THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard
I raise my goblet and salute you, mighty Lord Protectors and managers of
Crysalis! Well met! I want to acknowledge Dunedin who met me on the sands for the
title in a bare-handed match. Well fought indeed, Dunedin. He elbowed and punched
me good in round one. It reminded me of some old brawls in the mead halls of the
north. Once I got my bearings, it became a total slug-fest, both of us kicking the
snot out of each other! Just the way I like it! I finally took control in round 4
and finished off the young warrior. The fans were going wild and Dunedin earned my
respect.
It was great to see 156 warriors take the sands last turn. For all who turned
out for the "Crysalis Craziness" and duked it out unarmed, I thank and salute you.
Sure made for an interesting and historic turn! For those who fought with weapons
and made challenges, I give you the big raspberry!
I think Sultan's idea of trying this every 10 turns is great! So how about it?
What do you think, should we try to make a tradition in glorious Crysalis and throw
out the challenge every 10 turns? Anyone want to give it a shot on turn #160??
Speak up, Lords and Ladies.
Now I must return to defend my title. I see Crip has just a few warriors in the
Grand Challenger Champions...just how many Lord Protectors do you have here? As much
as I enjoy tacking a loss on you Cripster, I have other challenges this day.
I once again raise my goblet, and wish you a great New Year. Tal and OMNE JUS
STAT IN ARMIS.
Lord Protector Fengar II
Chief Tower Guard
The Council of Lords
REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Why does the Unknown Spymaster have a bag over his head? Because he has a face
not even a mother could love. I know, I asked her.
In a well-regulated world, there would be no winter. Or very little. Have you
ever tried sharpening a quill when you're numb with cold? You could cut off three
fingers and not realize it till you'd got ink all over your report. Unsatisfactory,
that.
I presume everybody who participated in the bare-knuckle brawl here last month
has found their swords, hammers, etc and gone back to spilling blood right and left?
If not, bare-hand your manager a little. Don't let them get away with it.
The Stormbringers were avoided by The Stormguards. Sounds like collusion.
Juan may, I can't say for sure, have gotten the most challenges.
Apparently nobody died. Or maybe the stewards forgot to note it. But I will
assume that nobody died. The stewards are asses, but not TOTAL asses.
We are back down to thirty-two fights and a flock of echoes here, although there
are arena in worse condition, thank the gods. Twelve fights were the result of
challenges.
And the mimes are out in force. Beware!
HOFFA WITH HAIR (59-2297) (18-2-0,78) of IMPROVED ILLUSION fought FEDIFENSOR
(59-379) (20-14-1,75) of DAMAGE INC. HOFFA WITH HAIR handily defeated FEDIFENSOR in
a 1 minute mismatched match. A home-town match. The illusion of Hoffa with hair is
not an improvement.
EGAN FORN (39-3295) (25-40-0,46) of THE MIDDLE WAY fought GALENA (28-3505) (18-
13-0,72) of BOXOROX. EGAN FORN was savagely defeated by GALENA in an exciting 2
minute gory bout. Stoned, in fact.
TAMMY FAYE (39-3520) (20-9-0,89) of WITLESS WONDERS fought SUBOTAI (31-4380)
(21-19-0,70) of THE STORMGUARDS. TAMMY FAYE overpowered SUBOTAI in a 2 minute one-
sided match. Is Tammy Faye truly witless? I wonder.
BINGE N PURGE (45-3567) (22-13-0,74) of EMETICS fought SIR PELLEAS (31-4352)
(21-19-1,80) of WILLBENDERS. BINGE N PURGE vanquished SIR PELLEAS in a 1 minute one-
sided fray. Very few digestions can stand up to such a regimen, bend their will how
they might.
RANDOM MATCHUP (96-1048) (13-8-3,88) of OVERRATED fought TOM SMITH DISEASE (50-
3400) (16-8-0,78) of STRANGE TUNES. RANDOM MATCHUP slimly won victory over TOM SMITH
DISEASE in a popular 3 minute bout. I sincerely hope that both these, ah, gladiators
are golems. Having a real person with a name like either would be disconcerting.
SUNFLASH (45-3474) (25-21-1,71) of NORTHERN LIGHTS fought NORM PETERSON (39-
2745) (43-77-0,63) of DRINKING BUDDIES. SUNFLASH was overcome by NORM PETERSON in a
crowd pleasing 4 minute bout. They tell me Norm was "wound up." I thought he looked
like a piece of clockwork.
300 (78-2346) (23-19-0,147) of PBA fought ZORRO, THE GAY BLADE (106-8) (0-0-
0,110) of the College of Mimes. 300 savagely defeated ZORRO, THE GAY BLADE in an
action packed 2 minute gory duel. And a good job, too. Those mimes need to be shown
who is what. Not that 300 sounds like much of a who.
FOGGY (72-4595) (12-2-2,107) of DARQUE FORCES fought KYRA (51-3774) (43-49-
1,136) of SAND DANCERS. FOGGY was subdued by KYRA in a 1 minute melee. With Kyra's
temper, burning off a little fog is a simple matter. And she isn't even red-headed.
GRINNON BEARIT (47-2955) (25-14-3,137) of THE BEAR'S PAW fought GERTRUDE (44-
2582) (22-9-0,144) of DARQUE FORCES. GRINNON BEARIT vanquished GERTRUDE in a 1
minute one-sided fight. But the real question here is, "Is Gertrude grinning?"
Inquiring minds (pesky nosp parkers that they are) want to know.
CARLA (39-2428) (62-78-2,158) of DRINKING BUDDIES fought LUMBERING WAIF (8-4346)
(20-13-0,134) of HAPLESS WAIF. CARLA was overpowered by LUMBERING WAIF in a popular
1 minute one-sided duel. It was... harrowing. The Waif stepped on her. Very messy.
TASHIA (11-2740) (31-40-1,162) of DEADLY DE-PARTED fought STONEWALL (11-3900)
(54-59-2,166) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. TASHIA was unbelievably bested by STONEWALL in an
exciting 3 minute gory bout. What is there in this that is not to believe? I saw
it. The arenamaster and the stewards saw it. The Commission recorded it. It
happened. Okay, the bookies, for some reason unknown to me, were upset, but so what?
Bookies should be upset on a regular basis.
TEMPUS (31-538) (39-36-0,182) of THE STORMGUARDS fought MIRTA (51-4033) (50-31-
1,152) of SAND DANCERS. TEMPUS lost to MIRTA in a 2 minute fray. It's probably her
bigger id number. Very potent, those bigger numbers.
HANNYA (73-4350) (31-12-1,201) of BLOOD LUST fought SPLIT (78-2347) (26-17-
0,152) of PBA. HANNYA viciously subdued SPLIT in a popular 2 minute gruesome
match....
Speaking of Splits, ours will happen at the end of this week, and by the time we
meet again here, some warriors will be gone to Primus. A wake will be held at... I
can't read the name of this bar. Well, just look for the biggest party and join in.
Even if it isn't the party in question, if everybody is drunk, they won't care.
KITALA THE BOLD (78-875) (87-105-2,189) of SAND DANCERS fought SIR YDER (31-
4353) (28-13-0,168) of WILLBENDERS. KITALA THE BOLD devastated SIR YDER in a popular
3 minute one-sided contest. Why is there a note beside this fight about "apple
sauce"? I hate it when the note-takers are cryptic.
SANDPAWN (11-4169) (52-25-1,194) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought PRINCE OF AR (31-
3625) (16-15-1,188) of THE STORMBRINGERS. SANDPAWN luckily beat PRINCE OF AR in a
popular 12 minute bloody match. No, really. What has luck got to do with any of
this? I thought skill was involved?
SANDBLASTER (11-3899) (55-58-3,196) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought STEE JANS (20-65)
(43-40-0,184) of OVERLORDS. SANDBLASTER overpowered STEE JANS in an exciting 1
minute one-sided bout. Not to mention that the sand of the arena floor was stirred
up and thrown about in a very annoying fashion. And the stewards say that repairing
the paint will take weeks unless we get some warm weather. We don't HAVE weeks,
Talahya is treading on our heels to use the facilities, and Primus is right behind
them, with Free Blades behind that... thank the gods that Darkholm has its own arena
out of town!
SIR LY (10-4116) (45-34-0,212) of SIR AGLIO fought EARTH ELEMENTAL (31-1245)
(34-23-0,191) of THE STORMGUARDS. SIR LY savagely defeated EARTH ELEMENTAL in a
crowd pleasing 3 minute bloody brawl. Scowling every moment, too.
SCUM #1 (50-2743) (53-54-0,250) of DARK SIDHE fought SNOOPER (1-5154) (43-20-
3,193) of MIKE'S MISFITS. SCUM #1 defeated SNOOPER in an action packed 5 minute
gruesome struggle. And this was NOT our longest fight. Interesting, that.
TALOS (31-2069) (56-27-0,220) of THE STORMGUARDS fought BELGOROTH (50-3175) (35-
32-1,188) of DARK SIDHE. TALOS was overcome by BELGOROTH in an action packed 2
minute fight. Don't ask me to explain this one. I just report, I don't explain.
SANDMAN (11-3923) (58-56-2,249) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought KRAC D'CHEVALIERS
(31-4345) (22-29-0,208) of THE STORMGUARDS. SANDMAN subdued KRAC D'CHEVALIERS in a
popular 5 minute bloody brawl. I don't explain what turns on the crowd, either.
Nobody can.
And the challenge matches:
BLANK (78-2374) (16-11-2,72) of TREE PEOPLE challenged LAPHROAIG (31-4529) (21-
15-0,90) of SINGLE MALTS. Up 18. BLANK was handily defeated by LAPHROAIG in a 1
minute one-sided Challenge contest. That's the advantage of being drunk during the
fight, it doesn't matter if your opponent is invisible. You just keep hitting out
blindly, and sooner or later, soemthing connects.
PINE (78-2350) (23-13-1,74) of TREE PEOPLE challenged OBAN (31-4530) (16-19-
1,76) of SINGLE MALTS. Up 2. PINE overpowered OBAN in an exciting 1 minute bloody
one-sided Challenge fight. A very tarry sort of pine, too. I could tell.
UNCAS (31-4189) (25-20-0,81) of THE STORMGUARDS challenged PIXIE BLIGHT (73-
4427) (19-18-0,99) of DARQUE FORCES VIII. Up 18. UNCAS was savagely defeated by
PIXIE BLIGHT in an exciting 2 minute Challenge fight. Does this mean that Uncas is a
blighted pixie? Gad, the very thought!
MAEGOLOS (50-3312) (24-20-1,68) of DARK SIDHE challenged SNOWFALL (45-3473) (29-
17-0,70) of NORTHERN LIGHTS. Up 2. MAEGOLOS vanquished SNOWFALL in a 1 minute
gruesome uneven Challenge fight. A good warm day will do that. No need for grue,
unless slush takes you that way.
SIR LANCELOT (72-4997) (15-16-2,65) of KNIGHTS TEMPLAR challenged RANCID WAIF
(8-4413) (19-13-0,92) of HAPLESS WAIF. Up 27. SIR LANCELOT was handily defeated by
RANCID WAIF in a 1 minute uneven Challenge melee. It was the smell that got him. It
nearly got me, and I was in the stands several yards away.
PROOKIE (78-2345) (24-16-1,98) of PBA challenged ZOOLANDER (39-3523) (20-9-
1,100) of WITLESS WONDERS. Up 2. PROOKIE devastated ZOOLANDER in a 1 minute one-
sided Challenge competition. I suppose, being witless, that Zoolander just stood
there and took the peanut butter without resistance? Not that it's easy to resist
peanut butter.
DEBBIE DAHMER (45-3579) (28-10-1,123) of MORDRED'S MADMEN challenged BEARNICE
(47-2847) (18-18-6,131) of THE BEAR'S PAW. Up 8. DEBBIE DAHMER overpowered BEARNICE
in a 2 minute one-sided Challenge struggle. This is madness, Debbie! What if
Bearnice's paw, which is to say, her sire, father, or progenitor, comes after you?
Because you have to realize we're talking a very serious sort of a bear here.
SINYAMEGIL (50-2952) (26-25-0,116) of DARK SIDHE challenged DANNIA TYL SIO (52-
3393) (38-25-1,134) of SAND DANCERS. Up 18. SINYAMEGIL was bested by DANNIA TYL SIO
in an action packed 2 minute Challenge brawl. Do you know, I can't think of a thing
to say about this one.
MATADOR (11-4139) (47-35-2,120) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS challenged DOLLFACE (39-
2372) (62-81-1,130) of DRINKING BUDDIES. Up 10. MATADOR slimly won victory over
DOLLFACE in a popular 5 minute brutal Challenge fight. And what nasty thing could we
say of a man who would beat up a doll-faced woman, eh? Nothing like as much
(considering that she was armed, too) as we can say of a crowd that would ENJOY such
a spectacle. I have often thought, well, once or twice, anyway, that this is a
brutal sport leading to a coarsening of the moral fibers. My fibers are as coarse as
rope by now.
R'SHANN (20-577) (55-45-3,190) of OVERLORDS challenged SIR PLUS (10-4316) (33-
30-1,190) of SIR AGLIO. Straight across. R'SHANN won victory over SIR PLUS in a 2
minute Challenge brawl. And if Sir Plus doesn't get his act together, he won't have
any surplus wins to keep his record in the black.
CRUSADER LORD (31-3946) (43-35-6,194) of THE STORMGUARDS challenged JUAN (41-
2304) (30-21-0,209) of DREAM TEAMS. Up 15. CRUSADER LORD was handily defeated by
JUAN in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge match. This is Juan-the-most-challenged. Why
is that? The most-challenged bit.
For the title: KALANDRA (50-2443) (64-57-3,297) of DARK SIDHE challenged FENGAR
II (20-61) (117-79-2,351) of OVERLORDS. Up 54. KALANDRA was devastated by FENGAR II
in a 2 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight. Good try, Kalandra, and
congratulations, Fengar II.

THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN
PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Icelord -- Goof on my part...I reported 4 DCs and only listed 3. The fourth was a
Title Fight on T144 between Earth Elemental and Dunedin. -- Baphomet
Icelord -- As a rule, I've no problem with DCing. I've a problem with felonious
justifying a feud to pump up my win/loss. It wasn't the principle. It was the
tactics and strategy utilized. -- Baphomet
Icelord -- Excellent idea for Crysalis Craziness. Kudos! -- Baphomet
Leeta -- I've had a team, Dog Soldiers, in Aruak City for about two years.
Unfortunately, AK47 says he won't come. So, it'll be a while before I do. Maybe....
-- Baphomet
Sultan -- Actually, I like that idea. Count me in! -- Baphomet
Abraxis -- Actually, it's short for what his girlfriend calls me! "Stud". --
Baphomet (remembering there's an Editor watching)
Zzzzzz.... What, are you trying to get away with something. For shame. -- Ed.
Polarius -- Welcome to Crysalis! Hope you'll be staying. -- Baphomet
The Council of Lords would like to salute and thank all the Lord Protectors and
managers who participated and supported "Crysalis Craziness" on turn #150! This was
an historic event in Duelmasters history. 156 warriors took the sands last turn and
I daresay most were unarmed. Who says the "golden days" are over? Not I. It is up
to us, the 19 managers here, to be creative, bold and willing to invigorate our great
gladiatorial game! Sultan suggested we try making the "Craziness" happen every 10
turns. I would be willing to support this. Anyone else up for a bare-handed brawl
again on turn #160? Let us salute Crysalis, The COL is buying this night. Here is
to 2005. -- The Icelord
Ketchum -- Some interesting unarmed contests with my guys. Lots of elbows, knees and
fists flying (as well as teeth--some kids in the front row made a fortune from the
tooth fairy!). Looked like a good old scrum at The Bash and Glug. What was up with
the announcer saying "uses this weapon in an unorthodox manner?" What did religion
have to do with it? ;) -- The Icelord
Seeing, for instance, a lunger fighting with empty hands was a religious
experience for many.
Dunedin -- Well fought. -- Chief Tower Guard Fengar II (holding ice-pack to black
eye)
Willie Makit -- Why did I have to get you? You had the style advantage AND fight
experience. You ruined my "craziness" party. -- Krac D'Chevaliers
Juan -- What is up with the armor and weapon? You didn't need it, bub. Since you
ruined my "craziness" party, I'm going to attempt to make you kill number 7. --
Crusader Lord
All -- I had some interesting fights last cycle. I only faced one opponent that was
armed, but I don't believe they were active the turn before, so they may not have
known about the Crysalis Craziness. -- Master Darque
P.S. I believe my best fight was Marilyn vs. Dr. Mountain Dew. It went the longest
and went back and forth a lot.
Icelord -- Kudos on the Crysalis Craziness! The fights were interesting reads, even
though I didn't have any ABs to experiment with in this arena. We'll participate in
the next one when everyone feels they are ready for another round of bare-knuckle
brawling. -- Master Darque
All -- Well, "Crysalis Craziness" seemed to be a major success, although my own
win/loss (16/19) wasn't so great. Yes, I ran 35 warriors and was again reminded why
33 of those were retired. I was a bit surprised that 10 of my 35 fights (nearly 30%)
were against warriors who had weapons/armor. But then I noticed that all of those
warriors were run by five managers. If we do "Crysalis Craziness" in a year or so,
perhaps those wishing to participate could agree to avoid those who obviously don't
care to join in. All in all, I thought that it was fun and thank the Iceman for
having initiated the idea. -- Sultan
300 -- Ouch! Open hand and unarmored against a weapon and armor is NOT my idea of a
fun time. And on a challenge, too, so you meant to do it. Did you miss the notices
in the newsletter that this was the Flying Fists Fun Fest? The no-weapons-no-armor
turn? Ouch! -- Kyra
The Spawn -- Since it was a random match between us, I will assume that your manager
just wasn't paying attention. But you've nothing to be proud of in that victory,
boy. -- Kitala the Bold and extremely irritated
Maggie Maggot -- I can't honestly say that was FUN, but it was more fun than my
teammates had. I salute you. -- Mirta
Kissyfur -- You can hardly be blamed for that loss, and I salute your willingness to
come out empty handed when you weren't trained for it. Best of luck with a sword if
you continue active. -- Dannia tyl Sio
P.S. Dinner?
Damn, talk about when drawing a standby is bad luck! Ouch. -- Egan Forn
Klepto -- Wow, a rock-solid punch! I didn't think I had it in me! Very good try on
your part, anyway. -- Snowfall
P.S. True, I've done my share of snowballs with rocks in the middle, but that is
somewhat different.
Mosgiel -- Rats, I didn't come out of that one looking good. You're a tiger! --
Sunflash
Our salute to those managers and warriors who dared to be unarmed this time. It was,
uh, different. Actually, not bad. Interesting to see two warriors, both "unsuited"
to the open hand, earling it out with their fists. -- Leeta/Nick/Jorja/Li Dan

All you alliance-type people, I'm trying (again!) to get my alliance listing correct
and up to date. Either send me a diplo (address it to The Saint) or send your
updates to me directly at Sue at solberg-mathews.com. As you may guess, replace the
at with @ and you're good to go (I do hate spammy mail and this will end up on the
web).
I have information on the following alliances: ADIO, Allied Axis, Armada,
Brotherhood of Justice, Brotherhood of the Blade, Cadre, CDC, Chaos, Inc., Circle of
Order, Company of Brothers, Consortium, Council of Lords, Couple Good Guys, Crimson
Vengeance, DOA, DOOMcorps, Enigmafia, Eurosquad, Fascist Federation, FONZ,
Frothingslosh Syndicate, GAPPDA, Homeland Alliance, IT Alliance, Jingoists, kLk,
Knights of the Covenant, LBA, League Arcane, Legion6, Living Essences, Lords and
Ladies of Darkness, Manic Union, Midnight Foundation, Minions of Diana, Monarchs of
Montezuma, NCA, NIMROD, R.A.G.E., Seventh Sons, The Firm, The French Connection,
Vendett@ United, and the Vendetta Cartel.
If you are a member of one of these alliances, let me know. If you are a member of
some other alliance that isn't listed, let me know. If you were at any point in your
past a part of one of these alliance but are now independent, also let me know.
Going inactive doesn't mean you get removed from this list; people are assumed to
still be in the same alliance when they return. Even having everyone in an alliance
go inactive doesn't change anything. If an alliance is officially disbanding, that's
another thing you have to let me know....
The Saint, keeper of lists
P.S. If you already responded to my online plea (and I replied), you can ignore
this.

Hammer 500-Hammer Run for the Roll Ups
Hosted by Hammer
Niytyole Island DM 33 has dwindled to the point where as of T-482 [duedate
November 3, 2004] there were only 2 active stables listed with 3 inactive stables in
a once thriving and lively regular arena.
During the past 40+ cycles Hammer has been hosting the Hammer Run for the Roll
Ups in DM 33.
Thus far only the Ripper and Slasher categories have produced winners to claim
the 5 New Team Roll Ups Prize for being the first declared Style Master of their
respective categories to graduate.
Every contending stable has gone inactive for one reason or another, including
CASINO HAMMERZ, over the past several months.
Now DM 33 faces the harsh reality that if RSI chooses to close any arenas due to
little or no interest, Niytyole Island could very well head the list of endangered
regular arenas!
In an effort to preserve his beloved island, Hammer is announcing the
continuation of the Hammer Run for the Roll Ups; combined with the Hammer 500 which
will conclude both contests on T-500 [duedate July 13, 2005] should DM 33 continue to
remain open in the coming months.
Attention Hammer Runners!
The Hammer Run is for 0 FE Basic Arena Warriors ONLY. Participants MUST Be
Declared in the P-ads On or Before their First DM 33 Basic Arena Fight to Qualify as
a Hammer Runner! Winners of Each Category will receive 5 New Team Roll Up Gift
Certificates mailed from RSI courtesy of Hammer! [On the condition that they
Graduate on or before T-500; see amended rules below!]
The following Style Master categories remain open with a listing of how many
declared contestants are still entered and their W/L recognition record at the time
of their disappearance from the Hammer Run competition:

STYLE MASTER CONTESTANTS WILL BE AWARDED TWO (2) GIFT CERTS AND ALL OTHER PRIZE
CATEGORIES WILL BE DECLARED NULL AND VOID BY HAMMER!!!!!!!!!
The purpose of this contest is to restore DM 33 to a lively and entertaining
arena!
Hammer is willing to foot the Prize bill in a last ditch effort to save Niytyole
Island from deletion if RSI and the Gladiatorial Commission decide that more arenas
need to be closed due to lack of participation and interest.
Should this effort fail to spare DM 33 from deletion, then Hammer is prepared to
transfer CASINO HAMMERZ to another arena if Niytyole Island is closed by RSI and the
Gladiatorial Commission.
