REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Some days here the weather is hotter than the hinges of the place you don't want
to go, and other days it's worse. This is one of the not-worse days, but a little.
Sky like the inside of an oven--I've never seen one of those "brassy skies," have
you? Generally blue or white, or maybe gray, but not gray when it's hot. Blue is
bad, white is worse. Today it's striped. What should one wear to compliment a blue-
and-white striped sky? An umbrella. And a mister. As in, a thing that makes mist,
not a guy. I'm not Debby, or Desiree either, for that matter.
Cheysuli & Lir was most challenged by Slytherin House. Both those teams are
from Dayla Kiv, so they must know what they're avoiding, hmm?
Nobody was most challenged, and since only two challenges went through, I can
guess why. No challenge from or to the Horn. No column from the guy with the title,
and I want to mention here that the steward is not going to release the Horn into
Talon Warsmith's hands UNTIL he writes a column. Our steward is a stubborn old man,
and then some. His (the steward's) name is Terregen ten Dar, if you want to address
a comment to him on this topic. That would require writing a personal.
Sixteen fights, two challenge matches, two standbys, no deaths. The longest
fight was four minutes. Maybe we should offer to host a scumfest here? If we can't
have lots of fights, maybe we could have the longest ones around. Actually, this
would be a good place, since this and Darkholm are the only two ADM "arenas" on the
Isle that don't hold fights up in Talahya's physcial arena. Gets kinda crowded up
there, and when they've got Andorak, Talahya, Crysalis, Primus, and Free Blades
running one after the other over a mere four days, well, crowded doesn't even begin
to describe it. Back to back fights, day and night, no rest for the staff. It's
hard.
Enough of that, here's our fights.
DARLINA (74-2995) (29-22-2,66) of SAND DANCERS fought CAPTURED PIRATE KING (107-
2) (0-0-0,30) of Various Bums. DARLINA vanquished CAPTURED PIRATE KING in a 1 minute
one-sided fray. It's good to know that Darlina is aware of the protocol where
Catpured Pirate Kings are concerned. "Vanquished," not "defeated" or "subdued," you
will note. Captured Pirate Kings have their pride.
WAIS (65-6447) (15-22-0,39) of DARK TOADS fought GISELLA (74-2704) (17-7-0,60)
of CHEYSULI & LIR. WAIS lost to GISELLA in a crowd pleasing 3 minute bout. The
burning question here is, "Did Gisella take the jewel from Wais's head? Or not?"
Inquiring minds want to know.
TIRYA (46-3594) (25-36-0,62) of SAND DANCERS fought THOMAS (82-14150) (3-6-0,46)
of TOADS OF KRONDUR II. TIRYA overpowered THOMAS in a popular 1 minute mismatched
conflict. Tough going, Thomas, but it looks like Tirya is hoping to reclaim a
winning record. Or, as the bookies say, "Fat chance."
AMPLITUR (65-6440) (20-5-1,163) of DARK TOADS fought KING LOVE (40-3748) (22-20-
2,123) of SUNNYLAND. AMPLITUR demolished KING LOVE in a 1 minute mismatched match.
In Amplitur we see another jewel-in-the-head Toad, but this time a victorious one.
Finest kind, victorious. Everyone should get a chance at that. It's such a rush,
you know?
SHYLOCK (75-2602) (33-33-1,169) of DARK TOADS fought THE QUICKLING (70-1669)
(47-115-2,141) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. SHYLOCK was bested by THE QUICKLING in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute conflict. Ah, tough luck for Shylock. Down into losing-record-
hood, and The Quickling can be counted on to remain silent. One of those weak,
silent types. Yes, I know he beat you, but with that record... well, "weak and
silent."
TORYN TYL DAGEDA (74-2777) (59-57-4,155) of SAND DANCERS fought ZALMARDARIN (78-
312) (44-82-3,130) of THE DRAGON FIST. TORYN TYL DAGEDA savagely defeated
ZALMARDARIN in an exciting 2 minute brutal fight. Yep, this is old "savage is my
middle name": Toryn Savage Daughter of the Dagedai. And if she doesn't like it, she
should soft-pedal the savagery.
WINSTON (75-2600) (45-20-0,205) of DARK TOADS fought CORT NIGHTJEWEL (78-196)
(50-72-0,192) of THE DRAGON FIST. WINSTON was vanquished by CORT NIGHTJEWEL in an
exciting 2 minute one-sided fight. Ah, hard luck for you, too, Winston. But given
the experience differential, what can you expect, eh? I hope you learned a lot.
DARKMOON BLACKFELL (75-862) (82-67-3,210) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought CYLADIA (51-
1122) (91-105-0,166) of SKAITHVARN. DARKMOON BLACKFELL was viciously subdued by
CYLADIA in a popular 2 minute duel. Now, Cyladia is not someone I'd have expected to
show vicious. Maybe it's an age thing; I've heard people get less patient as they
get older.
JAMMIES (74-2829) (60-56-1,186) of DARKLINGS fought CLOTTO (107-25) (0-0-0,181)
of Various Bums. JAMMIES was handily defeated by CLOTTO in a 1 minute uneven melee.
Ooooh, that's gotta smart! Pajama Golem Brought Low by Standby. Crowd Disappointed.
Bookies Furious. Clotto Buying for Everybody at Red Sands.
TREMERE (9-4915) (33-8-0,189) of DARK TOADS fought DEADBOLT (70-1664) (73-96-
2,203) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. TREMERE was bested by DEADBOLT in a popular 3 minute
competition. It's heck, isn't it, Tremere, when a guy comes along with only about
four times your fights showing and wipes the sands with you. Some days it just
doesn't pay to get up in the morning.
NIGHTCAP (74-2745) (61-82-0,182) of DARKLINGS fought SMOLDER DARKSUN (78-513)
(66-61-3,197) of THE DRAGON FIST. NIGHTCAP was defeated by SMOLDER DARKSUN in an
exciting 4 minute struggle. Our longest fight, which was marked by the aroma of
smoldering nightcaps. Phew! And we're not talking cotton here, either. Probably
polyester.
NIGHTFALL (74-2421) (90-90-3,232) of DARKLINGS fought ZALGOR PRIGG (82-15204)
(25-16-0,181) of MUTANT LEAGUE II. NIGHTFALL was bested by ZALGOR PRIGG in an action
packed 1 minute brawl. Do you suppose that changing a name would change one's luck?
Because Nightfall (who secretly yearns to be known as Moonrise) has just fallen into
lossing-record-hood.
TAIRIKIA (51-4247) (67-72-0,220) of SAND DANCERS fought BAT (74-2742) (72-72-
1,231) of DARKLINGS. TAIRIKIA was overpowered by BAT in a 2 minute one-sided fight.
Which is tough for Tairikia, but Bat rises hereby into a winning record. Everything
has SOME kind of silver lining. And if Bat continues his silent streak, at least she
won't have to listen to him making comments about her name.
And our two challenge matches:
VINCENT CRABBE (74-3498) (23-14-2,87) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE challenged DAMORETH
STENN (65-6105) (37-34-0,99) of SAND DANCERS. Up 12. VINCENT CRABBE was subdued by
DAMORETH STENN in an exciting 2 minute Challenge melee. Oops! There's Stenn with
ANOTHER WIN! Mantor, is he NEVER going to drop into the ranks of the losers? This
seems perverse.
TOM RIDDLE (74-3501) (26-10-2,164) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE challenged KYRLANIA (70-
2327) (59-91-1,198) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 34. TOM RIDDLE was devastated by
KYRLANIA in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. Ouch for Tom, but experience does
make a difference, even when the manager isn't paying attention.
And for the Horn (nominally, at least):
TALON WARSMITH (99-101) (62-87-8,238) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought KHORA THE SMALL
(78-519) (107-135-3,220) of SAND DANCERS. TALON WARSMITH savagely defeated KHORA THE
SMALL in a 2 minute Title duel. Which has left Khora really, really annoyed.

Larkin -- Okay, I admit I was a little miffed about all of the complaints about how
'few' teams we are running in here right now, but I didn't want to lose our spy
reporter, either! -- TigToad
Yeah, well, I get miffed when the Commission talks about shutting us down. As
to the spy reporter stuff, even if Koris Zarloff would come here, which he
won't, the manager who wanted him is gone, so it's moot. -- Larkin
All -- I've been making a ton of challenges and losing a ton of fights. I'm going to
become a bit more lazy and see if my fortunes improve. -- TigToad
Seems worth a try. Good luck with it.
Lirin -Kiv - I will be moving Lord Protectors Fengar II and Tempus to another arena
to pursue other goals. I hope we have added a little to the history of Lirin Kiv and
I hope this arena fares well. Strong steel and salute. -- The Icelord
Inigo Montoya -- That was a bold attempt, and I salute you for it. Some managers
here, at least, care about their warriors. Good! -- Tairikia
Wais -- Ah, good! A win. I really needed a win. -- Tirya
Thomas -- Odd, you don't look like a toad. Perahps you're a prince, formerly under
enchantment, who's been kissed by a princess? -- Darlina
Jammies -- Stupid pajama golem. -- Khora the Small
Allah -- I believe more dodging is called for. -- Toryn tyl Dageda
TigToad -- I have heard the Commission speculate more than once on the advisability
of merging this arena with Free Blades. It isn't just scare-mongering on Larkin's
part. -- Li Dan
Inigo -- It'll pass. -- Deanjli tyl Rhu
P.S. Look at our experience difference and it won't be surprising.

DEATH FEST
The ferocious ghosts of former glories whispered across the wind swept sands of
DM 59; agonizing incessantly due to the diminutive demise of the Delarq arena known
as Illis.
Tattered banners and forgotten memories wailed in the wind for a dynamic death
march to dawn once more upon the blood stained sands of the Delarq slow arena.
The distant call crying for a declaration of restoration amidst the ruin of the
all but forgotten Delarq arena carried to the far corners of Alastari; drawing the
Devious, the Diabolical, the Dangerous and the Down Challenging to cross blades and
wage warfare among an assemblage of new stables managed by the Known and Unknown;
willing to spill fresh blood, while carving their destiny during 15 Rounds of contest
driven combat to be known as the "Illis Incredibly Diabolical Delarq Death Fest".
A lone cloaked figure huddled by lamplight in a remote outpost near the
crossroads of ElseWhere and ElseWhen; feverishly formulating the foundational
framework for the dawning of the Delarq Death Fest in DM 59, complete with
Gladiatorial Commission sanctioned prizes to promote the growing thirst for a Delarq
Slow Arena Death Festival.
Delarq Death Fest Opening Round debuts the first turn immediately following the
Summer 2004 F2F Tourney and continues through the completion of 15 consecutive
rounds.
Death Fest points are Won or Lost ONLY in the DM 59 Delarq Slow Arena [Tourneys
DO NOT Add or Subtract from the Death Fest Point Scoring System]:
Death Fest Scoring Format:
Win =3D +2 pts
Loss =3D -1 pt
Kill =3D +5 pts [in addition to +2 pts for Win]
Death =3D -3 pts [in addition to 1 pt for Loss]
Dark Arena Kill =3D +10 pts [in addition to +2 pts for Win]
Dark Arena Death =3D -5 pts [in addition to 1 pt for Loss]
Revenged Blood Feud =3D +5 pts [successful Revenged Blood Feud provides Death Fest
contestants the opportunity to cancel out 3 pts for Death and 1 pt for Loss; while
gaining +1 pt overall for the Revenged Blood Feud in addition to the +2 pts for Win]
DEATH FEST PRIZES will be awarded to the Top Ten Death Fest Stables on the basis
of Total Points*** accumulated during the 15 rounds of competition as follows:
1. Favorite Weapon Knowledge for 1 (one) warrior ranked Initiate or higher on the
Final Round to be revealed by RSI to each of the Top Ten Death Fest Stables
2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters and NPCs [yet to be determined according to how
many DA Monsters and NPCs are available in DM 59 for Renaming]
3. The Top Five Death Fest Stables will receive New Team Rollup Certificates as
follows: 1st (10), 2nd (8), 3rd (6), 4th (4) and 5th (2)
4. Renaming Illis Arena for 6 months plus Receiving 6 months Free Play courtesy of
RSI will be awarded to the manager of the 1st Place Death Fest Stable
5. Discussions are underway regarding a possible Special Award granted to the Illis
Iron Stable qualifiers who compete in 67 of a possible 75 fights during the course of
the 15 consecutive rounds of the Death Fest [Key Factor is How Many (?) stables will
be competing in the Death Fest without drawing away participation by current managers
in the remaining slow arenas!] Therefore, it is important for all managers entering
stables in DM 59 for the upcoming Death Fest to contact RSI as soon as possible
regarding their participation in this contest so that a Final Ruling on the proposed
Illis Iron Stable Award can be issued by RSI.
***TieBreaker is determined on the Final Round by the DM 59 Newsletter Recognition
Rankings. The stable with the Highest Ranked Active Gladiator is granted the
decision. [Example: Warrior A and Warrior B are both listed in the Recognition
Rankings with 87 pts; however, because Warrior A is listed in the Recognition
Rankings ahead of Warrior B, then Warrior A is granted the TieBreaker Decision for
His/Her stable!]
Opening Round Team Spotlight Bonus [minimum 15 paragraphs!] Each Delarq Death
Fest competitor who writes a Team Spotlight featuring their Stable (Name) and
Managerial Alias [Gladiatorial Names Optional] in regards to competing in the Delarq
Death Fest will receive 25 pts added to His/Her opening round score.
Illis Iron Stable Bonus [in addition to the proposed award awaiting RSI
approval!] Any manager whose stable competes in at least 67 of the possible 75
fights during the 15 rounds of Death Fest receives 25 points added to His/Her final
overall score [this allows each stable the cushion of missing one round of
competition; plus up to 3 additional fights due to waiting for replacement rollups
from Deaths suffered either in Tourneys or during the Death Fest contest in DM 59
over the course of 15 rounds of competition!]
