It was Novgorodny Vir, and I looked on his work and despaired of every making it
readable, so I guess I'll have to do this myself. He's Karnhorn, or Ferencian, or
something like that, and you know what THOSE people are like. Never by a second-hand
carriage from one!
So, let's take a look at the steward's notes here. Sir Ly got the most
challenges, six of them. What it is to be popular! If that's popularity. I have my
doubts.
Andorian Knights were avoided by Royal Flush. And why not? They had to avoid
somebody. Perhaps this is alphabetical order?
Twenty-nine fights, nine challenges, seven standbys out there fighting. Not
good. SEVEN standbys? And some of them fought twice! Why don't some of YOU fight
twice, eh? [Note that the standbys don't read this, so I can talk about them any way
I want. Those of the standbys who are Rirorni, in fact, are illiterate, and they
don't realize how lucky they are. Can't read the bills.] No deaths. Too bad. A
death on the sands really livens things up. It makes people appreciate NOT being
dead.
So, let's see what we've got today.

(106-3) (0-0-0,30) of the College of Mimes. BIG BLOATED BEN overpowered RIRORNI
SOLDIER in an exciting 1 minute bloody uneven bout. Do we WANT somebody with that
image here? What if people look at him and get a strange idea of the Crysaline
character? Um, a stranger idea, I hear that some already think us strange. Thirteen
fight days a year? They say we're bad luck. A lot they know!
HUNGRY BONES (31-4720) (15-8-1,54) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS fought RIRORNI SOLDIER
(106-3) (0-0-0,30) of the College of Mimes. HUNGRY BONES overpowered RIRORNI SOLDIER
in a 1 minute one-sided fight. Hmm, glancing through the lists here, I find that
NINE of our fights involve orcs! Is this a sign? Are we being invaded by these pig-
toothed, muscle-bound jocks? They're as bad as the Rirorni!
SENATOR SEDALIA (30-4245) (19-7-0,79) of LENPROS fought 98 POUND WEAKLING (31-
4055) (14-3-1,46) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS. SENATOR SEDALIA was viciously subdued by 98
POUND WEAKLING in a 8 minute fight. Forget political correctness, senator! Forget
filibustering! Smite the orc!
THORN MOUSE (8-3590) (15-3-1,49) of BLACKTHORN ORCS fought SNOWFALL (45-3473)
(33-24-0,74) of NORTHERN LIGHTS. THORN MOUSE was savagely defeated by SNOWFALL in a
popular 2 minute gruesome fight. I am deeply suspicious of any orc that calls itself
"Mouse" and pretends to be mild and harmless. As if!
BLUE BLAZES (11-6280) (16-6-0,54) of COLORIFIC fought MACIOBELLY (31-4392) (21-
6-3,72) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS. BLUE BLAZES was unbelievably bested by MACIOBELLY in a
2 minute duel. And does this move Maciobelly a step closer to "offical" orcdom?
Inquiring minds shudder to think.
HOLLAN INNIS (50-3388) (19-22-0,64) of MIDDLE WAY 6 fought NI THE LESSER (8-
3453) (15-8-2,55) of BLACKTHORN ORCS. HOLLAN INNIS overpowered NI THE LESSER in a 1
minute one-sided fray. Is, or is not, Innis now prepared to take on Ni the Greater?
MELTDOWN (8-4353) (21-11-0,64) of X-FORCE fought BEER BELLY BOB (31-4056) (19-9-
0,66) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS. MELTDOWN unbelievably bested BEER BELLY BOB in an action
packed 3 minute gruesome bout. What is the deal with this repetition of
"unbelievable" victories? We saw it happen, how can we not believe it?
CLOSED MIND (8-4429) (17-6-0,57) of BLACKTHORN ORCS fought EGAN FORN (39-3295)
(28-48-0,52) of THE MIDDLE WAY. CLOSED MIND was defeated by EGAN FORN in an exciting
1 minute bout. And how does one defeat a closed mind? By opening it with an axe?
Or at least a crowbar. Some minds are very FIRMLY closed.
SUNFLASH (45-3474) (27-30-1,100) of NORTHERN LIGHTS fought PRINCE OF PITY (8-
3548) (18-4-2,60) of BLACKTHORN ORCS. SUNFLASH was vanquished by PRINCE OF PITY in
an action packed 1 minute one-sided match. But he pitied her afterward.
BEARNICE (47-2847) (19-23-6,139) of THE BEAR'S PAW fought KYRA (51-3774) (49-54-
1,150) of SAND DANCERS. BEARNICE was overpowered by KYRA in a popular 1 minute one-
sided match. It's a little-known fact that Bearnice is actually the Bear's Maw.
BEAR ACUDA (47-4995) (19-9-1,104) of THE BEAR'S PAW fought RANDOM MATCHUP (96-
1048) (17-10-4,135) of OVERRATED. BEAR ACUDA viciously subdued RANDOM MATCHUP in an
action packed 3 minute bloody duel. A dirty job, but somebody's got to do it. Out
upon the random matchups! By "out upon" I mean "use them as a doormat and trample
them underfoot as you exit the arena."
MATADOR (11-4139) (51-42-2,180) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS fought MIRTA (51-4033) (54-
38-1,174) of SAND DANCERS. MATADOR was overpowered by MIRTA in an exciting 2 minute
gory uneven fight. There's an extra charge, you'll find it down at the bottom of
your bill, for unusually gory fights. They're harder to clean up after. Sometimes
the sand has to be completely replaced.
TEN COMMANDMENTS (47-3843) (46-39-1,197) of ROYAL FLUSH fought VILLAINOUS
INFORMER (106-23) (0-0-0,181) of the College of Mimes. TEN COMMANDMENTS overpowered
VILLAINOUS INFORMER in a 2 minute mismatched fight. This is because of a little
known clause in the commandments, where one is enjoined, "Thou shalt not snitch."
JACK SPRAT (47-2954) (56-61-4,199) of ROYAL FLUSH fought VERMICIOUS KNID (106-
30) (0-0-0,240) of the College of Mimes. JACK SPRAT was luckily beaten by VERMICIOUS
KNID in an exciting 3 minute brutal match. What can you do when your opponent is so
thoroughly vermicious?
GROLSCH (21-5029) (44-6-4,202) of REAL BEER fought DANNIA TYL SIO (52-3393) (45-
29-1,193) of SAND DANCERS. GROLSCH was viciously subdued by DANNIA TYL SIO in a
crowd pleasing 3 minute brawl. Dannia viciously subdued a beer? A REAL beer? I
didn't think she was that kind of woman.
DISCO QUEEN (47-1992) (40-21-1,188) of ROYAL FLUSH fought SANDPAWN (11-4169)
(56-32-1,192) of ANDORIAN KNIGHTS. DISCO QUEEN overpowered SANDPAWN in an action
packed 10 minute brutal uneven struggle. This was a very LONG dance, and we're still
waiting on word from the Infirmary as to whether Sandpawn suffered brain damage due
to extended exposure to the flashing lights and pounding noise. This may be a
medical landmark.

(106-30) (0-0-0,240) of the College of Mimes. KING UVDAHELL was unbelievably bested
by VERMICIOUS KNID in a 3 minute conflict. You see? The Knid is HOT today. Phew!
Never get close to a hot knid.
JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (93-63-2,190) of ROYAL FLUSH fought ARENAMASTER SANDAVOL
(106-28) (0-0-0,200) of the College of Mimes. JACK VALTRAEDS savagely defeated
ARENAMASTER SANDAVOL in a 2 minute match. Gladiators tell me that beating an
arenamaster is always a rush. They struggle through the basic arenas where the
arenamaster is justly feared, a veritable nemesis, and then when they reach the Isle,
they find... he can be defeated!

(106-28) (0-0-0,200) of the College of Mimes. BURGER KING savagely defeated
ARENAMASTER SANDAVOL in a 2 minute competition. Actually, I think Sandoval is
getting rather shopworn. Perhaps we should get a NEW arenamaster?

Challenge duel. They say that every dog has his day, but you'll notice they don't
say he has TWO.
BLUE VELVET (11-6248) (20-7-0,67) of COLORIFIC challenged BALDER (28-3778) (17-
11-3,69) of VALHALLA. Up 2. BLUE VELVET won victory over BALDER in an action packed
4 minute Challenge duel. Amazing how good Balder looked, wrapped in blue velvet.

smother your opponent next time, Blue.

HAMMER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Be it known from the highest mountains to the darkest alleys of Alastari that
the veteran manager known far and wide as Hammer has now officially retired from
sponsoring contests as of September 15, 2005.
What a long time ago was a fun motivated activity to help promote our common
DM/D2 gaming interest in an effort to promote the growth and competitiveness of
selected arenas has become a far from fun experience.
In other words Hammer has had it!
The combination of real life situations interfering with the time needed to
effectively sponsor a contest, plus the attitudes expressed during such sponsorship
interference has led to Hammer closing his personal coin coffers and retiring from
his planned sponsorship of any future contests.
There are others in our close knit gaming community who are well able to step up
to the plate and continue sponsoring contests that make the basic game a fun
experience for all those who choose to compete and interact in such future endeavors.
Hammer thanks all managers both active and inactive who helped to make the
Hammer sponsored contests a historical and entertaining experience well worth the
time, effort and money spent over the past several years.
May the Cheers and the Jeers of future contests build upon the legacies of those
who have paved the way in years gone by to help make this game what it is today.
Hammer has no regrets for the part he has played in that history.
