNA (60-4292) (28-29-3,190) of INGRATE WHITE NORTH fought FENGAR II (20-
61) (101-70-1,207) of OVERLORDS. BEERVAHNA savagely defeated FENGAR II in an action
packed 2 minute gory duel. It wasn't the beer but the snow--the raging blizzard out
of the White North--that got to Fengar. You just can't argue with a blizzard.
SITS ON HIS DUFF (73-1810) (35-17-3,210) of THINGS GEORGE DOES fought CLOTTO
(106-25) (0-0-0,181) of Confused Fans. SITS ON HIS DUFF vanquished CLOTTO in an
exciting 3 minute gruesome one-sided fight. And now Clotto is REALLY confused.
Although why it took Sits three minutes to achieve this, I cannot imagine.
     F.O.A.D. (73-442) (29-11-2,215) of ALPHABET SOUP fought GOJIRO (106-31) (0-0-
0,220) of Confused Fans. F.O.A.D. overpowered GOJIRO in an exciting 1 minute gory
uneven fight. "Fought On A Dare"? Gojiro is very upset, because, he says, this
defeat will interfere with his day job as a knee-breaker for the Carlos the Bookie.
He feels his credibility in the position has been compromised. Maybe you could give
him a hand, F.?
     AULIC (25-3944) (35-25-0,260) of A UNIT fought KING FORADAY (47-3762) (38-36-
4,208) of ROYAL FLUSH. AULIC viciously subdued KING FORADAY in a popular 3 minute
brutal contest. In our last random match, King discovers that this was not HIS day.
Sometimes this happens.

And the challenge matches, with no opinions expressed on my part (I don't do
"heat and acrimony") as to the justice of up, down, or sideways.
DEBBIE DAHMER (45-3579) (19-3-1,62) of MORDRED'S MADMEN challenged MATADOR (11-
4139) (35-31-2,86) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. Up 24. DEBBIE DAHMER was vanquished by
MATADOR in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge match. This is the sort of thing that
happens. I hope Matador had his "Teacher" hat on.
NIBENAY (71-3380) (21-18-1,58) of DARQUE FORCES challenged MIRTA (51-4033) (38-
27-1,59) of SAND DANCERS. Up 1. NIBENAY was devastated by MIRTA in a 1 minute one-
sided Challenge bout. Oops! It would appear that this is one Sand Dancer determined
to retain her winning record. But keep after her, Nib.
DROSS (31-4305) (16-12-2,68) of SOLIPSISM II challenged GABRIA HAND (39-3294)
(26-23-1,82) of THE MIDDLE WAY. Up 14. DROSS defeated GABRIA HAND in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute Challenge conflict. Gabria does the losing bit rather well, don't
you think? Lots of experience.
PINE (78-2350) (18-3-1,58) of TREE PEOPLE challenged SIR YDER (31-4353) (18-7-
0,61) of WILLBENDERS. Up 3. PINE overpowered SIR YDER in a 1 minute one-sided
Challenge bout. Pines can be tough trees.
URSULA (45-3713) (22-14-1,100) of DARQUE FORCES challenged CARLA (39-2428) (57-
67-1,114) of DRINKING BUDDIES. Up 14. URSULA was savagely defeated by CARLA in a 2
minute brutal Challenge bout. Don't take that savagery to heart, Ursula, Carla's
always been a nasty little Elf. You know how they are. Nobody, not even an Orc, is
nastier than a nasty Elf.
GERTRUDE (44-2582) (21-8-0,139) of DARQUE FORCES challenged JUAN (41-2304) (22-
13-0,152) of DREAM TEAMS. Up 13. GERTRUDE overpowered JUAN in a crowd pleasing 1
minute mismatched Challenge brawl. It would appear that the Darque ladies are in
ferociously good form today! More or less. At least they're issuing challenges.
BELGOROTH (50-3175) (26-26-0,124) of DARK SIDHE challenged BALCLUTHA (14-3169)
(23-29-1,128) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Up 4, in a battle of the Bs. BELGOROTH bested
BALCLUTHA in an action packed 2 minute Challenge duel. I really think we need some
light sidhe here, to balance things, and maybe some Otago lowlanders, for that
matter.
DAIRY QUEEN (47-2685) (56-34-2,172) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SANDBLASTER (11-
3899) (48-49-3,177) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. Up 5. DAIRY QUEEN viciously subdued
SANDBLASTER in an action packed 3 minute Challenge fight. You can understand her
heat, sand in the ice cream is not a nice thing. Scratches the teeth, for one.
DISCO QUEEN (47-1992) (30-11-1,153) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SNOOKUMS (82-610)
(33-32-0,153) of A UNIT XI. Straight across. DISCO QUEEN was savagely defeated by
SNOOKUMS in a popular 6 minute Challenge brawl. And was that Snookums I saw last
night after the fights (this is the day after, you see), wearing the glittering
crown?
     BUTCH (70-6657) (30-22-2,166) of A UNIT challenged HANNYA (73-4350) (23-4-1,170)
of BLOOD LUST. Up 4. BUTCH devastated HANNYA in an exciting 3 minute mismatched
Challenge conflict. The effect of experience is often devastating. As many
promising gladiators have learned to their cost. Or costs, since I would assume that
each has a SEPARATE cost.
OUR LADY PEACE (79-1191) (23-6-2,161) of CHAPEL ROCK challenged AVONSIDE (13-
3927) (30-34-1,168) of KIWI CONNECTION. Up 7. OUR LADY PEACE overpowered AVONSIDE
in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge match. Our Lady has now spread herself all over
the bonny banks and braes, and generally made herself at home. And what else can you
expect, when Avonside is hampered by being from a defunct arena?
FIGHTER ACE (47-1189) (49-38-6,182) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SCUM #1 (50-2743)
(43-49-0,182) of DARK SIDHE. Straight across. FIGHTER ACE savagely defeated SCUM #1
in an action packed 8 minute Challenge match. Since the fight ran eight minutes, I
would assume there was definitely some scumming involved, "action-packed" or no. But
who was scumming whom?
SIDON (31-3712) (29-19-2,201) of DARQUE FORCES challenged SNOOPER (1-5154) (30-
17-3,222) of MIKE'S MISFITS. Up 21. SIDON was overpowered by SNOOPER in a popular 1
minute uneven Challenge duel. Another adventuring warrior meets adversity! It
should be interesting to see how the next episode of their adventure plays out.
JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (79-57-2,200) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged ALYSSA (82-656)
(31-30-0,201) of A UNIT XII. Up 1. JACK VALTRAEDS viciously subdued ALYSSA in an
action packed 3 minute Challenge duel. Vicious subdual? That doesn't sound
friendly. But then, who said they had to be friendly? They probably don't even know
each other outside the arena.
TEN COMMANDMENTS (47-3843) (36-29-0,186) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SANDMAN (11-
3923) (49-49-2,197) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. Up 11. TEN COMMANDMENTS was viciously
subdued by SANDMAN in a 3 minute Challenge competition. And just how many
commandments did Sandman break in that fight? I've got a side-bet on it. It must
have been more than one, because when I saw Ten last night, he was in splints (note
plural). I've never seen a splinted commandment before.
NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (67-24-0,199) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged CRUMBSNATCHER
(72-1842) (45-27-1,202) of ONE GOOD DUDE. Up 3. NEWT GINGRICH was defeated by
CRUMBSNATCHER in an exciting 2 minute Challenge struggle. You were WARNED, Newt!
Never eat crackers while wearing full armor, or you'll get it full of crumbs. And
then the 'Snatcher comes along....
JUNINHO (7-4001) (21-12-1,194) of IMPORTED FOOTBALLERS challenged AVAUNT (10-
4170) (40-28-2,198) of A UNIT. Up 4. JUNINHO savagely defeated AVAUNT in a crowd
pleasing 7 minute Challenge competition. Although we haven't had any serious
challenges to today's eighteen-minute longest fight, there've been a cluster of
runners up around seven, eight, and nine minutes this time. Does this signal the end
of summer, when everybody figures it's cool enough to take a little longer?
Inquiring minds want to know.
GROLSCH (21-5029) (31-3-4,243) of REAL BEER challenged ATONEMENT (82-761) (40-
25-0,285) of A UNIT XV. Up 42. GROLSCH was bested by ATONEMENT in a popular 3
minute Challenge fight. Next time, try a little humility and atonement of your own,
Grolsch. It might help. Then again, it might not. These moral issues are tricky.
PRINCE APPLE (47-325) (95-69-2,226) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged LONALILTA (50-
2806) (48-39-2,226) of DARK SIDHE. Straight across. PRINCE APPLE defeated LONALILTA
in a crowd pleasing 3 minute Challenge duel. I do hope the Prince is a Jonathan.
Definitely a superior apple.
KALANDRA (50-2443) (51-55-3,211) of DARK SIDHE challenged KITALA THE BOLD (78-
875) (78-98-2,212) of SAND DANCERS. Up 1. KALANDRA bested KITALA THE BOLD in a
crowd pleasing 2 minute Challenge fight. This is not getting Kitala closer to the
winning record she craves, so watch out for her if you meet her around town in the
next few weeks. I believe she's getting rather testy.
Rather interestingly, we had no down-challenges at all this time. A few
straight across, but none down so much as a single point. You'd think we were in
Andorak, except, of course, for the lack of heat and acrimony.
And for the title: FATHER OF ALL MUNS (20-2306) (30-37-1,226) of THE FAMILY
TREE challenged WILLIE MAKIT (73-514) (100-36-2,442) of MISTAKEN IDENTITY. Up lots.
Hmm, about 216 or so. I won't swear to my math. FATHER OF ALL MUNS was viciously
subdued by WILLIE MAKIT in a 3 minute battle. And as we all have seen once again,
Willie deserves that ranking and the throne. But Father of All Muns didn't make it
easy for him. Good work, both of you.

                               PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE

All -- Excuse my odd behavior. I had just gotten word that my home arena in DM 11
Aruak City is under attack. Seems a massive wave attack on our way of life is going
on. What to do, I ask myself? Do I join the melee or do I show my support here?
After a lot of thought I decided to go back to training my warriors and wait for the
offenders to come here. At which time I will deal with them. Deal with them most
harshly, if I may say so. -- AK47

Stonewall -- It is too bad we cannot be allowed to show up in Aruak City as newcomers
and start putting low-lifes to the spear. -- Sandblaster

AK47 -- Perhaps we have warriors here in Crysalis arena that hold hate toward Aruak
City and the Andorian Knights. The Aruak City war does not need be fought in there
only. -- Sandman

Andorian Knights stable -- I agree and I am pissed off. Begin asking the other
stables here in secret to find out who will join our cause and who is against us.
Report back to me your findings and we will strike. -- AK47

Gabria -- Seems to be a mistake. That was my message to you. Not CFH's. What DOES
a high class girl, like you, see in a Bum like Art? -- Dross
P.S. If it is the same Art, you know he's a fascist don't you? Don't ask him to dry
the dishes or take out the trash!

GO CARTEL, GO! -- CFH

Father of All Muns -- Let's try again this time both of us unarmed. -- Tattoo

Dollface -- Regret that I had to prove the mettle of my metal as well as the metal of
my mettle. However it is not for nothing that I've been declared T.P. stylemaster
and on the verge of taking the AB style master title. -- Mountebank, and some say the
real Tower Guardian

Willie Makit -- Well fought, Tower Guardian. Congrats on your 100th win also. --
Fengar II

F.O.A.D. -- I understand wanting to see me back in action. However, as a basher with
favs of MO/VL and medium shield, my time on the sands are done. I am registered in
Home Guard and doubt if I will duel again, though, as you can see in the Chimlevtal
newsletter, I am keeping busy on Council business. -- Lord Protector Utu of The
Stormguards

Crip -- The only warrior on the Sir Aglio squad I can think of that doesn't go by Sir
is Sultan. He ran as a Freshman at the last F2F. But if you'd rather, you may call
him Sir. Him, not me. -- Sultan, the manager

Avonside -- I really don't think that's right that you should have been able to beat
me to the punch. It's the only chance I've got. -- Sir Plus

Willie Makit -- Don't you have bigger better places to be? The Boss thinks 100 wins
= Primus bound. 100 losses = Home Guard. -- Kalandra

King Foraday -- #2 was Ugly went 6-0 then DA. #3 is Yaiwe currently 2-0 #17. How
much garbage would you have heaped on the Boss? The more the better I suppose. --
Scum #1

Foggy -- Darn, I am definitely doing something wrong here. Gotta work on that. --
Dannia tyl Sio

Sandblaster -- (curled lip of mild scorn) I used to skin bigger cats than you and
sell the furs. -- Kitala the Bold and Dangerous

Livia -- Sandblaster did NOT "hold" me. I don't permit that kind of liberties. --
Kitala
P.S. Especially from Andorians.

Juan -- More like a nightmare than a dream. -- Kyra

Gadget -- I'd think your "gadget" would work better, move more freely and all, if
you'd OIL it. Nobody told me I'd be out there chipping rust. -- Mirta

Thermodynamics -- I suppose it's my close association with Arsonist Art that gave me
the edge there. And I'm certainly grateful for it. I don't remember if I've died
three times, or only two, since graduating, but that is ENOUGH. -- Gabria Hand

Nibenay -- Good luck to you, then. Managers can be unaccountable, especially when of
the darque persuasion. -- Dannia tyl Sio

Mr. Coffeee -- If my warriors can't win in North Fork, that's their problem, not
yours! You have to do the best you can, and so do they. Too bad they have such a
limited interpretation of "best," isn't it? -- Jorja

CFH -- One has no control over the inclinations of the heart, sir. And I would not
call Art "low class." (At least, not if I didn't want him to burn down my house....)
-- Gabria Hand

Citizens of Ghea (only the ignorant fail to note Lirith Kai is not in Alastari),
no new day is rising, but the sun is setting on just another beautiful evening.
While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City.
Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all
gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they
had masks, who cares.
Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in
Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by
those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the
same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many
years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by
pests.
Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own
little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except
to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you
choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs.
Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed.
Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents
will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target
those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home.
So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous
Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and
bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.

An Announcement Concerning the Brotherhood of the Blade Alliance:
I have chosen to withdraw my membership from the Brotherhood of the Blade
alliance. The years I have spent in the alliance have been the best of my DM career.
I leave the alliance with many great friends and will always remain close to my
former brethren.
The Brotherhood of the Blade will not skip a beat without my membership. It
remains in very capable hands and its roster is among the strongest in the game.
With the return on some of its founding members to DM, I know the BOB will continue
to grow in strength and prestige in the years to come. -- The Sandman

                                FACE-TO-FACE XXXII

Our next Winter Face-to-Face will be held on Martin Luther King weekend, Friday
through Sunday, 16-18 January 2004, at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona (4400 S
Rural Rd). Room rates are $119.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which includes breakfast.
The rooms are blocked. The reservations number is 480-897-7444; tell them you're with
the "Reality Simulations Face to Face Convention" block. Our room block will be
released in mid-December, so please make sure you reserve your room before then.
There is a free shuttle to the airport, as well as free parking. The hotel is
located down the freeway in Tempe. All rooms have high speed internet (for an extra
charge). There is a fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool, and of course a bar and
restaurant inside the hotel. And there's Denny's right across the street. Look for
transportation info in the tournament information sheet.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
November/early December.
If you haven't been to a Face-to-Face before, you're overdue. If you have,
you'll be back. Don't miss this one, it'll be a blast! See you there!
