Reflections by the Chief Tower Guard
Again I hold the Crysaline Helm; maybe for the last time. The Commission is
booting me up. Perhaps I shall try out the lower levels of The Big (Really Big)
Time. Perhaps not. I always liked fishing.
Sir Crip, this is your chance to really take over this place. (Manager Crip is
a godling, TCing at a Face without having been there! What a guy!) Let's all send
him some pop corn for a treat! Oh, Pop Khan was the treat?
My brothers in The Consortium are looking forward to the upcoming Turf War. It
is always fun and formidable to be teamed in a fellowship with Crip, Slugbait,
Mannequin, Soultaker, Nuln and Spawn. An international collection, I'd say.
May the best warrior win the title.

Ah. Here we are, blue sky, white clouds, a little rain overnight to freshen
things up, and the day is glorious. What other kind of day would be suitable for the
meeting of the gladiators of Crysalis? But you didn't open your newsletter to check
out the weather report; that's what windows are for.
So:
The Family Tree was avoided by the Party Animals. Probably afraid they'd fall
out and break an arm.
Fred Bear got the most challenges.
We had twenty-eight fights, with three standbys. Twelve were challenge matches,
one of them a tv challenge.
What could be more straight forward and more satisfying?
UNHOLY TERROR (8-5051) (15-7-3,55) of BLOOD RITES fought ROXANNE DE'MORRE (50-
3449) (32-28-0,65) of DRUID'S GROVE. UNHOLY TERROR was defeated by ROXANNE DE'MORRE
in an action packed 1 minute duel. Some people don't respond well to terror. It's a
problem for those who count on it to paralyze a victim, but there it is, you just
can't have everything.
SERB SMASHER (71-1393) (18-11-2,79) of DOGS OF WAR fought TOTTI (17-5991) (17-8-
2,89) of ITALIAN FOOTBALL. SERB SMASHER vanquished TOTTI in a 1 minute one-sided
bout. He not only smashes curds, ah, serbs, but footballs as well. What
versatility!
AIKEN (71-3933) (7-5-0,26) of SUPERIOR FORCES Y4 fought ALASTARIAN DESERTER
(106-1) (0-0-0,30) of the College of Mimes. AIKEN handily defeated ALASTARIAN
DESERTER in a 1 minute mismatched bout. I should hope so! It is nobody's business
to lose to this turkey.
AMELIA (28-3417) (24-9-1,77) of DODGE BULLETS fought MIKE TYSON (71-360) (21-9-
1,63) of BIG BAD BRAWLERS. AMELIA was viciously subdued by MIKE TYSON in a 2 minute
gory fray. Good thing Amelia has escaped the adventure, eh?
YOUNG JOAN (28-3534) (28-30-1,99) of DODGE BULLETS fought LADY ELMA (28-4244)
(19-23-2,82) of FILIPINA LADYZ. YOUNG JOAN was demolished by LADY ELMA in a 1 minute
one-sided melee. Too bad Joan has *not* escaped the adventure. Hmm, do you suppose
this is some kind of "home-town grudge"?
BILLY LILLY (28-3416) (27-22-1,112) of DODGE BULLETS fought GERRICK GRIMM (50-
3530) (19-23-1,116) of DRUID'S GROVE. BILLY LILLY was overpowered by GERRICK GRIMM
in a popular 2 minute gory uneven fight. Methinks these Dodge Bullets fellows need
to work on dodging swords. It might do them more good.
HARI-KARI (73-3049) (25-5-0,179) of WAY TO GO! II fought CHUCK NORRIS (71-993)
(18-9-1,145) of BIG BAD BRAWLERS. HARI-KARI defeated CHUCK NORRIS in an action
packed 1 minute fight. Ah, Chucky, you just can't count on the "flying fingers of
fate" sort of thing when the other guy's got a sword, a shield, armor, all that
stuff. Fight steel with steel.
ZIT (8-4385) (28-3-0,165) of Z GLADIATORZ fought DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (68-4666) (15-
5-0,134) of BLOOD 4 THE MASSES. ZIT handily defeated DEVIL'S ADVOCATE in an exciting
6 minute one-sided contest. Now, this is not an approach I would have expected to
work, and yet it seems to have done so. How can this be? Can it be repeated?
Taught? Marketed?
BLACK FLAG (82-46046) (31-16-3,166) of TONGUE N CHEEK fought PRIVATE ROOM (31-
3620) (24-13-0,155) of MILITARY MAYHEM. BLACK FLAG was overcome by PRIVATE ROOM in a
2 minute duel. Ah, and who knows what goes on behind those closed doors, hmm? The
servants might have tales to tell, were you to bribe them richly enough.
RUBBER KNIFE (54-2038) (51-39-1,185) of USELESS TOOLS fought GOJIRO (106-31) (0-
0-0,220) of the College of Mimes. RUBBER KNIFE was overpowered by GOJIRO in an
exciting 2 minute gory uneven fight. How can this be? We expected better from this
Rubber Knife. It must be a useless tool indeed.
BOARISH YELTSIN (5-3109) (73-47-2,193) of PARTY ANIMALS fought VIOLET VULTURE
(11-6612) (26-4-0,183) of ANIMAL FARM. BOARISH YELTSIN overpowered VIOLET VULTURE in
a 1 minute mismatched fight. What a boarish thing for him to do!
VENEMOUS PORCUPINE (44-288) (88-62-0,258) of D.A. REJECTS fought BLOODY SKIN
(20-1986) (39-37-1,187) of THE FAMILY TREE. VENEMOUS PORCUPINE murdered BLOODY SKIN
in a 1 minute one-sided bout. This is a serious accusation. Killed, slew, even
butchered, yes, but murdered? This implies forethought, planning, and intent. I
believe an investigation may be in order here.
JACK VALTRAEDS (47-407) (115-71-2,219) of ROYAL FLUSH fought MAD CAT (7-2965)
(59-40-6,207) of INSP GADGETS MINIONS. JACK VALTRAEDS viciously subdued MAD CAT in a
popular 3 minute brutal brawl. And a good thing. That darned cat has scratched
every single member of the arena staff, and some of them came down with serious
infections.
PRIMUS (21-4975) (58-16-0,257) of REAL BEER fought BEAR ACUDA (47-4995) (34-31-
1,216) of THE BEAR'S PAW. PRIMUS slimly won victory over BEAR ACUDA in an exciting 6
minute bloody fray. Ah, Ms. Acuda has strictly charged me not to make any comments
about her capacity for beer, on pain of pain, so I'll just point that Primus really
had to work for this one.
GROLSCH (21-5029) (53-10-4,251) of REAL BEER fought ARENAMASTER SANDAVOL (106-
28) (0-0-0,200) of the College of Mimes. GROLSCH narrowly defeated ARENAMASTER
SANDAVOL in a popular 4 minute bloody duel. Arenamaster Sandoval's capacity for
beer, however, is well known to all. But he only drinks lite beer.
The challenge matches:
NECROMANCER (78-2520) (18-3-1,67) of MAGIC ARTISTS challenged GHOST DANCER (28-
3365) (30-20-0,71) of DODGE BULLETS. Up 4. NECROMANCER devastated GHOST DANCER in a
1 minute bloody one-sided Challenge battle. Getting reckless, are you, girl?
Devastating the teammate of your adventuring partners could have strange
repercussions.
DON FRANCIS (30-4619) (16-8-0,67) of LENPROS challenged SRAN3E (28-4382) (16-8-
0,74) of PHANTACITY. Up 7. DON FRANCIS overpowered SRAN3E in a crowd pleasing 3
minute one-sided Challenge match. One would have called them a well-matched pair,
before the fight.
SMIRK (39-3606) (27-9-0,58) of CHEAP SHOTS challenged DESPERADO (28-1152) (28-
32-1,61) of DODGE BULLETS. SMIRK was overpowered by DESPERADO in a popular 1 minute
uneven Challenge match. Gods, can we stand to have all these people, ah, "smirking"
around here? Although I will admit that it has improved Desperado's mood completely.
He was even heard to offer to buy a teammate a beer.
WYVERN (82-29373) (15-5-0,119) of DARK TOADS 04W challenged FRED BEAR (47-5348)
(26-15-0,140) of THE BEAR'S PAW. Up 21. WYVERN vanquished FRED BEAR in a 1 minute
one-sided Challenge duel. A challenge that looked reckless on the face of it, but...
that was before. Now, one can only wonder at what secret skills the Wyvern may have
employed.
PUPPY ON PATROL (71-1613) (20-13-0,116) of DOGS OF WAR challenged LAND OF FLUSH
(11-4373) (16-13-0,158) of CONSORTIUM CRAP. Up 42. PUPPY ON PATROL lost to LAND OF
FLUSH in a 2 minute Challenge fight. If a pup won't learn to leave the house clean,
well, then sterner measures will be called for.
CAFFREY'S (21-4748) (19-3-3,135) of REAL BEER challenged SAMURAI STRIKER (71-62)
(20-19-1,140) of DOGS OF WAR. Up 5. CAFFREY'S handily defeated SAMURAI STRIKER in a
1 minute uneven Challenge melee. To strike a samurai is one thing, but to handle
real beer is clearly another entirely. I've noticed that myself.
DUTCH TREAT (26-1841) (110-37-2,204) of WORLDWIDE GORE challenged WEINERMUN (37-
2635) (62-60-3,209) of ALL THE MUN'S MEN. Up 5. DUTCH TREAT beat WEINERMUN in a
crowd pleasing 4 minute gory Challenge brawl. And it's hotdogs for all. Yes, okay,
a hackneyed play on words, but I had to say something. It's expected.
RUBBER KNIFE (57-2546) (23-6-1,193) of USELESS TOOLS challenged DUNEDIN (14-
3703) (33-53-0,195) of OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Up 2. RUBBER KNIFE won victory over
DUNEDIN in a crowd pleasing 2 minute Challenge fight. Ah, *this* must be the real,
potent Rubber Knife.
KING UVDAHELL (47-1643) (55-30-1,209) of ROYAL FLUSH challenged AVONSIDE (13-
3927) (38-51-1,210) of KIWI CONNECTION. Up 1. KING UVDAHELL overpowered AVONSIDE in
a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. This is life, Avonside. You start to climb
the ranks, and a more adept gladiator comes out of the woodwork (a strange place to
lurk, but much favored) and creams you.
NEWT GINGRICH (5-3399) (90-32-0,190) of PARTY ANIMALS challenged TINY TIM (60-
6042) (29-7-1,200) of CRAZY CREEPS. Up 10. NEWT GINGRICH viciously subdued TINY TIM
in a crowd pleasing 2 minute Challenge brawl. So much for Tim's shy advances. Not
the Tiny One's kind of party.
RAVISHING REDBUD (52-3197) (38-13-0,296) of FLOWER GIRLS challenged BLOODBATH
(60-704) (69-59-2,234) of BASKET WEAVING 101. Down 62, the first and only
downchallenge here today. (You'd think this was Andorak, except that they
downchallenge all the time.) RAVISHING REDBUD was savagely defeated by BLOODBATH in
a 4 minute Challenge melee. This is what you get, Redbud. No victory for the
careless.

(47-48-2,210) of COMMON JOE'S. Up 1. DAIRY QUEEN bested PAT in a crowd pleasing 4
minute gruesome Challenge fight. I've never before seen someone subdued by
overpowering with soft-serve ice cream before. The Infirmary says he went into
hypothermic shock.
