Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard
Alright, I wasn't going to write another column, but Kethcum's inability to pay
attention to the fights has prompted me to do so. I should be on my way to Primus as
we speak. I won't be competing, I'm just going to check out the arena and see if
there is anything interesting to do there. I'll use the rest of my time to yell at
Ketchum!
Ketchum?!?! What in the Nine Hells was that report? Do you know how many people
bothered me throughout the week because you didn't bother to stay for the end of the
fight? Even if you didn't get to stay to the end of the fight, you could have at
least verified your sources.
This is nothing more than another sign that this world is going straight to Ahringol!
People start missing fights and the Advanced arenas die because no one seems to care
any more. Sure, you could blame the managers for their apparent apathy, but it goes
much higher than that I believe. When Spy Reporters don't even bother to sit through
all of the fights what kind of society have we become?!?! It is their freakin' jobs
to report on the fights! Not only to report on them, but to report on them
accurately! Am I asking to much of the GC?
My life has been a living nightmare these past few weeks. It didn't just cost me the
ease and comfort that is afforded to the Tower Guardian. It had a nice little gold
amount attached to it also. Do you realize I had to pay for my drinks at all the
local taverns! Tower Guardian drinks for free, BUT WAIT! Ketchum's report reads
that I lost, so now I have to pay! This is outrageous! You better pray I never
catch you outside the comfort of the Spy Reporters booth!

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
I open with an apology to Sidon, I can't imagine what came over me to misread
the fight results that completely. Must've been some kind of malign magic. Although
to be honest, I didn't think anybody read this stuff. The evidence in other Advanced
arenas is against it. Of course, Crysalis IS the best on the Isle.... Well, I'm
sorry. Ah... probably I was so dazzled by your sword-play that I couldn't see
straight.
A thought I had: Any gladiators here that would like to take part in a
"Scavenger Hunt Contest"? Members of the contest have to declare themselves and
perhaps their style--I'm still thinking about details--and then challenge other
contestants until they've defeated someone of each style. Chew it over and let me
know if you're interested.

Fifteen challenge matches, one involving a TV challenge. Two deaths, but we're not
afraid of death here.

tomato sauce you saw.
ROXANNE DE'MORRE (50-3449) (24-20-0,74) of DRUID'S GROVE fought SCANDALF (4-
6219) (25-29-0,49) of THE SHALLOWSHIP. ROXANNE DE'MORRE viciously subdued SCANDALF
in an exciting 3 minute bloody match. Well, the old boy isn't named Scandalf for a
reason, so Roxanne probably thought she had cause for her vicious response. She was
wrong, it was a compliment, but these druidic women have no sense of humor.
LADY CONSOLACION (28-3703) (22-31-2,35) of FILIPINA LADYZ fought SIPPYCUP SAM
(14-4280) (17-15-3,71) of PLAYPEN. LADY CONSOLACION demolished SIPPYCUP SAM in a
popular 1 minute mismatched battle. Better clean your cup, Sam, before someone
cleans your clock.
LADY DOMINGA (28-3702) (18-35-0,63) of FILIPINA LADYZ fought BLUE BLOOD (73-
3657) (14-10-1,63) of BLACK & BLUE. LADY DOMINGA was devastated by BLUE BLOOD in a 1
minute one-sided conflict. There seems to be a subtle social comment in this, but
it's too subtle for me.
WHITE SETTLER (47-5322) (24-13-1,80) of NATURAL B. KILLERS 2 fought LITTLE DEVIL
(14-4359) (17-15-0,48) of PLAYPEN. WHITE SETTLER murdered LITTLE DEVIL in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided fight. Listen, White, I know the Devil's a nuisance, but
this might be a tad extreme.
FENDER GRALE (50-3389) (22-41-2,68) of MIDDLE WAY 6 fought UNEMPLOYED PERSON
(106-5) (0-0-0,70) of the College of Mimes. FENDER GRALE was handily defeated by
UNEMPLOYED PERSON in a 1 minute one-sided bout. And why, one may ask, is this
Person, obviously a competent gladiator, still Unemployed? It's a long and sordid
story. I won't sully your ears with it.
WOZZECK (47-5644) (13-8-1,48) of THE OPERA fought SUNFLASH (45-3474) (31-47-
1,58) of NORTHERN LIGHTS. WOZZECK vanquished SUNFLASH in a 1 minute one-sided match.
Ho, that's got to be embarrassing for Sunflash! Good, keep her humble. There isn't
much humility on the Isle, and we need all we can get.
LOOGIE CLAP (82-46049) (21-11-2,76) of TONGUE N CHEEK fought ELLITA FESS (50-
3392) (33-35-1,70) of MIDDLE WAY 6. LOOGIE CLAP was overpowered by ELLITA FESS in a
2 minute one-sided fray. Obviously a woman of parts.
WHAT'S A BLINKER? (14-3773) (22-15-0,94) of PISSED PIZZA GUYS fought LEGALASS
(4-6217) (25-28-1,47) of THE SHALLOWSHIP. WHAT'S A BLINKER? was overpowered by
LEGALASS in a 1 minute one-sided duel. Fitting... no, wait. I thought the victor
here was "Legalese," and I see now that I was wrong. Maybe I do need glasses. Just
for my own curiosity, what IS a blinker?
CHILLILI CHES (73-5604) (19-39-1,97) of FAVORITE GUYS fought MANI (31-5102) (22-
25-4,66) of SOL INVICTUS. CHILLILI CHES was handily defeated by MANI in a popular 1
minute one-sided match. So much for your first fight on the Isle, Chillili. Maybe
you should eschew the chance to have a second one.
BLACK FLAG (82-46046) (20-11-3,91) of TONGUE N CHEEK fought FROSTFLARE (45-4112)
(19-17-1,59) of NORTHERN LIGHTS. BLACK FLAG was overpowered by FROSTFLARE in a 1
minute uneven competition. They tell me that after this encounter, the Infirmarian
found Black grozen stiff and totally unable to flap. I didn't think Frosty was quite
that cold, but then, I wasn't down there on the sands.
GENERAL PUBLIC (31-3112) (20-17-1,136) of MILITARY MAYHEM fought HOLLAN INNIS
(50-3388) (31-31-0,106) of MIDDLE WAY 6. GENERAL PUBLIC was overcome by HOLLAN INNIS
in a crowd pleasing 1 minute fight. Does this count as a Major Setback?
SCORPIUS (45-3752) (31-17-0,109) of KNIGHT BREED fought ARAGANT (4-6220) (33-18-
0,117) of THE SHALLOWSHIP. SCORPIUS subdued ARAGANT in an action packed 2 minute
conflict. Alas, poor Aragant, not an encouraging introduction to Crysalis, eh? But
hang in there and you can lose to a wide variety of people. We've got all kinds.
SHARD (45-3507) (27-41-1,114) of NORTHERN LIGHTS fought REAGANOMICS (21-6182)
(22-11-1,116) of D.R.I. SHARD was overpowered by REAGANOMICS in an action packed 1
minute bloody uneven battle. No surprise here, who can grapple with the issues of
Reagnomics? Too confusing.
SNOWFALL (45-3473) (44-34-0,122) of NORTHERN LIGHTS fought CANNIBAL CORPSE (61-
2373) (30-36-4,113) of FEAR FACTORY. SNOWFALL dispatched CANNIBAL CORPSE in a 1
minute match. Can you kill a corpse? I know Olaf would say you can, but he's
biased, being dead himself. From the perspective of a live person, I don't see it.
Dead is dead. Well, until resurrection.
WRETCHEDMISERY (33-7255) (33-21-0,180) of CHAOTICDISORDER fought UNCERTAIN
OMELET (47-3786) (19-8-0,141) of MYSTIC ORC FEAST. WRETCHEDMISERY overpowered
UNCERTAIN OMELET in a 2 minute one-sided competition. They made a well-suited pair.
Very circular.
PERSEUS (72-1612) (57-39-1,179) of DEADLY RAGE II fought URG GUTSPILLER (59-
2561) (24-11-1,111) of VILE REAVERS. PERSEUS vanquished URG GUTSPILLER in an action
packed 2 minute one-sided bout. I should hope so! Guts on the sand is something the
maintenance crew gets really burned about.
PROPANE TORCH (61-2524) (37-37-1,174) of FEAR FACTORY fought HUNGRY BONES (31-
4720) (20-12-1,147) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS. PROPANE TORCH overpowered HUNGRY BONES in a
crowd pleasing 2 minute one-sided match. Burned bones... okay. Crumbly afterward,
aren't they? What's the word, calcined?
BEARNICE (47-2847) (27-36-7,170) of THE BEAR'S PAW fought FLATTUS MAXIMUS (77-
2125) (49-53-2,148) of GWAR. BEARNICE was demolished by FLATTUS MAXIMUS in a 1
minute one-sided struggle. Hey, you have a sensitive nose, some opponents you avoid,
or should.
KNUCKLE JAW (77-2129) (47-54-2,154) of GWAR fought DEMONICHELLION (33-7038) (28-
28-2,106) of CHAOTICDISORDER. KNUCKLE JAW vanquished DEMONICHELLION in an exciting 1
minute mismatched fight. With a straight knuckle TO the jaw, no doubt.
Unfortunately, there was an elephant sitting in front of me, and every time it stood
up, I missed things.
AGLIBOL (12-5848) (38-30-1,188) of DARKMOON fought MAYLA TYL CRENA (82-7113)
(35-27-0,199) of FEAR FACTORY III. AGLIBOL was savagely defeated by MAYLA TYL CRENA
in an exciting 4 minute bloody fray. "Savagely." "Exciting." "Bloody." Quite a
show, but then, the Crenas were always noted for their tempers.
BRIARTHORN (12-5671) (41-35-2,189) of DARKMOON fought NINE INCH NAIL (61-2273)
(39-34-4,162) of FEAR FACTORY. BRIARTHORN savagely defeated NINE INCH NAIL in an
exciting 3 minute brutal fight. So, a turn around from the preceding fight. Pit for
pat, and so on. And more exciting savagery, this time coupled with brutality. You
have to wonder about the crowd that was screaming with enjoyment the whole time.
PUNGENT STENCH (61-2458) (46-32-1,201) of FEAR FACTORY fought RIRORNI CAPTAIN
(106-26) (0-0-0,200) of the College of Mimes. PUNGENT STENCH was viciously subdued
by RIRORNI CAPTAIN in an exciting 2 minute fight. Natural enough, I suppose. Have
you ever really looked at a Rirorni? They're practically noseless. Well, I suppose
they HAVE noses, but so flat they probably can't smell a thing.
3 FISTED RAT BOY (70-6130) (39-55-3,196) of GWAR fought WHEEL OF FORTUNE (25-
2529) (48-44-2,188) of DUELING FOR DOLLARS. 3 FISTED RAT BOY overpowered WHEEL OF
FORTUNE in a 2 minute one-sided fight. Does this mean Boy gets the bucks?
STIGMA OF STUPID (31-4948) (32-15-1,207) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS fought MUDVAYNE
(61-3039) (27-24-0,165) of FEAR FACTORY. STIGMA OF STUPID handily defeated MUDVAYNE
in a 1 minute mismatched bout. Is it stupid if it wins fights? I think we could
argue this point. Endlessly, probably.
SPATHA (31-4996) (38-32-2,197) of SOL INVICTUS fought MARILYN MANSON (61-1993)
(40-30-2,174) of FEAR FACTORY. SPATHA savagely defeated MARILYN MANSON in an action
packed 5 minute gory duel. Yes, well, that Spatha is veritably a "son of the sword."
Gives him an edge. What, you think I jest? I saw his registration papers. It's
right there in sepia and beige (the papers are written on some kind of parchment
stuff, and signed with blood).
MORTICIAN (2-3890) (75-20-1,203) of DARK TOADS fought RIDDLER (61-1856) (73-57-
1,198) of FEAR FACTORY. MORTICIAN savagely defeated RIDDLER in a tiresome 34 minute
gruesome bout. Good gods! THIRTY-FOUR minutes? This is... ah, well, it gave
everybody a chance to have lunch, stretch their legs, and so on. Not all bad. Of
course, the brief but violent rainstorm in the middle made things interesting....
KIMO (70-6089) (39-43-4,182) of FEAR FACTORY IV fought GILIA HARN (50-3391) (34-
35-0,173) of MIDDLE WAY 6. KIMO overpowered GILIA HARN in a 1 minute uneven fight.
Yes, well, it happens. A lot.
TOADKILLER DOG (47-1103) (33-13-1,215) of WASTED SCUM fought COERCE (78-1577)
(33-27-1,190) of FEAR FACTORY. TOADKILLER DOG savagely defeated COERCE in a popular
7 minute gruesome fight. This came as a surprise to many who did not realize that
Coerce was a toad at heart.
KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (49-25-1,220) of ROYAL FLUSH fought WEINERMUN (37-2635)
(56-50-3,198) of ALL THE MUN'S MEN. KING UVDAHELL vanquished WEINERMUN in a popular
1 minute mismatched fray. And this without mustard. If anybody figures out who took
the last of the mustard, notify the arena staff at ONCE. Yes, there was a lot of
dog-eating going on during Mortician's fight, but that is no excuse for cleaning out
the mustard. There was a gallon of it, after all!
NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (83-27-0,230) of PARTY ANIMALS fought THE WHEAT KING (58-
5407) (72-57-2,200) of AUTUMN LIGHTNING. NEWT GINGRICH lost to THE WHEAT KING in a
popular 6 minute gruesome match. Probably a wheat allergy. Sometimes they're latent
for years and then spring out and grab you by the throat. Better check on it, Newt.
WHACKING WILLOW (52-3167) (40-10-1,234) of FLOWER GIRLS fought MORTIFICATION
(61-2333) (52-42-4,197) of FEAR FACTORY. WHACKING WILLOW slimly won victory over
MORTIFICATION in a popular 16 minute contest. I must draw a veil of, ahem, public
morals or something over what was, I admit, a very interesting exhibition. Good
thing there weren't any horses in the arena, or it would have scared them for sure.
RETROVIRUS (70-6086) (48-35-0,220) of FEAR FACTORY IV fought ARTEMISIA (12-5096)
(45-46-0,204) of DARKMOON. RETROVIRUS savagely defeated ARTEMISIA in a popular 9
minute bloody match. There have been a lot of longish fights today, and I thank all
involved in them, even if it's because you're drawing it out to make sure I can see
what's happening. It pleases me to see spy reporters from other Isle arenas (most of
us use the same structure in rotation with each other) grinding their teeth in
frustration. Ha! Let 'em call us "slowpokes"! We're the best on the Isle, and they
know it.
BRAND (82-13289) (42-30-1,264) of TOADS OF AMBER III fought GRINNON BEARIT (47-
2955) (42-29-3,231) of THE BEAR'S PAW. BRAND overpowered GRINNON BEARIT in an
exciting 1 minute one-sided bout. Grinning the whole time, which, fortunately (teeth
dry out if you grin too long) was not a very long time.

have a fence to paint--does the insufferable sprout do NOTHING else?--you do it

(22-6-1,104) of CRAZY CREEPS. Up 8. HARI-KARI handily defeated TINY TIM in a 2
minute one-sided Challenge conflict. AND broke his ukelele, for which Hari received
the gratitude of every hearing person.
BLUE VELVET (11-6248) (27-10-0,146) of COLORIFIC challenged BALDER (28-3778)
(27-22-3,168) of VALHALLA. Up 22. BLUE VELVET narrowly defeated BALDER in a crowd
pleasing 5 minute Challenge match. Did you ever think how DIFFERENT it would be to
see a fight like this end in a draw?
TEMUJIN (65-3796) (32-11-0,165) of SPLIT INFINITY 2 challenged CANNONBALL (72-
5313) (24-27-1,167) of X-POSSE. Up 2. TEMUJIN luckily beat CANNONBALL in a crowd
pleasing 8 minute Challenge competition. If we're talking split infinities and the
speed of cannonballs here, why did the fight take eight minutes? Inquiring minds
wonder.

(31-45-0,183) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Up 2. KING FORADAY narrowly defeated DUNEDIN in
an exciting 2 minute Challenge fight. If this defeat was narrow, what does it say
about the victorious King's prowess?
DISCO QUEEN (47-1992) (44-23-1,194) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged BALCLUTHA (14-
3169) (31-40-1,198) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Up 4. DISCO QUEEN was savagely defeated
by BALCLUTHA in an exciting 2 minute Challenge fight. And not only defeated, now
Balclutha is wearing the flashing crown. At least for today.

(24-12-0,203) of DARQUE FORCES. Up 3. JACK VALTRAEDS was vanquished by EVE in a 1
minute uneven Challenge fight. Many men go weak at the knees in the presence of Eve,
Jack not being the first.

4995) (28-21-1,193) of THE BEAR'S PAW. Up 1. OUR LADY PEACE was vanquished by BEAR
ACUDA in a 1 minute uneven Challenge duel. No peace around the Bear Acuda, it's like
a friendly poker game. Can't do it.
DAIRY QUEEN (47-2685) (74-42-3,187) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged SODOM (31-4368)
(32-18-1,189) of DARQUE FORCES. Up 2. DAIRY QUEEN bested SODOM in a popular 3
minute gruesome Challenge competition. Does this mean that Dairy Queen is so fresh
and innocent (as well as tasty and cool) that she, ah, vanquishes the dark? Ah,
darque. Sorry.
FIGHTER ACE (47-1189) (68-46-6,205) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged RANDOM MATCHUP
(96-1048) (30-14-4,213) of OVERRATED. Up 8. FIGHTER ACE was vanquished by RANDOM
MATCHUP in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Many have fallen to random
matches, but it always appears odd when it happens on a challenge. One of life's
little paradoxen.
PHILLIP THE BIRD (40-3708) (17-9-1,187) of CRUEL PET NAMES challenged SOUL
SCOURGE (59-2589) (30-11-0,187) of VILE REAVERS. Straight across. PHILLIP THE BIRD
was luckily beaten by SOUL SCOURGE in a 3 minute Challenge match. This was not luck,
this was a punishment for Phillip's irreverant and cruel habits. Repent! Where is
the Obsessed Avenger when you need him, anyway?

2,254) of COMMON JOE'S. Up 20. AMPLITUR vanquished PAT in a popular 1 minute
mismatched Challenge brawl. You can recognize Pat by his red face. Truly, he should
not have lost that one!
BOARISH YELTSIN (5-3109) (64-43-2,294) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged CRUMBSNATCHER
(72-1842) (49-29-1,320) of ONE GOOD DUDE. Up 26. BOARISH YELTSIN overcame
CRUMBSNATCHER in a popular 1 minute Challenge match. Not only did Boarish overcome,
he ate all the crumbs as well.
And in the absence of our Truly Splendid but Now Inducted former Crysaline
