WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
Khirza the cat-woman* leaped from the lamppost to Phetmolge's shoulders and from
there to the spar holding up the sign that said:
TALAHYA MUNICIPAL DOCK
No Admittance Without a Ticket.
Keep Hands and Feet Out of the Water.
She looked around as though checking for some other alternative to solid ground,
grinned toothily at her trollish friend, and said, "I always feel special when I see
this sign, 'cause WE can get in without tickets."
"If that's what it takes," Phetmolge responded with a slight smile. He gestured
with the small porcelain box that he was holding and said, "I don't think this is big
enough to heat the boiler."
He was referring to the Naiad's Nightmare (publicly known as the Naiad's Dream),
their steam-powered barge that had originally relied on a fire elemental to keep its
boiler hot. The creature had quit when all the magical trouble had started on the
Isle, temporarily grounding the Nightie. Finally, in exchange for informing Khirza's
wizard friend of a source of the priceless magical ingredient "soy," they had gotten
an artifact that might solve their power problem.
"Sure it is!" Khirza responded, glancing sharply to the side and down and
suddenly pouncing counterclockwise in an effort to catch her tail. "It'll work,
don't worry. Ouch!"
Attributing this judgement to nothing more than his friend's natural optimism,
Phetmolge continued to worry.
The Nightie stirred faintly in her moorings like a woman disturbed by an
unpleasant dream. Gigantic next to the fishing boats on either side of her, an
ungainly-looking craft with two big paddlewheels on her sides and a superstructure
that looked distinctly homemade, she gained an even more forlorn air due to the black
tarpaulin shrouds that covered most of her above-deck features. She rested outside
the covered and warded dock; they had to walk down a side platform and through a
magical shield to get aboard her. Mist crawled from her hatches and ports. They
walked with hands on hilts, in case there was more than mist.
"Think the hull glyphs are still protecting her?" Phetmolge muttered.
"Sure," Khirza said faintly. She looked around with quick motions. Above the
collar of her leather jerkin, the spotted fur bristled outward from her neck. The
furless tip of her nose, which so accurately reflected her mood, was crimson. "We
should have come to see her more often."
"Yes, we should have."
Khirza hopped down from the gangplank onto the deck, did a backbend and
thoughtfully folded one knee to touch her chest, then extended that foot to the deck
by her hands, followed it over, and came up standing again. "On the brighter side,
the bilge rats have probably been multiplying. Fun!"
"Bilge rats at the very least," Phetmolge agreed. He drew his weapon -- not his
usual hammer but a greatsword. He might not wield a blade well enough to win in the
arena, but he was more than competent with it in the normal course of life. "I guess
we'd better do a walk-through before we work on the engine."
The Naiad's Nightmare had magical glyphs on her hull to repel any creatures of
the lake, but as they searched the boat they became aware that some of these glyphs
had indeed weakened. Thumps and chitters and slithering sounds confirmed that
wildlife from the Lake of Mists had taken up residence aboard the Nightie. Phetmolge
took the upper deck, whipping tarps off passenger seats and surprising half a dozen
amphibians the size of foxes, which waddled away but not fast enough to escape the
reach of his long arm and longer blade. He flung their little bodies into the water,
where they floated a moment before sinking. After the third one, something
apparently realized that appetizers were being served, because the rest of the
corpses were snatched underwater the moment they hit. Khirza, searching the main
deck, found a nest of snakes with humanlike heads; she dispatched them quickly. Then
the two partners joined forces to go belowdecks.
Phetmolge led the way down the stair into darkness, his sword before him.
"We'll need to get your wizard friend out to refresh those glyphs," he said. "Or do
you have to have the boat in drydock to do that?"
"Don't know," the cat-woman said. "Weed!"
Phetmolge ducked as a loop of slimy vegetation reached for his head. They
battled it for a while, noses wrinkled against the pungent smell of rotting spinach.
When they were done, the plant had been extracted from its overhead compartment and
lay heaped on the floor like a bundle of rags. It had a head of sorts, which looked
like brown lettuce.
"You eat salad, don't you?" Khirza said, kicking at it.
Phetmolge gave her a pained smile.
They cleared out the staterooms and galley -- it wasn't too bad, the glyphs were
obviously still working to some extent -- and then lit a lantern and went down the
next level to the engine room.
"I've been waiting for you," said the long-legged blonde who lay half-naked on
the nest of ropes next to the engine. Lips curving in a luscious red smile, she
crooked her pale finger and beckoned to Phetmolge. "Come here, handsome."
"Siren!" Khirza said, advancing with her scimitar up. "That's a bad critter!
Don't listen to her, big guy!"
"That's not a siren," said Phetmolge. "I don't know what she is, but she's not
a siren. She's lonely." He strode forward, never taking his eyes from the smiling
gaze of the mysterious woman.
Khirza darted in front of him, waving her hands in front of his face to break
the locked gaze. "Remember our course in lake safety? The kiss that drowns! Dead
boyfriends underwater! Come ON, Phetmolge, she called you handsome!"
The blonde rose from her couch of ropes. "Ever since we met at the police
station I have known that you would come to help me," she said.
"What?" said the trollish gladiator.
"You got my note," said the blonde.
"You're getting mail from sirens?" Khirza said, looking bewildered.
"Had we met under other circumstances, I could have fallen in love with you,"
said the blonde.
"Not likely," Phetmolge responded. "Ma'am, I think you're mistaking me for
someone else... Who are you?"
She looked blankly at him as though trying to remember. Then -- "Jolane," she
said. "I'm Jolane."

THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Champion of the Horn
Again I scrape by with a win and find myself holding this horn. I have blown it
(in private) but am not yet able to make anything better than rude noises with it.
Deanjli, you are a very tough opponent and you almost beat me. With any luck,
you'll do it next time you get the chance.
I'm still looking for someone with a quest. If nobody speaks up next turn, then
my partner Khirza and I will have to quest for the lake shore. Somebody has to
restore reliable transit to and from the Isle, that's for sure. If anyone else
doesn't have a quest of their own and would like to be busy, you're welcome to come
along. Just let us know by the next round of fights, and be prepared to fight a lot
of monsters.
I don't know who I'll be fighting this turn. Some of my teammates are planning
to challenge this time, but I can't without down-challenging. Not that I think down-
challenging is always a dishonorable thing, but somehow I don't like to do it. There
are five warriors eligible to challenge me, all from different teams. I wonder if
any of them have the guts?
That's all. See you on the sands.
Phetmolge
REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
The Gladiatorial Commission's got a heck of a nerve! They sent a couple of
wizards over here last week to examine our Champion of the Horn. I guess somebody
raised the race question with 'em, but it wasn't me. Must've been some disgruntled
fan. Anyway, they came, and I've got their report here. They say he's not a Troll.
Oh, sure, he LOOKS like a Troll, but they swear that their zoologists couldn't have
been that far wrong in describing Trolls officially as only marginally sentient.
Their decision: Phetmolge is not a Ghean Troll. Either he's from some other world
that set up a colony of trolls here somewhere (and they hope to find them and add
them to the tax rolls), or he's a Shew under a curse. I confidently await
Phetmolge's response to this judgment.
In more official, fight-related type business, The Dragon Fist was avoided by
Split Infinity 2. And who can blame them? Have you ever strolled past the Dragon
Fist's guildhouse? Phew! Maybe we should send the wizards to examine them for
suspect species, eh?
Alyahoodi was most challenged, which doesn't mean a heck of a lot, since we
didn't have many challenges. He may have gotten two.
Twenty-four fights is pathetic, but I suppose it could be worse if we barred the
standbys. Five standbys fought. Five fights were the result of successful
challenges, but not the title match. Oh, well. The longest fight was five minutes.
Nobody died, though some were embarrassed.
Without further pre-fight ado (I will stick in a bunch of ado during the fight
notes), here we go.
DAMORETH STENN (65-6105) (25-25-0,40) of SAND DANCERS fought CAPTURED PIRATE
KING (107-2) (0-0-0,30) of Miscellaneous Persons. DAMORETH STENN overpowered
CAPTURED PIRATE KING in a 1 minute one-sided bout. It's amazing the number of
Captured Pirate Kings we have here on the Isle. They must be breeding. Or maybe
they're all, what's the word, dopplegangers? Whatever. We can't seem to get rid of
the fellows.
SARGEN DENJO (74-2723) (31-13-0,56) of SAND DANCERS fought UNEMPLOYED PERSON
(107-5) (0-0-0,70) of Miscellaneous Persons. SARGEN DENJO was overpowered by
UNEMPLOYED PERSON in a 1 minute uneven fight. Do you notice something funny about
this fight? Note that Sargen Denjo is not a BAD fighter, but the Unemployeed Person
beat him easily ("uneven" means he beat him easily, right?). Therefore the
Unemployed Person must be a GOOD fighter. Why isn't he on somebody's team or in
somebody's army? This is unreasonable.
SELA TYL VARAN (74-2897) (16-18-0,55) of SAND DANCERS fought UNEMPLOYED PERSON
(107-5) (0-0-0,70) of Miscellaneous Persons. SELA TYL VARAN was demolished by
UNEMPLOYED PERSON in a 1 minute one-sided fight. Either it's the same Unemployed
Person, or ALL the deadbeats around here are good fighters. It's enough to make you
think, isn't it?
DARLINA (74-2995) (18-12-2,50) of SAND DANCERS fought CAPTURED PIRATE KING (107-
2) (0-0-0,30) of Miscellaneous Persons. DARLINA viciously subdued CAPTURED PIRATE
KING in a crowd pleasing 1 minute gory fray. Another Pirate King. I told you they
were multiplying. And the crowd doesn't like them; the crowd enjoys seeing them
defeated gorily.
ZHAL (77-1456) (29-45-0,20) of SAND DANCERS fought VALLANT (38-4151) (24-7-1,71)
of BLENDING ENTHRONED. ZHAL was subdued by VALLANT in an action packed 1 minute
bout. Ah, two managed (though I shouldn't say "managed" about a Sand Dancer, I
suppose) warriors fight. We might, if we felt so inclined, call this our first real
fight of the day. No doubt the four Sand Dancers who preceded him on the sands would
argue that point, but tough. I'm the spy reporter, and I get to say. By this loss
(we all knew he would lose, didn't we?), Zhal remains the bottom-ranked warrior in
Lirin Kiv. An interesting note is that the SEVEN bottom-ranked active warriors are
all Sand Dancers. Greater love (or something) hath no manager than to run his puds
deliberately so people have "real" warriors to beat. (I say "real" because that
designation is in question.)
XARA (78-2254) (18-10-0,29) of SAND DANCERS fought TREMERE (9-4915) (21-0-0,63)
of DARK TOADS. XARA was overpowered by TREMERE in a 1 minute uneven fight. No
surprise here. This guy Tremere comes to us with an undefeated regular-arena record,
and the fact that he comes from a small arena with less competition than many others
does not diminish is accomplishment. It just makes it comprehensible. Nobody
expected Xara to beat him.
JON SNOW (78-2389) (14-0-1,43) of DARK TOADS fought TIRYA (46-3594) (17-23-0,67)
of SAND DANCERS. JON SNOW overpowered TIRYA in a crowd pleasing 1 minute mismatched
conflict. A soulmate to Tremere, obviously. TigToad is a great man. To have TWO
undefeated warriors on the Isle simultaneously! He's a lucky man, too, because we
all know that luck IS a factor.
CORT NIGHTJEWEL (78-196) (43-55-0,172) of THE DRAGON FIST fought I TOL'YA THE
PUN (65-2154) (71-118-1,149) of GENERAL MAYHEM. CORT NIGHTJEWEL was subdued by I
TOL'YA THE PUN in an exciting 5 minute brutal bout. This was our longest fight,
which is about all that distinguishes it from the rest. Neither of these warriors
talks, even if grossly insulted, so who cares about 'em? Okay, not GROSSLY insulted,
maybe, but rudely at least.
NAPPER LEON (65-2153) (95-137-1,189) of GENERAL MAYHEM fought THE QUICKLING (70-
1669) (43-95-2,167) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. NAPPER LEON devastated THE QUICKLING in a
popular 1 minute brutal mismatched brawl. Have you noticed that the Quickling is no
good in a quick fight? Or a slow fight, but that's another story. Even an antique
(genuine, I have seen his papers, Napper dates from the previous century) can defeat
him.
RUSTLING BREEZE (33-6478) (25-21-1,193) of THE WASTING FIELD fought ZALMARDARIN
(78-312) (36-65-2,207) of THE DRAGON FIST. RUSTLING BREEZE overpowered ZALMARDARIN
in an action packed 1 minute uneven struggle. Isn't it amazing how much action can
be packed into a minute? I think they must use some kind of special equipment, a
condenser, perhaps.
DEBATOR (76-1233) (111-121-5,185) of CREW MONIKER fought TAIRIKIA (51-4247) (56-
62-0,178) of SAND DANCERS. DEBATOR defeated TAIRIKIA in a 1 minute duel. Some
people are just no good at arguing with words. And, of course, respect for your
elders can be a handicap.
ROBERTO LEATHAM (65-6232) (24-20-1,193) of SPLIT INFINITY fought IT'S A BOY (78-
841) (76-70-3,170) of BAD NEWS. ROBERTO LEATHAM was viciously subdued by IT'S A BOY
in a crowd pleasing 1 minute bout. If only Boy hadn't left his toy wagon on the
stairs, things might have come out differently. Or not, of course. One can never
tell. But I would definitely recommend that Roberto watch himself on the stairs.
DARKMOON BLACKFELL (75-862) (67-57-2,208) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought TELGOR (107-
27) (0-0-0,200) of Miscellaneous Persons. DARKMOON BLACKFELL was viciously subdued
by TELGOR in an exciting 1 minute contest. Managers, look on this as an example of
what happens when you neglect your warriors! This Darkmoon used to be darned good,
but if his manager has even looked at him in months, it's a surprise to me. And you
see what happens, he loses fights he should win.
NIGHTCAP (74-2745) (50-72-0,201) of DARKLINGS fought DEADBOLT (70-1664) (64-81-
2,174) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. NIGHTCAP was subdued by DEADBOLT in a crowd pleasing 4
minute match. Tsk. Four minutes, Nightcap, and you still lost? What were you
thinking of as you stood out there and let him batter you around the arena?
BAT (74-2742) (57-66-1,210) of DARKLINGS fought DEANJLI TYL RHU (76-1970) (69-
55-0,196) of SAND DANCERS. BAT was overpowered by DEANJLI TYL RHU in a popular 1
minute one-sided melee. I look for Deanjli to be Inducted at the next Split. This
woman is HOT. Of course, at this season we're ALL hot....
NIGHTFALL (74-2421) (73-86-2,188) of DARKLINGS fought TORYN TYL DAGEDA (74-2777)
(53-42-4,191) of SAND DANCERS. NIGHTFALL vanquished TORYN TYL DAGEDA in a 1 minute
one-sided fight. Ah, that's the way it goes. Once you start losing fights, Toryn,
you lose them over and over again. You'll have to practice hard and maybe even
wangle a strategy change to beat this insidious losing streak.
EYES IN FLOWER (65-2960) (83-67-1,220) of GENERAL MAYHEM fought SMOLDER DARKSUN
(78-513) (52-50-0,182) of THE DRAGON FIST. EYES IN FLOWER won victory over SMOLDER
DARKSUN in a popular 2 minute gruesome duel. The gruesome part was interesting, but
that's the best I have to say about it.
TRAM SATANS BLOOD (65-1106) (56-51-2,222) of SANGUINE SAINTS fought CYLADIA (51-
1122) (81-94-0,197) of SKAITHVARN. TRAM SATANS BLOOD overpowered CYLADIA in an
action packed 3 minute uneven melee. Bad show, Cyladia! You can't even beat a blind
man in the arena? Yes, it's true. You wouldn't have guessed, would you? Tram's
blind. It doesn't seem to be a handicap for him, and he's not the only blind
gladiator here on the Isle. Amazing, eh?
Ah, the challenge matches!
SHYLOCK (75-2602) (28-17-1,179) of DARK TOADS challenged ALYAHOODI (11-2219)
(45-63-1,185) of HOLY SLAUGHTER. Up 6. SHYLOCK bested ALYAHOODI in a popular 4
minute Challenge duel. He who challenges well wins fights and skills and all kinds
of good things, such as women sending him scented notes suggesting assignations and
financial planners offering to turn his purse into a fortune.
BLEYS (82-13278) (21-8-2,195) of TOADS OF AMBER challenged KHORA THE SMALL (78-
519) (93-128-3,215) of SAND DANCERS. Up 20. BLEYS was defeated by KHORA THE SMALL
in a crowd pleasing 1 minute Challenge match. A bold challenge by Bleys and a
vigorous response by Khora the Small and Determined. But she's not going to get the
top basher's spot so long as Phetmolge holds the Horn. Perhaps another goal is in
order?
WINSTON (75-2600) (36-11-0,181) of DARK TOADS challenged JAMMIES (74-2829) (50-
45-1,205) of DARKLINGS. Up 24. WINSTON was viciously subdued by JAMMIES in a crowd
pleasing 3 minute Challenge brawl. Fashionistas take note of Jammies' garb. NOT
pajamas, of course, but today's sequined leotard is especially, um, eye-catching.
BRAND (82-13289) (10-6-1,103) of TOADS OF AMBER III TV challenged KYRLANIA (70-
2327) (54-72-1,136) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 33. BRAND narrowly defeated KYRLANIA in
an exciting 2 minute gory Challenge melee. Ah, a TV challenge. We may not have many
here (only two in use today), but proportionately, we're doing quite well in that
respect. Good job, Brand.
STILE (65-5941) (31-21-1,200) of SPLIT INFINITY 2 TV challenged NIGHTINGALE (74-
2423) (76-83-2,279) of DARKLINGS. Up 79. STILE bested NIGHTINGALE in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute gruesome Challenge fight. Our other TV challenge. You know, the
phrasing on these Commission notes is odd. Have you noticed? It's equally likely
that the challenge itself was gruesome as that the fight was. And, of course,
Nightingale may well feel that the challenge was at best dire.
And for the Horn: PHETMOLGE (37-1555) (130-135-1,296) of UP TO NO GOOD fought
TALON WARSMITH (99-101) (49-76-7,230) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. PHETMOLGE devastated TALON
WARSMITH in a 1 minute mismatched Title match. Good show, Phetmolge! And good luck
with your nightmare, or is it a boat?

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Xara -- I assure you, I meant no permanent discomfort. It is a joy to see you up
and around again so soon. -- Brand
Eyes in Flower -- Wow...that was a good fight. I am suitably impressed. -- Stile
Define "suitably."
The Quickling -- That was an unexpected twist. -- Shylock
Some people like lime better than lemon, but it does surprise 'em.
Sela Tyl Varan -- Way to show that R.O.U.S. who's boss! There is no room for those
cretins on our sands. -- TigToad
What we really need to deal with the Rats Of Unusual Size is Very Big Cats.
Deanjli tyl Rhu -- That was a really good try. You withstood several blows from me,
and hurt me badly in return. But you lost your nerve there at the end. Most people,
I have noticed, want to stop fighting as soon as they see some portion of their
anatomy all discolored and squishy with the bones crushed inside it. The ones who do
best against me either are too quick to get hit, or too berserk to glance at their
own wounds. -- Phetmolge
If anyone is interested, I fought a stand-in (the Blacksmith). He wasn't very tough.
I think the local folk have been misled, by watching Phetmolge, into supposing that
the bashing style has a good chance of winning. -- Nightingale
Debator -- You fell down at the start of the fight, so what could I do but keep
cutting you up. Do you know there are some cultures, Andorians for example, where it
is thought to be dishonorable to keep fighting someone who's fallen down? I don't
get it. Do you? -- Jammies
And then again, there are some warriors who keep hitting back even when they're
on the ground, so you can't go by "fallen down" as a sign to stop fighting.
Tairikia -- I thought we'd be better matched than that. Well, guess you just had a
bad day. -- Bat
Cort Nightjewel -- Cool name. Who was that in the audience cheering you on after
you'd already surrendered? Your mom? -- Nightcap
What good is a cool name when the warrior is basically a zombie?
Smolder Darksun -- Nice armor, but I was able to slip through the cracks often
enough, wasn't I? I think my experience with metal sculpting helped. -- Cyladia
P.S. I enjoyed our drink together. Let's do it again soon.
Sundown -- You looked good for a little bit there, but I think that head hit early in
the fight slowed you down. Better luck, eh? -- Nightfall
7-0. The Darklings and their guildmates had a 7-0 turn. That's just ridiculous.
It's almost as silly as the Sand Dancers doing it! Somebody isn't trying! -- the
Rogue She-Puppy of the Galaxy, mgr. Darklings et al
Phetmolge -- How tedious. I didn't really want to fight you--you're too big, and I
bet that skin counts as a couple of extra armor classes. Oh, well. -- Deanjli tyl
Rhu
Tram Satans Blood -- (sigh) I wasn't paying attention, and it cost me. Good work.
-- Toryn tyl Dageda
Bat -- Remind me never to fall into Greywand's hands again. What a cold-hearted
peach she is. -- Tairikia
You only just now realized this?
It's a Boy -- No, it's a greasy spot on the floor, and that is as it should be. --
Khora the Small but Determined
Brand -- Listen, you! I didn't NEED that. -- Tirya
Only Zhal could lose to a Captured Pirate King and teach five skills. He DESERVES
the bottom spot. -- Deanjli
You know what they say: :It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it."
Nobody ever explained to me WHY somebody's got to do it, but that is what they
say.
Vallant -- (grimly) I hope you appreciated that. -- Darlina, wishing she'd drawn a
standby
And three wins and another loss to standbys. Looks to me like some of the low-ranked
warriors on this crew should retire again. If we hit so many standbys this time,
I'll be shutting down three or four of them. -- Li Dan
Congratulations to you, Stile! -- All the Sand Dancers

To All Managers -- I would like to take this time to announce that my alliance, The
Association, is no more. Due to the dead weight managers of the alliance and their
lack of participation, DarkSpirit and I have formed a new alliance: The Firm. We
have taken on two members so far and are looking for a few more. If you would like
to find out more about The Firm, you can diplo Dark Spirit, Unknowns XX in arena 15
or myself, Sungod, Sadists F2FII in arena 62.

Citizens of Alastari, a bright dawn has risen. While you slept, a pernicious
force has entered the once-fair City of Aruak. It fought alongside their treasured
warriors, it drank with their fans, and it slept with their women. Now the masks are
coming off.
Warriors, be afraid...be very afraid. After years of Andorian managers ranting
that Aruak is the safest city in Alastari, the Frothingslosh Syndicate has selected
Aruak City as the home for its next epic 'contest'--Murder by Numbers II. Our spies
have selected the warriors for extermination, and the executioners have had several
months to prepare. Now a new age of darkness will descend upon Aruak, as the
Syndicate and its allies bring an entirely new level of competition to the arena!
Downchallenges! Assassinations! Small poodles as hors d'oeuvres!
The Murder by Numbers II 'rules' will be announced next cycle. However, we
invite all managers, from all corners of Alastari, to come to Aruak City and take
part...in one way or another. Help defend the honor of a long heralded haven for the
pure, or join the forces of change in their siege of the ice-cream and cake
stronghold of the Dukes of Nerf-Dueling!
This exercise is not for either the faint of heart or the weak willed. Blood
will flow, brains will leak, and beer will be chugged. Either way, we welcome you
with open arms and gleaming blades.
This public service announcement has been brought to you by Frothingslosh Epic
Contests (tm), the number 86, and the letter 'K'.
The Frothingslosh Syndicate

* * * *The Third Annual Turf War* * * *
Yes, it's time again for alliances to go to war! TW3 will be held in DM 47
(North Fork) at a date to be specified later--right after Crip's Incomprehensible
Contest is over...but I'm sure everyone wants to get their teams there soon! Here
are the rules:
1. Each alliance must have a leader declare the arrival of his alliance. The leader
will be responsible for verifying any and all teams/managers who declare to the
alliance he/she is leading.
2. Each manager, team declaring for the contest must have approval of the leader,
donate one Roll-up Certificate ($5) to the prize pot (send it to me by diplo, by
snail, or a note to customer service), and declare his/her team by diplo, p-ad or
snail.
3. Each team may declare one warrior as champion. All points scored by a champ are
double!
4. Prizes are as follows (mostly...there WILL be some things added as the prize pot
grows with entry donations--this list is not final!)
* Highest scoring alliance -- Rename Arena 47 for a period of 6 months, one half
of the total prize pot donated; roll-up certs.
* The Alliance with the most returns from the DA will get to re-name the DA
monsters for a period of 6 months.
* The alliance with the most warriors listed as style masters will get to pick
the Alastari city/arena to host the next Grand Tournament.
* The warrior with the most front page honors/awards will have the Arenamaster
named after him for a period of 6 months.
* The Alliance with the most front page Honors/Awards will have the honor of
picking the *slow* arena to host the Fifth Annual Turf War.
* The team with the most listings as Style Master will find out the favorites of
one of their warriors.
* The warrior with the most listings as Style Master will fight at my expense
for five turns (I will transfer to the manager's account).
* The Alliance with the most kills will be able to re-name the stand-in warriors
for a period of 6 months.
* The warrior that scores the most total points will fight at my expense for 5
turns (I will transfer $7.50 to the manager's account).
* The team that scores the most total points will receive an extra share of
roll-up certs from the prize pot.
There may be more categories to come, and the prize pot still has to be
divided...I'm open to category/prize ideas--and further donations to the prize pot.
The contest will run for *TEN* turns; prizes will be awarded at the end of the
11th turn.
Scoring will be as follows:
* 5 points per fight, doubled for each of the following conditions met:
-- Two Alliance -- Champion
-- Challenge -- Two Champions
-- Bloodfeud -- Challenger losing
-- Kill
(Note: DA losses are exempt, but DA wins will be *tripled*!!! Ex: Happy
Slasher goes to the DA and dies, no points are lost. If he wins, his team scores 60
points! If he was a champ, he scores 120 points!)
Use the following chart to calculate scores:
Conditions Met: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Points Per Fight: 5 10 20 40 80 160 320 640
* Awards/Honors and Style Masters will each be awarded points also. Find the total
number of each (do note add Awards and Style Masters together) and consult the graph
below. Champs that score an award or style master count as two.
1 -- 5 7 -- 320
2 -- 10 8 -- 640
3 -- 20 9 -- 1280
4 -- 40 10 -- 2560
5 -- 80 11 -- 5280
6 -- 100 (x2 for each extra)
Note -- These categories *count as "triple"*--they will be figured for each team,
*AND* again for each alliance *as well as* for each warrior!
* Each and every mention in the Spy Report is worth 5 points...period.
* TVs will be scored on the same scale as Awards/Style Masters, but the total points
will be x10. TC's will be scored as TV's, but x10 more.
Number of TV/TC's Points Scored (TV/TC)
1 50/ 500
2 100/1000
3 200/2000
4 400/4000
+ x2/ x2 (for each extra)
Each alliance will start with 5000 points, scores for *fights* will be added to
the winner's total *AND* deducted from the losers.
Come one and all, defend your turf and the honor of your alliance...or your
own!

Assurnasirbanipal invites you to Talcama to participate in the third BATTLE
ROYAL contest. It is a Delarquan contest so brutal that even some of Talcama's most
notable managers will refuse to participate. The rules are simpler than any other
contest: You may not avoid any other contest team. There are no silly rules for who
can and can't compete. Any team in Talcama is eligible to compete. The scoring is
also quite simple (+1 for a win, +1 for a kill (+1 for the win), -1 for a loss) and
the first team to reach 25 points is the winner.
Scoring will be live--the results for the turn posted in the newsletter. The
winner will be able to fight their contest team in Talcama for free for 6 months but
more importantly will win a contest against some of the best managers who play the
game in one of the hardest contests in the game.
First turn for BATTLE ROYAL 3 is Talcama Turn 465, which is due August 30.
