Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard
My! How nice. I think I am liking this new management! I am. I am not sure I
have ever been a Duelmaster, but here I am The Tower Guardian of Crysalis. I think
I'm proud!
So let me introduce myself a little. I am Brand of Toads Of Amber III. I used
to be a part of Toad/Daniel's empire. He would have called me a godling. Some while
ago--almost two years, actually, I was transferred to The Consortium. I kind of
think of it as I played out my option and The Consortium gave me the best deal. Know
what I mean? But, you know, who cares about the management? I just care that they
get me where I want to go. This is one of those steps, so I am satisfied at the
moment.
To Wheel Of Fortune, who I defeated to earn this title, I say--you had your
shot. Aim better next time.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
The Unknown Spymaster showed up here with a bag to give a spy report. Okay, he
does that. We expect that. But this time, don't ask me why, although it may have
been his shifty eye-holes, one of the stewards decided to SEARCH the bag. I am not
permitted to tell you what was found, because "the investigation is ongoing," but it
was, to put it mildly, startling and disturbing. If you see anyone hanging around an
arena with a bag over his head, STAY AWAY from him.
But on to the regular business of the day:
Brand got the most challenges, and since Brand held the title for this arena,
this is an encouraging fact.
Mystic Orc Feast was avoided by Royal Flush. Quite so. Doubtless for sound and
valid reasons.
We had twenty-nine fights, seven of them involving standbys. I think that's a
seven. I seem to have set a damp glass down on it. But it looks like a seven. Of
course, the longest fight was seven minutes, so it might also be a confusion.
Whichever. Feed it chicken soup and maybe it'll go away. There were only five
challenges (that went through), and none of them were tv challenges.
As to the fights themselves:
ROXANNE DE'MORRE (50-3449) (28-25-0,66) of DRUID'S GROVE fought LADY DOMINGA
(28-3702) (21-41-0,66) of FILIPINA LADYZ. ROXANNE DE'MORRE handily defeated LADY
DOMINGA in a 3 minute brutal one-sided fight. Ladyhood can be a handicap in the
gladiatorial life. Plus, druidic types are tough cookies. Always climbing trees and
waving sickles around. Nasty dispositions, too, most of them. Burning people in
wicker cages! Not a friendly act.
GHOST DANCER (28-3365) (26-17-0,50) of DODGE BULLETS fought GLUM (54-2766) (15-
6-1,52) of JANIX. GHOST DANCER was defeated by GLUM in a 1 minute duel. Should this
be taken as an indication that ghosts require cheerful dances? Or perhaps cheer is
necessary for a dancer to dance. Or, a lot of other possibilites. I must restrain
the tendency to ramble on here.
DESPERADO (28-1152) (24-29-1,73) of DODGE BULLETS fought DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (68-
4666) (9-4-0,31) of BLOOD 4 THE MASSES. DESPERADO lost to DEVIL'S ADVOCATE in a
popular 2 minute bout. Intriguing possibilities here, if Desperado actually DOES
become involved in the adventure down in the Charter Cities area.
ANVIL IRONFIST (81-84) (23-4-0,73) of DRAGONBANE GUILD fought LADY CONSOLACION
(28-3703) (25-37-3,61) of FILIPINA LADYZ. ANVIL IRONFIST luckily beat LADY
CONSOLACION in an exciting 2 minute bloody fray. Too bad, Ms. Consolacion. But the
arena just isn't the place for a ladylike approach. Although I did hear that once or
twice Emma Le Poste has done a spy report. Of course, it was in Free Blades.
They're weird in Free Blades, everyone knows it.
WAIMATE (14-3172) (18-10-1,65) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS fought AMELIA (28-3417) (21-
5-1,72) of DODGE BULLETS. WAIMATE was overpowered by AMELIA in a 1 minute uneven
duel. Does this mean that Amelia can dodge blades as well as bullets? They tell me
she flies, but I've never seen that here.
LITTLE DEVIL (14-4359) (20-21-0,79) of PLAYPEN fought CAPTURED PIRATE KING (106-
2) (0-0-0,30) of the College of Mimes. LITTLE DEVIL overpowered CAPTURED PIRATE KING
in a 1 minute one-sided bout. Typical. You know how it is, the Pirate Kings, Orcs,
or what have you that get captured are the wimps.
SIPPYCUP SAM (14-4280) (21-20-3,100) of PLAYPEN fought GERRICK GRIMM (50-3530)
(17-18-0,59) of DRUID'S GROVE. SIPPYCUP SAM was assassinated by GERRICK GRIMM in a
popular 1 minute one-sided duel. Now, this is truly grimm! And there was a distinct
flavor of wicker cages and flames toward the end of the fight. What are things
coming to? Can we change the trend, and should we?
U.S.S. ARIZONA (34-2643) (24-18-1,139) of D-DAY SQUAD fought CHEATING MANAGER
(106-6) (0-0-0,130) of the College of Mimes. U.S.S. ARIZONA savagely defeated
CHEATING MANAGER in a 2 minute gory match. And a good job, too! Nobody likes that
Cheating Manager.
MOSGIEL (14-3836) (30-15-1,144) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS fought BILLY LILLY (28-
3416) (27-15-1,104) of DODGE BULLETS. MOSGIEL viciously subdued BILLY LILLY in an
action packed 1 minute bloody duel. You'll notice that nobody called this
"unbelievable." It was all too plausible, and Billy should start using his avoids.
Of course, there aren't enough avoids to prevent ALL matches, so he's still going to
have to make an effort.
BLUE BLOOD (73-3657) (22-11-1,142) of BLACK & BLUE fought YOUNG JOAN (28-3534)
(28-23-1,114) of DODGE BULLETS. BLUE BLOOD overpowered YOUNG JOAN in an exciting 1
minute gory uneven fight. An inhuman concept, blue blood. Quite possibly something
demonic? One does not HAVE to wonder, but one does: What is the hidden significance
of this. The fact that Young Joan is adventuring makes the question a pressing one.
FRED BEAR (47-5348) (23-11-0,131) of THE BEAR'S PAW fought BLACK FLAG (82-46046)
(26-14-3,121) of TONGUE N CHEEK. FRED BEAR was overcome by BLACK FLAG in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute competition. How em-bear-assing for Fred!
HARI-KARI (73-3049) (18-5-0,145) of WAY TO GO! II fought LOOGIE CLAP (82-46049)
(24-17-2,106) of TONGUE N CHEEK. HARI-KARI overpowered LOOGIE CLAP in a popular 1
minute one-sided bout. Hard to know what I can reasonably say about this without
sounding biased, so I will let it pass. It is the nature of biases to be
unreasonable, after all.
DAIRY QUEEN (47-2685) (77-44-3,205) of ROYAL FLUSH fought AMBER WOLFWALKER (106-
11) (0-0-0,220) of the College of Mimes. DAIRY QUEEN was viciously subdued by AMBER
WOLFWALKER in an exciting 3 minute fight. Whoa! I did not even GUESS that Amber was
"into" soft-serve ice cream. Hmm, ice cream.... I think there's some fresh cake in
the spy reporters' break room. Coffee, too, but I can pass on that. Easily.
KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (51-27-1,201) of ROYAL FLUSH fought VERMICIOUS KNID
(106-30) (0-0-0,240) of the College of Mimes. KING UVDAHELL was unbelievably bested
by VERMICIOUS KNID in a 3 minute bout. Who have the Mimes been bribing to get this
unbalanced matches and win fights?
JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (110-69-2,200) of ROYAL FLUSH fought CLOTTO (106-25) (0-
0-0,181) of the College of Mimes. JACK VALTRAEDS overpowered CLOTTO in a crowd
pleasing 3 minute one-sided duel. Good! I was beginning to worry about this.
HUNGRY BONES (31-4720) (25-16-1,208) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS fought GROLSCH (21-
5029) (47-10-4,204) of REAL BEER. HUNGRY BONES was viciously subdued by GROLSCH in a
crowd pleasing 4 minute bout. Ms. Bones, the best thinkers are of the opinion that
you should not drink REAL beer until you've eaten. Remember this in the future.
BLUE VELVET (11-6248) (31-11-0,205) of COLORIFIC fought BEARNICE (47-2847) (31-
41-7,172) of THE BEAR'S PAW. BLUE VELVET slimly won victory over BEARNICE in an
exciting 5 minute brutal contest. And slim does indeed describe Blue Velvet. Also
smooth, sinuous, slinky, sensuous... I could go on like this for some time.
VENEMOUS PORCUPINE (44-288) (82-61-0,315) of D.A. REJECTS fought VERMICIOUS KNID
(106-30) (0-0-0,240) of the College of Mimes. VENEMOUS PORCUPINE overpowered
VERMICIOUS KNID in an exciting 4 minute one-sided fight. Good. The Knid was getting
above itself. Can't have that, it encourages the spread of vermicity.
GEORGE WASHING TEN (47-2352) (69-44-0,254) of ROYAL FLUSH fought CLOTTO (106-25)
(0-0-0,181) of the College of Mimes. GEORGE WASHING TEN was overpowered by CLOTTO in
a 1 minute uneven match. George! How did this happen? What was difficult about
this match?
VIKING RAIDER (54-2885) (22-5-1,231) of SPARF! fought AB DESTINED 4 THE DA (65-
1154) (16-7-2,198) of PAUL'Z PHARTZ. VIKING RAIDER won victory over AB DESTINED 4
THE DA in a popular 2 minute duel. Well, naturally. What else could one expect? If
we had a DA here, I'm sure AB would head straight for it.
MAJOR DAMAGE (31-600) (79-50-2,294) of MILITARY MAYHEM fought WHEEL OF FORTUNE
(25-2529) (50-51-2,196) of DUELING FOR DOLLARS. MAJOR DAMAGE slimly won victory over
WHEEL OF FORTUNE in a popular 3 minute duel. Does this mean that the Major was able
to inflict corporal punishment?
BOARISH YELTSIN (5-3109) (70-43-2,405) of PARTY ANIMALS fought WEINERMUN (37-
2635) (59-56-3,200) of ALL THE MUN'S MEN. BOARISH YELTSIN lost to WEINERMUN in a 2
minute duel. So much for Boarish showing up for the fight with an off-hand hot dog
bun! Such implied slurs only make your opponent more determined, Boarish.
DUTCH TREAT (26-1841) (104-36-2,249) of WORLDWIDE GORE fought UNCERTAIN OMELET
(47-3786) (22-14-0,198) of MYSTIC ORC FEAST. DUTCH TREAT devastated UNCERTAIN OMELET
in a 1 minute one-sided competition. I believe it was the cascade of tulips that
turned the table.
GERMAN SHEPARD (26-916) (99-58-0,372) of WORLDWIDE GORE fought AVONSIDE (13-
3927) (36-46-1,205) of KIWI CONNECTION. GERMAN SHEPARD bested AVONSIDE in a 3 minute
match. Tell me who expected otherwise. I consider it a mark in Avonside's favor
that the arena scribes did not consider this match "one-sided" or "mismatched."
And the challenge matches:
VIOLET VULTURE (11-6612) (25-4-0,154) of ANIMAL FARM challenged BALDER (28-3778)
(30-28-3,197) of VALHALLA. Up 43. VIOLET VULTURE unbelievably bested BALDER in an
action packed 5 minute Challenge brawl. How can we be surprised? The Vulture is not
merely violet but royally, even imperially purple! A veritable eagle among vultures.
NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (86-29-0,202) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged BEAR ACUDA (47-
4995) (31-27-1,192) of THE BEAR'S PAW. Down 10. NEWT GINGRICH was overpowered by
BEAR ACUDA in a 2 minute one-sided Challenge fight. They do say that bears will eat
anything, even (shudder) newts.
PET CEMETARY (73-605) (79-41-2,198) of KING'S COURT challenged STIGMA OF STUPID
(31-4948) (36-20-1,195) of UNFIT TO BE ORCS. Down 3. PET CEMETARY vanquished STIGMA
OF STUPID in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge brawl. Anyone who wanders carelessly
around a cemetary is, indeed, in danger of a deserved charge of stupidity, and
possibly even a terminal one.
IRRITATING BEGGAR (73-1110) (68-20-1,230) of D.A. REJECTS challenged TOADKILLER
DOG (47-1103) (38-17-1,266) of WASTED SCUM. Up 36. IRRITATING BEGGAR was savagely
defeated by TOADKILLER DOG in a 7 minute melee. So! Whoever it was who gave that
annoying Beggar a toad right before the fight must have had some inside knowledge,
eh?
And the title match:
BRAND (82-13289) (48-31-1,278) of TOADS OF AMBER III challenged RANDOM MATCHUP
(96-1048) (36-17-4,214) of OVERRATED. Down 64. BRAND viciously subdued RANDOM
MATCHUP in a 4 minute Challenge Title fight. And our congratulations to Brand for
winning, but also to Random for at least holding out four minutes.
